Day 209 of the 2nd Bible Study Journey - 28 July 2022 reflections

Day 209, 28 July 2022

1) Jeremiah 2:23-5:19

Jeremiah 2

23 (Jer 7:31; Pr 30:12) How can you say, "I am not polluted,

I have not gone after the Baals"?

See your way in the valley.

Know what you have done.

You are a swift young camel

entangling her ways,

24 (Jer 14:6) a wild donkey used to the wilderness

that sniffs the wind in her passion.

In the time of her heat, who can turn her away?

All those who seek her will not weary themselves;

in her month they shall find her.

25 (Dt 32:16; Jer 3:13) Withhold your foot from being unshod

and your throat from thirst.

But you said, "There is no hope. No!

For I have loved strangers,

and after them I will go."

26 (Jer 32:32) As the thief is ashamed when he is found,

so is the house of Israel ashamed.

They, their kings, their officials,

and their priests, and their prophets

27 (Isa 26:16) say to a tree, "You are my father."

And to a stone, "You gave birth to me."

For they have turned their back to Me,

and not their face.

But in the time of their trouble they will say,

"Arise and save us."

28 (Dt 32:37; Isa 45:20) But where are your gods

that you have made for yourself?

Let them arise, if they can save you

in the time of your trouble;

for according to the number of your cities

are your gods, O Judah.

29 (Jer 5:1; 6:13) Why will you plead with Me?

You all have transgressed against Me,

says the Lord.

30 (Ne 9:26; 1Th 2:15) In vain I have smitten your children;

they received no correction.

Your own sword has devoured your prophets

like a destroying lion.

31 (Dt 32:15O) generation, consider the word of the Lord:

Have I been a wilderness to Israel?

A land of darkness?

Why do My people say, "We are free to roam.

We will come no more to You"?

32 (Ps 106:21; Isa 17:10) Can a virgin forget her ornaments,

or a bride her attire?

Yet My people have forgotten Me

for days without number.

33 You prepare your way very well to seek love.

Therefore you have also taught the wicked women your ways.

34 (2Ki 21:16; 24:4) Also in your skirts is found

the blood of the souls of the innocent poor.

I have not found it by breaking in,

but in spite of all these things.

35 (Pr 28:13) Yet you say, "Because I am innocent,

surely His anger shall turn away from me."

Now I will plead with you,

because you say, "I have not sinned."

36 (Jer 31:22; Hos 5:13) Why do you go about so much

to change your way?

You also shall be ashamed of Egypt,

as you were ashamed of Assyria.

37 (2Sa 13:19; Jer 37:7-10) Indeed, you shall go forth from him

with your hands upon your head;

for the Lord has rejected those in whom you trust,

and you shall not prosper in them.

[23] How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim?

see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift

dromedary traversing her ways;

[24] A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her

pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her

will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

[25] Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but

thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after

them will I go.

[26] As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel

ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their

prophets,

[27] Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast

brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their

face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

[28] But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if

they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number

of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

[29] Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me,

saith the LORD.

[30] In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction:

your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

[31] O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness

unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we

will come no more unto thee?

[32] Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people

have forgotten me days without number.

[33] Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also

taught the wicked ones thy ways.

[34] Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor

innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

[35] Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn

from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not

sinned.

[36] Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be

ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

[37] Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for

the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

Jeremiah 3

Unfaithful Israel

1 (Dt 24:1-4; Jer 2:20) If a man divorces his wife,

and she goes from him and becomes another man's,

shall he return to her again?

Shall not that land be greatly polluted?

But you have played the harlot with many lovers;

yet return again to Me,

says the Lord.

2 (Ge 38:14; Jer 2:7) Lift up your eyes to the high places,

and see! Where have you not been ravished?

In the roads you have sat for them

as the Arabian in the wilderness.

And you have polluted the land

with your harlotry and with your wickedness.

3 (Jer 6:15; Lev 26:19) Therefore the showers have been withheld,

and there has been no latter rain.

And you had a harlot's forehead;

you refused to be ashamed.

4 (Jer 2:2; 3:19) Shall you not from this time cry to Me,

"My Father, You are the guide of my youth?

5 (Isa 57:16; Jer 3:12) Shall He reserve His anger forever?

Shall He keep it to the end?"

Indeed, you have spoken

and done evil things as you could.

A Call to Repentance

6 The Lord said also to me in the days of Josiah the king:

Have you seen that which backsliding Israel has done?

She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree,

and there has played the harlot.

7 (Eze 16:46) I said after she had done all these things, "Turn to Me."

But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

8 (Dt 24:1; Isa 50:1) I saw that for all the adulteries of backsliding Israel,

I had put her away and given her a bill of divorce. Yet her treacherous

sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.

9 (Jer 2:27; Isa 57:6) Through the lightness of her harlotry

she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and with trees.

10 (Hos 7:14) Yet for all this, her treacherous sister Judah has not

turned to Me with her whole heart, but feignedly, says the Lord.

God Invites Repentance

11 (Eze 16:51-52; 23:11) The Lord said to me: Backsliding Israel has proved

herself more righteous than treacherous Judah.

12 (Ps 86:15; Eze 33:11) Go and proclaim these words toward the north,

and say: Return, backsliding Israel, says the Lord,

and I will not cause My anger to fall on you.

For I am merciful, says the Lord,

and I will not keep anger forever.

13 (Dt 12:2; 30:1-3) Only acknowledge your iniquity,

that you have transgressed against the Lord your God

and have scattered your ways to the strangers

under every green tree,

and you have not obeyed My voice,

says the Lord.

14 (Isa 54:5; Jer 31:32) Return, O backsliding sons, says the Lord.

For I am married to you. And I will take you, one from a city

and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

15 (Ac 20:28; Jer 23:4) And I will give you shepherds according to My heart,

who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

16 (Isa 65:17) It shall come to pass when you are multiplied

and increased in the land in those days, says the Lord, they will say no more,

"The ark of the covenant of the Lord."

And it will not come to mind, nor will they remember it,

nor will they call for it, nor will it be made any more.

17 (Jer 11:8; 17:12) At that time they will call Jerusalem,

the Throne of the Lord, and all the nations will be gathered to it,

to Jerusalem, for the name of the Lord; nor will they walk any more

after the stubbornness of their evil hearts.

18 (Jer 31:8; 50:4) In those days the house of Judah will walk

with the house of Israel, and they will come together out of the land

of the north to the land that I have given to your fathers for an inheritance.

19 (Jer 3:4; Isa 63:16) But I said:

How can I put you among My sons

and give you a pleasant land,

the most beautiful heritage of the nations?

And I said: You shall call Me, My Father,

and shall not turn away from Me.

20 (Isa 48:8; Jer 5:11) Surely as a wife treacherously departs

from her husband, so you have dealt treacherously with Me, O house of Israel,

says the Lord.

21 (Isa 15:2; 17:10) A voice was heard upon the high places,

the weeping and the supplications of the sons of Israel,

because they have perverted their way,

they have forgotten the Lord their God.

22 (Hos 14:4) Return, O backsliding sons,

and I will heal your backslidings.

"We come to You;

for You are the Lord our God.

23 (Ps 3:8; 121:1-2) Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills,

and from the multitude of mountains.

Truly, in the Lord our God

is the salvation of Israel.

24 (Hos 9:10) For shame has devoured the labor

of our fathers from our youth,

their flocks and their herds,

their sons and their daughters.

25 (Jer 22:21) We lie down in our shame,

and our humiliation covers us.

For we have sinned against the Lord our God,

we and our fathers,

from our youth even to this day,

and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God."

Jeremiah 3

[1] They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become

another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be

greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet

return again to me, saith the LORD.

[2] Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not

been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the

wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy

wickedness.

[3] Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no

latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be

ashamed.

[4] Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide

of my youth?

[5] Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold,

thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

[6] The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou

seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high

mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

[7] And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But

she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

[8] And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed

adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her

treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

[9] And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she

defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

[10] And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto

me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

[11] And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified

herself more than treacherous Judah.

[12] Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou

backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall

upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for

ever.

[13] Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against

the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every

green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

[14] Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto

you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will

bring you to Zion:

[15] And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed

you with knowledge and understanding.

[16] And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the

land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the

covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they

remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any

more.

[17] At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all

the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to

Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their

evil heart.

[18] In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel,

and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I

have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

[19] But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a

pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou

shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.

[20] Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye

dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

[21] A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of

the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have

forgotten the LORD their God.

[22] Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings.

Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

[23] Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the

multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of

Israel.

[24] For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth;

their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

[25] We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have

sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even

unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

Jeremiah 4

Judah Threatened With Invasion

1 (Joel 2:12; Jer 3:22) If you will return, O Israel,

says the Lord,

return to Me.

And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight,

then you shall not be moved.

2 (Isa 65:16; Jer 9:24; Ge 22:18) You shall swear, "As the Lord lives,"

in truth, in justice, and in righteousness;

then the nations shall bless themselves in Him,

and in Him they shall glory.

3 (Hos 10:12; Mt 13:7) For thus says the Lord to

the men of Judah and Jerusalem:

Break up your fallow ground,

and do not sow among thorns.

4 (Dt 10:16; Jer 9:26) Circumcise yourselves to the Lord,

and take away the foreskins of your heart,

you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem,

lest My fury come forth like fire,

and burn so that no one can quench it,

because of the evil of your deeds.

5 (Jer 8:14; Jos 10:20) Declare in Judah and publish in Jerusalem, and say:

Blow the trumpet in the land.

Cry aloud and say,

"Assemble yourselves,

and let us go into the fortified cities."

6 (Jer 1:13-15; 50:2 ) Set up the standard toward Zion.

Seek refuge, do not delay.

For I will bring disaster from the north,

and a great destruction.

7 (Jer 2:15; Isa 1:7) The lion has come up from his thicket,

and the destroyer of the nations is on his way.

He has gone forth from his place

to make your land desolate.

And your cities shall be laid waste

without an inhabitant.

8 (Isa 22:12; Jer 6:26) For this gird yourself with sackcloth,

lament and howl.

For the fierce anger of the Lord

is not turned back from us.

9 (Isa 22:3-5; 29:9-10) It shall come to pass in that day, says the Lord,

that the heart of the king will fail and the heart of the officials;

and the priests will be astonished

and the prophets will wonder.

10 (Jer 5:12) Then I said, "Ah, Lord God! Surely You have greatly deceived

this people and Jerusalem, saying, 'You shall have peace,'

whereas the sword reaches the throat."

11 (Eze 17:10; Hos 13:15) At that time it will be said to this people

and to Jerusalem: A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness

toward the daughter of My people, not to fan or to cleanse,

12 (Jer 1:16) even a full wind from those places, will come to Me.

Now also I will pronounce judgments against them.

13 (Isa 5:28; 19:1) Look! He shall come up as clouds,

and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind.

His horses are swifter than eagles.

Woe to us, for we are ruined!

14 (Jas 4:8; Pr 1:22) O Jerusalem, wash your heart from wickedness,

that you may be saved.

How long shall your evil thoughts lodge within you?

15 (Jer 8:16) For a voice declares from Dan,

and publishes wickedness from Mount Ephraim:

16 (Jer 5:15; Eze 21:22) "Report it to the nations, now!"

Indeed, proclaim against Jerusalem:

"Besiegers come from a far country,

and lift their voices against the cities of Judah.

17 (Jer 5:23; 2Ki 25:1-4) As watchmen of a field, they are against her all around,

because she has been rebellious against Me,

says the Lord.

18 (Jer 2:19; Ps 107:17; Isa 50:1) Your way and your deeds

have procured these things to you.

This is your wickedness.

How bitter it is!

How it touches your heart!"

Sorrow for a Doomed Nation

19 (Isa 16:11; 22:4) My soul, my soul!

I am pained at my very heart.

My heart makes a noise in me.

I cannot hold my peace,

because you have heard, O my soul,

the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

20 (Ps 42:7) Destruction upon destruction is proclaimed,

for the whole land is devastated.

Suddenly are my tents devastated,

and my curtains in a moment.

21 How long shall I see the standard

and hear the sound of the trumpet?

22 (Ro 16:19; 1Co 14:20) "For My people are foolish,

they have not known Me.

They are foolish children,

and they have no understanding.

They are wise to do evil,

but to do good they have no knowledge."

23 (Ge 1:2; Isa 5:30) I looked on the earth,

and it was without form and void.

And to the heavens,

and they had no light.

24 (Isa 5:25; Eze 38:20 ) I looked on the mountains,

and they trembled,

and all the hills moved to and fro.

25 I looked, and there was no man,

and all the birds of the heavens had fled.

26 (Ps 107:34) I looked, and the fruitful place was a wilderness,

and all the cities were broken down

at the presence of the Lord, and by His fierce anger.

27 (Jer 5:10; 5:18) For thus says the Lord:

The whole land shall be desolate.

Yet I will not make a full end.

28 (Nu 23:19; Isa 50:3) For this the earth shall mourn,

and the heavens above be black,

because I have spoken it, I have purposedit,

and will not relent, nor will I turn back from it.

29 (Isa 2:19-21; Jer 4:7) The whole city shall flee

for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen.

They shall go into thickets

and climb up upon the rocks.

Every city shall be forsaken,

and not a man dwell in it.

30 (2Ki 9:30; La 1:2) When you are devastated, what will you do?

Though you clothe yourself with crimson,

though you deck yourself with ornaments of gold,

though you enlarge your eyes with paint,

in vain you will make yourself fair.

Your lovers will despise you;

they will seek your life.

31 (Isa 1:15; La 1:17) For I have heard a voice as of a woman in labor,

and the anguish as of her who brings forth her first child,

the voice of the daughter of Zion,

that bewails herself, that spreads her hands, saying,

"Ah, woe is me,

for my soul is wearied because of murderers."

Jeremiah 4

[1] If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if

thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not

remove.

[2] And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in

righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him

shall they glory.

[3] For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your

fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

[4] Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your

heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth

like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your

doings.

[5] Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the

trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves,

and let us go into the defenced cities.

[6] Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil

from the north, and a great destruction.

[7] The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles

is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate;

and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

[8] For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger

of the LORD is not turned back from us.

[9] And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of

the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall

be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

[10] Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this

people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword

reacheth unto the soul.

[11] At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry

wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people,

not to fan, nor to cleanse,

[12] Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I

give sentence against them.

[13] Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a

whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are

spoiled.

[14] O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be

saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

[15] For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount

Ephraim.

[16] Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that

watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the

cities of Judah.

[17] As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she

hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

[18] Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is

thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

[19] My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a

noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the

sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

[20] Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled:

suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.

[21] How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

[22] For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish

children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to

do good they have no knowledge.

[23] I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the

heavens, and they had no light.

[24] I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved

lightly.

[25] I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens

were fled.

[26] I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the

cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his

fierce anger.

[27] For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will

I not make a full end.

[28] For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because

I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I

turn back from it.

[29] The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen;

they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall

be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.

[30] And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest

thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold,

though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself

fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

[31] For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as

of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of

Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me

now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

Jeremiah 5

The Justice of God's Judgment

1 (2Ch 16:9; Eze 22:30) Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem,

see now and know;

seek in the open places

if you can find a man,

if there is any who executes justice, who seeks the truth,

that I may pardon her.

2 (Titus 1:16; Isa 48:1) Though they say, "The Lord lives,"

surely they swear falsely.

3 (Jer 2:30; 2Ch 16:9) O Lord, are not Your eyes upon the truth?

You have stricken them, but they have not grieved.

You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction.

They have made their faces harder than a rock;

they have refused to return.

4 (Jer 8:7; Isa 27:11) Therefore I said, "Surely these are the poor.

They are foolish;

for they know not the way of the Lord

or the judgment of their God.

5 (Jer 2:20) I will go to the great men

and will speak to them,

for they have known the way of the Lord

and the judgment of their God."

But these have altogether broken the yoke

and burst the bonds.

6 (Jer 4:7; Hab 1:8) Therefore a lion out of the forest will slay them,

and a wolf from the deserts will destroy them;

a leopard will watch over their cities.

Everyone who goes out from there will be torn in pieces,

because their transgressions are many

and their backslidings have increased.

7 (Dt 32:21; Jos 23:7) How shall I pardon you for this?

Your children have forsaken Me

and sworn by those who are not gods.

When I had fed them to the full,

then they committed adultery

and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.

8 (Jer 13:27; Eze 22:11) They were as fed horses in the morning;

everyone neighed after his neighbour's wife.

9 (Jer 9:9; 5:29) Shall I not punish for these things? says the Lord,

and shall not My soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

10 (Jer 4:27; 39:8) Go up upon her walls and destroy,

but make not a full end.

Take away her battlements.

For they are not the Lord’s.

11 (Jer 3:20) For the house of Israel and the house of Judah

have dealt very treacherously againstMe,

says the Lord.

12 (2Ch 36:16; Jer 43:2-3) They have lied about the Lord,

and said, "Not He.

Neither shall evil come upon us,

nor shall we see sword or famine."

13 (Jer 14:15; Job 8:2) And the prophets shall become wind,

and the word is not in them.

Thus it shall be done to them!

14 (Jer 1:9; 23:29) Therefore thus says the Lord God of Hosts:

Because you speak this word,

indeed I will make My words in your mouth fire

and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

15 (Dt 28:49; Isa 5:26) Truly, I will bring a nation upon you from far,

O house of Israel, says the Lord.

It is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation,

a nation whose language you do not know,

nor do you understand what they say.

16 (Ps 5:9; Isa 5:28) Their quiver is as an open sepulcher,

they all are mighty men.

17 (Lev 26:16; Dt 28:33) They will eat up your harvest and your bread

which your sons and your daughters should eat.

They will eat up your flocks and your herds;

they will eat up your vines and your fig trees;

they will impoverish your fenced cities,

in which you trusted, with the sword.

18 (Jer 4:27; 5:10) Nevertheless in those days, says the Lord,

I will not make a full end of you.

19 (1Ki 9:8-9; Jer 13:22) It shall come to pass when they say,

"Why does the Lord our God do all these things to us?"

then you shall answer them, "As you have forsaken Me

and served strange gods in your land, so you will serve

strangers in a land that is not yours."

Jeremiah 5

[1] Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and

know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there

be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

[2] And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

[3] O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but

they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to

receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have

refused to return.

[4] Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know

not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

[5] I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they

have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these

have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

[6] Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the

evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every

one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their

transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

[7] How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and

sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then

committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

[8] They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his

neighbour's wife.

[9] Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my

soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

[10] Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take

away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.

[11] For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very

treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

[12] They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil

come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

[13] And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus

shall it be done unto them.

[14] Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word,

behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it

shall devour them.

[15] Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith

the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose

language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

[16] Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

[17] And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and

thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they

shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced

cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

[18] Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end

with you.

[19] And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD

our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye

have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve

strangers in a land that is not yours.

Entitled When the Whole World Sings

Revelation 5:8-14

8 (Ps 141:2; Rev 4:10) When He had taken the scroll, the four living

creatures and the 24 elders fell down before the Lamb,

each one having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense,

which are the prayers of saints.

9 (Rev 14:6; Ps 33:3; 40:3) And they sang a new song, saying:

"You are worthy to take the scroll,

and to open its seals;

for You were slain,

and have redeemed us to God by Your blood

out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,

10 (Rev 1:6; 20:6) and have made us kings and priests unto our God;

and we shall reign on the earth."

11 (Da 7:10; Heb 12:22) Then I looked, and I heard around the throne

and the living creatures and the elders the voices of many angels,

numbering ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands,

(That is a huge number of souls/believers!)

12 (Rev 4:11; Zec 13:7) saying with a loud voice:

"Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength

and honor and glory and blessing!"

13 (Php 2:10; Rev 5:3) Then I heard every creature which is in heaven

and on the earth and under the earth and in the sea,

and all that are in them, saying:

"To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be blessing and honor and glory and power,

forever and ever!"

14 (Rev 19:4; 5:8) The four living creatures said, "Amen."

[8] And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty

elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden

vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

[9] And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and

to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God

by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

[10] And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on

the earth.

[11] And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the

throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten

thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

[12] Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive

power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and

blessing.

[13] And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the

earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying,

Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon

the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

[14] And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell

down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

A commercial jingle of the 1970s inspired a generation. Created as part of

Coca Cola's "The Real Thing" ad campaign, a British group called The New

Seekers eventually sang it as a full-length song that climbed to the top of

music charts around the world. But many will never forget the original

television version sung by young people on a hilltop outside of Rome.

Whimsical as it was, with visions of honeybees and fruit trees, we resonated

with a songwriter's desire to teach the world to sing with the heart

and harmony of love.

The apostle John describes something like that idealized dream, only vastly

greater. He envisioned a song sung by "every creature in heaven and on earth

and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them"

(Revelation 5:13). There's nothing whimsical about this anthem. Nothing could

be more realistic than the price paid by the One to whom this song is sung.

Neither could there be anything more foreboding than the visions of war,

death, and consequence that His sacrifice of love would have to overcome.

Yet this is what it took for the Lamb of God to bear our sin and defeat death,

overcome our fear of death, and teach all heaven and earth to sing-in perfect

harmony.

By: Mart DeHaan

Reflect & Pray

What gives you cause to sing? What happens to your heart and mind when you

embrace John's vision of every created being singing in united praise

of the Lamb and His love?

Father in heaven, please help me to sense the wonder

of what You've done to give me a song that can be sung

in joy by everyone and every living creature.

Week 5 Rejoice in Grace - Day 5 Called by Name

Isaiah 43:1

1 But now, thus says the Lord

who created you, O Jacob,

and He who formed you, O Israel:

Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by your name; you are Mine.

1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob,

and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not:

for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name;

thou art mine.

Eric, age 4, somehow lost his mother in a large and busy department store.

Found sobbing under a coat rack, the boy tried to tell the security guard

where he was when he got separated from his mother. Finally the guard said,

"what's your name, Son? Who do you belong to?"

The child brightened a bit, gave the guard his name, and within minutes

the frantic mother was reunited with her lost son.

One of the first questions we are asked, both as children and adults, is

"What is your name?" - that is, "Who are you? Who do you belong to?"

Children bear the name of their parents, and most women,

except for professional reasons,

take the name of their husbands when they marry.

Our names are our primary method of identification;

they connect us with our heritage and those we love.

In Isaiah 43:1, God declares that we belong to him.

The Lord who created us and formed us says,

"I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine." God's

right of ownership in our lives extends beyond the bond of family and friends,

of parent, child, or spouse. We belong first to him;

we are called by him into oneness with him.

The Scripture is filled with images of the Lord's care for us;

when we are lost, he does

not wait for us to find him,

but takes the initiative, like a loving parent

to seek us out. That declaration of belonging can give us

a strong sense of security in our lives. God loves us;

he will never let us go.

Application

a) What experiences have I had of being lost of abandoned?

b) How can today's verse help me find security in belonging to God?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

Philip 4:19

19 (Ro 2:4) But my God shall supply your every need according

to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

19 But my God shall supply all your need according

to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

God's Reconciling Peace

Ps 85:8-13

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) I will hear what God the Lord will speak,

for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints,

but let them not turn again to folly.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) Surely His salvation is near to them who fear Him,

that glory may dwell in our land.

10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) Mercy and truth have met together;

righteousness and peace have kissed.

11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) Truth springs from the ground,

and righteousness looks down from the sky.

12 Yes, the Lord gives that which is good,

and our land shall yield its increase.

13 Righteousness shall go before Him

and prepare a way for His footsteps.

8 I will hear what God the LORD will speak:

For he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints:

But let them not turn again to folly.

9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him;

That glory may dwell in our land.

10 Mercy and truth are met together;

Righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

11 Truth shall spring out of the earth;

And righteousness shall look down from heaven.

12 Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good;

And our land shall yield her increase.

13 Righteousness shall go before him;

And shall set us in the way of his steps.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

Footnotes

Acts 2:21 Joel 2:28-32.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

And

Thank you for praying through the

5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.

Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the

love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.

One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by

light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.

As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and

confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution

to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.

Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father

to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.

I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.

God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through

the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom

and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."

13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,

through the power of the Holy Spirit.

[13] Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
