New! Stretch, Breathe and Meditate with Tracy

Stretch, breath, and meditation—the power trio that everyone needs to do, but doesn't take the time to do! This 1-hour class starts with 30 minutes of stretching, and then dives into practicing different yogic breathing techniques (Pranayama) that will strengthen the heart, lungs, core, cleanse the body of toxins, increase vitality, and sharpen the mind. The body is then completely prepared for meditation. Each week will have a different style of practice, but for all, the purpose is to give time and space for increased presence and connection to self. This class will refuel your body, mind, and spirit in every way.

Mat Classes

Pilates Mat classes teach our unique approach to Pilates that you can take anywhere you go. In a typical 12-week session you will learn Pilates using the mat, stability roller, fitness ball, hand weights, resistance band, gliding discs, and fitness circle - lots of variety so there is something for every body and every mind! These props are designed to build core connection and optimal alignment, giving you a full-body workout - improving strength, balance, flexibility, and body control.

Equipment Classes

Pilates Equipment classes use the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Chair, and starting in January our new Standing Pilates Machines! All apparatus uses spring weight resistance. This unique environment is both challenging and supportive: the springs require muscle strength and control to move smoothly and the pulleys and springs allow the body to go further than it could on its own. The apparatus also helps to put the body in correct alignment and to train the right muscle, which is key to rehabilitating and correcting faulty muscular patterning, as well to developing optimal muscle tone. There are literally hundreds of exercises you can do on the apparatus, allowing us to work with most injuries and physical challenges.

Gravity Strap Classes

Gravity Strap / Kettlebar classes builds high power strength and agility with more of a traditional fitness philosophy. The gravity straps allow you to work with your own body weight to create functional total body fitness, power, and flexibility. Our unique design provides for better ergonomics, as well as more attention to balance and symmetry in strength and alignment. Weighted Kettlebells put the core into a high velocity environment, building explosive power and whole body coordination. Our unique Kettlebell design puts less strain on the wrists and hands, allowing you to focus on form. This class works your heart and lungs as well as your core! It is open to all levels, with the understanding that we are putting the body into a challenging environment :)

Vinyasa Flow Yoga Classes

This style of yoga flows through its sequences and postures – standing, seated, backbends, forward bends, inversions. It is designed to heat the body through linking the movement from one posture to the next. Sun Salutations are a major vehicle of movement. Iyengar and Ashtanga Yoga are its influences. Props will be used to open up the body in specific ways, make alignment adjustments and to ensure safe movement. This rejuvenating body-mind practice cultivates inner and outer strength.

Yoga is a moving meditation, and although that may also be said of Pilates, it is much more so for Yoga. The postures are designed to impact you on a physical level – to stretch, strengthen or align, but are also designed to focus and quiet the mind. We have found them to be an excellent complement to each other, and hope you will as well.

Levels

We have several levels of classes – please see our schedule. If you have never done Pilates or yoga before, we recommend starting with level 1. If you have some experience in these or are at a high level of fitness, it may be more appropriate to start in level 2. Level 2/3, 3 and 4 classes are intended for those with a some pilates or core-based foundation. For more information on which class is right for you, please speak to reception or an instructor. For more info on our New Client Special: 2 weeks Unlimited Class Pass, please see our FAQ page

In general we recommend classes 2–3 times a week – ideally combining mat and equipment classes, since they complement each other and allow participants to experience the full range of Pilates repertoire. If you can only come once a week, we recommend starting with a Pilates Mat class to learn the foundations and to learn material you can do at home, and then maybe checking out the equipment classes. Please speak with reception or an instructor if you have any questions on where to start.
