1) Lamentations 3:37-66, 4, 5:1-22
J37 (Ps 33:9-11) Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass,
unless the Lord has commanded it?
38 (Isa 45:7; Job 2:10) Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
that good and bad proceed?
39 (Mic 7:9; Pr 19:3) Why should a living man complain,
a man for the punishment of his sins?

[44] Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass

[45] Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the
people.
[46] All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.
[47] Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.
[48] Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the
daughter of my people.
[49] Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,
[50] Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.
[51] Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.
[52] Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.
[53] They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.
[54] Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.
[55] I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.
[56] Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
[57] Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst,
Fear not.
[58] O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my
life.
[59] O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.
[60] Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.
[61] Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations
against me;
[62] The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me
all the day.
[63] Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.
[64] Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their
hands.
[65] Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.
[66] Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.
Lamentations 4
The Punishment of Zion
1 (La 2:19; Eze 7:19-22) How the gold has become dim!
How the most fine gold has changed!
The stones of the sanctuary lie scattered
at the head of every street.
2 (Jer 19:11; Isa 30:14) The precious sons of Zion,
comparable to fine gold,
how they are esteemed as earthen pots,
the work of a potter's hands!
3 (Isa 49:15; Eze 5:10) Even the jackals offer the breast;
they nurse their young,
yet the daughter of my people has become cruel,
like ostriches in the wilderness.
4 (Ps 22:15; La 2:11-12) The tongue of the infant cleaves
to the roof of his mouth for thirst;
the children beg for bread,
but no one divides it for them.
5 (Am 6:3-7; 2Sa 1:24) Those who once ate delicacies
are desolate in the streets;
those who were brought up in scarlet
embrace ash heaps.
6 (Ge 19:25; Lk 10:12) For the iniquity of the daughter of my people
is greater than the sin of Sodom,
which was overthrown in a moment,
and no hands were wrung for her.
7 (Ps 51:7) Her princes were purer than snow,
whiter than milk;
their bodies were more ruddy than rubies,
their appearance like sapphire.
8 (Job 30:30; Ps 102:3-5) Their form is blacker than coal;
they are not recognized in the streets;
their skin cleaves to their bones,
it has become as dry as wood.
9 (Lev 26:39; Eze 24:23) Those killed by the sword
are better off than those who die of hunger,
for they pine away,
stricken for want of the fruits of the field.
10 (La 2:20; Isa 49:15) The hands of compassionate women
have boiled their own children;
they became their food in the destruction
of the daughter of my people.
11 (Jer 7:20; Eze 22:31) The Lord has fulfilled His fury,
He has poured out His fierce anger.
He kindled a fire in Zion,
and it has devoured its foundations.
12 The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world,
would not have believed
that the adversary and the enemy could enter
the gates of Jerusalem.
13 (Jer 5:31; 6:13) This was for the sins of her prophets
and the iniquities of her priests,
who poured out in her midst the blood of the righteous.
14 (Jer 2:34; Nu 19:16) They wandered,
blind, in the streets;
they have defiled themselves with blood,
so that no one could touch their garments.
15 They cried out to them, "Depart! Unclean!
Depart, depart, do not touch us!"
Therefore they fled and wandered;
men among the nations said,
"They shall live with us no longer."
16 (Isa 9:14-16; La 5:12) The presence of the Lord scattered them;
He will regard them no more;
they do not respect the priests,
nor show favor to the elders.
17 (Eze 29:16; Isa 20:5) Our eyes failed us,
watching vainly for help;
in our watchtowers we watched
for a nation that could not save us.

so that we could not walk in our streets.
Our end drew near; our days were numbered,
for our end had come.

than the eagles of the skies.
They pursued us on the mountains;
they lay in wait for us in the wilderness.

was captured in their traps,

we shall live among the nations."
21 (Job 1:1; Ps 137:7) Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom,

The cup shall also pass to you;
you shall become drunk and strip yourself bare.
22 (Isa 40:2; Ps 137:7) The punishment of your iniquity,
O daughter of Zion, is accomplished;
He shall exile you no longer.
He shall punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom;
He will expose your sins!

[22] The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion;
he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine
iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.
Lamentations 5
A Prayer for Restoration
1 (Ps 44:13-16; La 3:61) Remember, O Lord, what has come upon us;
look, and see our reproach!
2 (Zep 1:13; Isa 1:7) Our inheritance has been turned over to strangers,
our homes to foreigners.
3 (Jer 18:21; Ex 22:24) We have become orphans and fatherless;
our mothers are like widows.
4 (Isa 3:1) We must pay for the water we drink; our wood is sold to us.
5 (Ne 9:36-37) Our pursuers are at our necks; we labor and have no rest.
6 (Hos 9:3; 12:1) We have given our hand to Egypt and to Assyria,
to be satisfied with bread.
7 (Jer 16:12; 31:29) Our fathers sinned and are no more,
but we bear their iniquities.
8 (Ne 5:15; Zec 11:6) Slaves rule over us;
there is no one to deliver us from their hand.
9 (Jer 40:9-12) We get our bread at the peril of our lives,
because of the sword in the wilderness.
10 (La 4:8; Job 30:30) Our skin is hot as an oven,
because of the terrible famine.
11 (Zec 14:2; Isa 13:16) They ravished the women in Zion,
the virgins in the cities of Judah.
12 (La 4:16; Isa 47:6) Princes were hung up by their hands,
the faces of elders were not honored.
13 (Jdg 16:21) Young men ground at the millstones;
boys staggered under loads of wood.
14 (Jer 7:34) The elders have left the city gate,
the young men stopped their music.
15 (Am 8:10) The joy of our hearts has ceased;
our dancing has turned into mourning.
16 (Ps 89:39; Jer 13:18) The crown has fallen from our head;
woe to us, for we have sinned!
17 (Isa 1:5; La 2:11) For this our heart is faint;
for these things our eyes grow dim;
18 (Mic 3:12) because of Mount Zion, which is desolate,
with foxes walking upon it.

Your throne endures from generation to generation.

2) Our Daily Bread for 24 August 2023 Titled Openhearted Generosity
2 Timothy 1:6-14
6 (1Ti 4:14; 1Th 5:19) Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God,
which is in you by the laying on of my hands.
7 (Ro 8:15; Ac 1:8) For God has not given us the spirit of fear,
but of power, and love, and self-control.
8 (Mk 8:38; Eph 3:1) So do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord,
nor of me, His prisoner. But share in the sufferings of the gospel
by the power of God,
9 (Ro 16:25; Titus 1:2) who has saved us and called us with a holy calling,
not by our works, but by His own purpose and grace, which was given us
in Christ Jesus before the world began,
10 (Ro 2:7; 16:26) but is now revealed by the appearing of our Saviour,

which dwelleth in us.
No one ever died saying, "I'm so glad for the self-centered, self-serving,
and self-protective life I lived," author Parker Palmer said in a
commencement address, urging graduates to "offer [themselves] to the
world . . . with openhearted generosity."
But, Parker continued, living this way would also mean learning "how little
you know and how easy it is to fail." Offering themselves in service to the
world would require cultivating a "beginner's mind" to "walk straight into
your not-knowing, and take the risk of failing and failing,
again and again—then getting up to learn again and again."
It's only when our lives are built on a foundation of grace that we can find
the courage to choose such a life of fearless "openhearted generosity." As
Paul explained to his protégé Timothy, we can confidently "fan into flame" (2
Timothy 1:6) and live out of God's gifting when we remember that it's God's
grace that saves and calls us to a life of purpose (v. 9). It's His power
that gives us the courage to resist the temptation to live timidly in
exchange for the Spirit's "power, love and self-discipline" (v. 7).
And it's His grace that picks us up when we fall, so that we can continue
a lifelong journey of grounding our lives in His love (vv. 13-14).

Dear God, thank You that I don't have to live
timidly, fearfully guarding myself from failure or hurt.
Help me to lean into the courage You provide.

Isaiah 43:1

I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob,
and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not:
for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.
Eric, age 4, somehow lost his mother in a large and busy department store.
Found sobbing under a coat rack, the boy tried to tell the security guard
where he was when he got separated from his mother. Finally the guard said,
"what's your name, Son? Who do you belong to?"
The child brightened a bit, gave the guard his name, and within minutes
the frantic mother was reunited with her lost son.
One of the first questions we are asked, both as children and adults, is
"What is your name?" - that is, "Who are you? Who do you belong to?"
Children bear the name of their parents, and most women,
except for professional reasons,
take the name of their husbands when they marry.
Our names are our primary method of identification;
they connect us with our heritage and those we love.
In Isaiah 43:1, God declares that we belong to him.
The Lord who created us and formed us says,
"I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine." God's
right of ownership in our lives extends beyond the bond of family and friends,
of parent, child, or spouse. We belong first to him;
we are called by him into oneness with him.
The Scripture is filled with images of the Lord's care for us;
when we are lost, he does
not wait for us to find him,
but takes the initiative, like a loving parent
to seek us out. That declaration of belonging can give us
a strong sense of security in our lives. God loves us;
he will never let us go.

church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton
also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship
getherings, and outreaches on campus.
Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the
campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.
Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,
and between 300 to 400 university students.
Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,
which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.
a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,
has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow
into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has
been primarily for university students moving into the area.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

[14] That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost
which dwelleth in us.
No one ever died saying, "I'm so glad for the self-centered, self-serving,
and self-protective life I lived," author Parker Palmer said in a
commencement address, urging graduates to "offer [themselves] to the
world . . . with openhearted generosity."
But, Parker continued, living this way would also mean learning "how little
you know and how easy it is to fail." Offering themselves in service to the
world would require cultivating a "beginner's mind" to "walk straight into
your not-knowing, and take the risk of failing and failing,
again and again—then getting up to learn again and again."
It's only when our lives are built on a foundation of grace that we can find
the courage to choose such a life of fearless "openhearted generosity." As
Paul explained to his protégé Timothy, we can confidently "fan into flame" (2
Timothy 1:6) and live out of God's gifting when we remember that it's God's
grace that saves and calls us to a life of purpose (v. 9). It's His power
that gives us the courage to resist the temptation to live timidly in
exchange for the Spirit's "power, love and self-discipline" (v. 7).
And it's His grace that picks us up when we fall, so that we can continue
a lifelong journey of grounding our lives in His love (vv. 13-14).

Isaiah 43:1

Eric, age 4, somehow lost his mother in a large and busy department store.
Found sobbing under a coat rack, the boy tried to tell the security guard
where he was when he got separated from his mother. Finally the guard said,
"what's your name, Son? Who do you belong to?"
The child brightened a bit, gave the guard his name, and within minutes
the frantic mother was reunited with her lost son.
One of the first questions we are asked, both as children and adults, is
"What is your name?" - that is, "Who are you? Who do you belong to?"
Children bear the name of their parents, and most women,
except for professional reasons,
take the name of their husbands when they marry.
Our names are our primary method of identification;
they connect us with our heritage and those we love.
In Isaiah 43:1, God declares that we belong to him.
The Lord who created us and formed us says,
"I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine." God's
right of ownership in our lives extends beyond the bond of family and friends,
of parent, child, or spouse. We belong first to him;
we are called by him into oneness with him.
The Scripture is filled with images of the Lord's care for us;
when we are lost, he does
not wait for us to find him,
but takes the initiative, like a loving parent
to seek us out. That declaration of belonging can give us
a strong sense of security in our lives. God loves us;
he will never let us go.

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim
population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist
church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton
also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship
getherings, and outreaches on campus.
Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the
campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.
Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,
and between 300 to 400 university students.
Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,
which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.
a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,
has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow
into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has
been primarily for university students moving into the area.
Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick
- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened
to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened
to sharing God's love in Jesus Christ with them
- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these
areas of concentration
- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,
and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
