PSALMS 65
For the Music Director. A Psalm of David. A Song.
1 Praise awaits You, O God, in Zion;
and to You a vow will be fulfilled.
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) O You who hears prayer,
to You all flesh will come.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Iniquities are stronger than me;
as for our transgressions, You atone for them.
4 ( Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) Blessed is the man You choose and allow to draw near;
he will dwell in Your courts.
We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,
even of Your holy temple.
5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) In righteousness You will answer us gloriously,
O God of our salvation,
You, who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth,
and of those who are afar off on the sea;
6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) who established the mountains by His strength,
being clothed with might;

the noise of their waves,
and the tumult of peoples.

Psalm 65
[1] Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be
performed.
[2] O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.
[3] Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt
purge them away.
[4] Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto
thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the
goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.
[5] By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our
salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them
that are afar off upon the sea:
[6] Which by his strength setteth fast the mountains; being girded with
power:
[7] Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the
tumult of the people.
[8] They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at thy tokens:
thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.
15 I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals,
with the incense of rams;
I will offer bulls with goats. Selah
16 Come and hear, all you who fear God,
and I will declare what He has done for my soul.
17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
and He was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart,
the Lord will not hear me;
19 but certainly God has heard me;
He has attended to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God,
who has not turned away my prayer,
nor His mercy from me.
Psalm 66
[1] Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
[2] Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
[3] Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness
of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
[4] All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall

[5] Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the
children of men.
[6] He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot:

Ps 40:13-17

1 Make haste, O God, to deliver me!
Make haste to help me, O Lord.
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) May those who seek my life
be ashamed and confused;
may those who desire my harm
be driven back and humiliated.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) May they turn back as a consequence of their shame
who say "Aha! Aha!"
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) May all those who seek You
rejoice and be glad in You;
and may those who love Your salvation continually say,
"God be magnified!"
5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) But I am poor and needy;
make haste to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;

[1] Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

Genesis 31:19-21; 32:22-30
19 When Laban went to shear his sheep, Rachel stole the household idols
that were her father's. 20 Jacob also deceived Laban the Syrian by not
telling him that he was fleeing. 21 So Jacob fled with all that he had,
and he rose up and passed over the river and headed toward
the mountains of Gilead.
[19] And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images
that were her father's.
[20] And Jacob stole away unawares to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him
not that he fled.
[21] So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the
river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.
Jacob Wrestles With God
22 The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants,
and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of the Jabbok. 23 He took them
and sent them across the stream along with all that he had.
24 Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him there until daybreak.
25 When the man saw that He did not prevail against Jacob,
He touched the socket of his thigh, so the socket of Jacob's thigh
was dislocated, as he wrestled with Him. 26 Then He said,
"Let Me go, for the day breaks."
But Jacob said, "I will not let You go, unless You bless me."
27 So He said to him, "What is your name?"
And he said, "Jacob."
28 Then the man said, "Your name will no more be called Jacob, but Israel.
For you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed."
29 Then Jacob asked Him, "Tell me, I pray You, Your name."
But He said, "Why do you ask Me My name?" Then He blessed him there.
30 Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying,
"I have seen God face to face, and my life has been preserved."
[22] And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two
womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.
[23] And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he
had.
[24] And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the

wrestled with him.

let thee go, except thou bless me.

[28] And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as
a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
[29] And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he
said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him
there.
[30] And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face
to face, and my life is preserved.
A carved wooden figure-a household god-had been stolen from a woman named
Ekuwa, so she reported it to the authorities. Believing they had found the
idol, law enforcement officials invited her to identify it. "Is this your
god?" they asked. She said sadly, "No, my god is much larger and more
beautiful than that."
People have long tried to give shape to their concept of deity, hoping for a
handmade god to protect them. Perhaps that's why Jacob's wife Rachel "stole
her father's household gods" as they fled from Laban (Genesis 31:19). But God
had His hand on Jacob, despite the idols hidden in his camp (v. 34).
Later, on that same journey, Jacob wrestled all night with "a man" (32:24).
He must have understood this opponent was no mere human, because at daybreak
Jacob insisted, "I will not let you go unless you bless me" (v. 26). The man
renamed him Israel ("God fights") and then blessed him (vv. 28-29). Jacob
called the spot Peniel ("face of God"), "because I saw God face to face,
and yet my life was spared" (v. 30).
This God-the one true God-is infinitely larger and more beautiful than
anything Ekuwa could have ever imagined. He can't be carved, stolen, or
hidden. Yet, as Jacob learned that night, we can approach Him! Jesus taught
His disciples to call this God "our Father in heaven" (Matthew 6:9).
How would you describe God? How might your ideas of Him be too limited?
Heavenly Father, forgive me for seeing You
as smaller than You really are. Help me embrace
the reality of who You truly are.

Luke 17:3 - 4
3 (Lev 19:17; Mt 18:21)"Take heed to yourselves."
"If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. And if he repents,
forgive him.
4 (Mt 18:21-22) If he sins against you seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turns to you, saying,
'I repent,' you must forgive him."
3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him;
and if he repent, forgive him.
4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent;
thou shalt forgive him.
The context of these verses give us an interesting perspective of Jesus'
disciples. In a corollary passage in Matthew 18, the disciples (through
Peter, the designated mouthpiece) ask Jesus,
21 (Mt 18:15; Lk 17:3-4) Then Peter came to Him and said,
"Lord, how often shall I forgive my brother who sins against me?
Up to seven times?" (Matthew 18:21)
The disciples wanted a "formula" for forgiveness: they wanted to be able to
develop a checklist. Once, twice, maybe three times a brother could be
forgiven, but after that, you could write him off. After all, if
he keeps on offending over and over again, he doesn't deserve to be forgiven!
But Jesus says, " Rebuke him - let him know his fault; if he repents,
forgive him - even seven times in the same day!"
And the disciplines' response is predictable: "Lord, increase our faith!" They
were more comfortable with their own formula for forgiveness than with the
outrageous demands of the love that Christ imposed upon them.
We are so like the disciples. We want to draw a line and say. "This far
- no more. I'll forgive you once, but don't do it again. Now that you're
forgiven, you'd better shape up!". Yet God's love doesn't recognise "again".
He forgives, and no matter how often we come to him in repentance
for repeated offenses, his arms of forgiveness are open to us.
That is the way God wants us to forgive. He wants us to lay aside our
checklists, put away our suspicions, abandon our scoreboards, and forgive.
Seven times, or seventy times seven, as often as we have sinned against God
and been forgiven, we are to forgive.
Application
a) Have I ever kept a "scorecard" of performance on someone I
have forgiven ? Why?
b) Why do I need "increased faith" to be able to forgive as
Jesus calls me to?

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

A carved wooden figure-a household god-had been stolen from a woman named
Ekuwa, so she reported it to the authorities. Believing they had found the
idol, law enforcement officials invited her to identify it. "Is this your
god?" they asked. She said sadly, "No, my god is much larger and more
beautiful than that."
People have long tried to give shape to their concept of deity, hoping for a
handmade god to protect them. Perhaps that's why Jacob's wife Rachel "stole
her father's household gods" as they fled from Laban (Genesis 31:19). But God
had His hand on Jacob, despite the idols hidden in his camp (v. 34).
Later, on that same journey, Jacob wrestled all night with "a man" (32:24).
He must have understood this opponent was no mere human, because at daybreak
Jacob insisted, "I will not let you go unless you bless me" (v. 26). The man
renamed him Israel ("God fights") and then blessed him (vv. 28-29). Jacob
called the spot Peniel ("face of God"), "because I saw God face to face,
and yet my life was spared" (v. 30).
This God-the one true God-is infinitely larger and more beautiful than
anything Ekuwa could have ever imagined. He can't be carved, stolen, or
hidden. Yet, as Jacob learned that night, we can approach Him! Jesus taught
His disciples to call this God "our Father in heaven" (Matthew 6:9).
How would you describe God? How might your ideas of Him be too limited?
Heavenly Father, forgive me for seeing You
as smaller than You really are. Help me embrace
the reality of who You truly are.

Luke 17:3 - 4
3 (Lev 19:17; Mt 18:21)"Take heed to yourselves."
"If your brother sins against you, rebuke him. And if he repents,
forgive him.
4 (Mt 18:21-22) If he sins against you seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turns to you, saying,
'I repent,' you must forgive him."
3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him;
and if he repent, forgive him.
4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day,
and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent;
thou shalt forgive him.
The context of these verses give us an interesting perspective of Jesus'
disciples. In a corollary passage in Matthew 18, the disciples (through
Peter, the designated mouthpiece) ask Jesus,
21 (Mt 18:15; Lk 17:3-4) Then Peter came to Him and said,
"Lord, how often shall I forgive my brother who sins against me?
Up to seven times?" (Matthew 18:21)
The disciples wanted a "formula" for forgiveness: they wanted to be able to
develop a checklist. Once, twice, maybe three times a brother could be
forgiven, but after that, you could write him off. After all, if
he keeps on offending over and over again, he doesn't deserve to be forgiven!
But Jesus says, " Rebuke him - let him know his fault; if he repents,
forgive him - even seven times in the same day!"
And the disciplines' response is predictable: "Lord, increase our faith!" They
were more comfortable with their own formula for forgiveness than with the
outrageous demands of the love that Christ imposed upon them.
We are so like the disciples. We want to draw a line and say. "This far
- no more. I'll forgive you once, but don't do it again. Now that you're
forgiven, you'd better shape up!". Yet God's love doesn't recognise "again".
He forgives, and no matter how often we come to him in repentance
for repeated offenses, his arms of forgiveness are open to us.
That is the way God wants us to forgive. He wants us to lay aside our
checklists, put away our suspicions, abandon our scoreboards, and forgive.
Seven times, or seventy times seven, as often as we have sinned against God
and been forgiven, we are to forgive.
Application
a) Have I ever kept a "scorecard" of performance on someone I
have forgiven ? Why?
b) Why do I need "increased faith" to be able to forgive as
Jesus calls me to?

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:
- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
