LEVITICUS 11



Clean and Unclean Foods



Dt 14:3-20



1 The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them:

2 (Mt 15:11; Heb 9:10) Speak to the children of Israel, saying:

These are the living things which you shall eat

among all the animals that are on the earth.

3 Whatever animal has a parted hoof (that is, split-hoofed),

and chews the cud among the animals, that one you shall eat.

4 Nevertheless these you shall not eat of those that chew the cud

or of those that have a divided hoof: The camel, because it chews

the cud but does not have a divided hoof, is unclean to you;

5 (Ps 104:18; Pr 30:26) the rock badger, because it chews

the cud but does not have a divided hoof, is unclean to you;

6 (Dt 14:7) the hare, because it chews the cud but does not

have a divided hoof, is unclean to you;

7 (Isa 65:4; 66:3) the pig, though it does have a divided hoof

(that is, split-hoofed), yet it does not chew the cud, is unclean to you;

8 (Isa 52:11; Heb 9:10) you shall not eat of their flesh,

and their carcasses you must not touch; they are unclean to you.

9 These you shall eat of all that are in the waters:

Whatever has fins and scales in the waters, in the seas and in the rivers,

these you shall eat;

10 (Lev 7:18) all that do not have fins and scales in the seas

and in the rivers, from all that move in the waters

and from any living thing that is in the waters, they are detestable to you;

11 they shall be detestable to you. You shall not eat of their flesh,

and you shall detest their carcasses.

12 Whatever has no fins or scales in the waters is detestable to you.

13 These you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten;

they are detestable: the griffon vulture, the bearded vulture,

and the black vulture,

14 the kite, and buzzard of any kind,

15 the raven of any kind,

16 and the eagle owl, the short-eared and long-eared owls,

and the hawk of any kind,

17 and the little owl, the cormorant, and the screech owl,

18 and the white owl, the scops owl, and the osprey,

19 and the stork, the heron of any kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.

20 All flying insects that walk, moving on all fours,

shall be detestable to you.

21 Yet these you may eat of every flying insect that creeps

on all fours: those that have jointed legs above their feet

with which to hop on the ground.

22 (Mt 3:4; Mk 1:6) Even of these you may eat: the locust of any kind,

the bald locust of any kind, the cricket of any kind, and the grasshopper

of any kind.

23 But all other flying insects that have four feet

shall be detestable to you.

24 And by these you shall be unclean. Whoever touches

the carcass of these shall be unclean until the evening.

[3] Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud,

among the beasts, that shall ye eat.

[4] Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of

them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but

divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

[5] And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he

is unclean unto you.

[6] And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he

is unclean unto you.

[7] And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he

cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.

[8] Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch;

they are unclean to you.

[9] These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins

and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.

[10] And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers,

of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the

waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:

[11] They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their

flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.

[12] Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an

abomination unto you.

[13] And these are they which ye shall have in abomination among the fowls;

they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the

ossifrage, and the ospray,

[14] And the vulture, and the kite after his kind;

[15] Every raven after his kind;

[16] And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his

kind,

[17] And the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl,

[18] And the swan, and the pelican, and the gier eagle,

[19] And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.

[20] All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto

you.

[21] Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all

four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;

[22] Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald

locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper

after his kind.

[23] But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an

abomination unto you.

[24] And for these ye shall be unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of

them shall be unclean until the even.



Unclean Animals



25 (Lev 11:40; 14:8) Whoever carries any of the carcasses of these shall

wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening.

26 The carcass of every animal that divides the hoof but is not completely

split-hoofed nor chews the cud is unclean to you.

Everyone who touches them shall be unclean.

27 Whatever animal that walks on its paws,

among all manner of animals that go on all fours,

those are unclean to you.

Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening.

28 He who carries the carcass of these shall wash his clothes

and be unclean until the evening; they are unclean to you.

29 (Lev 11:41-42) These also shall be unclean to you among

the crawling things that move on the ground: the mole rat,

the mouse, and the great lizard of any kind,

30 and the gecko, the lizard, the wall gecko, the sand lizard,

and the chameleon.

31These are unclean to you among all that crawl.

Whoever touches them when they are dead shall be unclean until the evening.

32 (Lev 15:12) And anything on which any of them falls when they are dead

shall be unclean, whether it be an article of wood or clothing or a skin

or a sack, any article that is used for any purpose.

It must be put in water. And it shall be unclean until the evening;

then it shall be clean.

33 (Lev 6:28; 15:12) Every clay vessel into

which any of these falls, everything in

it shall be unclean, and you shall break it.

34 Any food in it that may be eaten on which water

is poured shall be unclean, and any drink that may be drunk

in every such vessel shall be unclean.

35 Everything on which any part of their carcass falls shall be unclean;

whether it is an oven or stove, it shall be broken to pieces.

They are unclean and shall be unclean to you.

36 Nevertheless a fountain or cistern where there is plenty of water

shall be clean, but whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean.

37 If any part of their carcass falls on any grain seed that is to be sown,

it shall be clean.

38 But if any water is put on the seed,

and any part of their carcass fall on it, it shall be unclean to you.

39 If any animal from which you may eat dies,

whoever touches the carcass shall be unclean until the evening.

40 (Lev 22:8; Eze 44:31) And the person who eats of the carcass

shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening.

The person who carries the carcass shall wash his clothes

and be unclean until the evening.

41 (Lev 11:29) Every crawling thing that moves on the ground

shall be detestable. It shall not be eaten.

42 Whatever goes on its belly, and whatever goes on all fours,

or whatever has many feet from any crawling things that move on the earth,

you shall not eat them for they are detestable.

43 (Lev 20:25; 11:41-42) You shall not make yourselves detestable

with any crawling thing that moves,

nor shall you make yourselves unclean with them,

that you should thereby be defiled by them.

44 (Lev 19:2; Ex 19:6) For I am the Lord your God.

You shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy,

for I am holy. Neither shall you defile yourselves with any manner

of crawling thing that moves on the ground.

45 (Ex 6:7; 20:2; Ps 105:43-45) For I am the Lord who brings you up

out of the land of Egypt to be your God. Therefore you shall be holy,

for I am holy.

46 This is the law for the animals, and the fowls, and every living

creature that moves in the waters, and every creature that crawls

on the ground,

47 (Lev 10:10; Eze 44:23) to differentiate

between the unclean and the clean,

and between the animal that may be eaten

and the animal that may not be eaten.



[25] And whosoever beareth ought of the carcase of them shall wash his

clothes, and be unclean until the even.

[26] The carcases of every beast which divideth the hoof, and is not

clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, are unclean unto you: every one that

toucheth them shall be unclean.

[27] And whatsoever goeth upon his paws, among all manner of beasts that go

on all four, those are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall

be unclean until the even.

[28] And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be

unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you.

[29] These also shall be unclean unto you among the creeping things that

creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the tortoise after his

kind,

[30] And the ferret, and the chameleon, and the lizard, and the snail, and

the mole.

[31] These are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch

them, when they be dead, shall be unclean until the even.

[32] And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it

shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or

sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherein any work is done, it must be put into

water, and it shall be unclean until the even; so it shall be cleansed.

[33] And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is

in it shall be unclean; and ye shall break it.

[34] Of all meat which may be eaten, that on which such water cometh shall

be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be

unclean.

[35] And every thing whereupon any part of their carcase falleth shall be

unclean; whether it be oven, or ranges for pots, they shall be broken down:

for they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you.

[36] Nevertheless a fountain or pit, wherein there is plenty of water, shall

be clean: but that which toucheth their carcase shall be unclean.

[37] And if any part of their carcase fall upon any sowing seed which is to

be sown, it shall be clean.

[38] But if any water be put upon the seed, and any part of their carcase

fall thereon, it shall be unclean unto you.

[39] And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the

carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even.

[40] And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be

unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall wash

his clothes, and be unclean until the even.

[41] And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an

abomination; it shall not be eaten.

[42] Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or

whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the

earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.

[43] Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that

creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should

be defiled thereby.

[44] For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and

ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any

manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

[45] For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be

your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.

[46] This is the law of the beasts, and of the fowl, and of every living

creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon

the earth:

[47] To make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the

beast that may be eaten and the beast that may not be eaten.

LEVITICUS 12



Purification After Childbirth



1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2 (Lev 15:19; Ge 1:28; Lev 18:19) Speak to the children of Israel, saying:

If a woman has conceived and bears a male child,

then she shall be unclean seven days,

as in the days of her monthly menstruation she shall be unclean.

3 (Lk 1:59; 2:21) On the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin

shall be circumcised.

4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying

for thirty-three days. She shall not touch anything holy,

nor come into the sanctuary until the days of her purifying are fulfilled.

5 But if she gives birth to a female child,

then she shall be unclean for two weeks as in her monthly menstruation,

and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying for sixty-six days.

6 (Lk 2:22) When the days of her purifying are fulfilled,

whether for a son or for a daughter,

she shall bring a year-old lamb for a burnt offering,

and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering,

to the priest at the entrance of the tent of meeting,

7 who shall offer it before the Lord and make atonement for her.

Then she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood.

This is the law for the woman who has given birth to a male or a female child.

8 (Lev 4:26; 5:7) If she cannot afford a lamb,

then she shall bring two turtledoves or two pigeons,

one for the burnt offering and the other for a sin offering,

and the priest shall make atonement for her, and she shall be clean.





Leviticus 12

[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

[2] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived

seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according

to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.

[3] And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

[4] And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and

thirty days; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary,

until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.

[5] But if she bear a maid child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in

her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying

threescore and six days.

[6] And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a

daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering, and

a young pigeon, or a turtledove, for a sin offering, unto the door of the

tabernacle of the congregation, unto the priest:

[7] Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and

she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her

that hath born a male or a female.

[8] And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two

turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other

for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she

shall be clean.

LEVITICUS 13



The Law Concerning Leprosy



1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying:

2 (Dt 24:8; Lev 14:56; 14:3) When a man has on the skin of his body

a swelling, a scab, or spot, and it turns on the skin of his body

like a mark of a leprous sore, then he shall be brought to Aaron

the priest or to one of his sons the priests.

3 (Ro 3:19-20) And the priest shall examine the mark on the skin

of the body, and when the hair on the diseased area is white,

and the mark appears to be deeper than the skin of his body,

then it is a leprous sore. So the priest shall look on him

and pronounce him unclean.

4 (Nu 12:15) If the spot is white on the skin of his body,

and it appears to be no deeper than the skin, and the hair is not white,

then the priest shall isolate the person who has the mark for seven days.

5 Then the priest shall examine him on the seventh day,

and if the mark is still visible,

and the mark has not spread into the skin,

then the priest shall isolate him for seven days more.

6 (Lev 11:25; 14:8) And the priest shall examine him again

on the seventh day, and if the mark has faded and not spread

into the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean;

it is only a scab, and he shall wash his clothes and be clean.

7 But if the scab spreads in the skin after he has been seen

by the priest for his cleansing, he shall be seen by the priest again.

8 And if the priest sees that the scab has spread in the skin,

then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is leprosy.

9 When a person has leprosy, then it shall be reported to the priest.

10 (2Ki 5:27; 2Ch 26:19–20) And the priest shall examine him,

and if there is a white swelling in the skin,

and it has turned the hair white,

and there is raw flesh in the swelling,

11 it is a recurring leprosy in the skin of his body,

and the priest shall pronounce him unclean,

but he shall not isolate him, for he is unclean.

12 If the leprosy breaks out all over the skin,

and the disease covers all the skin of the person

who has the disease from his head to his feet,

wherever the priest looks,

13 then the priest shall examine,

and if the leprosy has covered all his body,

he shall pronounce him clean from the disease.

It has all turned white, and he is clean.

14 But when raw flesh appears on him, he shall be unclean.

15 The priest shall see the raw flesh and pronounce him to be unclean,

for the raw flesh is unclean. It is leprosy.

16 Or if the raw flesh turns again, and it is changed to white,

then he shall come to the priest.

17 And the priest shall see him, and if the disease is changed to white,

then the priest shall pronounce him clean who has the disease. He is clean.

18 (Ex 9:9) And when the skin has a boil, and it is healed,

19 and in the place of the boil there is a white swelling

or a reddish-white spot, then it will be shown to the priest.

20 And if the priest sees it, and it is deeper than the skin,

and the hair has turned white, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean.

It is a leprous sore that has broken out in the boil.

21 But if the priest looks at it, and there are no white hairs in it,

and if it is not deeper than the skin but has faded,

then the priest shall isolate the person for seven days.

22 If it spreads around the skin,

then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a leprous sore.

23 But if the spot stays in its place and does not spread,

then it is the scar of a boil, and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

24 Or if there is some of the skin on the body where there is a burn,

and the raw flesh that has a burn becomes a reddish or white spot,

25 then the priest shall examine it, and if the hair in the spot

has turned white, and it is deeper than the skin, then it is

a leprous disease broken out from the burn.

Therefore the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a leprous sore.

26 But if the priest looks at it, and there is no white hair in the spot,

and it is no deeper than the other skin and is faded, then the priest shall

isolate him for seven days.

27 And the priest shall examine him on the seventh day,

and if it has spread around the skin,

then the priest shall pronounce him unclean. It is a leprous sore.

28 If the spot stays in its place and it does not spread in the skin,

but is faded, then it is a swelling from the burn,

and the priest shall pronounce him clean, for it is a scar from the burn.

29 If a man or woman has a sore on the head or in the beard,

30 then the priest shall examine the sore, and if it is deeper than the skin

and there is in it a yellow thin hair, then the priest

shall pronounce him unclean. It is a scaly leprosy of the head or beard.

31 If the priest examines the scaly sore, and it is no deeper than the skin,

and there is no black hair in it, then the priest shall isolate the person

with the scale for seven days.

32 And on the seventh day the priest shall examine the sore,

and if the scale has not spread, and there is no yellow hair in it,

and the scale is not deeper than the skin,

33 then he shall shave, but the scale he shall not shave,

and the priest shall isolate the person with the scale another seven days.

34 And on the seventh day the priest shall examine the scale.

If the scale has not spread in the skin and is no deeper than the skin,

the priest shall pronounce him clean. He shall wash his clothes and be clean.

35 But if the scale spreads over the skin after his cleansing,

36 then the priest shall examine him. If the scale has spread over the skin,

the priest shall not look for yellow hair. He is unclean.

37 But if the scale appears not to have changed

and there is black hair growing in it, then the scale is healed.

He is clean and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

38 If a man or a woman has spots on the skin of the body,

even white bright spots,

39 then the priest shall examine, and if the bright spots

on the skin of the body are a faded white,

then it is just a rash that has broken out on the skin. He is clean.

40 When a man has lost hair from his head, then he is bald.

He is still clean.

41 And when a man has lost hair from his forehead, then he is bald

on the forehead. He is still clean.

42 But if there is on the bald head or bald forehead a reddish-white sore,

it is a leprous disease breaking out on his bald head or his bald forehead.

43Then the priest shall examine it. If the diseased swelling is reddish-white

on his bald head or on his bald forehead, resembling a leprous disease

in the skin of the body,

44 he is leprous. He is unclean. The priest shall pronounce him unclean.

His disease is on his head.

45 (Lev 10:6; La 4:15; Eze 24:17) The man who has the leprous disease

shall have torn clothes and disheveled hair; and he shall cover his mustache

and shall cry, "Unclean, unclean."

46 (2Ki 7:3; 15:5) All the days that he has the disease,

he shall be defiled. He is unclean. He shall dwell alone,

and he shall live outside the camp.



Leviticus 13

[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, saying,

[2] When a man shall have in the skin of his flesh a rising, a scab, or a

bright spot, and it be in the skin of his flesh like the plague of leprosy;

then he shall be brought unto Aaron the priest, or unto one of his sons the

priests:

[3] And the priest shall look on the plague in the skin of the flesh: and

when the hair in the plague is turned white, and the plague in sight be

deeper than the skin of his flesh, it is a plague of leprosy: and the priest

shall look on him, and pronounce him unclean.

[4] If the bright spot be white in the skin of his flesh, and in sight be

not deeper than the skin, and the hair thereof be not turned white; then the

priest shall shut up him that hath the plague seven days:

[5] And the priest shall look on him the seventh day: and, behold, if the

plague in his sight be at a stay, and the plague spread not in the skin;

then the priest shall shut him up seven days more:

[6] And the priest shall look on him again the seventh day: and, behold, if

the plague be somewhat dark, and the plague spread not in the skin, the

priest shall pronounce him clean: it is but a scab: and he shall wash his

clothes, and be clean.

[7] But if the scab spread much abroad in the skin, after that he hath been

seen of the priest for his cleansing, he shall be seen of the priest again:

[8] And if the priest see that, behold, the scab spreadeth in the skin, then

the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is a leprosy.

[9] When the plague of leprosy is in a man, then he shall be brought unto

the priest;

[10] And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the rising be white in

the skin, and it have turned the hair white, and there be quick raw flesh in

the rising;

[11] It is an old leprosy in the skin of his flesh, and the priest shall

pronounce him unclean, and shall not shut him up: for he is unclean.

[12] And if a leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the leprosy cover

all the skin of him that hath the plague from his head even to his foot,

wheresoever the priest looketh;

[13] Then the priest shall consider: and, behold, if the leprosy have

covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague: it

is all turned white: he is clean.

[14] But when raw flesh appeareth in him, he shall be unclean.

[15] And the priest shall see the raw flesh, and pronounce him to be

unclean: for the raw flesh is unclean: it is a leprosy.

[16] Or if the raw flesh turn again, and be changed unto white, he shall

come unto the priest;

[17] And the priest shall see him: and, behold, if the plague be turned into

white; then the priest shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague: he is

clean.

[18] The flesh also, in which, even in the skin thereof, was a boil, and is

healed,

[19] And in the place of the boil there be a white rising, or a bright spot,

white, and somewhat reddish, and it be shewed to the priest;

[20] And if, when the priest seeth it, behold, it be in sight lower than the

skin, and the hair thereof be turned white; the priest shall pronounce him

unclean: it is a plague of leprosy broken out of the boil.

[21] But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hairs

therein, and if it be not lower than the skin, but be somewhat dark; then

the priest shall shut him up seven days:

[22] And if it spread much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall

pronounce him unclean: it is a plague.

[23] But if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not, it is a

burning boil; and the priest shall pronounce him clean.

[24] Or if there be any flesh, in the skin whereof there is a hot burning,

and the quick flesh that burneth have a white bright spot, somewhat reddish,

or white;

[25] Then the priest shall look upon it: and, behold, if the hair in the

bright spot be turned white, and it be in sight deeper than the skin; it is

a leprosy broken out of the burning: wherefore the priest shall pronounce

him unclean: it is the plague of leprosy.

[26] But if the priest look on it, and, behold, there be no white hair in

the bright spot, and it be no lower than the other skin, but be somewhat

dark; then the priest shall shut him up seven days:

[27] And the priest shall look upon him the seventh day: and if it be spread

much abroad in the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him unclean: it is

the plague of leprosy.

[28] And if the bright spot stay in his place, and spread not in the skin,

but it be somewhat dark; it is a rising of the burning, and the priest shall

pronounce him clean: for it is an inflammation of the burning.

[29] If a man or woman have a plague upon the head or the beard;

[30] Then the priest shall see the plague: and, behold, if it be in sight

deeper than the skin; and there be in it a yellow thin hair; then the priest

shall pronounce him unclean: it is a dry scall, even a leprosy upon the head

or beard.

[31] And if the priest look on the plague of the scall, and, behold, it be

not in sight deeper than the skin, and that there is no black hair in it;

then the priest shall shut up him that hath the plague of the scall seven

days:

[32] And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the plague: and,

behold, if the scall spread not, and there be in it no yellow hair, and the

scall be not in sight deeper than the skin;

[33] He shall be shaven, but the scall shall he not shave; and the priest

shall shut up him that hath the scall seven days more:

[34] And in the seventh day the priest shall look on the scall: and, behold,

He was loved by all-those were the words used to describe Giuseppe Berardelli

he had health problems that worsened when he was infected by the coronavirus,

care unit for another younger patient if he could have. This reveals the

character of a man who was loved and admired for loving others.



Loved for loving, this is the message the apostle John keeps sounding

throughout his gospel. Being loved and loving others are like a chapel bell

that tolls night and day, regardless of weather. And in John 15, they reach

somewhat of a zenith, for John lays bare that it's not being loved by all

but loving all that's the greatest love: "to lay down one’s life for one's

friends" (v. 13).



Stories of those willing to offer sacrificial love always inspire us.

Yet they pale in comparison to God's great love. But don't miss the challenge

that brings, for Jesus commands:

"Love each other as I have loved you" (v. 12). Yes, love all.

When Paul writes in 2 Cor 5:17 that we become a "new creation" in Christ

Jesus, the story does not end there. The verses following give us direction

for tht new life in Christ. "All This", Paul says, referring to the miracle of

new life in Christ, "is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ

and gave us the ministry of reconciliation."

Reconciliation means to bring back together what was once separated. Man was

separated from God by sin, and God took the initiative to reconcile man to

himself. Our "ministry of reconciliation" as Christians is twofold: to draw

others to the Lord and to work for reconciliation between individuals.

Reconciliation is the ultimate goal of forgiveness. God, through his grace ,

extends forgiveness to us when we are still sinners, unrepentant,

undeserving. When we respond, we come into reconciliation with him

and are brought back into oneness. Likewise, when we extend the grace

of forgiveness to another, we are set free by the act of forgiving, but we

hope that the ultimate outcome will be reconciliation.

God shows us the pattern: he is the wronged party, yet he does not wait for

the offender to come to him, hat in hand. He takes a bold initiative, offering

forgiveness freely with out regard to merit. The pattern applies to us;

as the new life in Christ takes hold of us, we must reach out, and reach,

and keep on reaching, breaking down the barriers, taking the risk of

rejection so that we may come to reconciliation.

coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries

Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,

emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still

continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our

Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom

they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.



For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.



You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"



Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:



- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
