and made him king in the place of his father in Jerusalem.

2 And Jehoahaz was 23 years old when he began to reign,

and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

3 Then the king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem and imposed on the land

a tribute of a hundred talents [About 33/4 tons, or 3.4 metric tons.]

of silver and a talent [About 75 pounds, or 34 kilograms.] of gold.

31 (2Ki 24:18; 1Ch 3:15) Jehoahaz was 23 years old when he became king,

and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal

daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

32 (2Ki 21:2-7) He did evil in the sight of the Lord,

according to all that his fathers had done.

33 (1Ki 8:65; 2Ki 25:6) Pharaoh Necho imprisoned him at Riblah

in the land of Hamath, so that he might not reign in Jerusalem,

and imposed tribute on the land of a hundred talents

[About 3 3/4 tons, or 3.4 metric tons.] of silver and a talent

[About 75 pounds, or 34 kilograms.] of gold.

34 (Eze 19:3-4; 2Ki 24:17) Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim son of Josiah king

in place of Josiah his father and changed his name to Jehoiakim.

He took Jehoahaz away and went to Egypt, and he died there.

35 (2Ki 23:33) Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh,

but he taxed the land to give the money according to Pharaoh's demand.

According to an assessed amount, he exacted the silver

and gold from the people of the land to give to Pharaoh Necho.

reigned three months in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal, the

daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

[32] And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to

all that his fathers had done.

[33] And Pharaoh-nechoh put him in bands at Riblah in the land of Hamath,

that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of an

hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

[34] And Pharaoh-nechoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the room of

Josiah his father, and turned his name to Jehoiakim, and took Jehoahaz away:

and he came to Egypt, and died there.

[35] And Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the

land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted

the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of every one according to

his taxation, to give it unto Pharaoh-nechoh.

[36] Jehoiakim was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he

reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zebudah, the

Jeremiah 22:1-23

Jeremiah 22

Impending Judgment

1 Thus says the Lord: Go down to the house of the king of Judah,

and speak this word there,

2 (Lk 1:32; Isa 9:7a) nd say: Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah

who sits on the throne of David, you and your servants

and your people who enter by these gates.

3 (Jer 21:12; 22:17) Thus says the Lord: Execute justice and righteousness,

and deliver the robbed out of the hand of the oppressor.

And do no wrong or violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow,

neither shed innocent blood in this place.

4 (Jer 17:25) For if you indeed do these things, then kings sitting

on the throne of David will enter by the gates of this house,

riding in chariots and on horses, he and his servants and his people.

5 (Heb 6:13; Ge 22:16) But if you will not obey these words,

I swear by Myself, says the Lord, that this house will become a desolation.

6 (Ge 37:25; Ps 107:34) For thus says the Lord to the king's house of Judah:

You are Gilead to Me,

and the peak of Lebanon;

yet surely I will make you a wilderness

and cities which are not inhabited.

7 (Isa 37:24; 10:33-34) I will prepare destroyers against you,

everyone with his weapons;

and they shall cut down your choice cedars

and cast them into the fire.

8 (1Ki 9:8-9; 2Ch 7:20-22) Many nations will pass by this city,

and every man will say to his neighbour,

"Why has the Lord done thus to this great city?"

9 (2Ki 22:17; 2Ch 34:25) Then they will answer,

"Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God,

and worshipped other gods, and served them."

10 (Ecc 4:2; Isa 57:1) Do not weep for the dead nor bemoan him,

but weep constantly for him who goes away;

for he will return no more

nor see his native country.

11 (1Ch 3:15; 2Ch 36:1-4) For thus says the Lord concerning Shallum

the son of Josiah king of Judah, who became king instead of Josiah his father,

who went from this place: He will not return any more,

12 (2Ki 23:34; Jer 22:18) but will die in the place

where they have led him captive

and will see this land no more.

13 (Lev 19:13; Mic 3:10) Woe to him who builds his house with unrighteousness

and his chambers with injustice,

who uses his neighbor's services without wages,

and gives him nothing for his work,

14 (2Sa 7:2; Isa 5:8-9) who says, "I will build myself a roomy house

and large chambers,"

and cuts out its windows,

paneling it with cedar

and painting it with vermilion.

15 (2Ki 23:25; Isa 3:10; Jer 21:12) Do you reign

because you compete in cedar?

Did not your father eat and drink

and do justice and righteousness,

and then it was well with him?

16 (Ps 72:1-4; 72:12-13) He judged the cause of the poor and needy;

then it was well with him.

Is not this what it means to know Me?

says the Lord.

17 (2Ki 24:4; Jer 22:3) But your eyes and your heart

are intent only on your covetousness

and on shedding innocent blood

and on oppression and violence.

18 (1Ki 13:30; Jer 16:4) Therefore thus says the Lord concerning

Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

They will not lament for him, saying,

"Ah, my brother!" or, "Ah, sister!"

They will not lament for him, saying,

"Ah, lord!" or, "Ah, his glory!"

19 (Jer 36:30; 1Ki 21:23-24) He will be buried with the burial of a donkey,

drawn and cast out

beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

20 (Nu 27:12) Go up to Lebanon and cry out,

and lift up your voice in Bashan,

and cry out from Abarim,

for all your lovers are destroyed.

21 (Jer 3:25; 32:30) I spoke to you in your prosperity,

but you said, "I will not listen!"

This has been your manner from your youth,

that you have not obeyed My voice.

22 (Jer 20:11) The wind will sweep away all your shepherds,

and your lovers shall go into captivity;

surely then you will be ashamed and humiliated

for all your wickedness.

23 (Jer 6:24; 22:6) O inhabitant of Lebanon,

who makes your nest in the cedars,

how you will groan when pangs come upon you,

the pain as of a woman in labor!

Jeremiah 22

[1] Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and

speak there this word,

[2] And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon

the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by

these gates:

[3] Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver

the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no

violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed

innocent blood in this place.

[4] For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates

of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and

on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.

[5] But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD,

that this house shall become a desolation.

[6] For thus saith the LORD unto the king's house of Judah; Thou art Gilead

unto me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness,

and cities which are not inhabited.

[7] And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons:

and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.

[8] And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man

to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?

[9] Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the

LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.

[10] Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep sore for him

that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.

[11] For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of

Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of

this place; He shall not return thither any more:

[12] But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and

shall see this land no more.

[13] Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his

chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and

giveth him not for his work;

[14] That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and

cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with cedar, and painted with

vermilion.

[15] Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy

father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with

him?

[16] He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him:

was not this to know me? saith the LORD.

[17] But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness, and

for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

[18] Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah

king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah

sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!

[19] He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth

beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

[20] Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry

from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.

[21] I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear.

This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.

[22] The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into

captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy

wickedness.

[23] O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious

shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

Jeremiah 26

Jeremiah Threatened With Death

1 (2Ch 36:4-5; Jer 27:1) In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim

the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came from the Lord, saying:

2 (Dt 4:2; Jer 19:14) Thus says the Lord: Stand in the court of the house

of the Lord, and speak to all the cities of Judah who come to worship

in the house of the Lord all the words that I command you to speak to them.

Do not diminish a word.

3 (Jer 18:7-10; 36:3) Perhaps they will listen and turn every man

from his evil way, that I may repent of the calamity which I purpose to do

to them because of the evil of their deeds.

4 (1Ki 9:6; Isa 1:20) You will say to them: Thus says the Lord:

If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law which I have set before you,

5 (Jer 25:3-4; 2Ki 9:7) to listen to the words of My servants the prophets,

whom I sent to you, both rising up early and sending them,

but you have not listened,

6 (2Ki 22:19; Jer 24:9) then I will make this house like Shiloh

and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

7 (Jer 5:31; Mic 3:11) So the priests and the prophets and all the people

heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord.

8 (La 4:13-14) And when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking

all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people,

the priests and the prophets and all the people took hold of him,

saying, "You shall surely die.

9 Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying,

'This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate

without an inhabitant'?" And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah

in the house of the Lord.

10 (Jer 36:10) When the officials of Judah heard these things,

then they came up from the king's house to the house of the Lord

and sat down in the entry of the New Gate of the house of the Lord.

11 (Jer 38:4; Dt 18:20) Then the priests and the prophets spoke

to the officials and to all the people, saying,

"This man deserves to die! For he has prophesied against this city,

as you have heard with your ears."

12 (Jer 26:15; Ac 4:19) Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials

and to all the people, saying, "The Lord sent me to prophesy

against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.

13 (Jer 26:3; Joel 2:14) Therefore now amend your ways and your deeds,

and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will repent

of the disaster that He has pronounced against you.

14 (Jer 38:5; Jos 9:25) As for me, here I am in your hand.

Do with me as seems good and right to you.

15 (Nu 35:33; Pr 6:17) But know for certain that if you put me to death,

you will surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city

and upon the inhabitants. For truly the Lord has sent me to you to speak

all these words in your ears."

Jeremiah Spared From Death

16 (Ac 5:34-39; 23:9) Then the officials and all the people said

to the priests and to the prophets, "This man is not worthy of death.

For he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God."

17 (Ac 5:34) Then certain of the elders of the land rose up

and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying:

18 (Ne 4:2; Jer 9:11) "Micah of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah

king of Judah, and spoke to all the people of Judah, saying,

'Thus says the Lord of Hosts:

Zion shall be plowed like a field,

and Jerusalem shall become heaps,

and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.'

19 (Ex 32:14; 2Sa 24:16) Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him

to death? Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the Lord, and the Lord relented

of the disaster which He had pronounced against them?

Thus we might procure great evil against ourselves."

20 (1Sa 7:2; Jos 9:17) There was also a man that prophesied in the name

of the Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath Jearim,

who prophesied against this city and against this land

according to all the words of Jeremiah.

21 (Mt 10:23; 2Ch 16:10) And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men

and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death.

But when Uriah heard it, he was afraid and fled and went into Egypt.

22 (2Ki 22:12; 22:14) And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt: namely,

Elnathan the son of Akbor and certain men with him into Egypt.

23 (Jer 2:30) They brought Uriah out of Egypt and led him to Jehoiakim

the king, who slew him with the sword and cast his dead body

into the graves of the common people.

24 (1Ki 18:4; 2Ki 22:12-14) Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam

the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, with the result that

he was not given into the hands of the people to put him to death.

Jeremiah 26

[1] In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of

Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

[2] Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak

unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD's house, all

the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

[3] If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I

may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the

evil of their doings.

[4] And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not

hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

[5] To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto

you, both rising up early, and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;

[6] Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse

to all the nations of the earth.

[7] So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah

speaking these words in the house of the LORD.

[8] Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that

the LORD had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests

and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely

die.

[9] Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house

shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an

inhabitant?

And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

[10] When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from

the king's house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of

the new gate of the LORD's house.

[11] Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all

the

people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against

this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

[12] Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people,

saying,

The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all

the words that ye have heard.

[13] Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of

the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath

pronounced against you.

[14] As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and

meet unto you.

[15] But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely

bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the

inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak

all these words in your ears.

[16] Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the

prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the

name of the LORD our God.

[17] Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the

assembly of the people, saying,

[18] Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah,

and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts;

Zion shall be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the

mountains of the house as the high places of a forest.

[19] Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did

he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of

the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great

evil against our souls.

[20] And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD,

Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this

city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

[21] And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the

princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when

Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;

[22] And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of

Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt.

[23] And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto

Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into

the graves of the common people.

[24] Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah,

that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to

death.

2 Kings 24:1-4

2 Kings 24

Judah Overrun by Enemies

1 (Jer 25:1; Da 1:1) In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up,

and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years. Then he turned

and rebelled against him.

2 (Jer 35:11; 2Ki 23:27; 6:23) The Lord sent against him bands of

Chaldeans, bands of Arameans, bands of Moabites, and bands of Ammonites.

He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word

of the Lord that He spoke by His servants the prophets.

3 (2Ki 18:25) Surely at the decree of the Lord this came upon Judah,

to remove them from before Him, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all

that he had done,

4 (2Ki 21:16) and also for the innocent blood that he had shed, for he

filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to pardon.

2 Kings 24

[1] In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became

his servant three years: then he turned and rebelled against him.

[2] And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the

Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and

sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD,

which he spake by his servants the prophets.

[3] Surely at the commandment of the LORD came this upon Judah, to remove

them out of his sight, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he did;

[4] And also for the innocent blood that he shed: for he filled Jerusalem

with innocent blood; which the LORD would not pardon.

Jeremiah 25:1-14

Jeremiah 25

Seventy Years of Captivity

1 (Jer 36:1; 2Ki 24:1-2) The word that came to Jeremiah concerning

all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah,

king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,

2 (Jer 18:11) which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah

and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying:

3 (Jer 1:2; 11:7) From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon,

king of Judah, even to this day, these 23 years the word of the Lord

has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking,

but you have not listened.

4 (Jer 25:3; 26:5) The Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets,

rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined

your ear to hear.

5 (Jer 7:7; Ge 17:8) They said, "Turn now again everyone from his evil way

and from the evil of your deeds, and dwell in the land that the Lord has

given to you and to your fathers forever and ever.

6 (Dt 8:19; 6:14) And do not go after other gods to serve them

and to worship them, and provoke Me not to anger

with the works of your hands; and I will do you no harm."

7 (2Ki 21:15; Dt 32:21) Yet you have not listened to Me, says the Lord,

that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands

to your own harm.

8 Therefore thus says the Lord of Hosts: Because you have not obeyed My words,

9 (Jer 1:15; 18:16) I will send and take all the families of the north,

says the Lord, and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant,

and will bring them against this land and its inhabitants,

and against all these surrounding nations; I will utterly destroy them,

and make them an astonishment, a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

10 (Jer 7:34; Eze 26:13) Moreover I will take from them the voice of laughter

and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice

of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the candle.

11 (Da 9:2; 2Ch 36:21-22) This whole land shall be a desolation

and an astonishment, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon

seventy years.

12 (Isa 13:19; Jer 29:10) It shall come to pass when seventy years

are finished that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation,

says the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans,

and will make it perpetual desolations.

13 (Jer 1:5; 1:10) I will bring upon that land all My words

which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book,

which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.

14 (Jer 51:6; 27:7; 50:9) For many nations and great kings will make

slaves of them, even them. And I will recompense them according

to their deeds and according to the works of their hands.

Jeremiah 25

[1] The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the

fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first

year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

[2] The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and

to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

[3] From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even

unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD

hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking;

but ye have not hearkened.

[4] And the LORD hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising

early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to

hear.

[5] They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the

evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you

and to your fathers for ever and ever:

[6] And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and

provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no

hurt.

[7] Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the LORD; that ye might provoke

me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

[8] Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Because ye have not heard my

words,

[9] Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the

LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring

them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against

all

these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an

astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

[10] Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of

gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound

of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

[11] And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and

these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

[12] And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I

will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their

iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual

desolations.

[13] And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced

against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath

prophesied against all the nations.

[14] For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also:

and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the

works of their own hands.

Entitled "Life-Giving Correction"

Proverbs 15:31-33

31 (Pr 15:5; 25:12) The ear that hears the reproof of life

abides among the wise.

32 He who refuses instruction despises his own soul,

but he who hears reproof gains understanding.

33 (Pr 1:7; 18:12) The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,

and before honor is humility.

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life

Abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul:

But he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom;

And before honour is humility.

"Unfortunately, we had a pretty hard conversation recently," said Shellie.

"I don't think either of us enjoyed it, but I really felt her attitude and

actions needed to be addressed in order to keep from hurting those around her."

Shellie was talking about the young woman she mentors. Although uncomfortable,

their conversation was fruitful and actually strengthened their relationship.

Just a few weeks later, the two women led a church-wide prayer time with

the theme of humility.

Even outside of a formal mentoring relationship, we'll face a tough

conversation or two with a brother or sister in Christ. In Proverbs, a book

full of timeless wisdom, the importance of humility in giving and receiving

correction is a repeated theme. In fact, constructive criticism is called

"life-giving" and leads to true wisdom (Proverbs 15:31). Proverbs 15:5 says a

fool spurns discipline, while those who heed correction show good judgment.

Put plainly, "the one who hates correction will die" (v. 10). As Shellie

witnessed, truth spoken in love can bring new life to a relationship.

Is there someone in your life to whom a word of loving, life-giving correction

should be spoken? Or perhaps you have recently received wise admonition and

been tempted to respond with anger or indifference. To disregard discipline is

to despise oneself, but to heed correction is to gain understanding (v. 32).

Let's ask God to help us give and receive correction with humility today.

By: Karen Pimpo

Reflect & Pray

How do you handle constructive criticism? What does humility look like?

Dear God, I seek Your wisdom.

Please give me a humble heart, ready to receive life-giving correction.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 3 The Kind Heart of Forgiveness

Eph 4:32

32 (2Co 2:10; Col 3:12-13; Mt 6:12) And be kind one to another,

tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.

32 and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,

even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Don had lost his job because he stood against his boss and refused to

compromise his Christian principles. Certain friends in the company had

turned against him, choosing to save their own jobs at any cost,

and he felt very alone, abandoned when he most needed the support

of those who cared.

But Don showed no signs of bitterness or unforgiveness. He refused to

recite the details of his firing to those around him, saying simply and

honestly, " I believe my boss was wrong in what he did. But God can show

him." The kindness of Don's heart ., and the tenderness with which he

extended forgiveness, became a testimony to all who knew him. Don's

boss never "saw the light", never repented, but Don lived in the freedom of

forgiving.

Comparison is a rare commodity among Christains today. We seem to be

overstocked with judgment and crammed full of condemnation, but we have

little space in the corners of our lives for tenderheartedness. We are quick

to assume that we know another person's heart and have the remedy for

the problem, rather then giving that person the benefit of the doubt,

the room to grow, the freedom to make a mistake and seek forgiveness.

Jesus demonstrated the king compassion necessary in forgiveness when he

looked down at the soldiers who has crucified him, gambling at his feet

for his cloak, and said, "Father , forgive them, for they do not know what

are doing."

When others hurt and betray us, they often "do not know what they are

doing." we can, in Christ, offer compassionate forgiveness to them -

not condoning their actions or excusing their wrong, but forgiving ,

in the simplicity and purity of God's love.

Application

a) What is the difference between excusing a wrong and forgiving?

b) How has God forgiven me for Christ's sake?

c) What does today's verse tell me about my attitude in forgiveness?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

Is 48:15,17

15 I, even I, have spoken, and I have called him;

I have brought him, and his way will prosper.

17 (Ps 32:8; Isa 43:14) Thus says the Lord,

your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:

I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit,

who leads you in the way you should go.

15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him:

I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.

17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel;

I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit,

which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

Ps 91

PSALMS 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High

shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress,

my God in whom I trust."

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the hunter

and from the deadly pestilence.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) He shall cover you with His feathers,

and under His wings you shall find protection;

His faithfulness shall be your shield and wall.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,

nor of the arrow that flies by day;

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) nor of the pestilence that pursues in darkness,

nor of the destruction that strikes at noonday.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) A thousand may fall at your side

and ten thousand at your right hand,

but it shall not come near you.

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) Only with your eyes shall you behold

to guard you in all your ways.

12 They shall bear you up in their hands,

lest you strike your foot against a stone.

13 You shall tread upon the lion and adder;

the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.

I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

I will be with him in trouble,

and I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life I will satisfy him

and show him My salvation.

Nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness;

Nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand;

But it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold

And see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge,

Even the most High, thy habitation;

Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:

The young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him:

I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him:

I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

6) This come from Praying for Muslims in Canada 2015 (Is there a 2021 edition?)

New Brunswick

Total population 753900

Muslim population (est.) 4543

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim

population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist

church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton

also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship

getherings, and outreaches on campus.

Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the

campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.

Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,

and between 300 to 400 university students.

Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,

which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.

a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,

has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow

into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has

been primarily for university students moving into the area.

Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick

- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened

to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened

to sharing God's love in Jesus Christ with them

- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these

areas of concentration

- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,

and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

And

Thank you for praying through the

5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.

Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the

love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.

One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by

light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.

As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and

confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution

to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.

Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father

to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.

I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.

God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through

the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom

and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."

13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,

through the power of the Holy Spirit.

[13] Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
