The Healing of a Boy With an Unclean Spirit

Mt 17:14-20; Lk 9:37-43



14 When He came to His other disciples, He saw a great crowd around them,

and the scribes disputing with them.

15 ­Immediately when all the people saw Him, they were greatly amazed,

and running to Him, greeted Him.

16 He asked the scribes, "What are you debating with them?"

17 (Mk 9:25; Lk 11:14) One in the crowd answered, "Teacher, I brought You

my son, who has a mute spirit.

18 Wherever it takes hold on him, it dashes him to the ground.

And he foams at the mouth and gnashes with his teeth and becomes rigid.

And I told Your disciples so that they would cast it out, but they could not."

19 (Jn 20:27) He answered, "O faithless generation, how long shall I be with

you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me."

20 (Mk 1:26) So they brought the boy to Him. When he saw Him, immediately

the spirit dashed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed,

foaming at the mouth.

21 He asked his father, "How long has it been since it came to him?"

He said, "From childhood.

22 (Mt 9:28) Often it has thrown him into the fire and into the water to kill

him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us."

23 (Mt 17:20; Jn 11:40) Jesus said,

"If you can believe, all things are possible

to him who believes."

24 (Lk 17:5; Eph 2:8) Immediately the father of the child

cried out with tears,

"Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief!"

25 (Mk 9:15) When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked

the foul spirit, saying to it, "You mute and deaf spirit, I command you,

come out of him, and enter him no more."

26 (Mk 9:20) The spirit cried out and convulsed him greatly.

But it came out of him, and he was as dead, so that many said, "He is dead."

27 (Mk 1:31) But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

28 (Mk 7:17) When He had entered the house, His disciples asked Him privately,

"Why could we not cast it out?"

29 He said to them, "This kind cannot come out except by prayer and fasting."



[14] And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them,

and the scribes questioning with them.

[15] And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly

amazed, and running to him saluted him.

[16] And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

[17] And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto

thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

[18] And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and

gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that

they should cast him out; and they could not.

[19] He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I

be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

[20] And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the

spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

[21] And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him?

And he said, Of a child.

[22] And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to

destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help

us.

[23] Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to

him that believeth.

[24] And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears,

Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

[25] When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the

foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come

out of him, and enter no more into him.

[26] And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he

was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

[27] But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

[28] And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately,

Why could not we cast him out?

[29] And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by

prayer and fasting.



Matthew 17:14-21



The Healing of a Boy with a Demon

Mk 9:14-29; Lk 9:37-43



14 When they came to the crowd, a man came to Him

and knelt before Him, saying,

15 (Mt 4:24) "Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic

and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire and often into the water.

16 I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not heal him."

17 (Jn 20:27) Then Jesus answered, "O faithless and perverse generation,

how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you?

Bring him here to Me."

18 (Mt 9:22) Jesus rebuked the demon, and he came out of him.

And the child was healed instantly.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said,

"Why could we not cast him out?"

20 (Lk 17:6; Mt 13:31; 21:21) Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief.

For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed,

you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move.

And nothing will be impossible for you.

21 (Mk 9:29) But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."



[14] And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain

man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

[15] Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for

ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.

[16] And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

[17] Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how

long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to

me.

[18] And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child

was cured from that very hour.

[19] Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast

him out?

[20] And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say

unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto

this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and

nothing shall be impossible unto you.

[21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.



Luke 9:37-43



The Healing of a Boy With an Unclean Spirit

37 The next day, when they came down from the mountain,

a great crowd met Him.

38 (Lk 7:12) Suddenly a man cried out from the crowd, saying,

"Teacher, I beg You, look upon my son, for he is my only child.

39 A spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him until

he foams at the mouth, and bruises him, and scarcely leaves him.

40 (Lk 9:1) I begged Your disciples to cast it out, but they could not."

41 (Dt 32:5; Jn 14:9) Jesus said, "O faithless and perverse generation,

how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here."

42 (Lk 7:15) While he was coming, the demon threw him down

and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit,

and healed the child, and returned him to his father.



[37] And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down

from the hill, much people met him.

[38] And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech

thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.

[39] And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it

teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.

[40] And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.

[41] And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long

shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.

[42] And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And

Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him

again to his father.



Mark 9:30-32



Jesus Again Foretells His Death and Resurrection

Mt 17:22-23; Lk 9:43b-45



30 They departed from there and passed through Galilee,

and He did not want anyone to know it.

31 (Mt 16:21; Mk 8:31) For He was teaching His disciples, saying,

"The Son of Man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill

Him. After He is killed, He will rise the third day."

32 (Lk 2:50; 18:34) But they did not understand the teaching

and were afraid to ask Him.



[30] And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not

that any man should know it.

[31] For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is

delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he

is killed, he shall rise the third day.

[32] But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

Matthew 17:22-23



Jesus Again Foretells His Death and Resurrection

Mk 9:30-32; Lk 9:43b-45



22 (Mt 16:21; 20:17-18) While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said

to them, "The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,

23 (Mt 16:21; Zec 13:7) and they will kill Him, and He will be raised

on the third day." And they were extremely sorrowful.



[22] And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man

shall be betrayed into the hands of men:

[23] And they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again.

And they were exceeding sorry.



Luke 9:43-45



43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God.



Jesus Foretells His Death a Second Time

Mt 17:22-23; Mk 9:30-32



But while everyone marveled at all the things Jesus did,

He said to His disciples,

44 (Lk 9:22) "Let these words sink down into your ears,

for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men."

45 (Mk 9:32; Lk 18:34) But they did not understand this statement,

and it was hidden from them, so that they did not perceive it.

And they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.



[43] And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they

wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his

disciples,

[44] Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man

shall be

delivered into the hands of men.

[45] But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that

they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.



Matthew 17:24-27



Payment of the Temple Tax



24 (Ex 30:13; 38:26; Mk 9:33) When they came to Capernaum, those who collected

tax money came to Peter and said,

"Does your Teacher not pay the tax[Dt 25:5.]?"

25 Mt 22:17; 22:19He said, "Yes."

And when he came home, Jesus stopped him, saying, "What do you think, Simon?

From whom do the kings of the earth take custom or taxes?

From their own sons or from strangers?"

26 Peter said to Him, "From strangers."

Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free.

27 (1Co 8:13)However, lest we offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook,

and take the first fish that comes up. And when you open its mouth,

you will find a coin. Take it and give it to them for you and Me."



[24] And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money

came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?

[25] He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented

him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth

take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

[26] Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the

children free.

[27] Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and

cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast

opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto

them for me and thee.



Mark 9:33-37



Who Is the Greatest?

Mt 18:1-5; Lk 9:46-48



33 (Mt 17:24) He came to Capernaum. And being in the house, He asked them,

"What was it that you disputed among yourselves on the way?"

34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had disputed among themselves

who was the greatest.

35 (Lk 22:26) He sat down and called the twelve. And He said to them,

"If anyone desires to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all."

36 (Mk 10:16) He took a child and set him in their midst.

And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them,

37 (Lk 10:16) "Whoever receives one of these children in My name receives Me.

And whoever receives Me receives not Me, but Him who sent Me."



33] And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What

was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

[34] But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among

themselves, who should be the greatest.

[35] And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man

desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

[36] And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had

taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

[37] Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me:

and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.



Matthew 18:1-6



The Greatest in the Kingdom

Mk 9:33-37; Lk 9:46-48



1 (Mk 9:33-37; Lk 9:46-48) At that time the disciples came to ­Jes­us,

saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

2 Jesus called a little child to Him and set him in their midst,

3 (1Pe 2:2; 1Co 14:20) and said, "Truly I say to you, unless you are

converted and become like little children, you will not enter

the kingdom of heaven.

4 (Mt 23:11-12) Therefore whoever humbles himself like this little child

is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 (Mt 25:40) And whoever receives one such

little child in My name receives Me.



Temptations to Sin

Mk 9:42-48; Lk 17:1-2



6 (Mk 9:42) "But whoever misleads one of these little ones who believe in Me,

it would be better for him to have a millstone hung about his neck

and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.



[1] At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the

greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

[2] And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of

them,

[3] And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as

little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

[4] Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same

is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

[5] And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

[6] But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it

were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he

were drowned in the depth of the sea.



Luke 9:46-48





Who Is the Greatest?

Mt 18:1-5; Mk 9:33-37



46 (Mt 18:1-5; Mk 9:33-37) A dispute arose among them as to which

of them was the greatest.

47 Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart,

took a child and put him by Him,

48 (Lk 10:16; Jn 13:20) and said to them, "Whoever receives this child

in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me.

For he who is least among you all will be great."



[46] Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be

greatest.

[47] And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and

set him by him,

[48] And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name

receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me:

for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.



Mark 9:38-41



He Who Is Not Against Us Is for Us

Lk 9:49-50



38 (Lk 9:49-50) John answered Him, "Teacher, we saw one who does not follow

us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he was not

following us."

39 But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who does a miracle

in My name can quickly speak evil of Me.

40 (Mt 12:30; Lk 11:23) For he who is not against us is for us.

41 (Mt 10:42) Truly I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water

to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, will not lose his reward.



[38] And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out

devils in

thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth

not us.

[39] But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a

miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

[40] For he that is not against us is on our part.

[41] For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name,

because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his

reward.



Luke 9:49-50



He Who Is Not Against You Is for You

Mk 9:38-40



49 (Mk 9:38-40) John answered, "Master, we saw a man casting out demons

in Your name and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us."

50 (Mt 12:30; Lk 11:23) Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for he who is not

against you is for you."



[49] And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in

thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us.

[50] And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us

is for us.



Mark 9:42-50



Temptations to Sin

Mt 18:6-9; Lk 17:1-2



42 (Mt 18:6) "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me

to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck

and he were thrown into the sea.

43 (Mt 5:29-30; 25:41) If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.

It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell,

into the fire that shall never be quenched,

44 where 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' [Isa 66:24.]

45 (Mk 9:43; Mt 18:8) And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off.

It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown

into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched,

46 where 'their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' [Isa 66:24.]

47 (Mt 18:9; 5:22) And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.

It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than

with two eyes to be thrown into the fire of hell,

48 (Isa 66:24; Mt 25:41) where 'their worm does not die,

and the fire is not quenched.' [Isa 66:24.]

49 (Lev 2:13) Everyone will be salted with fire,

and every sacrifice will be salted with salt.

50 (Ro 12:18; Mt 5:13; 2Co 13:11) "Salt is good. But if the salt loses

its saltiness, how will you season it?

Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another."



[42] And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me,

[43] And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter

into hell fire:

[48] Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

[49] For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be

salted with salt.

[50] Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye

season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.





Matthew 18:7-35



7 (Lk 17:1; 1Co 11:19) Woe to the world because of temptations! For it must

be that temptations come, but woe to that man by whom the ­temptation comes!

8 (Mt 5:29-30; 25:41) Therefore if your hand or your foot causes you to sin,

cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life lame

or maimed than having two hands or two feet to be thrown into eternal fire.

9 (Mt 5:22; 5:29) And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out

and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than

having two eyes to be thrown into the fire of hell.



The Parable of the Lost Sheep

Lk 15:5-7



10 (Lk 1:19; Heb 1:14) "See that you do not despise one of these little ones.

For I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face

of My Father who is in heaven.

11 (Lk 19:10) For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.

12 (Lk 15:4-7; Mt 21:28) "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep

and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills

and go in search for the one which went astray?

13 And if he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep

than over the ninety-nine which never went astray.

14 (Jn 17:12) So it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one

of these little ones should perish.



The Brother Who Sins

Lk 17:3



15 (Lev 19:17; 1Co 9:19-21) "Now if your brother sins against you,

go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you,

you have gained your brother.

16 (Dt 19:15; Jn 8:17) But if he does not listen, then take with you one

or two others, that by the testimony of two or three witnesses every word

may be established. (Ps 8:2.)

17 (2Th 3:6; Mt 5:46) If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church.

But if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as

a Gentile and a tax collector.

18 (Mt 16:19; Jn 20:23) "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will

be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

19 (Mt 7:7; Ac 12:5) "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth

about anything they ask, it will be done for them

by My Father who is in heaven.

20 (Mt 28:20; Jn 20:19) For where two or three are assembled in My name,

there I am in their midst."



The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant



21 (Mt 18:15; Lk 17:3-4) Then Peter came to Him and said,

"Lord, how often shall I forgive my brother who sins against me?

Up to seven times?"

22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you up to seven times,

but up to seventy times seven.

23 (Mt 13:24) "Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king

who wanted to settle accounts with his servants.

24 When he began to settle the accounts, one was brought to him who owed

him ten thousand talents.(Several million pounds.)

25 (Lev 25:39; 2Ki 4:1) But since he was not able to pay, his master ordered

that he be sold with his wife, their children, and all that he had,

and payment to be made.

26 (Mt 8:2) "So the servant fell on his knees, pleading with him, saying,

'Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.'

27 Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion,

released him, and forgave him the debt.

28 (Mt 20:2) "But that same servant went out and found one of his fellow

servants who owed him a hundred denarii.(A few pounds.)

He laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying,

'Pay me what you owe.'

29 "So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and entreated him,

saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.'

30 "But he would not and went and threw him in prison

until he should pay the debt.

31 So when his fellow servants saw what took place, they were very sorry

and went and told their master all that had taken place.

32 "Then his master, after he had summoned him, said to him,

'O you wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt

because you pleaded with me.

33 (Col 3:13) Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant,

even as I had pity on you?'

34 (Mt 5:25-26) His master was angry and delivered him to the jailers

until he should pay all his debt.

35 (Pr 21:13; Mt 6:14-15) "So also My heavenly Father will do to each of you,

if from your heart you do not forgive your brother for his trespasses."



[7] Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that

offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

[8] Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast

them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed,

rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

[9] And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is

better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes

to be cast into hell fire.

[10] Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto

you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father

which is in heaven.

[11] For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains,

and seeketh that which is gone astray?

of these little ones should perish.

[15] Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him

his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast

gained thy brother.

[16] But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that

in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

[17] And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if

he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a

publican.

[18] Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound

in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

[19] Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as

touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my

Father which is in heaven.

[20] For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in

the midst of them.

[21] Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin

[22] Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but,

Until seventy times seven.

[23] Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which

would take account of his servants.

[24] And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed

him ten thousand talents.

[25] But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold,

and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

[26] The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have

patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

[27] Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed

him, and forgave him the debt.

Hebrews 6:16-20



16 (Ex 22:11) For men indeed swear by a greater authority than themselves,

and for them an oath of confirmation ends all dispute.

17 (Heb 11:9; Pr 19:21) So God, wanting to show more abundantly

the immutability of His counsel to the heirs of promise, confirmed it

by an oath.

18 (Titus 1:2; Nu 23:19; Heb 12:1-2) So that by two immutable things,

in which it was impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge

might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.

19 (Heb 9:7; Lev 16:2) We have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor

of the soul, which enters the Inner Place behind the veil.

20 (Heb 4:14; 5:6; 1:3) This is where Jesus has entered for us as

a forerunner, since He has become the everlasting High Priest in

the order of Melchizedek.

I held up a picture of people sleeping under pieces of cardboard in a dim

alley. "What do they need?" I asked my sixth grade Sunday school class.

"Food," someone said. "Money," said another. "A safe place," a boy said

thoughtfully. Then one girl spoke up: "Hope."



"Hope is expecting good things to happen," she explained. I found it

interesting that she talked about "expecting" good things when, due to

challenges, it can be easy not to expect good things in life. The Bible

nevertheless speaks of hope in a way that agrees with my student. If "faith

is confidence in what we hope for"” (Hebrews 11:1), we who have faith

in Jesus can expect good things to happen.



What is this ultimate good that believers in Christ can hope for with

confidence?-"the promise of entering his rest" (4:1). For believers, God's

rest includes His peace, confidence of salvation, reliance on His strength,

and assurance of a future heavenly home. The guarantee of God and the

salvation Jesus offers is why hope can be our anchor, holding us fast in

times of need (6:18-20). The world needs hope, indeed: God's true and

certain assurance that throughout good and bad times, He'll have the final

say and won't fail us. When we trust in Him, we know that He'll make all

things right for us in His time.

Exodus 15:2



2 The Lord is my strength and song,

and He has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise Him;

my father's God, and I will exalt Him.

My father's God, and I will exalt him.



The world is full of music that communicates human emotion:

love, joy, sadness, separation.

A love song makes us misty-eyed; a song of protest arouses anger; a song

describing loss stimulates feelings of hurt and abandonment.

Music is a powerful force to sway the human spirit.

Exodus 15:2 indicates that God should be the source of the songs in our hearts.

Human emotions vacillate; human relationships disappoint,

but God is our "strength" and our "song".

To exalt the Lord includes many different type of "songs".

"I can't carry a tune in a bucket," one woman complained.

"How can I sing to the Lord anything that will be pleasing to him?"

But the Lord does not delight in the professionalism of our songs,

but in the motivation of our hearts. We can "sing to the Lord"

when we enjoy a Bach organ piece played for his glory.

We can exalt him in the words of Scripture - either remembered or sung.

We can worship him by enjoying the songs of others.

The key to making the Lord our song is exaltation. When our thoughts

lift him up in praise, we are singing a song of exaltation to the Lord.

When God is exalted in our songs, in our hearts, and in our thoughts,

that focus gives strength to our lives. We can face the difficulties

that are an inevitable part of experience,

because God is our "strength and our song".

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.

Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims

cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.



More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic

month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at

the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established

in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.

As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.



The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important

for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were

established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to

monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as

shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,

and from the River to the ends of the earth."

Let us intercede together for:



- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading

outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.

- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community

in contextual ways to share the Gospel

- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,

giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching

out to Muslims locally.

- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's

Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness

and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father

through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.



Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."



Ideas for prayer



- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -



Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
