The Great Commandment
Mt 22:34-40; Lk 10:25-28
28 (Mt 22:34-40; Lk 10:25-28) One of the scribes came and heard them
reasoning together. Perceiving that Jesus had answered them well,
he asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?"
29 (Dt 6:4; Lk 10:27) Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments
is, 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.
30 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' (Dt 6:4-5.)
This is the first commandment.
31 (Lev 19:18; Mt 7:12) The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbour
as yourself.'(Lev 19:18.) There is no other commandment greater than these."
32 (Dt 4:35; 4:39)The scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher. You have
spoken the truth, that there is one God and there is no other but Him.

The Question About David's Son

36 (Ps 110:1; 2Sa 23:2) David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:
'The Lord said to my Lord,
"Sit at My right hand,
until I put Your enemies
under Your feet." ' (Ps 110:1.)
37 (Ro 1:3-4) David himself calls Him 'Lord.' How then is He his Son?"
And the large crowd heard him gladly.

The Denouncing of the Scribes and Pharisees

3 Therefore, whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do,

and lay them on men's shoulders, but they themselves will not move
them with their finger.

6 They love the places of honor at feasts, and the prominent seats

he is a debtor!
[17] Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple
that sanctifieth the gold?
[18] And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever
sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

Mark 12:41-44
The Widow's Offering
Lk 21:1-4
41 (2Ki 12:9; Jn 8:20) Jesus sat opposite the treasury
and saw how the people put money into the treasury.
Many who were rich put in much.
42 But a certain poor widow came and put in two mites, which make a farthing.
(Gk. 2 lepta. A lepton, meaning "small" or "thin," was a fraction of a penny
and the smallest coin circulated.)
43 (2Co 8:2; 8:12) He called His disciples to Him and said to them,
"Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those
who are contributing to the treasury.
44 (Lk 8:43; 15:12) They all contributed out of their abundance.
But she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had, her entire livelihood."
[41] And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast
money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
[42] And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which
make a farthing.
[43] And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say
unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have
cast into the treasury:

The Widow's Offering
Mk 12:41-44
1 (Mk 12:41-44; Jn 8:20) He looked up and saw the rich putting
their gifts in the treasury.
2 (Mk 12:42) He also saw a poor widow putting in two mites,
(Gk. 2 lepta. A lepton, meaning "small" or "thin," is a fraction
of a penny and about 1/128 of a denarius, which was a day's wage.
A Jewish bronze or copper coin, it was the smallest coin circulated.)
32 (Co 8:12) and He said, "Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put

The Old Life and New Life
32 (1Sa 16:18; Dt 20:1-3) David said to Saul, "Let no man's heart fail
because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine."
40 (Jdg 20:16) He took his staff in his hand and chose for himself
five smooth stones out of the brook. And he put them in his shepherd's bag,
even in a pouch. And his sling was in his hand.
Then he drew near to the Philistine.
41 The Philistine came walking and drew near to David,
and the man bearing the shield went before him.
42 (1Sa 16:12; Ps 123:3-4) When the Philistine looked and saw David,
he despised him. For he was a youth and ruddy with a handsome appearance.
43 (1Sa 24:14; 2Sa 3:8) The Philistine said to David, "Am I a dog, that you
come to me with sticks?" Then the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 (1Ki 20:10-11) The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give
your flesh to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the field."

Therefore the stone sunk into his forehead and he fell
upon his face to the ground.
50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone.
And he struck down the Philistine and slew him,
but there was no sword in the hand of David.

and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our
hands.
[48] And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh
to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the
Philistine.
[49] And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang
it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his
forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.
[50] So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone,
and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand
of David.
Two wild turkeys stood in the country lane ahead. How close could I get? I
wondered. I slowed my jog to a walk, then stopped. It worked. The turkeys
walked toward me . . . and kept coming. In seconds, their heads were bobbing
at my waist, then behind me. How sharp were those beaks? I ran away. They
waddled after me before giving up the chase.
How quickly the tables had turned! The hunted had become the hunter when the
turkeys seized the initiative. Foolishly, I had wondered if they were too dumb
to be scared. I wasn't about to be carelessly wounded by a bird, so I fled.
From turkeys.
David didn't seem dangerous, so Goliath taunted him to come near. 'The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give
your flesh to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the field."'(1
Samuel 17:44). David flipped the script when he seized the initiative. He ran
toward Goliath, not because he was foolish but because he had confidence in
God. He shouted, " This day will the Lord deliver you into my hand.
... so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel" (v. 46).
Goliath was puzzled by this aggressive boy. What's going on?
he must have thought. Then it hit him. Right between the eyes.
It's natural for small animals to run from people and shepherds to avoid
giants. It’s natural for us to hide from our problems. Why settle for
natural? Is there a God in Israel? Then, in His power, run toward the fight.

Romans 6:23

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.
More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established

As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.
The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:
- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Two wild turkeys stood in the country lane ahead. How close could I get? I
wondered. I slowed my jog to a walk, then stopped. It worked. The turkeys
walked toward me . . . and kept coming. In seconds, their heads were bobbing
at my waist, then behind me. How sharp were those beaks? I ran away. They
waddled after me before giving up the chase.
How quickly the tables had turned! The hunted had become the hunter when the
turkeys seized the initiative. Foolishly, I had wondered if they were too dumb
to be scared. I wasn't about to be carelessly wounded by a bird, so I fled.
From turkeys.
David didn't seem dangerous, so Goliath taunted him to come near. 'The Philistine said to David, "Come to me, and I will give
your flesh to the birds of the heavens and to the beasts of the field."'(1
Samuel 17:44). David flipped the script when he seized the initiative. He ran
toward Goliath, not because he was foolish but because he had confidence in
God. He shouted, " This day will the Lord deliver you into my hand.
... so that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel" (v. 46).
Goliath was puzzled by this aggressive boy. What's going on?
he must have thought. Then it hit him. Right between the eyes.
It's natural for small animals to run from people and shepherds to avoid
giants. It’s natural for us to hide from our problems. Why settle for
natural? Is there a God in Israel? Then, in His power, run toward the fight.

Romans 6:23

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.
More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.
The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:
- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...)
