PSALMS 102
A Prayer of one afflicted, when he is overwhelmed
and pours out his complaint before the Lord.
1 Hear my prayer, O Lord,
and let my cry come unto You.
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) Do not hide Your face from me
in the day when I am in trouble;
incline Your ear to me;
in the day when I call answer me quickly.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) For my days are consumed like smoke,
and my bones are burned as a furnace.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) My heart is struck down and withered like grass,
so that I forget to eat my bread.

12 But You, O Lord, shall endure forever enthroned
and Your reputation to all generations.
13 You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion,
for the time to favor her,
indeed, the appointed time has come.
14 For Your servants take pleasure in her stones,
and have pity on her dust.
15 So the nations shall fear the name of the Lord,
and all the kings of the earth Your glory.
16 For the Lord shall build up Zion;
He shall appear in His glory.
17 He will regard the prayer of the destitute
and will not despise their prayer.
18 Let this be written for the generation to come,
that a people who shall be created shall praise the Lord.
19 For He has looked down from the height of His sanctuary;
from heaven the Lord looked down on the earth,
20 to hear the groaning of the prisoners
and to set free those who are appointed to death,
21 that they may declare the name of the Lord in Zion
and His praise in Jerusalem;
22 when the peoples are gathered together,
and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.
23 He has weakened my strength in my midlife;
He has shortened my days.
24 I said,
"O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days-
Your years endure throughout all generations."
25 From before You have laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of Your hands.
26 They shall perish, but You shall endure;
indeed, all of them shall wear out like a garment;
like a robe You shall change them,
and they shall pass away,
27 but You are the same,
and Your years shall have no end.
28 The children of Your servants shall be secure,
and their offspring shall be established before You.

O Lord my God, You are very great!
You are clothed with honor and majesty,
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) covering Yourself with light as a garment,
who stretches out the heavens like a tent curtain,
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) who lays the upper beams
of His chambers on the waters above,
who makes the clouds His chariot,
who rides upon the wings of the wind,
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) who makes His angels as winds,
His ministers a flaming fire.

and lay down in their dens.
23 Man goes forth to his work
and to his labor until the evening.
24 O Lord, how manifold are Your works!
With wisdom You have made them all;
the earth is full of Your creatures—
25 so is this great and wide sea,
which is full of innumerable creatures,
living animals both small and great.
26 There go the ships,
and there is Leviathan, which You have made to play in it.
27 These all wait upon You,
that You may give them their food in due season.
28 When You give it to them,

Exodus 18:13–23
13 On the next day, Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood
around - Moses from the morning until the evening.
14 When Moses' father-in=law saw all that he was doing for the people,
he said, "What is this thing that you are doing for the people?
Why are you sitting by yourself while all the people stand
around you from morning until evening?"
15 (Nu 15:34; 27:5) Then Moses said to his father-in-law,
"Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
16 (Ex 24:14; Dt 4:5) When they have a dispute, it comes to me,
and I judge between a man and his neighbor,
and I make known the statutes of God and His laws."
17 Moses' father-in-law said to him, "What you are doing
is not good. 18 You will surely wear yourself out, both you,
and these people who are with you, for this thing is too heavy for you.
You are not able to do it by yourself.
19 (Nu 27:5; Ex 3:12) Now listen to me, I will advise you, and may God
be with you: You be a representative for the people to God so that you
may bring their disputes to God.
20 (Dt 1:18; Ps 143:8) And you shall teach them the statutes and laws
and shall show them the way in which they must walk
and the work that they must do.
21 (2Ch 19:5-10; Ac 6:3) Moreover, you shall choose out of all the people
capable men who fear God, men of truth, hating dishonest gain,
and place these men over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds,

Joe worked more than twelve hours a day, often without taking breaks.
Starting a charitable business demanded so much time and energy
that he had little left to offer his wife and children when he got home.
After the toll of chronic stress landed Joe in the hospital, a friend
offered to organize a team to help him. Though he dreaded
giving up control, Joe knew he couldn't keep up his current pace.
He agreed to trust his friend-and God-as he delegated
responsibilities to the group of people they chose together.
A year later, Joe admitted that the charity and his family
could never have prospered if he’d refused the help God had sent him.
God didn't design people to thrive without the support of a loving community.
In Exodus 18, Moses led the Israelites through the wilderness.
He tried serving God's people as a teacher, a counselor, and a judge
all on his own. When his father-in-law visited, he offered Moses advice:
"You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out,"
said Jethro. "The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone"
(Exodus 18:18). He encouraged Moses to share the workload
with faithful people. Moses accepted help and the whole community benefited.
When we trust that God works in and through all His people
as we work together, we can find true rest.

Reflect & Pray
How can you trust God by asking for help or offering help
to someone in leadership this week? How has He provided you
the support of trustworthy people?
Father God, thank You for never asking me to handle life
without Your help or the support of others.

9 (Ps 32:5; Pr 28:13) If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
"If God already knows everything about me, everything I've done,
then why do I need to confess it?" Grant struggled with a common
dilemma for many Christians. Indeed, God, knew all his sin - much
better than Grant did himself. But Grant needed to confess,
not for God's benefit, but for his own. Grant needed to agree with God
that his sin was wrong, and put himself in a position to receive God's
grace in forgiveness.
1 John 1:9 make the process quit clear. We confess,
and God forgives and cleanses. Many of us, however, want to take on
God's part as well. We confess, agreeing with God that our sin is wrong.
But then we proceed to try to 'clean up our act,'bargaining with God,
promising that if he will forgive us just this once,
we won't ever to it again.
The problem is, we can never keep such a promise.
We probably will do it again, and then we are back where we started,
begging for forgiveness, and trying once more to cleanse
ourselves for our unrighteousness.
God offers freedom from such futile performance. He says, "Just confess.
Agree that you sinned. Submit yourself to me. Then I'll take over from there."
God's grace does not give us freedom to keep on sinning, of course - we need
to cooperate with the work of his Spirit in our lives and do all we can
to avoid sin. But we do not have to beg God for forgiveness - forgiveness
is offered to us freely.
We do not have to clean up out act before God will accept us; God can make
the necessary changes in our lives. When we confess, submit ourselves to God,
and allow him to work within us, he is able both to forgive us and to cleanse
us from unrighteousness.

in order to deserve his forgiveness?

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethinic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipiling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.
- for current workers among Muslims to be blessed, refreshed and encouraged
with great support

PURSUING THE AMERICAN DREAM
MUPPIES (OR MUSLIM URBAN PROFESSIONALS) EPITOMIZE SUCCESS
While first-generation immigrants typically focus on survival
and fitting in, their children aim higher: worldly success,
plus a slice of the American Dream.
Muppies' experiences with Islam can prove frustrating.
Many seek a deeper, richer spiritual experience than
that offered at local mosques, but they're not easily
swayed by Christian evangelists.
One Christian woman pointed to her relationships with two Muppies:
Sadia, a hedge fund manager in her 30s, told me our friendship
is different from her relationships with Muslims.
Muslim women often hide their difficulties,
but I was open and honest about my struggles.
I explained that as a Christian, I am not judged by my failings,
but saved by the love and grace of Jesus,
who has compassion for those who struggle.
"I'd like to be a part of a spiritual community like that,"
Sadia told me one day. I invited her to join us,
but she hasn't done so yet.
Amira, a top computer programmer in her 20s,
felt her sin was too vast for her to be close to God.
I encouraged her that the true God is the one
who knows our sins and loves us completely.
I shared Paul's teaching in Romans 5:8.
8 (Jn 15:13; 1Pe 3:18) But God demonstrates His own
love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He desires relationship
with us more than efforts to earn His love. She now believes in a forgiving
God, but she continues to look for Him in Islam.
Neither Sadia nor Amira have become Christians, but God is moving among
Muppies seeking something deeper than what Islam offers.
Pray for the salvation of Sadia and Amira, and other Muppies.
Pray that urban Christians in the workplace will seek opportunities
to share Jesus with Muppies.
Pray that we can help Muppies know Jesus as Lord.
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

Exodus 18:13–23
13 On the next day, Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood
around - Moses from the morning until the evening.
14 When Moses' father-in=law saw all that he was doing for the people,
he said, "What is this thing that you are doing for the people?
Why are you sitting by yourself while all the people stand
around you from morning until evening?"
15 (Nu 15:34; 27:5) Then Moses said to his father-in-law,
"Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
16 (Ex 24:14; Dt 4:5) When they have a dispute, it comes to me,
and I judge between a man and his neighbor,
and I make known the statutes of God and His laws."
17 Moses' father-in-law said to him, "What you are doing
is not good. 18 You will surely wear yourself out, both you,
and these people who are with you, for this thing is too heavy for you.
You are not able to do it by yourself.
19 (Nu 27:5; Ex 3:12) Now listen to me, I will advise you, and may God
be with you: You be a representative for the people to God so that you
may bring their disputes to God.

Joe worked more than twelve hours a day, often without taking breaks.
Starting a charitable business demanded so much time and energy
that he had little left to offer his wife and children when he got home.
After the toll of chronic stress landed Joe in the hospital, a friend
offered to organize a team to help him. Though he dreaded
giving up control, Joe knew he couldn't keep up his current pace.
He agreed to trust his friend-and God-as he delegated
responsibilities to the group of people they chose together.
A year later, Joe admitted that the charity and his family
could never have prospered if he’d refused the help God had sent him.
God didn't design people to thrive without the support of a loving community.
In Exodus 18, Moses led the Israelites through the wilderness.
He tried serving God's people as a teacher, a counselor, and a judge
all on his own. When his father-in-law visited, he offered Moses advice:
"You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out,"
said Jethro. "The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone"
(Exodus 18:18). He encouraged Moses to share the workload
with faithful people. Moses accepted help and the whole community benefited.
When we trust that God works in and through all His people
as we work together, we can find true rest.

How can you trust God by asking for help or offering help
to someone in leadership this week? How has He provided you

Week 4 - The Blessings of Grace Day 5 - 1 John 1:9
9 (Ps 32:5; Pr 28:13) If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
"If God already knows everything about me, everything I've done,
then why do I need to confess it?" Grant struggled with a common
dilemma for many Christians. Indeed, God, knew all his sin - much
better than Grant did himself. But Grant needed to confess,
not for God's benefit, but for his own. Grant needed to agree with God
that his sin was wrong, and put himself in a position to receive God's
grace in forgiveness.
1 John 1:9 make the process quit clear. We confess,
and God forgives and cleanses. Many of us, however, want to take on
God's part as well. We confess, agreeing with God that our sin is wrong.
But then we proceed to try to 'clean up our act,'bargaining with God,
promising that if he will forgive us just this once,
we won't ever to it again.
The problem is, we can never keep such a promise.
We probably will do it again, and then we are back where we started,
begging for forgiveness, and trying once more to cleanse
ourselves for our unrighteousness.
God offers freedom from such futile performance. He says, "Just confess.
Agree that you sinned. Submit yourself to me. Then I'll take over from there."
God's grace does not give us freedom to keep on sinning, of course - we need
to cooperate with the work of his Spirit in our lives and do all we can
to avoid sin. But we do not have to beg God for forgiveness - forgiveness
is offered to us freely.
We do not have to clean up out act before God will accept us; God can make
the necessary changes in our lives. When we confess, submit ourselves to God,
and allow him to work within us, he is able both to forgive us and to cleanse
us from unrighteousness.
Application
a) In what ways have I bartered with God and tried to "Clean up my act"
in order to deserve his forgiveness?
b) What is my part in confession? What is God's response?
Why it is important for me to recognize God's part in my
confession and forgiveness?

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethinic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipiling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.
- for current workers among Muslims to be blessed, refreshed and encouraged
with great support

PURSUING THE AMERICAN DREAM
MUPPIES (OR MUSLIM URBAN PROFESSIONALS) EPITOMIZE SUCCESS
While first-generation immigrants typically focus on survival
and fitting in, their children aim higher: worldly success,
plus a slice of the American Dream.
Muppies' experiences with Islam can prove frustrating.
Many seek a deeper, richer spiritual experience than
that offered at local mosques, but they're not easily
swayed by Christian evangelists.
One Christian woman pointed to her relationships with two Muppies:
Sadia, a hedge fund manager in her 30s, told me our friendship
is different from her relationships with Muslims.
Muslim women often hide their difficulties,
but I was open and honest about my struggles.
I explained that as a Christian, I am not judged by my failings,
but saved by the love and grace of Jesus,
who has compassion for those who struggle.
"I'd like to be a part of a spiritual community like that,"
Sadia told me one day. I invited her to join us,
but she hasn't done so yet.
Amira, a top computer programmer in her 20s,
felt her sin was too vast for her to be close to God.
I encouraged her that the true God is the one
who knows our sins and loves us completely.
I shared Paul's teaching in Romans 5:8.
8 (Jn 15:13; 1Pe 3:18) But God demonstrates His own
love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. He desires relationship
with us more than efforts to earn His love. She now believes in a forgiving
God, but she continues to look for Him in Islam.
Neither Sadia nor Amira have become Christians, but God is moving among
Muppies seeking something deeper than what Islam offers.
Pray for the salvation of Sadia and Amira, and other Muppies.
Pray that urban Christians in the workplace will seek opportunities
to share Jesus with Muppies.
Pray that we can help Muppies know Jesus as Lord.
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .
