Youth Club at JD Bracco Jr. High

It is 4 - 8 pm on Fridays. Not sure if it going through the summer at this point. Hopefully next year as well. Boys and Girls club coordinator, we have one of our staff there this week and hopefully in the weeks to come as the numbers are up to 30 now. We have trained mentors that are with the Olive Branch Church in Clareview, also periodic visits from library folks etc. It is all free. Click here to view flyer.

Kirkness Kindergarten Registration

2012 - 2013

Kirkness school is now accepting registrations for next year's kindergarten program.

Children must be five years of age on or before March 1, 2013 to be eligible to attend Kindergarten next year. This means they must be born before March 1st, 2008. As part of the registration process, we require that parents provide one of the following: Birth Certificate, Passport, Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant document. Kindergarten fees are $85.00 for the year which covers all fieldtrips and in-school presentations as well as most school supplies. Please remember to have your child's Kindergarten immunization completed before school starts in September.

Parents are encouraged to drop by the office between 8 am to 4 pm to register.

If you know of parents who do not receive this newsletter and have children eligible for kindergarten, please pass this information on to them. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the school at 780-473-5924.

Green Shack Playground Program Locations


The Green Shack Playground Program is FREE to participants and is open to children 6 – 12 yrs. Children under the age of 6 are welcome to attend but must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

Program Descriptions


Green Thumbs - Come and get the scoop on growing flowers and vegetables. Learn some neat ways that our insect friends help us out in the garden! Planting seeds, crafting some beautiful bugs and making cool garden markers are all part of the fun!


All Sports - Grab your sneakers for an exciting week filled with all your favorite sports! Test your skills and be prepared to learn some new ones with awesome cooperative games like soccer, ultimate frisbee and others. Refresh yourself with a dip at a nearby pool.


Summer Survivor - Take an adventure through the rugged outback of your neighborhood. You will meet new and fun challenges and develop summer survival skills like shelter building, team work, and finding awesome adventures in regular places. You’ll learn how to battle boredom and get creative! We’ll even take our adventure to the neighborhood pool!


Wonderful World of Wheels - Explore bikes, cars, trucks and trains in this ‘wheelie’ great program for preschoolers. Bike safety, obstacle courses, games and crafts are all part of the fun! Participants must supply their own bike, helmet and bell. Experience using a bike is highly recommended.


Puppeteers - Come join us for a week of puppet making, story telling and crazy zany games. Take part in a puppet show and take your own puppet home.


Spherical Sports - It’s round and it’s great! Soccer, soccer baseball, volleyball, basketball! Get your game on! You will also learn about sportsmanship and team work in this fun and active camp. If it’s a sphere, we can play it here!


Outdoor Bound - Bound into the outdoors and discover activities like orienteering, archery, biking, ropes, canoeing and swimming. Your leaders will also teach you some exciting wide games that you can play in your own neighborhood.


Adventure in the Valley - Discover your way through this exciting week of adventure. Seek, explore and uncover the mysteries of your neighborhood through hikes, games and the beauty of nature. Please dress appropriate for outdoor weather. (Children may be off site in ravine or forested areas near the hall).


Mmmmonsters - The Monster Factory is now looking for young energetic scarers to join our new organization. Munch on monster treats, make monster masks, move to monster music and discover the world of not too scary monsters.


Eco Friends - Are you ready to reduce, reuse and recycle? Each day you will create environmentally friendly craft projects, including decorating your own reusable lunch bag. You will also explore your own neighborhood and uncover the secret world of the animals and plants that live there. You will be amazed at what you find!


Super Hero Kids - What kind of super hero would you be and what super powers would you have? Enjoy a week of super hero challenges as you design your own costume and mask and record your adventures in a comic book with you as the hero.


X-Treme Action - Do you like to live on the edge? Do you like challenges and action?  Then this camp is for you.  Some of the exciting experiences you will take part in are wall climbing, laser tag, archery, ropes courses and canoeing.


Skateboard 202 - Know the basics of Skateboarding? Then come to learn and practice new tricks. We will also review basic skills. (CSA SKATEBOARD HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.)




Youth Activities, check out the FREE Steve Van and the FREE Sports Van for youth ages 12 – 17 years.

S.T.E.V.E. Van - The Summer Travelling Extreme Van Experience (S.T.E.V.E.) goes to numerous sites around Edmonton during the summer and brings with it a variety of activities. Equipment and activities include Frisbee Golf, Giant Jenga, Minute to Win It, and the OMNI ball. Good times to be had by all. Come and check out the S.T.E.V.E. in Clareview on the following dates:

Sports Van - The Sports Van drives to a number of sites in the summer for neighbourhood teens to play street hockey and basketball.

During the month of July, the van brings out street hockey equipment. At the end of July we host a major street hockey tournament.

During the month of August, the van brings out basketball equipment for 3-on-3 games, 21, and bump. We also bring out a giant inflatable basketball. At the end of August, we host a huge basketball tournament.
