Jerusalem as God's Furnace

17 The word of the Lord came to me, saying:

18 (Ps 119:119; Isa 1:22) Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross

to Me. All of them are bronze and tin and iron and lead in the midst

of the furnace. They are the dross of silver.

19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you all have become dross,

therefore, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

20 As they gather silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into the midst

of a furnace to blow fire on it to melt it, so I will gather you in My anger

and in My fury, and I will lay you there and melt you.

21 Indeed, I will gather you and blow upon you in the fire of My wrath,

and you shall be melted in the midst of it.

22 (Eze 20:8; 20:33) As silver is melted in the midst of a furnace,

so you shall be melted in the midst of it. And you shall know that

I the Lord have poured out My fury upon you.

Indictment of Sinful Leaders

23 The word of the Lord came to me, saying:

24 (Isa 9:13; Jer 2:30) Son of man, say to her: You are the land that

is not cleansed nor rained upon in the day of indignation.

25 (Hos 6:9; Jer 2:34) There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst

like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls. They have

taken the treasure and precious things. They have made many widows

in her midst.

26 (Lev 10:10; 1Sa 2:12-17) Her priests have violated My law

and have profaned My holy things. They have made no distinction

between the holy and profane, nor have they shown the difference

between the unclean and the clean, and they have hidden their eyes from

My Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

27 (Eze 22:13; Isa 1:23) Her officials in her midst are like wolves ravening

the prey by shedding blood and destroying lives in order

to obtain dishonest gain.

28 (Jer 23:25–32; Eze 13:6-7) Her prophets have daubed them with whitewash,

seeing vanity and divining lies for them, saying,

"Thus says the Lord God," when the Lord has not spoken.

29 (Eze 22:7; Ex 23:9; Isa 5:7) The people of the land have used oppression

and exercised robbery and have vexed the poor and needy and have oppressed

the sojourner wrongfully.

30 (Jer 5:1; Eze 13:5) I sought for a man among them who would build up

the hedge and stand in the gap before Me for the land so that I would not

destroy it, but I found no one.

31 (Eze 7:8-9; 9:10) Therefore I have poured out My indignation on them.

I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath.

Their own way I have recompensed on their heads, says the Lord God.

[17] And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

[18] Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are

brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are

even the dross of silver.

[19] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross,

behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.

[20] As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the

midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it; so will I gather

you in mine anger and in my fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you.

[21] Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and

ye shall be melted in the midst thereof.

[22] As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted

in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my

fury upon you.

[23] And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

[24] Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor

rained upon in the day of indignation.

[25] There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a

roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken

the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the

midst thereof.

[26] Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things:

they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they

shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes

from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.

[27] Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to

shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.

[28] And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing

vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when

the LORD hath not spoken.

[29] The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and

have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger

wrongfully.

[30] And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and

stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I

found none.

[31] Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed

them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their

heads, saith the Lord GOD.

Ezekiel 23

The Sins of Oholah and Oholibah

1 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying:

2 Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother.

3 (Lev 17:7; Jos 24:14) And they committed harlotries in Egypt.

They committed harlotries in their youth. There their breasts were pressed,

and there their virgin bosom was handled.

4 (Eze 16:8) Their names were Oholah the elder and Oholibah her sister.

And they were mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names,

Samaria is Oholah, and Jerusalem is Oholibah.

Samaria

5 (2Ki 15:19; 16:7) Oholah played the harlot when she was Mine. And

she lusted after her lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbors,

6 who were clothed in purple, captains and rulers, all of them desirable

young men, horsemen riding on horses.

7 (Hos 5:3; 6:10) Thus she committed her harlotries with them, with all those

who were the chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted,

with all their idols she defiled herself.

8 (Ex 32:4; Eze 23:3) She did not forsake her harlotries from the time

in Egypt. For in her youth they lay with her, and they handled her virgin

bosom and poured their harlotry upon her.

9 (2Ki 15:29; 17:23) Therefore I have delivered her into the hand

of her lovers, into the hand of the Assyrians after whom she doted.

10 (Eze 23:29; Hos 2:10) They uncovered her nakedness. They took her sons

and her daughters and killed her with the sword. And she became

a byword among women, for they had executed judgments on her.

Jerusalem

11 (Jer 3:8-11) Now her sister Oholibah saw this, but she was more corrupt

in her inordinate love than she, and in her harlotries more than her sister

in her harlotries.

12 (2Ki 16:7-15) She lusted after the Assyrians her neighbors,

captains and rulers clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding on horses,

all of them desirable young men.

13 Then I saw that she was defiled, that they both took the same way.

14 (Eze 8:10; Jer 22:14) So she increased her harlotries. And she saw men

portrayed on the wall, the images of the Chaldeans portrayed with vermilion,

15 girded with belts on their loins, exceeding in dyed attire on their heads,

all of them looking like officials, after the manner of the Babylonians

of Chaldea, the land of their nativity.

16 (Eze 16:29; Mt 5:28) And as soon as she saw them with her eyes,

she lusted after them and sent messengers to them into Chaldea.

17 (Eze 23:22; 23:28) The Babylonians came to her into the bed of love,

and they defiled her with their harlotry, and she was polluted with them,

and her soul became disgusted with them.

18 (Ps 78:59; 106:40) So she uncovered her harlotries and uncovered

her nakedness. Then My soul became disgusted with her, as My soul

became disgusted with her sister.

19 (Eze 23:3) Yet she multiplied her harlotries while remembering

the days of her youth in which she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

20 (Eze 16:26; 17:15) For she lusted after their paramours, whose flesh is

as the flesh of donkeys and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

21 Thus you longed for the lewdness of your youth when the Egyptians handled

your bosom because of the breasts of your youth.

Judgment on Jerusalem

22 (Eze 16:37) Therefore, O Oholibah, thus says the Lord God:

I will raise up your lovers against you, from whom you were alienated,

and I will bring them against you on every side:

23 (Jer 50:21; 2Ki 20:14-17) the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans,

Pekod and Shoa and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them.

All of them are desirable young men, captains and rulers,

officers and men of renown, all of them riding on horses.

24 (Jer 39:5-6; 47:3) They shall come against you with weapons,

chariots and wagons, and with an assembly of peoples. They shall set

themselves against you on every side with buckler and shield and helmet.

And I will set the judgment before them, and they shall judge you according

to their customs.

25 (Eze 23:47; Ex 34:14) I will set My jealousy against you, so that they deal

furiously with you. They shall take away your nose and your ears.

And your remnant shall fall by the sword. They shall take your sons

and your daughters. And your remnant shall be devoured by the fire.

26 (Eze 16:39; Jer 13:22) They shall also strip you of your clothes

and take away your fair jewels.

27 (Eze 16:41; 23:3) Thus I will make your lewdness and your harlotry brought

from the land of Egypt to cease from you so that you shall not lift up

your eyes to them or remember Egypt anymore.

28 (Jer 34:20; Eze 16:37) For thus says the Lord God: I will deliver you

into the hand of those whom you hate, into the hand of those from whom

you were alienated.

29 (Eze 16:39; 23:25-26) And they shall deal with you hatefully,

and shall take away all your labor, and shall leave you naked and bare.

And the nakedness of your harlotries shall be uncovered,

both your lewdness and your harlotries.

30 (Eze 6:9) I will do these things to you because you have gone whoring

after the nations, because you have polluted yourself with their idols.

31 (2Ki 21:13; Jer 7:14-15) You have walked in the way of your sister.

Therefore I will give her cup into your hand.

32 (Ps 60:3; Isa 51:17) Thus says the Lord God:

You shall drink of your sister's cup,

which is deep and wide;

you shall be laughed to scorn and held in derision;

it contains much.

33 (Isa 51:17; Jer 25:27) You shall be filled with drunkenness and sorrow,

the cup of horror and desolation,

the cup of your sister Samaria.

34 (Ps 75:8; Isa 51:17) You shall drink it and drain it,

then you shall gnaw at its fragments

and tear off your own breasts;

for I have spoken, says the Lord God.

35 (1Ki 14:9; Isa 17:10) Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Because you have forgotten Me and cast Me behind your back,

now bear the punishment of your lewdness and your harlotries.

Judgment on the Sisters

36 (Eze 22:2; Isa 58:1) The Lord moreover said to me: Son of man, will you

judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then declare to them their abominations.

37 (Eze 16:36; 16:20-21) For they have committed adultery, and blood is in

their hands. Thus with their idols they have committed adultery

and have also caused their sons whom they bore to Me to pass through

the fire for them as food.

38 (Eze 20:13; 2Ki 21:4) Moreover they have done this to Me:

They have defiled My sanctuary in the same day and have profaned My Sabbaths.

39 (2Ki 21:4; Jer 23:11) For when they had slain their children

to their idols, then they came the same day into My sanctuary to profane it.

And thus they have done in the midst of My house.

40 (2Ki 9:30; Jer 4:30) Furthermore, they have even sent for men to come

from afar, to whom a messenger was sent; and they came. For them you washed

yourself, painted your eyes, and decked yourself with ornaments.

41 (Est 1:6; Isa 65:11) And you sat on a stately couch with a table prepared

before it on which you had set My incense and My oil.

42 (Eze 16:11-12) A sound of a multitude at ease was with her,

and drunkards were brought from the wilderness with men of the common sort.

And they put bracelets on the hands of the women and beautiful crowns

on their heads.

43 Then I said to her who was worn out by adulteries, "Will they now commit

harlotries with her when she is so?"

44 Yet they went in to her as they go in to a woman who plays the harlot.

So they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, the lewd women.

45 (Lev 20:10; Hos 6:5) But righteous men shall judge them

after the manner of adulteresses, and after the manner of women who shed

blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.

46 (Eze 16:40; Jer 15:4) For thus says the Lord God: Bring up a company

against them and give them over to terror and devastation.

47 (Jer 39:8; Eze 16:40-41) The company shall stone them with stones

and cut them down with their swords. They shall slay their sons

and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.

48 (Eze 16:41; 23:27) Thus I will cause lewdness to cease from the land,

that all women may be warned and not commit lewdness as you have done.

49 (Eze 7:4; 9:10) Your lewdness shall be recompensed upon you, and you shall

bear the punishment of worshipping your idols. Then you shall know

that I am the Lord God.

Ezekiel 23

[1] The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

[2] Son of man, there were two women, the daughters of one mother:

[3] And they committed whoredoms in Egypt; they committed whoredoms in their

youth: there were their breasts pressed, and there they bruised the teats of

their virginity.

[4] And the names of them were Aholah the elder, and Aholibah her sister:

and they were mine, and they bare sons and daughters. Thus were their names;

Samaria is Aholah, and Jerusalem Aholibah.

[5] And Aholah played the harlot when she was mine; and she doted on her

lovers, on the Assyrians her neighbours,

[6] Which were clothed with blue, captains and rulers, all of them

desirable young men, horsemen riding upon horses.

[7] Thus she committed her whoredoms with them, with all them that were the

chosen men of Assyria, and with all on whom she doted: with all their idols

she defiled herself.

[8] Neither left she her whoredoms brought from Egypt: for in her youth they

lay with her, and they bruised the breasts of her virginity, and poured

their whoredom upon her.

[9] Wherefore I have delivered her into the hand of her lovers, into the

hand of the Assyrians, upon whom she doted.

[10] These discovered her nakedness: they took her sons and her daughters,

and slew her with the sword: and she became famous among women; for they had

executed judgment upon her.

[11] And when her sister Aholibah saw this, she was more corrupt in her

inordinate love than she, and in her whoredoms more than her sister in her

whoredoms.

[12] She doted upon the Assyrians her neighbours, captains and rulers

clothed most gorgeously, horsemen riding upon horses, all of them desirable

young men.

[13] Then I saw that she was defiled, that they took both one way,

[14] And that she increased her whoredoms: for when she saw men pourtrayed

upon the wall, the images of the Chaldeans pourtrayed with vermilion,

[15] Girded with girdles upon their loins, exceeding in dyed attire upon

their heads, all of them princes to look to, after the manner of the

Babylonians of Chaldea, the land of their nativity:

[16] And as soon as she saw them with her eyes, she doted upon them, and

sent messengers unto them into Chaldea.

[17] And the Babylonians came to her into the bed of love, and they defiled

her with their whoredom, and she was polluted with them, and her mind was

alienated from them.

[18] So she discovered her whoredoms, and discovered her nakedness: then my

mind was alienated from her, like as my mind was alienated from her sister.

[19] Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of

her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt.

[20] For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of

asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses.

[21] Thus thou calledst to remembrance the lewdness of thy youth, in

bruising thy teats by the Egyptians for the paps of thy youth.

[22] There, O Aholibah, thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will raise up thy

lovers against thee, from whom thy mind is alienated, and I will bring them

against thee on every side;

[23] The Babylonians, and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, and Shoa, and Koa, and

all the Assyrians with them: all of them desirable young men, captains and

rulers, great lords and renowned, all of them riding upon horses.

[24] And they shall come against thee with chariots, wagons, and wheels, and

with an assembly of people, which shall set against thee buckler and shield

and helmet round about: and I will set judgment before them, and they shall

judge thee according to their judgments.

[25] And I will set my jealousy against thee, and they shall deal furiously

with thee: they shall take away thy nose and thine ears; and thy remnant

shall fall by the sword: they shall take thy sons and thy daughters; and thy

residue shall be devoured by the fire.

[26] They shall also strip thee out of thy clothes, and take away thy fair

jewels.

[27] Thus will I make thy lewdness to cease from thee, and thy whoredom

brought from the land of Egypt: so that thou shalt not lift up thine eyes

unto them, nor remember Egypt any more.

[28] For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will deliver thee into the hand

of them whom thou hatest, into the hand of them from whom thy mind is

alienated:

[29] And they shall deal with thee hatefully, and shall take away all thy

labour, and shall leave thee naked and bare: and the nakedness of thy

whoredoms shall be discovered, both thy lewdness and thy whoredoms.

[30] I will do these things unto thee, because thou hast gone a whoring

after the heathen, and because thou art polluted with their idols.

[31] Thou hast walked in the way of thy sister; therefore will I give her

cup into thine hand.

[32] Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou shalt drink of thy sister's cup deep and

large: thou shalt be laughed to scorn and had in derision; it containeth much.

[33] Thou shalt be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, with the cup of

astonishment and desolation, with the cup of thy sister Samaria.

[34] Thou shalt even drink it and suck it out, and thou shalt break the

sherds thereof, and pluck off thine own breasts: for I have spoken it,

saith the Lord GOD.

[35] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast forgotten me, and

cast me behind thy back, therefore bear thou also thy lewdness and thy

whoredoms.

[36] The LORD said moreover unto me; Son of man, wilt thou judge Aholah and

Aholibah? yea, declare unto them their abominations;

[37] That they have committed adultery, and blood is in their hands, and

with their idols have they committed adultery, and have also caused their

sons, whom they bare unto me, to pass for them through the fire, to devour them.

[38] Moreover this they have done unto me: they have defiled my

sanctuary in the same day, and have profaned my sabbaths.

[39] For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came

the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done

in the midst of mine house.

[40] And furthermore, that ye have sent for men to come from far, unto whom

a messenger was sent; and, lo, they came: for whom thou didst wash thyself,

paintedst thy eyes, and deckedst thyself with ornaments,

[41] And satest upon a stately bed, and a table prepared before it,

whereupon thou hast set mine incense and mine oil.

[42] And a voice of a multitude being at ease was with her: and with the men

of the common sort were brought Sabeans from the wilderness, which put

bracelets upon their hands, and beautiful crowns upon their heads.

[43] Then said I unto her that was old in adulteries, Will they now commit

whoredoms with her, and she with them?

[44] Yet they went in unto her, as they go in unto a woman that playeth the

harlot: so went they in unto Aholah and unto Aholibah, the lewd women.

[45] And the righteous men, they shall judge them after the manner of

adulteresses, and after the manner of women that shed blood; because they

are adulteresses, and blood is in their hands.

[46] For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will bring up a company upon them, and

will give them to be removed and spoiled.

[47] And the company shall stone them with stones, and dispatch them with

their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up

their houses with fire.

[48] Thus will I cause lewdness to cease out of the land, that all women may

be taught not to do after your lewdness.

[49] And they shall recompense your lewdness upon you, and ye shall bear the

sins of your idols: and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

2 Kings 24:20

20 (2Ch 36:13) Because of the anger of the Lord this happened

in Jerusalem and Judah until He threw them out from His presence.

But Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

[20] For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and

Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled

against the king of Babylon.

They built siege mounds against it all around.

2 The city came under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

[1] And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month,

in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he,

and all his host, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built

forts against it round about.

[2] And the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.

Jeremiah 52:3-5

Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

4 (Jer 39:1; Eze 24:1-2) In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month,

in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came,

they built a siege wall all around it.

5 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

[3] For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and

Ezekiel 24

The Siege of Jerusalem

1 (Eze 8:1; 20:1) And in the ninth year, in the tenth month,

on the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

2 (2Ki 25:1; Jer 39:1) Son of man, write the name of the day, this same day.

The king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this same day.

3 (Eze 11:3; 17:2) Utter a parable to the rebellious house and say to them,

Thus says the Lord God:

Put on the pot, put it on,

and also pour water into it.

4 (Mic 3:2-3) Gather the pieces into it,

even every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder.

Fill it with the choice bones;

5 (Jer 52:10; 52:24-27) take the choicest of the flock,

and also pile the bones under it;

make it boil well,

also seethe its bones in it.

6 (Eze 22:2; Na 3:1) Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Woe to the bloody city,

to the pot whose rust is in it,

and whose rust has not gone out of it!

Take out of it piece by piece

without choosing.

7 (Lev 17:13; Dt 12:16) For her blood is in her midst;

she set it on the bare rock;

she did not pour it on the ground

to cover it with dust.

8 That it may cause fury to come up to take vengeance,

I have set her blood on the bare rock,

that it may not be covered.

9 (Isa 30:33; Eze 24:6) Therefore thus says the Lord God:

Woe to the bloody city!

I will also make the pile great.

10 Heap on wood,

kindle the fire;

boil the flesh,

and spice it well,

and let the bones be burned.

11 (Jer 21:10; Mal 4:1) Then set it empty on its coals,

so that it may be hot and its bronze may glow,

and its filthiness may be melted in it,

and its rust may be consumed.

12 (Jer 9:5) She has wearied Me with toil,

and her great rust has not gone from her.

Let her rust be in the fire.

13 (Jer 6:28-30; Eze 5:13) In your filthiness is lewdness.

Because I would have purged you, yet you are not purged,

you shall not be purged from your filthiness anymore until

I have caused My fury to rest on you.

14 (Eze 18:30; Nu 23:19) I the Lord have spoken. It shall come to pass

and I will act. I will not go back, nor will I spare, nor will I be sorry.

According to your ways and according to your deeds, I shall judge you,

says the Lord God.

Ezekiel 24

[1] Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the

month, the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

[2] Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the

king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.

[3] And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus

saith the Lord GOD; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:

[4] Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and

the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.

[5] Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make

it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.

[6] Wherefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot

whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out

piece by piece; let no lot fall up on it.

[7] For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a

rock;

she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;

[8] That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her

blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.

[9] Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe to the bloody city! I will even

make the pile for fire great.

[10] Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well,

and let the bones be burned.

[11] Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be

hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that

the scum of it may be consumed.

[12] She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth

out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

[13] In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou

wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till

I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

[14] I the LORD have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I

will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to

thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the

Lord GOD.

Entitled "Radiant Drifters"

Philippians 3:10-21

10 (Ro 8:17; 8:29) to know Him, and the power of His resurrection,

and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,

11 (Ac 26:7) if somehow I might make it to the resurrection of the dead.

Pressing Toward the Mark

12 (1Co 13:10; 1Ti 6:19) Not that I have already attained or have already been

perfected, but I follow after it so that I may lay hold of that for which

I was seized by Christ Jesus.

13 (Lk 9:62; Ps 45:10) Brothers, I do not count myself to have attained,

but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind

and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,

14 (Heb 3:1; 1Pe 5:10) I press toward the goal to the prize of the high

calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 (1Co 2:6; Gal 5:10) Therefore let those of us who are mature be thus

minded. And if you think differently in any way,

God will reveal even this to you.

16 (Gal 6:16) Nevertheless, according to what we have already attained,

let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

17 (1Co 4:16; 1Pe 5:3) Brothers, become fellow imitators with me

and observe those who walk according to our example.

18 (Gal 6:12) For many are walking in such a way that they are the enemies

of the cross of Christ. I have told you of them often and tell you again,

even weeping.

19 (Ro 16:18; 2Pe 2:3) Their destination is destruction, their god

is their appetite, their glory is in their shame, their minds

are set on earthly things.

20 (Eph 2:19; 1Co 1:7; Ac 1:11) But our citizenship is in heaven, from

where also we await for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,

21 (Col 3:4) who will transform our body of humiliation,

so that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working

of His power even to subdue all things to Himself.

[10] That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the

fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

[11] If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

[12] Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but

I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended

of Christ Jesus.

[13] Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I

do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those

things which are before,

[14] I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in

Christ Jesus.

[15] Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any

thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

[16] Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same

rule, let us mind the same thing.

[17] Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as

ye have us for an ensample.

[18] (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even

weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

[19] Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is

in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

[20] For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the

Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

[21] Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his

glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue

all things unto himself.

Under the night sky in the spring of 2020, surfers rode bioluminescent waves

along the coast of San Diego. These lightshows were caused by microscopic

organisms called phytoplankton, a name derived from a Greek word meaning

"wanderer" or "drifter." During the day, the living organisms create red tides

and capture sunlight that converts into chemical energy. When disturbed

in the darkness, they produce an electric blue light.

Believers in Jesus are citizens of heaven who, much like the red-tide algae,

live like wanderers or drifters on earth. When difficult circumstances disturb

our well-laid plans, the Holy Spirit empowers us to respond like

Jesus-the Light of the World-so we can reflect His radiant character in the

darkness. According to Paul the apostle, nothing is more valuable than our

intimacy with Christ and the righteousness that comes through our faith in Him (Philippians 3:8–9). His life proved that knowing Jesus and the power of His

resurrection changes us, impacting the way we live and the way we respond

when trials disrupt our lives (vv. 10-16).

When we spend time with God's Son daily, the Holy Spirit equips us with the

truth we need-enabling us to face every challenge on this earth in ways that

reflect Christ's character (vv. 17–21). We can be beacons of God's love and

hope, cutting through the darkness until the day He calls us home

or comes again.

Reflect & Pray

How has your perspective on life's challenges changed as you've considered

what Christ has done for you? What can you do to become radiant

with the character of Christ?

Merciful Jesus, when difficult circumstances come,

please shine through me and help me point others to You.

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 7 - Upheld by His Hand

Is 41:10

10 (Jos 1:9; Isa 41:13-14) Do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you,

yes, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:

I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee;

yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Beth had the same recurring nightmare: she was running along a cliff,

then she slipped, and fell headlong, into a bottomless ravine.

Falling, without control, without end, falling, falling, falling...

Beth's dream may be one many of us identify with. The sense

of losing control can be nightmarish, and we may fear falling

without end, without remedy. Financial failure may be the chasm

that we face, or professional disgrace. Personal relationships

may go out of control, and we look into a never-ending

ravine of pain and misunderstanding

But God says, "Don't be afraid; I am holding you up."

Like the father who helps his child learn to swim,

God holds us above the water. We may not feel his hands;

indeed, we may suspect that he lets us go just so we can

do it on our own. But he promises that he doesn't let go.

"I am with you." he declares. "I give you strength

and hold you up."

God's promise never to let go takes on new meaning

in a world where relationships are temporary and life is

uncertain. We do not need to fear, for he is with us.

We can relax and stop striving, for he is our God.

His strength becomes ours; amid all our sin and rebellion,

he undergirds us with his righteousness. We cannot fall,

for he holds us firm.

Application

a) Under what circumstances have I felt myself "falling"?

b) How does God's promise in Is 41:10 help me to have faith

Psalm 13

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

1 How long, O Lord? Will You forget me for good?

How long will you hide Your face from me?

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) How long will I harbour cares in my soul

and sorrow in my heart by day?

How long will my enemy loom over me?

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Take note and answer me, O Lord my God!

Brighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) lest my enemy say, 'I have him,'

lest my foes exult when I stumble.

5(Ps 42:11; 43:5) I for my part confide in Your kindness;

may my heart exult in Your salvation!

6(2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9 ) I will sing to the Lord,

because He has dealt bountifully with me.

Psalm 13

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever?

How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?

2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart daily?

How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?

3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God:

Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;

4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him;

And those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.

5 But I have trusted in thy mercy;

My heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.

6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim

population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist

church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton

also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship

getherings, and outreaches on campus.

Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the

campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.

Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,

and between 300 to 400 university students.

Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,

which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.

a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,

has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow

into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has

been primarily for university students moving into the area.

Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick

- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened

to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened

to sharing God's love in Jesus Christ with them

- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these

areas of concentration

- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,

and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

And

Thank you for praying through the

5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.

Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the

love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.

One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by

light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.

As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and

confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution

to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.

Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father

to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.

I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.

God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through

the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom

and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."

13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,

through the power of the Holy Spirit.

[13] Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
