Day 207 of the 2nd Bible Study Journey - 26 July 2022 reflections

Day 207, 26 July 2022

1) Isaiah 63:15 - 66 , 2 Kings 20:20-21 , 2 Chronicles 32:32-33

A Prayer of Penitence

15 (Dt 26:15; Ps 80:14) Look down from heaven and see,

from Your holy and glorious habitation.

Where are Your zeal and Your strength?

The stirrings of Your heart and Your mercies toward me are restrained.

16 (Isa 44:6; Dt 32:6) For You are our Father,

though Abraham is ignorant of us

and Israel does not recognize us.

You, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer;

Your name is from everlasting.

17 (Nu 10:36; Ps 90:13) O Lord, why have You made us to err from Your ways

and hardened our heart from fearing You?

Return for Your servants' sake,

the tribes of Your inheritance.

18 (Ps 74:3-7) Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while;

our adversaries have trodden it down.

19 We have become

as those over whom You have never ruled,

as those who were not called by Your name.

[15] Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of thy holiness

and of thy glory: where is thy zeal and thy strength, the sounding of thy

bowels and of thy mercies toward me? are they restrained?

[16] Doubtless thou art our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and

Israel acknowledge us not: thou, O LORD, art our father, our redeemer; thy

name is from everlasting.

[17] O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our

heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine

inheritance.

[18] The people of thy holiness have possessed it but a little while: our

adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary.

[19] We are thine: thou never barest rule over them; they were not called by

thy name.

Isaiah 64

1 (Mic 1:3-4; Ps 68:8) Oh, that You would rend the heavens and come down,

that the mountains might shake at Your presence,

2 (Ps 99:1; Jer 5:22) as when the melting fire burns,

as the fire causes the waters to boil,

to make Your name known to Your adversaries,

that the nations may tremble at Your presence!

3 (Ps 66:3; 66:5) When You did awesome things for which we did not look,

You came down; the mountains quaked at Your presence.

4 (Ps 31:19; Isa 25:9) For since the beginning of the world men

have not heard, nor perceived by ear,

neither has the eye seen a God besides You,

who acts for the one who waits for Him.

5 (Ex 20:24) You meet him who rejoices in doing righteousness,

those who remember You in Your ways.

Indeed, You were angry, for we had sinned;

in our sins we remained a long time,

and shall we be saved?

6 (Ps 90:5-6; Isa 6:5) But we all are as an unclean thing,

and all our righteousness is as filthy rags;

and we all fade as a leaf,

and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

7 (Eze 22:30; Hos 7:7) There is no one who calls on Your name,

who stirs up himself to take hold of You;

for You have hidden Your face from us

and have consumed us because of our iniquities.

8 (Isa 63:16; 29:16) But now, O Lord, You are our Father;

we are the clay, and You are our potter;

and we all are the work of Your hand.

9 (Ps 74:1-2; 79:13) Do not be wrathful beyond measure, O Lord,

nor remember iniquity forever;

look upon us, we pray,

we all are Your people.

10 (Isa 1:7) Your holy cities are a wilderness;

Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

11 (2Ki 25:9; Ps 74:5-7) Our holy and beautiful house

where our fathers praised You

is burned up with fire;

and all our precious things are laid waste.

12 (Isa 42:14; Ps 74:10-11) Will You refrain Yourself from

these things, O Lord?

Will You hold Your peace and afflict us beyond measure?

Isaiah 64

[1] Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down,

that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,

[2] As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil,

to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at

thy presence!

[3] When thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest

down, the mountains flowed down at thy presence.

[4] For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived

by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what he hath

prepared for him that waiteth for him.

[5] Thou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that

remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou art wroth; for we have sinned: in

those is continuance, and we shall be saved.

[6] But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as

filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the

wind, have taken us away.

[7] And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself

to take hold of thee: for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed

us, because of our iniquities.

[8] But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our

potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

[9] Be not wroth very sore, O LORD, neither remember iniquity for ever:

behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

[10] Thy holy cities are a wilderness, Zion is a wilderness, Jerusalem a

desolation.

[11] Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is

burned up with fire: and all our pleasant things are laid waste.

[12] Wilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O LORD? wilt thou hold thy

peace, and afflict us very sore?

Isaiah 65

Judgment and Salvation

1 (Ro 10:20; Hos 1:10) I was sought by those who did not ask for Me;

I was found of those who did not seek Me.

I said, "Here I am, here I am,"

to a nation that did not call on My name.

2 (Ro 10:21; Isa 1:2) I have spread out My hands all day

to a rebellious people

who walk in a way that was not good,

after their own thoughts;

3 (Isa 1:29; Job 1:11) a people who provoke Me continually

to My face, presenting sacrifices in gardens

and burning incense on altars of brick;

4 (Lev 11:7; Isa 66:17) who sit among the graves

and lodge in the monuments;

who eat swine's flesh,

and the broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

5 (Mt 9:11; Lk 7:39) who say, "Stand by yourself; do not come near to me,

for I am holier than you!"

These are smoke in My nose,

a fire that burns all day.

6 (Ps 50:3; Jer 16:18) See, it is written before Me:

I will not keep silent, but I will recompense,

even recompense into their bosom,

7 (Ex 20:5; Isa 57:7) your iniquities and the iniquities

of your fathers together, says the Lord;

because they have burned incense on the mountains

and blasphemed Me on the hills,

therefore, I will measure their former work

into their bosom.

8 Thus says the Lord:

As the new wine is found in the cluster,

and one says, "Do not destroy it

for a blessing is in it,"

so I will do for the sake of My servants

that I may not destroy them all.

9 (Am 9:11-15; Isa 27:6) I will bring forth descendants from Jacob,

and out of Judah an inheritor of My mountains;

and My chosen ones shall inherit it,

and My servants shall dwell there.

10 (Isa 35:2; 33:9) Sharon shall be a fold of flocks,

and the Valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in,

for My people who seek Me.

11 (Isa 1:28; 2:2) But you are those who forsake the Lord,

who forget My holy mountain,

who prepare a table for Fortune,

and who furnish the drink offering for Destiny.

12 (Jer 7:13; 2Ch 36:15-16) I will destine you for the sword,

and you all shall bow down to the slaughter;

because when I called, you did not answer;

when I spoke, you did not hear

but did evil before My eyes

and chose that in which I did not delight.

13 (Isa 61:7; 66:5)Therefore, thus says the Lord God:

My servants shall eat,

but you shall be hungry;

My servants shall drink,

but you shall be thirsty;

My servants shall rejoice,

but you shall be ashamed;

14 (Mt 8:12; Ps 66:4) My servants shall sing for joy

with a glad heart,

but you shall cry

with a heavy heart

and shall wail with grief of spirit.

15 (Zec 8:13; Isa 62:2) You shall leave your name

for a curse to My chosen ones;

for the Lord God shall slay you,

but My servants shall be called by another name;

16 (Ps 31:5; Isa 19:18) because he who is blessed in the earth

shall bless himself in the God of truth;

and he who swears in the earth

shall swear by the God of truth;

because the former troubles are forgotten

and because they are hidden from My eyes.

The New Creation

17 (2Pe 3:13; Isa 66:22; Jer 3:16) For I create

new heavens and a new earth;

the former things shall not be remembered

or come to mind.

18 (Ps 98:1-9) But be glad and rejoice forever

in that which I create;

for I create Jerusalem for rejoicing

and her people for joy.

19 (Isa 35:10; 25:8) I will rejoice in Jerusalem

and be glad in My people;

and the voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her,

nor the voice of crying.

20 (Dt 4:40; Job 5:26) There shall no longer be

an infant who lives only a few days

nor an old man who has not filled out his days.

For the child shall die

a hundred years old,

but the sinner being a hundred years old

shall be accursed.

21 (Am 9:14) They shall build houses and inhabit them;

and they shall plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them.

22 (Ps 92:12-14) They shall not build and another inhabit;

they shall not plant and another eat;

for as the days of a tree

are the days of My people,

and My chosen ones shall long enjoy

the work of their hands.

23 (Isa 61:9; Dt 28:3-12; Ac 2:39) They shall not labor in vain

nor bring forth children for trouble;

for they are the descendants of the blessed of the Lord

and their offspring with them.

24 (Da 9:20-23; 10:12) Before they call, I will answer;

and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

25 (Isa 65:11; Mic 4:3) The wolf and the lamb shall feed together,

and the lion shall eat straw like the bull,

and dust shall be the serpent's food.

They shall not hurt nor destroy

in all My holy mountain,

says the Lord.

Isaiah 65

[1] I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that

sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not

called by my name.

[2] I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which

walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;

[3] A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that

sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;

[4] Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat

swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

[5] Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than

thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

[6] Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will

recompense, even recompense into their bosom,

[7] Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the

LORD, which have burned incense upon the mountains, and blasphemed me upon

the hills: therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.

[8] Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one

saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my

servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

[9] And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacob, and out of Judah an

inheritor of my mountains: and mine elect shall inherit it, and my servants

shall dwell there.

[10] And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place

for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.

[11] But ye are they that forsake the LORD, that forget my holy mountain,

that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering

unto that number.

[12] Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to

the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye

did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I

delighted not.

[13] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but

ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be

thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

[14] Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for

sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

[15] And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord

GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:

[16] That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the

God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of

truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid

from mine eyes.

[17] For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former

shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

[18] But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for,

behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

[19] And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of

weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

[20] There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that

hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but

the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

[21] And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant

vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

[22] They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and

another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine

elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

[23] They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they

are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

[24] And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and

while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

[25] The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw

like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt

nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Isaiah 66

True Worship

1 (1Ki 8:27; Mt 5:34-35) Thus says the Lord:

Heaven is My throne,

and the earth is My footstool.

Where then is the house that you could build for Me?

And where is the place of My rest?

2 (Isa 57:15; Ps 34:18) For My hand made all those things,

thus all those things have come to be,

says the Lord.

But to this man I will look,

even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit,

and trembles at My word.

3 (Lev 2:2) He who kills a bull

is as if he kills a man;

he who sacrifices a lamb,

as if he breaks a dog's neck;

he who offers a grain offering,

as if he offers swine's blood;

he who burns incense,

as if he blesses an idol.

They have chosen their own ways,

and their soul delights in their abominations;

4 (Isa 65:12; 2Ki 21:2; 21:6) I also will choose their punishments

and will bring their fears on them,

because when I called, no one answered;

when I spoke, they did not listen;

but they did evil before My eyes

and chose that in which I did not delight.

The Vindication of Zion

5 (Ps 38:20; Isa 5:19) Hear the word of the Lord,

you who tremble at His word:

Your brothers who hate you,

who cast you out for My name's sake, said,

"Let the Lord be glorified

that we may see your joy."

Yet they shall be ashamed.

6 (Isa 59:18) A voice of noise from the city,

a voice from the temple,

the voice of the Lord

who renders recompense to His enemies.

7 (Isa 54:1) Before she was in labor,

she gave birth;

before her pain came,

she delivered a son.

8 (Isa 64:4) Who has heard such a thing?

Who has seen such things?

Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day?

Shall a nation be born at once?

For as soon as Zion was in labor,

she brought forth her sons.

9 (Isa 37:3) Shall I bring to the point of birth

and not cause delivery? says the Lord.

Shall I who cause delivery

shut the womb? says your God.

10 (Dt 32:43; Ps 26:8) Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her,

all you who love her;

rejoice exceedingly with her,

all you who mourn for her,

11 (Isa 60:16; Joel 3:18) that you may feed and be satisfied

with her consoling breasts,

that you may feed

and be delighted with the abundance of her bosom.

12 (Isa 48:18; 60:16) For thus says the Lord:

I will extend peace to her like a river

and the glory of the nations like a flowing stream.

Then you shall nurse, you shall be carried on her sides,

and dandled on her knees.

13 (Isa 51:3) As one whom his mother comforts,

so I will comfort you;

and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

God's Reign and Final Judgment

14 (Ezr 8:31; 7:9) Then you shall see this, and your heart shall rejoice,

and your bones shall flourish like an herb;

and the hand of the Lord shall be known toward His servants,

and His indignation toward His enemies.

15 (Ps 68:17; Isa 30:33) For the Lord shall come with fire

and with His chariots like a whirlwind,

to render His anger with fury

and His rebuke with flames of fire.

16 (Isa 27:1; Eze 38:21-22) For by fire and by His sword on all flesh,

the Lord shall execute judgment;

and the slain of the Lord shall be many.

17 (Isa 65:3-4) Those who sanctify themselves and purify themselves

in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh,

and abominable things, and mice shall be consumed together, says the Lord.

18 (Isa 2:2) For I know their works and their thoughts. The time shall come

to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory.

19 (Eze 27:10; Ge 10:2) I will set a sign among them, and send from

them survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud-who draw the bow-to

Tubal, and Javan, to the coastlands afar off who have not heard My fame

nor seen My glory. And they shall declare My glory among the nations.

20 (Isa 11:9; 43:6) They shall bring all your brothers out of all nations

as an offering to the Lord on horses, and in chariots, and in litters,

and on mules, and on swift beasts to My holy mountain Jerusalem,

says the Lord, as the sons of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel

into the house of the Lord.

21 (Ex 19:6; Isa 61:6) I will also take some of them for priests

and for Levites, says the Lord.

22 (Isa 65:17; Rev 21:1) For as the new heavens and the new earth

which I will make shall remain before Me, says the Lord,

so shall your descendants and your name remain.

23 (Eze 46:1; Ps 86:9) From one New Moon to another, and from

one Sabbath to another, all flesh shall come to worship before Me,

says the Lord.

24 (Isa 14:11; Da 12:2) And they shall go forth and look on the corpses

of the men who have transgressed against Me. For their worm shall not

die, nor shall their fire be quenched. And they shall be an abhorrence

to all flesh.

Isaiah 66

[1] Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my

footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place

of my rest?

[2] For all those things hath mine hand made, and those things have been,

saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of

a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

[3] He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a

lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he

offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol.

Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their

abominations.

[4] I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon

them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not

hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I

delighted not.

[5] Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; your brethren

that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be

glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.

[6] A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the

LORD that rendereth recompence to his enemies.

[7] Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was

delivered of a man child.

[8] Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth

be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as

soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

[9] Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the

LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.

[10] Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her:

rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

[11] That ye may suck, and be satisfied with the breasts of her

consolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of

her glory.

[12] For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will extend peace to her like a

river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream: then shall ye

suck, ye shall be borne upon her sides, and be dandled upon her knees.

[13] As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall

be comforted in Jerusalem.

[14] And when ye see this, your heart shall rejoice, and your bones shall

flourish like an herb: and the hand of the LORD shall be known toward his

servants, and his indignation toward his enemies.

[15] For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a

whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of

fire.

[16] For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and

the slain of the LORD shall be many.

[17] They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens

behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and

the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.

[18] For I know their works and their thoughts: it shall come, that I will

gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come, and see my glory.

[19] And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of

them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to

Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame,

neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the

Gentiles.

[20] And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD

out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon

mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD,

as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house

of the LORD.

[21] And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.

[22] For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall

remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.

[23] And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from

one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the

LORD.

[24] And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that

have transgressed against me: for their worm shall not die, neither shall

their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.

2 Kings 20:20-21

The Death of Hezekiah

20 (Ne 3:16; 2Ch 32:32) The rest of the deeds of Hezekiah, all his power,

how he made a pool and a conduit and brought water into the city,

are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?

21 (2Ch 32:33) Hezekiah slept with his fathers,

and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

[20] And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he

made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not

written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

[21] And Hezekiah slept with his fathers: and Manasseh his son reigned in

his stead.

2 Chronicles 32:32-33

The Death of Hezekiah

2Ki 20:1-21; Isa 37:21-38; 38:1-8

32 And the remainder of the acts of Hezekiah and his kind acts,

they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, son of Amoz,

in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

33 So Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the upper tombs

of the sons of David. And all those from Judah and those living in Jerusalem

paid him honor at his death. Then Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

[32] Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they

are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in

the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

[33] And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the

chiefest of the sepulchres of the sons of David: and all Judah and the

inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son

reigned in his stead.

Entitled God of the Garden

Genesis 3:8-13

8 Then they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool

of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence

of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 The Lord God called to the

man and said to him, "Where are you?"

10 He said, "I heard Your voice in the garden and was afraid because I

was naked, so I hid myself."

11 And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from

the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?"

12 The man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of

the tree, and I ate."

13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, "What have you done?"

[8] And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the

cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of

the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

[9] And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

[10] And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because

I was naked; and I hid myself.

[11] And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the

tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

[12] And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me

of the tree, and I did eat.

[13] And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done?

And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Many years ago, Joni Mitchell wrote a song called "Woodstock" in which she saw

the human race trapped in a "bargain" with the devil. Urging her listeners to

seek a simpler, more peaceful existence, she sang of a return to "the garden."

Mitchell spoke for a generation longing for purpose and meaning.

Mitchell's poetical "garden" is Eden, of course. Eden was the paradise God

created for us back in the beginning. In this garden, Adam and Eve met with

God on a regular basis-until the day they made their bargain with the devil

(see Genesis 3:6-7). That day was different. “Then the man and his wife heard

the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the cool of the day, and they

hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden" (v. 8-).

When God asked what they'd done, Adam and Eve engaged in a lot of blame-

shifting. Despite their denial, God didn't leave them there. He "made garments

of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them" (v. 21), a sacrifice that

hinted at the death Jesus would endure to cover our sins.

God didn't give us a way back to Eden. He gave us a way forward into restored

relationship with Him. We can't return to the garden. But we can return to

the God of the garden.

Reflect & Pray

What stands between you and God today? What might you confess to Him

in order to walk in "the cool of the day" with Him?

Father, help me not to blame others for my own faults

and failures.

Thank You that honesty with You means relationship with You.

Week 5 Rejoice in Grace - Day 3 The song of Exaltation

Exodus 15:2

2 The Lord is my strength and song,

and He has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise Him;

my father's God, and I will exalt Him.

2 The LORD is my strength and song,

And he is become my salvation:

He is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation;

My father's God, and I will exalt him.

The world is full of music that communicates human emotion:

love, joy, sadness, separation.

A love song makes us misty-eyed; a song of protest arouses anger; a song

describing loss stimulates feelings of hurt and abandonment.

Music is a powerful force to sway the human spirit.

Exodus 15:2 indicates that God should be the source of the songs in our hearts.

Human emotions vacillate; human relationships disappoint,

but God is our "strength" and our "song".

To exalt the Lord includes many different type of "songs".

"I can't carry a tune in a bucket," one woman complained.

"How can I sing to the Lord anything that will be pleasing to him?"

But the Lord does not delight in the professionalism of our songs,

but in the motivation of our hearts. We can "sing to the Lord"

when we enjoy a Bach organ piece played for his glory.

We can exalt him in the words of Scripture - either remembered or sung.

We can worship him by enjoying the songs of others.

The key to making the Lord our song is exaltation. When our thoughts

lift him up in praise, we are singing a song of exaltation to the Lord.

When God is exalted in our songs, in our hearts, and in our thoughts,

that focus gives strength to our lives. We can face the difficulties

that are an inevitable part of experience,

because God is our "strength and our song".

Application

a) What is the difference between a song that is professionally performed

and one that exalts the Lord?

b) What practical steps can I take to make

my daily life a "song of praise" to God?

Matthew 6:19-21

Treasures in Heaven

Lk 12:33-34

19 (Heb 13:5; Lk 12:21) "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth

where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.

20 (Lk 12:33; Mt 19:21) But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,

where neither moth nor rust destroy

and where thieves do not break in nor steal,

21 (Lk 12:34) for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth

corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust

doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

God's Eternal Faithfulness

2 Tim 2:8-13

8 (Mt 1:1; Ro 2:16) Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead,

descended from David, according to my gospel,

9 (Php 1:7; 2Ti 1:8) in which I suffer trouble like a criminal,

even with chains. But the word of God is not bound.

10 (Col 1:24; 2Co 1:6; 4:17) Therefore I endure all things

for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain

the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 (Ro 6:8; 1Th 5:10) This is a faithful saying:

If we die with Him,

we shall also live with Him.

12 (Mt 10:33; Ro 8:17 ) If we endure,

we shall also reign with Him.

If we deny Him,

He also will deny us.

13 (Nu 23:19; Ro 3:3 )If we are faithless,

He remains faithful;

He cannot deny Himself.

8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead

according to my gospel:

9 wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of

God is not bound.

10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also

obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him,

we shall also live with him:

12 if we suffer, we shall also reign with him:

if we deny him, he also will deny us:

13 if we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

Footnotes

Acts 2:21 Joel 2:28-32.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

And

Thank you for praying through the

5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.

Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the

love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.

One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by

light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.

As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and

confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution

to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.

Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father

to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.

I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.

God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through

the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom

and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."

13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,

through the power of the Holy Spirit.

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
