Day 222 of the 2nd Bible Study Journey - 10 August 2022 reflections

Day 222, 10 August 2022

1) Jeremiah 23:33-40,24,29-31:14

Jeremiah 23

False Prophecy

33 (Mal 1:1; Isa 13:1) When this people or the prophet or a priest asks you,

saying, "What is the oracle of the Lord?" you shall then say to them,

"What oracle? I will forsake you, says the Lord."

34 As for the prophet and the priest and the people who say,

"The oracle of the Lord," I will punish that man and his house.

35 Thus each of you will say to his neighbor and to his brother,

"What has the Lord answered?" and, "What has the Lord spoken?"

36 (2Pe 3:16; 2Ki 19:4) And the oracle of the Lord you shall mention

no more, for every man's word will be his oracle.

For you have perverted the words of the living God,

of the Lord of Hosts our God.

37 Thus you will say to that prophet, "What has the Lord answered you?"

and, "What has the Lord spoken?"

38 But if you say, "The oracle of the Lord"; therefore thus says the Lord:

Because you say this word, "The oracle of the Lord," I have also sent to you,

saying, You shall not say, "The oracle of the Lord."

39 (Jer 23:33; Eze 8:18) Therefore, surely, I, even I, will utterly forget you

and cast you and the city that I gave you and your fathers out of My presence.

40 (Jer 20:11; Eze 5:14-15) And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you

and perpetual shame which shall not be forgotten.

[33] And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee,

saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What

burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD.

[34] And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say,

The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.

[35] Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his

brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?

[36] And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man's

word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God,

of the LORD of hosts our God.

[37] Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee?

and, What hath the LORD spoken?

[38] But since ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the

LORD; Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto

you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;

[39] Therefore, behold, I, even I, will utterly forget you, and I will

forsake you, and the city that I gave you and your fathers, and cast you

out of my presence:

[40] And I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual

shame, which shall not be forgotten.

Jeremiah 24

The Good and Bad Figs

1 (Jer 29:2; 2Ch 36:10) The Lord showed me two baskets of figs that were

set before the temple of the Lord after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon

had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah,

and the officials of Judah with the carpenters and smiths from Jerusalem

and brought them to Babylon.

2 (Isa 5:4; 5:7) One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that

are first ripe, and the other basket had very rotten figs,

which were so rotten they could not be eaten.

3 (Am 8:2; Zec 4:2) Then the Lord said to me, "What do you see, Jeremiah?"

And I said, "Figs, the good figs, very good. And the rotten, very rotten,

that are so rotten they cannot be eaten."

4 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

5 (Na 1:7; Zec 13:9) Thus says the Lord the God of Israel:

Like these good figs, so I will acknowledge those who are carried away captive

of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans

for their good.

6 (Jer 29:10; 42:10) For I will set My eyes upon them for good,

and I will bring them again to this land. And I will build them up

and not pull them down. And I will plant them and not pluck them up.

7 (Jer 30:22; Heb 8:10) I will give them a heart to know Me,

that I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God,

for they will return to Me with their whole heart.

8 (Jer 24:2; 43:1-44:1) But as the rotten figs, which cannot be eaten,

they are so rotten, says the Lord, so I will forsake Zedekiah

the king of Judah and his officials, and the rest of Jerusalem

who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt.

9 (Jer 15:4; 29:18) And I will make them a horror

and an evil to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a reproach

and a byword, a taunt and a curse, in all places wherever I shall drive them.

10 (Isa 51:19; Eze 5:12-17) I will send the sword, the famine,

and the pestilence among them until they are consumed from

off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.

Jeremiah 24

[1] The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs were set before

the

temple of the LORD, after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried

away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah, and the

princes of

Judah, with the carpenters and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them

to Babylon.

[2] One basket had very good figs, even like the figs that are first ripe:

and the other basket had very naughty figs, which could not be eaten, they

were so bad.

[3] Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said,

Figs;

the good figs, very good; and the evil, very evil, that cannot be eaten,

they are so evil.

[4] Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

[5] Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I

acknowledge them that are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent

out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

[6] For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them

again

to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will

plant them, and not pluck them up.

[7] And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they

shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me

with their whole heart.

[8] And as the evil figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so evil; surely

thus saith the LORD, So will I give Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his

princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them

that dwell in the land of Egypt:

[9] And I will deliver them to be removed into all the kingdoms of the

earth

for their hurt, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all

places whither I shall drive them.

[10] And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them,

till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their

fathers.

Jeremiah 29

Jeremiah's Letter to the Exiles

1 (Est 9:20) Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah

the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders of the captivity,

and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people

whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon.

2 (Jer 22:24-28; 2Ki 24:12-16) (This was after Jeconiah the king,

and the queen, and the eunuchs, and the officials of Judah and Jerusalem,

and the carpenters, and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem.)

3 It was sent by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah

the son of Hilkiah (whom Zedekiah, king of Judah, sent to Babylon

to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), saying:

4 (Jer 24:5) Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel,

to all who have been carried away captive whom I have caused

to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon:

5 (Jer 29:28) Build houses and dwell in them; and plant gardens

and eat their fruit.

6 (Jer 16:2-4) Take wives and beget sons and daughters;

and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands,

so that they may bear sons and daughters; so that you may increase

there and not diminish.

7 (Ezr 6:10; 1Ti 2:1-2) Seek the peace of the city where I have caused

you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it;

for in its peace you will have peace.

8 (Jer 5:31; 14:14) For thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel:

Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you,

and do not listen to the dreams which they dream.

9 (Jer 27:15; 29:31) For they prophesy falsely to you in My name. I have not

sent them, says the Lord.

10 (Jer 25:12; 27:22) For thus says the Lord: When seventy years have been

completed for Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you,

in causing you to return to this place.

11 (Ps 40:5; Jer 30:18-22) For I know the plans that I have for you,

says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future

and a hope.

12 (Jer 33:3; Ps 50:15) Then you shall call upon Me, and you shall come

and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

13 (Jer 24:7; 2Ch 22:9) You shall seek Me and find Me, when you shall search

for Me with all your heart.

14 (Jer 30:3; Ps 32:6) I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will turn

away your captivity and gather you from all the nations

and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord,

and I will bring you back into the place from

where I caused you to be carried away captive.

15 Because you have said, "The Lord has raised up prophets for us

in Babylon,"

16 (Jer 38:2-3; 38:17-23) thus says the Lord concerning the king

who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people

who dwell in this city, your brothers who did not go out with you into exile,

17 (Jer 24:8-10; 29:18) thus says the Lord of Hosts:

I will send upon them the sword, the famine, and the pestilence,

and will make them like vile figs that cannot be eaten, they are so rotten.

18 (2Ch 29:8; Jer 15:4) I will pursue them with the sword, with famine,

and with pestilence; and will make them a terror to all the kingdoms

of the earth, to be a curse and an astonishment,

a hissing and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,

19 (Jer 6:19; 26:5) because they have not listened to My words, says the Lord,

which I sent to them by My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending

them. But you would not listen, says the Lord.

20 (Jer 24:5; Mic 4:10) Therefore hear the word of the Lord,

all you in captivity

whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon.

21 (Jer 14:14-15; 29:8-9) Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel,

concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and concerning Zedekiah the son

of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in My name:

I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon,

and he shall slay them before your eyes.

22 (Da 3:6; Isa 65:15) And because of them a curse shall be taken up

by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying,

"May the Lord make you like Zedekiah and Ahab,

whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,"

23 (Jer 23:14; Mal 3:5) because they have committed folly in Israel,

and have committed adultery with their neighbours' wives,

and have spoken lying words in My name, which I have not commanded them.

Indeed, I know and am a witness, says the Lord.

A Message to Shemaiah

24 (Jer 29:31-32) Thus you shall also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite,

saying:

25 (Jer 29:29; 37:3) Thus says the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel:

Because you have sent letters in your name to all the people

who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest,

and to all the priests, saying,

26 (Jer 20:1-2; 2Ki 9:11; Hos 9:7) The Lord has made you priest instead

of Jehoiada the priest, that you should be officers in the house of the Lord,

for every man that is mad and makes himself a prophet, that you should

put him in the stocks and in prison.

27 Now therefore why have you not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth

who prophesies to you?

28 (Jer 29:5) For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying,

"This captivity will be long; build houses and dwell in them,

and plant gardens and eat their fruit."

29 Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.

30 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, saying:

31 (Jer 29:9; 14:14-15)Send to all the captives, saying, Thus says the Lord

concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because Shemaiah has prophesied

to you though I did not send, and he caused you to trust in a lie,

32 (Jer 28:16; 17:6) therefore thus says the Lord: I will punish Shemaiah

the Nehelamite and his seed. He will not have a man to dwell among t

his people, nor will he see the good that I will do for My people,

says the Lord, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord.

Jeremiah 29

[1] Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent

from Jerusalem unto the residue of the elders which were carried away

captives, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people

whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon;

[2] (After that Jeconiah the king, and the queen, and the eunuchs, the

princes of Judah and Jerusalem, and the carpenters, and the smiths, were

departed from Jerusalem;)

[3] By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan, and Gemariah the son of

Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar

king of Babylon) saying,

[4] Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, unto all that are

carried away captives, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem

unto Babylon;

[5] Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the

fruit of them;

[6] Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your

sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and

daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

[7] And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried

away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof

shall ye have peace.

[8] For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your

prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you,

neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed.

[9] For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them,

saith the LORD.

[10] For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be accomplished at

Babylon I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing

you to return to this place.

[11] For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD,

thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

[12] Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I

will hearken unto you.

[13] And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with

all your heart.

[14] And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your

captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the

places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again

into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

[15] Because ye have said, The LORD hath raised us up prophets in Babylon;

[16] Know that thus saith the LORD of the king that sitteth upon the throne

of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, and of your

brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;

[17] Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will send upon them the sword,

the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figs, that

cannot be eaten, they are so evil.

[18] And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the

pestilence, and will deliver them to be removed to all the kingdoms of the

earth, to be a curse, and an astonishment, and an hissing, and a reproach,

among all the nations whither I have driven them:

[19] Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I

sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending

them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD.

[20] Hear ye therefore the word of the LORD, all ye of the captivity,

whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon:

[21] Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of

Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy a lie unto you

in my name; Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar

king of Babylon; and he shall slay them before your eyes;

[22] And of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captivity of Judah

which are in Babylon, saying, The LORD make thee like Zedekiah and like

Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;

[23] Because they have committed villany in Israel, and have committed

adultery with their neighbours' wives, and have spoken lying words in my

name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith

the LORD.

[24] Thus shalt thou also speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

[25] Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because

thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people that are at

Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the

priests, saying,

[26] The LORD hath made thee priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest,

that ye should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is

mad, and maketh himself a prophet, that thou shouldest put him in prison,

and in the stocks.

[27] Now therefore why hast thou not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which

maketh himself a prophet to you?

[28] For therefore he sent unto us in Babylon, saying, This captivity is

long: build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the

fruit of them.

[29] And Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the

prophet.

[30] Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying,

[31] Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the LORD

concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied

unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie:

[32] Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the

Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man to dwell among this

people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people,

saith the LORD; because he hath taught rebellion against the LORD.

Jeremiah 30

Israel and Judah Restored

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:

2 (Isa 30:8; Jer 36:32) Thus says the Lord God of Israel:

Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.

3 (Jer 16:15; 29:14) For surely the days are coming, says the Lord,

when I will restore the fortunes of My people Israel and Judah.

The Lord says, I also will cause them to return to the land that

I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

4 These are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah.

5 (Isa 5:30; Am 5:16-18) For thus says the Lord:

I have heard a sound of trembling,

of fear, and not of peace.

6 (Jer 4:31; 6:24) Ask now, and see,

can a male labor with child?

Why do I see every man

with his hands on his loins, as a woman in labor,

and all faces turned pale?

7 (Joel 2:11; Jer 30:10 )Alas! for that day is great,

so that no one is like it;

it is even the time of Jacob's trouble,

but he shall be saved out of it.

8 (Eze 34:27; Isa 9:4; Jer 27:2) For it shall come to pass in that day,

says the Lord of Hosts,

that I shall break his yoke from off their neck

and tear away their bonds,

and strangers shall no longer make them their slaves.

9 (Hos 3:5; Lk 1:69; Isa 55:3-5) But they shall serve the Lord their God

and David their king,

whom I will raise up for them.

10 (Isa 43:5; Jer 46:27-28) Therefore do not fear, O My servant Jacob,

says the Lord,

nor be dismayed, O Israel;

for I will save you from afar,

and your seed from the land of their captivity.

And Jacob shall return and shall be in rest and be quiet,

and no one shall make him afraid.

11 (Jer 10:24; 4:27) For I am with you, says the Lord,

to save you.

Although I make a full end of all nations

wherever I have scattered you,

yet I will not make a full end of you.

But I will correct you in measure

and will not leave you altogether unpunished.

12 (Jer 15:18; 2Ch 36:16) For thus says the Lord:

Your bruise is incurable

and your wound is severe.

13 (Jer 8:22; 46:11) There is no one to plead your cause

that you may be bound up.

You have no healing medicines.

14 (Job 30:21; Jer 5:6) All your lovers have forgotten you;

they do not seek you;

for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy,

with the chastisement of a cruel one,

because of the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins are numerous.

15 (Jer 30:12; 30:14) Why do you cry because of your affliction?

Your sorrow is incurable.

Because of the multitude of your iniquities, because your sins are numerous,

I have done these things to you.

16 (Jer 10:25; Isa 14:2) Therefore all who devour you will be devoured;

and all your adversaries, every one of them, will go into captivity.

And those who plunder you will become plunder,

and all who prey upon you I will give for prey.

17 (Ex 15:26; Ps 107:20) For I will restore health to you,

and I will heal you of your wounds,

says the Lord,

because they called you an outcast, saying,

"This is Zion whom no man cares for."

18 (Jer 30:3; Ps 102:13) Thus says the Lord:

I will restore the fortunes of Jacob's tents

and have mercy on his dwelling places;

and the city will be built upon her own heap,

and the palace will remain on its rightful place.

19 (Isa 35:10; 51:11) Out of them will proceed thanksgiving

and the voice of those who make merry;

and I will multiply them,

and they will not be few.

I will also glorify them,

and they will not be small.

20 Their children also will be as before,

and their congregation will be established before Me;

and I will punish all who oppress them.

21 (Nu 16:5; Ge 49:10) Their leader shall be one of them,

and their ruler shall proceed from their midst;

and I will cause him to draw near and he will approach Me;

for who is this that dares

to approach Me?

says the Lord.

22 (Jer 24:7; 31:1) You shall be My people,

and I will be your God.

23 (Jer 23:19-20; 25:32) Look, the whirlwind of the Lord

goes forth with fury,

a continuing whirlwind;

it will fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.

24 (Jer 23:20; 4:28) The fierce anger of the Lord shall not return

until He has done it

and until He has performed the intentions of His heart.

In the latter days

you will understand it.

Jeremiah 30

[1] The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

[2] Thus speaketh the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write thee all the words

that I have spoken unto thee in a book.

[3] For, lo, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will bring again the

captivity of my people Israel and Judah, saith the LORD: and I will cause

them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall

possess it.

[4] And these are the words that the LORD spake concerning Israel and

concerning Judah.

[5] For thus saith the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear,

and not of peace.

[6] Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do

I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all

faces are turned into paleness?

[7] Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the

time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

[8] For it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I

will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and

strangers shall no more serve themselves of him:

[9] But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I

will raise up unto them.

[10] Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be

dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from

the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest,

and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

[11] For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full

end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full

end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee

altogether unpunished.

[12] For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is

grievous.

[13] There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou

hast no healing medicines.

[14] All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have

wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel

one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.

[15] Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the

multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done

these things unto thee.

[16] Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine

adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil

thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.

[17] For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy

wounds, saith the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying,

This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.

[18] Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of

Jacob's tents, and have mercy on his dwellingplaces; and the city shall be

builded upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after the manner

thereof.

[19] And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that

make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will

also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

[20] Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall

be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.

[21] And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall

proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he

shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach

unto me? saith the LORD.

[22] And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

[23] Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goeth forth with fury, a continuing

whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.

[24] The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have done it,

and until he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye

shall consider it.

Jeremiah 31

The Exiles Return

1 (Jer 30:22; Ge 17:7-8) At that time, says the Lord, I will be the God

of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people.

2 (Nu 10:33; Dt 1:33) Thus says the Lord:

The people who survived the sword

found grace in the wilderness,

when I went to give Israel rest.

3 (Hos 11:4; Mal 1:2) The Lord has appeared to him from afar, saying:

Indeed, I have loved you with an everlasting love;

therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

4 (Jer 31:13; 33:7) Again I will build you

and you will be built, O virgin of Israel.

You will again be adorned with your tambourines

and shall go forth in the dances of those who make merry.

5 (Am 9:14; Dt 28:30) You will yet plant vines

on the mountains of Samaria;

the planters will plant

and will enjoy them.

6 (Jer 50:4-5) For there will be a day when the watchmen

on the hills of Ephraim will proclaim,

"Arise, and let us go up to Zion,

to the Lord our God."

7 (Ps 14:7; 28:9) For thus says the Lord:

Sing with gladness for Jacob,

and shout among the chief of the nations;

publish, praise, and say,

"O Lord, save Your people,

the remnant of Israel."

8 (Isa 42:16; Jer 23:8) See, I will bring them from the north country,

and gather them from the remote parts of the earth,

and with them the blind and the lame,

the woman with child and her who is in labor with child, together;

a great company will return here.

9 (Jer 3:4; Ex 4:22; Isa 63:13) They will come with weeping,

and with supplications I will lead them.

I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters,

in a straight way in which they shall not stumble.

For I am a Father to Israel,

and Ephraim is My firstborn.

10 (Isa 40:11; 66:19; Eze 34:12) Hear the word of the Lord, O nations,

and declare it in the coastlands far off, and say,

"He who scattered Israel will gather him

and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock."

11 (Isa 44:23; 48:20) For the Lord has redeemed Jacob

and ransomed him from the hand of him who was stronger than he.

12 (Isa 35:10; 58:11; 65:19 )Therefore they will come

and sing in the height of Zion,

and will be joyful over the goodness of the Lord,

for wheat and for wine and for oil

and for the young of the flock and of the herd;

and their souls will be as a watered garden.

And they will not sorrow any more at all.

13 (Ps 30:11; Isa 51:11) Then the virgin shall rejoice in the dance,

both young men and old together;

for I will turn their mourning into joy,

and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

14 (Jer 31:25) I will satiate the soul of the priests with abundance,

and My people shall be satisfied with My goodness,

says the Lord.

Jeremiah 31

[1] At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families

of Israel, and they shall be my people.

[2] Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of the sword found grace

in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

[3] The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee

with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

[4] Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel:

thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the

dances of them that make merry.

[5] Thou shalt yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria: the planters

shall plant, and shall eat them as common things.

[6] For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall

cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto the LORD our God.

[7] For thus saith the LORD; Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among

the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O LORD, save thy

people, the remnant of Israel.

[8] Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from

the coasts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman

with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company

shall return thither.

[9] They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I

will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein

they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my

firstborn.

[10] Hear the word of the LORD, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles

afar off, and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him,

as a shepherd doth his flock.

[11] For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of

him that was stronger than he.

[12] Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall

flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for

oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul

shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

[13] Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old

together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them,

and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

[14] And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people

shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.

Esther 4:7-14

James 4

Friendship With the World

7 Mordecai told him about all that had happened to him

and about the sum of silver that Haman had promised to pay to the king's

treasuries for the destruction of the Jews.

8 Mordecai also gave him a copy of the written decree issued in Susa

concerning their destruction so he could show Esther, tell her about it,

and then charge her to go to the king in order to gain him favor with the king

and to make requests in the presence of the king for her people.

9 Hathak returned and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

10 Again Esther spoke to Hathak and ordered him to reply to Mordecai:

11 (Est 5:1-2; 8:4) "All the king's servants and the people of the king's

provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, wishes to come to the king

at the inner court but has not been summoned, there is one law-to put him

to death-unless for some reason the king should hold out the golden scepter

so that he might live. I, however, have not been summoned to come to the king

for these thirty days."

12 So all the words of Esther were told to Mordecai.

13 Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not think that

in the king's palace you will be more likely to escape

than all the other Jews.

14 For if you remain silent at this time, protection and deliverance

for the Jews will be ordained from some other place, but you

and your father's house shall be destroyed. And who knows if you may have

attained royal position for such a time as this?"

[7] And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum

of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for

the Jews, to destroy them.

[8] Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at

Shushan to destroy them, to shew it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her,

and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication

unto him, and to make request before him for her people.

[9] And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

[10] Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;

[11] All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do

know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into

the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to

death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that

he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these

thirty days.

[12] And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.

[13] Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that

thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.

[14] For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there

enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou

and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art

come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

In a small Illinois town, domestic violence comprises 40 percent of all crimes

in the community. According to a local pastor, this issue is often hidden in

our faith communities because it's uncomfortable to talk about. So instead of

shying away from the problem, local ministers chose to exercise faith and

courageously address the issue by taking classes to recognize the signs of

violence and supporting nonprofit organisations working on the issue.

Acknowledging the power of faith and action, a local minister said, "Our

prayers and compassion, coupled with some tangible support, can make an

important difference.”"

When Esther, Queen of Persia, was hesitant to speak out against a law that

authorised the genocide of her people, she was warned by her uncle that if she

remained silent, she and her family wouldn't escape but would perish

(Esther 4:13-14). Knowing it was time to be bold and take a stand, Mordecai

queried, "Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a

time as this?" (v. 14). Whether we are called to speak out against injustice

or to forgive someone who's caused us distress, the Bible assures us that in

challenging circumstances, God will never leave

or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6). When we look to Him for help in moments

where we feel intimidated, He'll give us "power, love, and self-discipline"

to see our assignment through to the end (2 Timothy 1:7).

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 4 - Giving and Receiving

Luke 6:38

38 "Give, and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down,

shaken together, and running over will men give unto you.

For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you."

38 give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down,

and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.

For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured

to you again.

"Just give the Lord", the voice on the radio declared. "Give, and he will

give back to you, a hundredfold." The preacher went on to explain how

an old woman on social security had sent her last $10 to support his

ministry, and the next day she got an anonymous money order for

a $1000 . "The Lord will be faithful to his Word," the preacher

concluded. "You give, and you'll receive."

The Lord is, of course, faithful to his Word. But many well-meaning Christians

have interpreted Luke 6:38 as a "payment in kind" bargain with God:

if I give God my dollar, he's obliged to return it to me with interest.

This "seed-sowing" fallacy, where $20 supposedly becomes $2000 by

an act of divine, multiplication, has caused much

disappointment and frustration.

The "giving and receiving" principle is a valid one; the Lord does, indeed say

"Give, and it will be given to you," but he does not specify what the "return"

will be. The verse appears in the context of forgiveness, of not judging; the

principle is not investment, in any material sense, but generosity.

As we give, as few are compassionate with others, we take on the

character of the Lord himself. He is generous and giving, and he gives

to us as we give ourselves in love to others.

Application

a) Have I ever "given" to God to others as a bribe, to get something

in return?

b) What is God's concept of giving, as demonstrated

in the gift of Jesus Christ?

c) How can this verse help me to give more selflessly?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

Joshua 1:5

5 (Dt 7:24; 31:6-8) No man will be able to stand against

you all the days of your life.

As I was with Moses, I will be with you.

I will not abandon you. I will not leave you.

5 There shall not any man be able to stand before

thee all the days of thy life:

as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee:

I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

God's Help in Times of Temptation

1 Cor 10:1-13

1 Corinthians 10

Warning Against Idolatry

1 (Ex 14:29; Ps 66:6) I would not want you to be unaware that

all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 (Ex 16:35; Dt 8:3) all ate the same spiritual food;

4 (Ex 17:6; Nu 20:11) and all drank the same spiritual drink,

for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them,

and that Rock was Christ.

5 (Heb 3:17; Jude 1:5) But with many of them God was not well pleased,

and they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 (Nu 11:4; 1Co 10:11) Now these things were our examples to the intent

that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted.

7 (Ex 32:19; 32:4) Neither be idolaters as were some of them.

As it is written,

"The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to revel." (Ex 32:6. )

8 (Nu 25:1-9; 1Co 6:18) Neither let us commit sexual immorality as some

of them committed, when 23000 fell in one day.

9 (Nu 21:5-6; Ex 17:2) Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them

also tempted and were destroyed by serpents.

10 (Ex 12:23; Nu 16:41) Neither murmur, as some of them also murmured

and were destroyed by the destroyer.

11 (Ro 13:11) Now all these things happened to them for examples.

They are written as an admonition to us,

upon whom the end of the ages has come.

12 (Ro 11:20) Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed,

lest he fall.

13 (1Co 1:9; 2Pe 2:9) No temptation has taken you except what is common

to man. God is faithful, and He will not permit you to be tempted above

what you can endure, but will with the temptation also make a way

to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all

our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 and did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that

spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 But with many of them God was not well pleased:

for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust

after evil things, as they also lusted.

7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written,

The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed,

and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted,

and were destroyed of serpents.

10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured,

and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples:

and they are written for our admonition,

upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:

but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted

above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also

make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Remember God's promises when You pray

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Muslim population (est.) 4543

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim

population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist

church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton

also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship

getherings, and outreaches on campus.

Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the

campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.

Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,

and between 300 to 400 university students.

Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,

which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.

a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,

has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow

into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has

been primarily for university students moving into the area.

Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick

- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened

to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened

to sharing God's love in Jesus Christ with them

- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these

areas of concentration

- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,

and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

And

Thank you for praying through the

5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.

Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the

love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.

One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by

light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.

As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and

confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution

to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.

Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father

to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.

I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.

God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through

the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom

and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."

13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
