Day 306 - 2 November 2021 reflections
Day 306, 2 November 2021
1)
Matthew 22; Mark 12
Matthew 22
The Parable of the Wedding Banquet
Lk 14:15-24
1 Jesus spoke to them again by parables, saying,
2 (Mt 13:24) "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king
who arranged a marriage for his son,
3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding,
but they would not come.
4 (Mt 21:36) "Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are
invited: See, I have prepared my supper. My oxen and fattened calves are
killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.'
5 (Heb 2:3) "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm,
another to his business;
6 the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.
7 (Lk 19:27) When the king heard about it, he was angry. He sent in his army
and destroyed those murderers and burned up their city.
8 (Lk 20:35; Ac 13:46) "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready,
but those who were invited were not worthy.
9 Go therefore to the streets, and invite to the wedding banquet
as many as you find.'
10 (Mt 13:47-48) So those servants went out into the streets and gathered
together as many as they found, both bad and good.
So the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 (2Ki 10:22; Zec 3:3-4)"But when the king came in to see the guests,
he saw a man who was not wearing wedding garments.
12 (Mt 20:13; 26:50) He said to him, 'Friend, how did you get in here
without wedding garments?' And he was speechless.
13 (Mt 8:12; 25:30; 13:42) "Then the king told the attendants, 'Bind him hand
and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, where there will
be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14 (Rev 17:14) "For many are called, but few are chosen."
The Question of Paying Taxes
Mk 12:13-17; Lk 20:20-26
15 (Mk 12:13-17; Lk 20:20-26) Then the Pharisees went and took counsel
to entangle Him in His words.
16 (Mk 3:6; 8:15) They sent their disciples to Him with the Herodians,
saying, "Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God
truthfully, and are swayed by no one. For You do not regard the person of men.
17 (Lk 2:1; Mt 17:25) Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay
taxes to Caesar, or not?"
18 (Jn 8:6) But Jesus perceived their wickedness and said, "Why test Me,
you hypocrites?
19 Show Me the tax money." They brought Him a denarius.
20 He said to them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"
21 (Ro 13:7) They said to Him, "Caesar's."
Then He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things that are
Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
22 (Mk 12:12) When they heard these words, they were amazed,
and left Him and went on their way.
The Question About the Resurrection
Mk 12:18-27; Lk 20:27-40
23 (Mt 3:7; Ac 4:1) The same day the Sadducees, who say that there
is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,
24 "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies having no children,
his brother must marry his wife and raise up children for his brother.'
(Dt 25:5.)
25 Now there were seven brothers with us. The first died after he married
and, having no children, left his wife to his brother.
26 Likewise the second and third, on to the seventh.
27 Last of all, the woman died also.
28 Therefore, in the resurrection, whose wife shall she be of the seven?
For they all had her."
29 (Jn 20:9) Jesus answered, "You err, not knowing the Scriptures
nor the power of God.
30 (Ps 103:20; Mt 18:10) For in the resurrection they neither marry
nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels of God in heaven.
31 (Mt 21:16) But concerning the resurrection of the dead,
have you not read what was spoken to you by God,
32 (Ex 3:6; Ac 7:32) 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob' (Ex 3:6.) ?
God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."
33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at His teaching.
The Great Commandment
Mk 12:28-34; Lk 10:25-28
34 When the Pharisees heard that He silenced the Sadducees,
they came together.
35 (Lk 7:30; 14:3) One of them, who was a lawyer, tested Him by asking Him,
36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"
37 (Dt 6:5; Lk 10:27) Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.'(Dt 6:5.)
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 (Lev 19:18; Mt 19:19; Gal 5:14) And the second is like it:
'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' (Lev 19:18.)
40 (Mt 7:12) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."
The Question About David's Son
Mk 12:35-37; Lk 20:41-44
41 (Mk 12:35-37; Lk 20:41-44) While the Pharisees were assembled,
ÂJesus asked them,
42 (Mt 1:1) "What do you think of the Christ? Whose Son is He?"
They said to Him, "The Son of David."
43 (2Sa 23:2; Rev 4:2) He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit
call Him 'Lord,' saying:
44 (Ps 110:1; 1Co 15:25; Heb 1:13) 'The Lord said to my Lord,
"Sit at My right hand,
until I make Your enemies
Your footstool"'? (Ps 110:1).
45 (Ro 1:3-4) If David then calls Him 'Lord,' how is He his Son?"
46 (Mk 12:34; Lk 20:40) No one was able to answer Him a word,
nor from that day on did anyone dare to ask Him any more questions.
Mark 12
The Parable of the Vineyard and the Vinedressers
Mt 21:33-46; Lk 20:9-10
1 (SS 8:11-12; Isa 5:1-4) He began to speak to them in parables.
"A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, and dug a pit
for the winepress, and built a tower, and rented it to vinedressers,
and went to a far country.
2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the vinedressers
to receive from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 (2Ch 36:16; Ne 9:26) But they seized him and beat him
and sent him away empty-handed.
4 Then he sent another servant to them. They threw stones at him,
and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5 Still he sent another, and they killed him. And there were many others.
Some they beat, and some they killed.
6 (Mt 3:17; Heb 1:1-2) "Having yet his one well-beloved son,
he sent him last to them, saying, 'They will revere my son.'
7 "But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'
8 So they took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.
9 (Mt 21:43; Lk 19:27) "What then will the owner of the vineyard do?
He will come and kill the vinedressers and give the vineyard to others.
10 (Ps 118:22-23; Mt 21:16) Have you not read this Scripture:
'The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
11 This was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes'?"
12 (Mk 11:18; Mt 22:22) Then they tried to seize Him, but feared the people,
for they knew that He had spoken the parable against them.
So they left Him and went their way.
The Question of Paying Taxes
Mt 22:15-22; Lk 20:20-26
13 (Mk 3:6; Lk 11:54) They sent to Him some of the Pharisees
and some of the Herodians to trap Him in His words.
14 When they came to Him, they said, "Teacher, we know that You are true
and swayed by no man. For You do not regard the person of men,
but truthfully teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar,
or not?
15 Should we pay, or should we not pay?"
But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why test Me? Bring Me
a denarius that I may see it."
16 They brought it, and He said to them,
"Whose image and inscription is this?"
They said to Him, "Caesar's."
17 (Ro 13:7) Then Jesus answered them, "Render to Caesar the things
that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
And they were amazed at Him.
The Question About the Resurrection
Mt 22:23-33; Lk 20:27-40
18 (Mt 22:23-33; Ac 4:1-2) Then the Sadducees, who say there
is no resurrection, came to Him, saying,
19 "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies
and leaves his wife behind, but leaves no children, that man must
take the wife and raise up children for his brother.(Dt 25:5.)
20 Now there were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and when he died,
he left no children.
21 The second took her and died, leaving no children, and the third likewise.
22 The seven had her and left no children. Last of all, the woman died too.
23 In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be?
For the seven had her as wife."
24 (Jn 20:9; 2Ti 3:15-17) Jesus answered them, "Do you not err,
because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God?
25 When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given
in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
26 (Lk 20:37) Now concerning the dead rising, have you not read in the book
of Moses, in the account about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying,
'I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob'
(Ex 3:6.)?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living.
You therefore do greatly err."
The Great Commandment
Mt 22:34-40; Lk 10:25-28
28 (Mt 22:34-40; Lk 10:25-28) One of the scribes came and heard them
reasoning together. Perceiving that Jesus had answered them well,
he asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?"
29 (Dt 6:4; Lk 10:27) Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments
is, 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.
30 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' (Dt 6:4-5.)
This is the first commandment.
31 (Lev 19:18; Mt 7:12) The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbour
as yourself.'(Lev 19:18.) There is no other commandment greater than these."
32 (Dt 4:35; 4:39)The scribe said to Him, "Well said, Teacher. You have
spoken the truth, that there is one God and there is no other but Him.
33 (1Sa 15:22; Hos 6:6) To love Him with all the heart,
and with all the understanding, and with all the soul,
and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as oneself,
is more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices."
34 (Mt 22:46; Lk 20:40) When Jesus saw that he answered wisely,
He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God."
After that, no one dared to ask Him any question.
The Question About David's Son
Mt 22:41-46; Lk 20:41-44
35 (Lk 20:41-44; Mt 26:55) While Jesus taught in the temple, He said,
"How can the scribes say that Christ is the Son of David?
36 (Ps 110:1; 2Sa 23:2) David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:
'The Lord said to my Lord,
"Sit at My right hand,
until I put Your enemies
under Your feet." ' (Ps 110:1.)
37 (Ro 1:3-4) David himself calls Him 'Lord.' How then is He his Son?"
And the large crowd heard him gladly.
The Denouncing of the Scribes
Mt 23:1-36; Lk 20:45-47
38 (Lk 11:43; Mt 23:1-7) He said to them in His teaching,
"Beware of the scribes, who love to go about in long robes
and love greetings in the marketplaces,
39 and the prominent seats in the synagogues, and the places of honor
at banquets,
40 (Lk 20:47; Mt 6:7) who devour widows' houses and for a pretense
make long prayers. They will receive greater condemnation."
The Widow's Offering
Lk 21:1-4
41 (2Ki 12:9; Jn 8:20) Jesus sat opposite the treasury
and saw how the people put money into the treasury.
Many who were rich put in much.
42 But a certain poor widow came and put in two mites, which make a farthing.
(Gk. 2 lepta. A lepton, meaning "small" or "thin," was a fraction of a penny
and the smallest coin circulated.)
43 (2Co 8:2; 8:12) He called His disciples to Him and said to them,
"Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those
who are contributing to the treasury.
44 (Lk 8:43; 15:12) They all contributed out of their abundance.
But she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had, her entire livelihood."

entitled Reaching Others for Jesus
Matthew 28:16-20
The Commissioning of the Disciples
Mk 16:14-18; Lk 24:36-49; Jn 20:19-23; Ac 1:6-8
16 (Mt 28:7; 26:32) Then the eleven disciples went away to Galilee,
to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
17 (Mt 28:9) When they saw Him, they worshipped Him. But some doubted.
18 (Mt 11:27; Ro 14:9) Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying,
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 (Mk 16:15-16; Ac 1:8) Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptising them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 (Mt 18:20; Ac 2:42) teaching them to observe all things I have commanded
you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
A decade ago, they didn't know the name of Jesus. Hidden in the mountains
of Mindanao in the Philippines, the Banwaon people had little contact
with the outside world. A trip for supplies could take two days,
requiring an arduous hike over rugged terrain.
The world took no notice of them.
Then a mission group reached out, shuttling people in and out of the region
via helicopter. This gained the Banwaon access to needed supplies,
crucial medical help, and an awareness of the larger world.
It also introduced them to Jesus. Now, instead of singing to the spirits,
they chant their traditional tribal songs with new words that praise
the one true God. Mission aviation established the critical link.
When Jesus returned to His heavenly Father, He gave His disciples these
instructions: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptising them in the name of the Father
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit†(Matthew 28:19).
That command still stands.
Unreached people groups aren't limited to exotic locales we haven't heard of.
Often, they live among us. Reaching the Banwaon people took creativity
and resourcefulness, and it inspires us to find creative ways to overcome
the barriers in our communities. That might include an "inaccessible" group
you haven't even considered-someone right in your neighborhood.
How might God use you to reach others for Jesus?

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 3 - All I need
Phil 4:19
19 But my God shall supply your every need according
to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
"But Mom, I really need these!" The strident voice of a teenage girl
rose above the hum of voices in the department store. The item in question
was a pair of $80 blue Jeans, faded, bleached, and torn in the right knee.
Style . Fashion. Self-Image. The girl may not have needed the jeans to
enhance her wardrobe, but she obviously felt she needed then to
enhance her acceptability among her peers.
Phillippains 4:19 promises that God "will meet all your needs according
to his glorious riches in Christ." But just what needs does this promise
cover? My need for a bigger house? A better job? An $80 pair of Calvin Kleins?
Certainly God knows and cares about the physical, superficial need of our
lives, and he provides what we need to sustain life. But God's priority
goes much deeper than the kind of radial tires we buy or the brand name on
our back pockets. God is interested in eternal values, in spiritual needs, and
he knows what we need in our lives to draw us closer to him.
"Out of his glorious riches in Christ Jesus," God will enrich us spiritually.
The application of Phil 4:19 involves trusting God to know and care about our
real needs, the deep needs of our souls, and allowing him the freedom to
order our circumstances so that those needs are met. When we are bold
enough to pray, "Lord, do whatever is necessary to make me more like
Jesus Christ," our Father delights to answer that prayer and supply our needs.
Application
a) What is the difference between my "Needs" and my "wants"?
b) What spiritual needs can I identify in my life?
c) How can this verse help me keep my own priorities
in line with God's value system?
4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland
1 Tim 6:17-19
17 (Ro 11:20; 1Ti 4:10) Command those who are rich in this world that they
not be conceited, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God,
who richly gives us all things to enjoy.
18 (Ro 12:8; 12:13) Command that they do good, that they be rich
in good works, generous, willing to share,
19 (Lk 16:9; 1Ti 6:12) and laying up in store for themselves a good
foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of eternal life.

6) This come from Praying for Muslims in Canada 2015 (Is there a 2021 edition?)
Newfoundland & Labrador
Total population 527000
Muslim population (est.) 2065
As of Autumn 2014, St. John's does not have a local CNMM network. Pray with us
for God's people to come together in prayer and cooperative efforts to reach Muslims with the Good News.
St. John's has one mosque and 2 more musallas , or prayer locations, which
may grow into mosques of their own. The mosque is called Masjid an Noor,
The Mosque of the Light, and mosque historical documents record a trip in 1986
to Saudi Arabia to raise funds for the land purchase and construction costs.
A small number of Muslim families had come prior to 1964, but moved on to
other places after a short time. After this date, a small community began
to remain and grow , reaching about 25 families in the 1980s. A number
of international students also join the community annually
ranging from 25 to 60.
In 2014 the mosque website reports the community is made up of some 200
families and many university students attending Memorial University. A
small number of native Newfoundlanders have also converted to the Islamic
faith, one saying of this religion in Newfoundland, "Islam is a growing face".
With the growth of the community, the current challenge is lack of space
in the mosque, which they are now looking at expanding.
Pray for
- The true Light of life, Jesus Christ, to be revealed to Muslims
in Newfoundland through the word, dreams, visions and answers to prayer.
- Christians to be as "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" regarding
Islam and reaching out in loving witness to Muslims in St. John's.
- for a dedicated, intentional witness to the growing number of Muslim
students on the university, college and trade school campuses.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020
Under the Keep Praying page
When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

5 (Heb 2:3) "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his farm,
another to his business;

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
