Day 211 - 30 July 2021 reflections

Day 211, 30 July 2021

Isaiah 59-63

Isaiah 59

The Consequence of Sin

1 (Nu 11:23; Isa 50:2) Certainly, the hand of the Lord is not

so short that it cannot save,

nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear.

2 (Isa 50:1; Jer 5:25) But your iniquities have made a separation between

you and your God,

and your sins have hidden His face from you

so that He will not hear.

3 (Isa 1:15; 1:21) For your hands are defiled with blood

and your fingers with iniquity;

your lips have spoken lies,

your tongue has muttered perverseness.

4 (Job 15:35; Isa 30:12) No one calls for justice,

nor does anyone plead for truth.

They trust in vanity and speak lies;

they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity.

5 They hatch adders' eggs

and weave the spider's web;

he who eats of their eggs dies,

and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.

6 (Isa 57:12; Jer 6:7) Their webs shall not become garments,

nor shall they cover themselves with their works;

their works are works of iniquity,

and an act of violence is in their hands.

7 (Pr 1:16; 6:17) Their feet run to evil,

and they make haste to shed innocent blood;

their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity;

devastation and destruction are in their paths.

8 (Lk 1:79; Isa 48:22) The way of peace they do not know,

and there is no justice in their ways;

they have made their paths crooked;

whoever walks in them does not know peace.

The Confession of Sin

9 (Isa 5:30) Therefore, justice is far from us,

nor does righteousness overtake us;

we wait for light, but there is darkness,

for brightness, but we walk in gloom.

10 (Dt 28:29; Job 5:14) We grope along the wall like the blind,

and we grope as if we had no eyes;

we stumble at noonday as in the night;

among those who are vigorous, we are as dead men.

11 (Isa 38:14; Eze 7:16) We all roar like bears

and mourn sadly like doves;

we look for justice, but there is none;

for salvation, but it is far from us.

12 (Ezr 9:6; Jer 14:7) For our transgressions are multiplied before You,

and our sins testify against us;

for our transgressions are with us.

And as for our iniquities, we know them:

13 (Mk 7:21-22) transgressing, and lying against the Lord,

and departing away from our God,

speaking oppression and revolt,

conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

14 (Hab 1:4 )Justice is turned backward,

and righteousness stands far off;

for truth is fallen in the street,

and equity cannot enter.

15Truth is lacking,

and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.

The Redeemer of Zion

Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him

that there was no justice.

16 (Ps 98:1; Isa 52:10) He saw that there was no man

and was astonished that there was no intercessor;

therefore, His own arm brought salvation to Him,

and His righteousness sustained Him.

17 (Isa 9:7; Eph 6:14 ) For He put on righteousness as a breastplate

and a helmet of salvation on His head;

He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing

and was clad with zeal as a cloak.

18 (Isa 63:6; Job 34:11) According to their deeds,

accordingly He will repay:

fury to His adversaries,

recompense to His enemies;

to the islands He will make recompense.

19 (Ps 113:3; Isa 49:12) So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west

and His glory from the rising of the sun;

when the enemy shall come in like a flood,

the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.

20 (Ro 11:26-27; Eze 18:30-31) The Redeemer shall come to Zion

and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,

says the Lord.

21 (Isa 51:16; Jer 31:31-34) As for Me, this is My covenant with them,

says the Lord: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have

put in your mouth shall not depart out of your mouth,

nor out of the mouth of your descendants, nor out of the mouth

of your descendants' descendants, says the Lord,

from this time forth and forever.

Isaiah 60

The Glory of Zion

1 (Eph 5:8; 5:14) Arise, shine, for your light has come,

and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

2 For the darkness shall cover the earth

and deep darkness the peoples;

but the Lord shall rise upon you,

and His glory shall be seen upon you.

3 (Isa 49:23; 45:14; Rev 21:24) The nations shall come to your light

and kings to the brightness of your rising.

4 (Isa 49:18; 49:20-22) Lift up your eyes all around, and see:

They all gather themselves together; they come to you;

your sons shall come from afar,

and your daughters shall be carried at your side.

5 (Isa 61:6; 23:18) Then you shall see and be radiant,

and your heart shall thrill and rejoice

because the abundance of the sea shall be converted to you,

the wealth of the nations shall come to you.

6 (Ps 72:10; Mt 2:11) The multitude of camels shall cover your land,

the young camels of Midian and Ephah;

all those from Sheba shall come;

they shall bring gold and incense

and shall bear good news of the praises of the Lord.

7 (Ge 25:13; Isa 56:7) All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together

to you, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;

they shall come up with acceptance on My altar,

and I will glorify My glorious house.

8 Who are these who fly as a cloud

and as the doves to their roosts?

9 (Isa 2:16; 55:5) Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me,

and the ships of Tarshish shall come first,

to bring your sons from afar,

their silver and their gold with them,

to the name of the Lord your God

and to the Holy One of Israel

because He has glorified you.

10 (Isa 49:23; Zec 6:15) The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,

and their kings shall minister to you;

for in My wrath I struck you,

but in My favor I have had mercy on you.

11 (Isa 60:5; Rev 21:25-26) Therefore, your gates shall be open continually;

they shall not be shut day nor night,

so that men may bring to you the wealth of the nations,

and that their kings may be brought.

12 For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish,

and those nations shall be utterly destroyed.

13 (Isa 35:2; 1Ch 28:2) The glory of Lebanon shall come to you,

the fir tree, the pine tree, and the box tree together,

to beautify the place of My sanctuary;

and I will make the place of My feet glorious.

14 (Isa 49:23; Rev 3:9) The sons also of those who afflicted you shall come

bowing before you,

and all those who despised you shall bow themselves down

at the soles of your feet;

and they shall call you, The City of the Lord,

the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

15 (Isa 65:18; Jer 30:17) Whereas you have been forsaken

and hated so that no man went through you,

I will make you an eternal excellency,

a joy of many generations.

16 (Isa 49:23; 66:11-12) You shall also suck the milk of the nations

and suck the breast of kings;

then you shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior

and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17 Instead of bronze I will bring gold,

and instead of iron I will bring silver;

and instead of wood, bronze;

and instead of stones, iron.

I will also make your officers peace

and your exactors righteousness.

18 (Isa 26:1; 11:9) Violence shall no more be heard in your land,

nor devastation or destruction within your borders;

but you shall call your walls Salvation

and your gates Praise.

19 (Rev 21:23; 22:5) The sun shall no longer be your light by day,

nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you;

but the Lord shall be an everlasting light to you

and your God for your glory.

20 (Isa 35:10; Rev 21:4) Your sun shall no more go down,

nor shall your moon wane;

for the Lord shall be your everlasting light,

and the days of your mourning shall end.

21 (Ps 37:11; 37:22) Then all your people shall be righteous;

they shall inherit the land forever,

the branch of My planting,

the work of My hands,

that I may be glorified.

22 (Hab 2:3) A little one shall become a thousand,

and a small one a strong nation.

I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.

Isaiah 61

The Lord's Favour

1 (Ps 45:7; Isa 42:7) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me

because the Lord has anointed me

to preach good news to the poor;

He has sent me to heal the broken-hearted,

to proclaim liberty to the captives,

and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2 (Isa 34:8; 57:18) to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord

and the day of vengeance of our God;

to comfort all who mourn,

3 (Ps 45:7; 23:5) to preserve those who mourn in Zion,

to give to them beauty

for ashes,

the oil of joy

for mourning,

the garment of praise

for the spirit of heaviness,

that they might be called trees of righteousness,

the planting of the Lord,

that He might be glorified.

4 (Isa 58:12) They shall build the old ruins;

they shall raise up the former desolations,

and they shall repair the waste cities,

the desolations of many generations.

5 (Isa 14:1-2) Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks,

and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

6 (Ex 19:6; Isa 66:21) But you shall be named the priests of the Lord;

men shall call you the ministers of our God.

You shall eat the riches of the nations,

and in their glory you shall boast.

7 (Isa 40:2; Zec 9:12) Instead of your shame

you shall have double honor,

and instead of humiliation

they shall rejoice over their portion.

Therefore, in their land they shall possess a double portion;

everlasting joy shall be theirs.

8 (Isa 55:3; Ps 11:7) For I, the Lord, love justice,

I hate robbery in the burnt offering;

and I will faithfully give them their recompense

and make an everlasting covenant with them.

9 (Isa 44:3) Their descendants shall be known among the nations

and their offspring among the peoples.

All who see them shall acknowledge them

because they are the descendants whom the Lord has blessed.

10 (Rev 21:2; Isa 49:18; 52:1) I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,

my soul shall be joyful in my God;

for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,

He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,

as a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,

and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

11 (Ps 85:11; Isa 60:18) For as the earth brings forth her buds,

and as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,

so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise

to spring forth before all the nations.

Isaiah 62

The Salvation of Zion

1 (Pr 4:18; Isa 62:6-7) For the sake of Zion I will not keep silent,

and for the sake of Jerusalem I will not rest

until her righteousness goes forth as brightness

and her salvation as a lamp that burns.

2 (Isa 62:4; 62:12) The nations shall see your righteousness,

and all kings your glory.

And you shall be called by a new name,

which the mouth of the Lord shall name.

3 (Zec 9:16; 1Th 2:19) You shall also be a crown of glory

in the hand of the Lord

and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

4 (Jer 32:41; Zep 3:17) You shall no more be termed Forsaken,

nor shall your land be termed Desolate;

but you shall be called My Delight Is In Her,

and your land Married;

for the Lord delights in you,

and your land shall be married.

5 (Isa 65:19) For as a young man marries a virgin,

so your sons shall marry you;

and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,

so your God shall rejoice over you.

6 (Isa 52:8; Ps 74:2) I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem,

who shall never hold their peace day nor night.

You who remind the Lord,

do not keep silent;

7 (Jer 33:9; Zep 3:19-20 ) give Him no rest until He establishes

and makes Jerusalem a glory in the earth.

8 (Dt 28:33; Jer 5:17) The Lord has sworn by His right hand

and by His strong arm:

Surely I will no longer give your grain

as food for your enemies;

and the sons of the foreigners shall not drink your wine

for which you have labored.

9 (Dt 12:12) But those who have gathered it shall eat it

and praise the Lord;

and those who have brought it shall drink it

in the courts of My sanctuary.

10 (Isa 57:14; 49:22) Go through, go through the gates.

Prepare the way of the people;

build up, build up the highway.

Remove the stones;

lift up a standard over the peoples.

11 (Zec 9:9; Mt 21:5; Rev 22:12) The Lord has proclaimed

to the ends of the earth:

Say to the daughter of Zion,

"See, your salvation comes;

see, His reward is with Him,

and His recompense before Him."

12 (Isa 62:4; 35:9) They shall call them The Holy People,

the Redeemed of the Lord;

and you shall be called Sought Out,

a City Not Forsaken.

Isaiah 63

The Revenge of God

1 (Ps 137:7; Isa 34:5-6) "Who is this who comes from Edom

with dyed garments from Bozrah?

This one who is glorious in His apparel,

traveling in the greatness of His strength?"

"It is I who speak in righteousness,

mighty to save."

2 "Why is Your apparel red,

and Your garments like him who treads in the wine vat?"

3 (Mic 7:10) "I have trodden the winepress alone;

and from the peoples there was no one with Me.

For I will tread them in My anger,

and trample them in My fury,

and their blood shall be sprinkled upon My garments,

and I will stain all My raiment.

4 (Isa 34:8; 35:4) For the day of vengeance is in My heart,

and My year of redemption has come.

5 (Ps 44:3; 98:1) I looked and there was no one to help,

and I was astonished, and there was no one to uphold;

therefore, My own arm brought salvation to Me;

and My fury upheld Me.

6 (Isa 49:26) I will tread down the peoples in My anger

and make them drunk in My fury,

and I will pour out their lifeblood on the earth."

The Mercy of God Remembered

7 (Ps 51:1; Eph 2:4 ) I will mention the steadfast love of the Lord

and the praises of the Lord,

according to all that the Lord has bestowed on us,

and the great goodness toward the house of Israel,

which He has bestowed on them

according to His mercy,

and according to the multitude of His kindnesses.

8 (Ex 6:7; Isa 12:2) For He said, "Surely they are My people,

sons who will not lie."

So He became their Savior.

9 (Dt 7:7-8; Ex 33:14) In all their affliction He was afflicted,

and the angel of His presence saved them;

in His love and in His mercy He redeemed them;

and He lifted them and carried them

all the days of old.

10 (Ps 78:40; Ac 7:51) But they rebelled

and grieved His Holy Spirit;

therefore, He turned Himself to be their enemy,

and He fought against them.

11 (Nu 11:17; Ex 14:30) Then His people remembered the days of old,

of Moses, saying:

Where is He who brought them up out of the sea

with the shepherds of His flock?

Where is He who put

His Holy Spirit in their midst,

12 (Ex 15:16; Jos 3:16) who led them with His glorious arm

by the right hand of Moses,

dividing the water before them,

to make Himself an everlasting name,

13 who led them through the deep,

as a horse in the wilderness,

that they should not stumble?

14 (Jos 23:1; Isa 63:12) As the cattle which go down into the valley,

the Spirit of the Lord caused them to rest,

so You led Your people,

to make Yourself a glorious name.

A Prayer of Penitence

15 (Dt 26:15; Ps 80:14) Look down from heaven and see,

from Your holy and glorious habitation.

Where are Your zeal and Your strength?

The stirrings of Your heart and Your mercies toward me are restrained.

16 (Isa 44:6; Dt 32:6) For You are our Father,

though Abraham is ignorant of us

and Israel does not recognize us.

You, O Lord, are our Father, our Redeemer;

Your name is from everlasting.

17 (Nu 10:36; Ps 90:13) O Lord, why have You made us to err from Your ways

and hardened our heart from fearing You?

Return for Your servants' sake,

the tribes of Your inheritance.

18 (Ps 74:3-7) Your holy people possessed Your sanctuary for a little while;

our adversaries have trodden it down.

19 We have become

as those over whom You have never ruled,

as those who were not called by Your name.

2) Our Daily Bread for 30 July 2021

https://odb.org/CA/2021/07/30/overcoming-envy-2

entitled Overcoming Envy

1 Samuel 18:5-9

5 (1Sa 18:14-15; 18:30) David went out wherever Saul sent him,

and he was successful. So Saul set him over the men of war,

and it was pleasing in the sight of all the people

and also in the sight of the servants of Saul.

6 (Ex 15:20; Jdg 11:34) When they came home, as David was returning

from slaying the Philistine, the women came out from all cities of Israel

to meet King Saul, singing and dancing, with tambourines, with joy,

and with musical instruments.

7 (1Sa 21:11; Ex 15:21; 1Sa 29:5) The dancing women sang and said,

"Saul has slain his thousands,

and David his ten thousands."

8 (1Sa 15:28) Saul became very angry, and this saying was displeasing to him.

Therefore he said, "They have ascribed to David ten thousands,

but to me they have ascribed thousands.

Now what remains for him to have but the kingdom?"

9 So Saul was suspicious of David from that day and forward.

In the film Amadeus, aging composer Antonio Salieri plays some of his music

on the piano for a visiting priest. The embarrassed priest confesses he doesn't

recognize the tunes. "What about this one?" Salieri says, playing an instantly

familiar melody. "I didn't know you wrote that," the priest says. "I didn't,"

Salieri replies. "That was Mozart!" As viewers discover, Mozart's success

had caused deep envy in Salieri

-even leading him to play a part in Mozart's death.

A song lies at the heart of another envy story. After David's victory

over Goliath, the Israelites heartily sing, "Saul has slain his thousands,

and David his tens of thousands" (1 Samuel 18:7). The comparison doesn't

sit well with King Saul. Envious of David's success

and afraid of losing his throne (vv. 8-9),

Saul begins a prolonged pursuit of David, trying to take his life.

Like Salieri with music or Saul with power, we're usually tempted

to envy those with similar but greater gifts than we possess.

And whether it's picking fault with their work or belittling

their success, we too can seek to damage our "rivals."

Saul had been divinely chosen for his task (10:6-7, 24),

a status that should've fostered security in him rather than envy.

Since we each have unique callings too (Ephesians 2:10),

maybe the best way to overcome envy is to quit comparing ourselves.

Let's celebrate each other's successes instead.

Reflect & Pray

Whom are you most tempted to envy? How can you celebrate their success?

Loving God, I thank You for my friends' and colleagues' successes.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 6 - Shielded by the Word

Proverbs 30:5

5 (Ps 12:6; 18:30) Every word of God is pure;

He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

A wife of ten years, betrayed by her husband's infidelity, declares that

she will never trust a man again. A teenage son says of his father, "I

can't depend on him anymore! Dad always talk big and makes promises,

but he never does what he says." A career woman, her reputation

undermined by gossip, leaves the church broken, and never returns.

Human beings are weak, volatile, unfaithful creatures; often we

break our word and hurt others in the process. But the Scripture

clearly assures us that God's Word is not like the word of man.

God always reamins faithful to his Word, always fulfills his promises,

always does what he says he will do.

God's word is pure (or flawless), Proverbs 30:5 says. His Word

is not distorted with mixed motives or flawed by untruth. God's Word

is dependable, able to support and lift us up, able to speak

encouragement to us. His Word is a "shield" a protection for us

against the onslaughts of the Enemy, a place of refuge from the struggle

and confusion of daily life.

We live in a world that recongnises no absolute truth. Morality,

values, relationships, ethics - every decision of life, it seems,

"depends on the situation." But in the midst of the confusion,

God interjects his Word - timeless, pure, trustworthy, reliable.

We can depend upon God's Word. We can turn to him to verify who we are

and the purposes for which we were created. We can find refuge in his truth,

and rest in the knowledge that whatever he says, he will do.

Application

a) In my own experience, how have I found God's Word

to be different from the word of men and women?

b) In what areas of my life do I need the assurance of the validity

and dependability of God's Word?

c) How can today's verse help me trust more fully in God's Word?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

Eph 4:28

28 (Ex 20:15; 1Th 4:11–12) Let him who steals steal no more.

Instead, let him labor, working with his hands things which

are good, that he may have something to share with him who is in need.

God's Guiding Presence

Ps 139:1-12

PSALMS 139

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, You have searched me

and known me.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) You know when I sit down and when I get up;

You understand my thought from far off.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) You search my path and my lying down

and are aware of all my ways.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) For there is not a word on my tongue,

but behold, O Lord, You know it fully.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) You put Yourself behind and before me,

and keep Your hand on me.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

it is lofty, and I cannot fathom it.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) Where shall I go from Your spirit,

or where shall I flee from Your presence?

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) If I ascend to heaven, You are there;

if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) If I take the wings of the morning

and dwell at the end of the sea,

10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) even there Your hand shall guide me,

and Your right hand shall take hold of me.

11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) If I say, "Surely the darkness shall coverme,

and the light shall be as night about me,"

12 even the darkness is not dark to You,

but the night shines as the day,

for the darkness is like light to You.

Remember God's promises when You pray

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'
