Radiant Heat installation
- Types of wood flooring that are most suited for radiant heat are products with improved dimensional stability. For example, engineered wood is more stable than solid wood flooring
- Some examples of species that are more dimensionally stable are North American Oak, American cherry, and American walnut.
- Denser species like Maple and Brazilian Cherry are not as stable.
- The narrower boards are more dimensionally stable than a wider board.
- Concrete floors that are cured should be turned on and left running for about one week to drive out excess moisture.
- Some installation methods such as glue down application may require the heat to be turned down or even turned off prior to installation.
- A water heated radiant heating system should pressure tested by a qualified plumber and documented prior to the installation.
- If different flooring materials are being used and they are on the same circuit or heat zone it would be advised to contact a HVAC mechanical engineer.
- Radiant heat is a dry heat; caution should be taken to maintain the humidity, assuring that it stays in its comfort zone.
