Day 204 - 23 July 2021 reflections

Day 204, 23 July 2021

Isaiah 35-36

Isaiah 35

The Future Glory of Zion

1 (Isa 51:3; 55:12-13) The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad,

and the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose;

2 (Isa 60:13; 25:9) it shall blossom abundantly

and rejoice even with joy and singing.

The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,

the excellency of Carmel and Sharon.

They shall see the glory of the Lord

and the excellency of our God.

3 (Heb 12:12; Job 4:3-4) Strengthen the weak hands,

and support the feeble knees.

4 Isa 34:8; 28:16 Say to those who are of a fearful heart,

"Be strong, fear not.

Your God will come

with vengeance,

even God with a recompense;

He will come and save you."

5 (Isa 29:18; 32:3-4) Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,

and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

6 (Lk 11:14; Jn 5:8-9) Then the lame man shall leap as a deer,

and the tongue of the mute sing for joy.

For in the wilderness waters shall break out

and streams in the desert.

7 (Isa 13:22; 34:13) The parched ground shall become a pool,

and the thirsty land springs of water;

in the habitation of jackals where each lay,

there shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 (Isa 52:1; 11:16) A highway shall be there, a roadway,

and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness.

The unclean shall not pass on it,

but it shall be for the wayfaring men,

and fools shall not wander on it.

9 (Isa 62:12) No lion shall be there,

nor any ravenous beast shall go up on it;

these shall not be found there,

but the redeemed shall walk there,

10 (Rev 21:4; Isa 25:8) and the ransomed of the Lord shall return

and come to Zion with songs

and everlasting joy upon their heads.

They shall obtain joy and gladness,

and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Isaiah 36

Sennacherib Invades Judah

2Ki 18:13-37; 2Ch 32:9-19

1 (2Ch 32:1; 2Ki 18:13) Now it came to pass in the 14th year of King Hezekiah

that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities

of Judah and took them.

2 (Isa 7:3; 2Ki 18:17-37) The king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh

[Possibly Commanding General.] from Lachish to Jerusalem

to King Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit

of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.

3 Then Eliakim came to him, the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household,

and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder.

4 The Rabshakeh said to them:

"Say now to Hezekiah: Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria:

What confidence is this that you have?

5 (2Ki 18:7) I say, Your counsel and strength for war are only empty words.

Now on whom do you rely that you rebel against me?

6 (Eze 29:6-7) You rely on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt,

on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it.

So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who rely on him.

7 (2Ki 18:4-5) But if you say to me, 'We trust in the Lord our God,'

is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away,

and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar'?

8 "Now therefore, come make a bargain with my master the king of Assyria,

and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part

to set riders on them.

9 (Isa 10:8) How then will you turn away one captain of the least

of my master's servants and rely on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

10 (1Ki 13:18) Have I now come up without the approval of the Lord

against this land to destroy it? The Lord said to me,

Go up against this land, and destroy it."

11 (Ezr 4:7; Da 2:4) Then Eliakim and Shebna and Joah said to the Rabshakeh,

"Speak now to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it.

And do not speak to us in Hebrew

in the ears of the people who are on the wall."

12 But the Rabshakeh said, "Has my master sent me only to your master

and to you to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men who sit

on the wall, that they may eat their own dung and drink their own urine

with you?"

13 (2Ch 32:18) Then the Rabshakeh stood and cried out with a loud voice

in Hebrew, and said, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

14 Thus says the king, 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you,

for he shall not be able to deliver you;

15 nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying,

The Lord will surely deliver us.

This city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.'

16 (1Ki 4:25; Zec 3:10) "Do not listen to Hezekiah, for thus says

the king of Assyria: 'Make your peace with me and come out to me,

and eat every one of his vine and every one of his fig tree,

and drink every one the waters of his own cistern,

17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land,

a land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

18 (Isa 36:15) " 'Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The Lord will

deliver us. Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered his land out

of the hand of the king of Assyria?

19 (Jer 49:23; Isa 10:9-11) Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad?

Where are the gods of Sepharvaim?

And when have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

20 (2Ch 32:19) Who are they among all the gods of these lands that have

delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem

out of my hand?' "

21 (Pr 26:4) But they held their peace, and answered him not a word,

for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."

22 (Isa 36:3; 33:7) Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was

over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph,

the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn

and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.

2) Our Daily Bread for 23 July 2021

https://odb.org/CA/2021/07/23/the-greatest-symphony

entitled The Greatest Symphony

1 Cor 12:12-20

12 (1Co 12:27; 10:17) For as the body is one and has many parts,

and all the many parts of that one body are one body, so also is Christ.

13 (Jn 7:37-39; Gal 3:28) For by one Spirit we are all baptized into one body,

whether we are Jews or Gentiles, whether we are slaves or free,

and we have all been made to drink of one Spirit.

14 The body is not one part, but many.

15 If the foot says, "Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body,"

is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear says, "Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body,"

is it therefore not of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be?

If the whole body were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?

18 (1Co 12:11; 12:28) But now God has established the parts,

every one of them, in the body as it has pleased Him.

19 If they were all one part, where would the body be?

20 So there are many parts, yet one body.

When BBC Music Magazine asked 151 of the world's leading conductors

to list twenty of what they believed to be the greatest symphonies

ever written, Beethoven's Third, Eroica, came out on top. The work,

whose title means "heroic," was written during the turmoil

of the French Revolution. But it also came out of Beethoven's own struggle

as he slowly lost his hearing. The music evokes extreme swings of emotion

that express what it means to be human and alive while facing challenges.

Through wild swings of happiness, sadness, and eventual triumph Beethoven's

Third Symphony is regarded as a timeless tribute to the human spirit.

Paul's first letter to the Corinthians deserves our attention for similar

reasons. Through inspired words rather than musical scores,

it rises in blessing (1:4-9), falls in the sadness of soul-crushing

conflict (11:17-22), and rises again in the unison of gifted people

working together for one another and for the glory of God (12:6-7).

The difference is that here we see the triumph of our human spirit

as a tribute to the Spirit of God. As Paul urges us to experience together

the inexpressible love of Christ, he helps us see ourselves as called together

by our Father, led by His Son, and inspired by His Spirit-not for noise,

but for our contribution to the greatest symphony of all.

By: Mart DeHaan

Reflect & Pray

Where do you hear the dissonance of conflict in your own life?

Where do you see the symphonic harmonies of love?

Father, please enable me to see what I can be with others,

with my eyes on Your Son, with reliance on Your Spirit,

with a growing awareness of what You can do with a noisemaker like me.

3) Daily verses taken from Billy Graham Evangelical Organisation

Words in Season Scripture Memory Tools

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 6 - Through The Fire

Is 43:2

2 (Ps 66:12; Da 3:25–27) When you pass through waters,

I will be with you.And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.

When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,

nor shall the flame kindle on you.

In the Book of Daniel, 3 young men provide one of the world's best-known

Bible stories. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, three of the finest young

men of Israel, were taken into capitivity to Babylon. There King

Nebuchadnezzar, filled with his own importance, commanded that

everyone bow down and worship his image.

When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship anyone

except the One True god, they were cast into Nebuchadnezzar's

furnace of fire.

Is 43:2 brings their experience into focus for us. There the Lord says,

"When you pass throught the fire ... when you walk through the water ..."

Not if, but when. If we are committed to serving and honouring the Lord,

at some point we will be faced with "passing through the fire" for hm.

We may not face a physical frunace, but we may face the fires of

persecution, anger, hostility or suffering. And God says:

"I will be with you."

When the three young Israelites stepped into the king's furnace, all

the people looked and saw, not three, but four men in the fire, their

bonds burned away, walking freely among the flames. They did not

escape the fate decreed for them. But the Lord was with them in

the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the flood

and the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the

flood and fire tht life brings to us. The promise of god remains:

"I will be with you; the waters will not overflow, nor will the

flames burn you."

Application

a) What kinds of "fires" and "Floods" have I experienced?

b) How was I aware of the Lord's presence with me?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

2 Chr 31:21

21 And in every deed that he undertook in the service of the house

of God and with the law and commandment to seek out his God,

he did this with all his heart, and he found success.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

God's Protection in Times of Trouble

Ps 27:1-6

PSALMS 27

A Psalm of David.

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;

whom will I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life;

of whom will I be afraid?

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) When the wicked came against me

to eat my flesh—

my enemies and my foes—

they stumbled and fell.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Though an army should encamp against me,

my heart will not fear;

though war should rise against me,

in this will I be confident.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) One thing I have asked from the Lord,

that will I seek after—

for me to dwell in the house of the Lord

all the days of my life,

to see the beauty of the Lord,

and to inquire in His temple.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) For in the time of trouble

He will hide me in His pavilion;

in the shelter of His tabernacle He will hide me;

He will set me up on a rock.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9) Now my head will be lifted up

above my enemies encircling me;

therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.

Remember God's promises when You pray

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .
