Proverbs 13
1 (Pr 10:1; 15:20) A wise son heeds his father's instruction,
but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.
2 (Pr 12:14; 1:31) A man will eat well by the fruit of his mouth,
but the soul of the transgressor will eat violence.
3 (Pr 21:23; 12:13) He who guards his mouth preserves his life,
but he who opens wide his lips will have destruction.
4 (Pr 10:4; 11:25) The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing;
but the soul of the diligent will be made fat.

but perverseness in it crushes the spirit.

Purpose of Writing
A Time for Everything
1 (Ecc 3:17) To everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under heaven:
2 (Heb 9:27; Job 14:5) a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted;
3 (1Sa 2:6; Hos 6:1-2) a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 (Ex 15:20; Ro 12:15) a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 (2Ki 3:25; Joel 2:16) a time to cast away stones,
and a time to gather stones;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to gain, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 (Am 5:13; Ge 37:29) a time to tear, and a time to sew;

The God-Given Task
9 (Ecc 1:3; 2:11) What benefit does the worker have in his toil?

to be concerned with.

or perpetuity. so that no one comes to know the work that God has done
from the beginning to the end.

God maketh from the beginning to the end.
12 I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice,
and to do good in his life.
I recently came across a helpful word: wintering. Just as winter is a time
of slowing down in much of the natural world, author Katherine May uses
this word to describe our need to rest and recuperate during life's "cold"
seasons. I found the analogy helpful after losing my father to cancer, which
sapped me of energy for months. Resentful of this forced slowing down, I
fought against my winter, praying summer's life would return.
But I had much to learn.
Ecclesiastes famously says there's "a season for every activity under
the heavens"-a time to plant and to harvest, to weep and to laugh,
to mourn and to dance (3:1-4). I had read these words for years but only
started to understand them in my wintering season. For though we have
little control over them, each season is finite and will pass when its work
is done. And while we can't always fathom what it is, God is doing something
significant in us through them (v. 11). My time of mourning wasn't over. When
it was, dancing would return. Just as plants and animals don't fight winter,
I needed to rest and let it do its renewing work.
"Lord," a friend prayed, "would You do Your good work in Sheridan
during this difficult season." It was a better prayer than mine.
For in God's hands, seasons are purposeful things.
Let's submit to His renewing work in each one.

Romans 6:23

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now
this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

The God-Given Task

I recently came across a helpful word: wintering. Just as winter is a time
of slowing down in much of the natural world, author Katherine May uses
this word to describe our need to rest and recuperate during life's "cold"
seasons. I found the analogy helpful after losing my father to cancer, which
sapped me of energy for months. Resentful of this forced slowing down, I
fought against my winter, praying summer's life would return.
But I had much to learn.
Ecclesiastes famously says there's "a season for every activity under
the heavens"-a time to plant and to harvest, to weep and to laugh,
to mourn and to dance (3:1-4). I had read these words for years but only
started to understand them in my wintering season. For though we have
little control over them, each season is finite and will pass when its work
is done. And while we can't always fathom what it is, God is doing something
significant in us through them (v. 11). My time of mourning wasn't over. When
it was, dancing would return. Just as plants and animals don't fight winter,
I needed to rest and let it do its renewing work.
"Lord," a friend prayed, "would You do Your good work in Sheridan
during this difficult season." It was a better prayer than mine.
For in God's hands, seasons are purposeful things.
Let's submit to His renewing work in each one.

Romans 6:23

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now
this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.

- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
