1) Proverbs 22-24
Proverbs 22
1 (Ecc 7:1) A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,
and loving favor rather than silver and gold.
2 (Job 31:15; Pr 14:31) The rich and poor have this in common,
the Lord is the maker of them all.
3 (Pr 14:16; 27:12) A prudent man foresees the evil and hides himself,
but the simple pass on and are punished.
4 (Pr 21:21) By humility and the fear of the Lord
are riches, and honor, and life.
5 (Pr 15:19; 1Jn 5:18) Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse;
he who guards his soul will be far from them.
6 (Eph 6:4; 2Ti 3:15) Train up a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not depart from it.

Saying One

Words of the Wise
17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise,
And apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Saying Two

Saying Four

Or of them that are sureties for debts.

Saying Five
28 (Dt 19:14; Pr 23:10) Do not remove the ancient landmark
which your fathers have set.

Saying Seven
1 When you sit to eat with a ruler,
consider diligently what is before you;
2 and put a knife to your throat,

for they are deceptive food.

Saying Nineteen

Psalm 121
A Song of degrees.

From this time forth, and even for evermore.
Retired teacher Debbie Stephens Browder is on a mission to convince as many
people as possible to plant trees. The reason? Heat. Extreme heat in the
United States is the number one weather-related cause of death. In response,
she says, "I'm starting with trees." The canopy of heat protection that trees
provide is one significant way to protect communities. "It's life or death.
It's not just about beautifying the community."
The fact that shade isn't just refreshing but potentially lifesaving would
have been well known to the psalmist who wrote Psalm 121; in the Middle East,
the risk of sunstroke is constant. This reality adds depth to the psalm's
vivid description of God as our surest place of safety, the One in whose care "The sun shall not smite thee by day, Nor the moon by night." (v. 6).
This verse can't mean that believers in Jesus are somehow immune to pain or
loss in this life (or that heat isn't dangerous!). After all, Christ tells us,
"In this world you will have trouble" (John 16:33). But this metaphor of God
as our shade does vividly reassure us that, whatever comes our way, our lives
are held in His watchful care (Psalm 121:7-8). There we can find rest through
trusting Him, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love (John 10:28;
Romans 8:39).

John 5:24

"PLEASE BE PATIENT - GOD IS NOT FINISHED WITH ME YET,"
the sweatshirt read. In this case, the message was an ironic one,
for the occupant of the shirt was a snaggle-toothed, freckle-faced six year
old!
In one sense, God is not finished with the work he has to do in each of us.
Life in Christ is an ongoing process of change and growth as we become
more like him. Certainly, the more we see of ourselves, the more we hope
he isn't finished with us!
Yet whatever plans God has for making us into the men and women he created
us to be, certain aspects of our life in Christ are finished, finalised.
Jesus declares with absolute assurance, "whoever hears
My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life
and shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death into life. "
Because we do not have to earn or deserve God's grace, because we are not
called to prove ourselves worthy of Salvation, we can have immediate
and total assurance of the security of life in Jesus Christ. The one who
put his trust in the Lord has eternal life; he will not be condemned;
he has crossed over from death to life.
This "crossing over" into life happens in the split second when we acknowledge
our dependence upon Christ alone. And the rest of our lives is given over to
the development of his image in us.
God is not finished with us yet.
But his work of salvation is finished - complete,
fully dependable an accomplished fact.
Application
a) Have I ever doubted the "accomplished fact" of my own salvation? Why?
b) How can today's verse help me realise that, although I may have a lot of
growing yet to do, my salvation in Jesus Christ is secure?

Gen 17:5-7
5 (Ne 9:7; Ge 17:15) No longer will your name be called Abram,

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now
this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

Retired teacher Debbie Stephens Browder is on a mission to convince as many
people as possible to plant trees. The reason? Heat. Extreme heat in the
United States is the number one weather-related cause of death. In response,
she says, "I'm starting with trees." The canopy of heat protection that trees
provide is one significant way to protect communities. "It's life or death.
It's not just about beautifying the community."
The fact that shade isn't just refreshing but potentially lifesaving would
have been well known to the psalmist who wrote Psalm 121; in the Middle East,
the risk of sunstroke is constant. This reality adds depth to the psalm's
vivid description of God as our surest place of safety, the One in whose care "The sun shall not smite thee by day, Nor the moon by night." (v. 6).
This verse can't mean that believers in Jesus are somehow immune to pain or
loss in this life (or that heat isn't dangerous!). After all, Christ tells us,
"In this world you will have trouble" (John 16:33). But this metaphor of God
as our shade does vividly reassure us that, whatever comes our way, our lives
are held in His watchful care (Psalm 121:7-8). There we can find rest through
trusting Him, knowing that nothing can separate us from His love (John 10:28;
Romans 8:39).

"PLEASE BE PATIENT - GOD IS NOT FINISHED WITH ME YET,"
the sweatshirt read. In this case, the message was an ironic one,
for the occupant of the shirt was a snaggle-toothed, freckle-faced six year
old!
In one sense, God is not finished with the work he has to do in each of us.
Life in Christ is an ongoing process of change and growth as we become
more like him. Certainly, the more we see of ourselves, the more we hope
he isn't finished with us!
Yet whatever plans God has for making us into the men and women he created
us to be, certain aspects of our life in Christ are finished, finalised.
Jesus declares with absolute assurance, "whoever hears
My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life
and shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death into life. "
Because we do not have to earn or deserve God's grace, because we are not
called to prove ourselves worthy of Salvation, we can have immediate
and total assurance of the security of life in Jesus Christ. The one who
put his trust in the Lord has eternal life; he will not be condemned;
he has crossed over from death to life.
This "crossing over" into life happens in the split second when we acknowledge
our dependence upon Christ alone. And the rest of our lives is given over to
the development of his image in us.
God is not finished with us yet.
But his work of salvation is finished - complete,
fully dependable an accomplished fact.
Application
a) Have I ever doubted the "accomplished fact" of my own salvation? Why?
b) How can today's verse help me realise that, although I may have a lot of
growing yet to do, my salvation in Jesus Christ is secure?

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now
this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.
Agree in prayer for :
- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for
reaching Muslims in Quebec.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
