Day 193 of the 2nd Bible Study Journey - 12 July 2022 reflections

Day 193, 12 July 2022

1) Psalms 128-130,132,134,135

Psalms 128

A Song of Ascents.

1 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) For you shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands;

you will be happy, and it shall be well with you.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine

in your house, your children like olive shoots around your table.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) Behold, this man shall be blessed who fears the Lord.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) The Lord shall bless you from Zion,

and may you see the welfare of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Indeed, may you see your children’s children.

Peace upon Israel!

Psalm 128

A Song of degrees.

[1] Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; That walketh in his ways.

[2] For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands:

Happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

[3] Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house:

Thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

[4] Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

[5] The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion:

And thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

[6]Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, And peace upon Israel.

Psalms 129

A Song of Ascents.

1 "Often they have afflicted me from my youth," may Israel now say,

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) "often they have afflicted me from my youth,

yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) The plowmen plowed upon my back;

they made their furrows long."

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) The Lord is righteous;

He has cut the cords of the wicked.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) Let all those be shamed and turned back who hate Zion.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Let them be as the grass on the housetops,

which withers before it even grows,

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) where the reaper is unable to fill his hand,

or he who binds sheaves, his arms.

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) Neither do they who pass by say,

"The blessing of the Lord be upon you; we bless you in the name of the Lord!"

Psalm 129

A Song of degrees.

[1] Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, May Israel now say:

[2] Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth:

Yet they have not prevailed against me.

[3] The plowers plowed upon my back: They made long their furrows.

[4] The LORD is righteous: He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

[5] Let them all be confounded and turned back That hate Zion.

[6] Let them be as the grass upon the housetops,

Which withereth afore it groweth up:

[7] Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand;

Nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

[8] Neither do they which go by say, the blessing of the LORD be upon you:

We bless you in the name of the LORD.

Psalms 130

A Song of Ascents.

1 From the depths I call on You, O Lord!

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) O Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive

to the sound of my supplications.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) If you, O Lord, should keep track of iniquities,

O Lord, who shall stand?

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) For there is forgiveness with You,

that You may be feared.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) I wait for the Lord, with bated breath I wait;

I long for His Word!

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) My soul waits for the Lord,

more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) Let Israel wait for the Lord!

For mercy is found with the Lord; with Him is great redemption.

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) He shall redeem Israel from all their iniquities.

Psalm 130

A Song of degrees.

[1] Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD.

[2] Lord, hear my voice: Let thine ears be attentive

To the voice of my supplications.

[3] If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

[4] But there is forgiveness with thee, That thou mayest be feared.

[5] I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, And in his word do I hope.

[6] My soul waiteth for the Lord More than they that watch for the morning:

I say, more than they that watch for the morning.

[7] Let Israel hope in the LORD: For with the LORD there is mercy,

And with him is plenteous redemption.

[8] And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Psalms 132

2Ch 6:41–42

A Song of Ascents.

1 O Lord, remember David and all his afflictions,

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) how he swore unto the Lord,

and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob:

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) "I will not come into my house, nor go up to my bed;

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 )I will not give sleep to my eyes,

or slumber to my eyelids,

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) until I find a place for the Lord,

a dwelling for the mighty God of Jacob."

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) We heard of it in Ephrathah;

we found it in the fields of Jaar.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) "We will go to His dwelling place,

we will worship at His footstool."

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) Arise, O Lord, go to Your resting place,

You and the ark of Your strength.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness,

and let Your godly ones shout for joy.

10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) For Your servant David's sake,

do not turn away Your anointed king.

11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) The Lord has sworn with a sure oath to David

that He will not turn from it:

"From the fruit of your body I will set a son on your throne.

12 If your children will keep My covenant

and My testimonies that I shall teach them, then their children shall also sit

upon your throne forever."

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling:

14 "This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have chosen it.

15 I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread.

16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation,

and her godly ones shall shout for joy.

17 "There I will make a horn sprout for David;

I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.

18 His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine."

Psalms 132

[1] LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:

[2] How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;

[3] Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into

my bed;

[4] I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,

[5] Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God

of Jacob.

[6] Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.

[7] We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.

[8] Arise, O LORD, into thy rest; thou, and the ark of thy strength.

[9] Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout

for joy.

[10] For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed.

[11] The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of

the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.

[12] If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall

teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.

[13] For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.

[14] This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

[15] I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with

bread.

[16] I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall

shout aloud for joy.

[17] There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for

mine anointed.

[18] His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown

flourish.

Psalms 134

A Song of Ascents.

1 Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,

who by night stand in the house of the Lord.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) May the Lord who made heaven and earth bless you from Zion.

Psalms 134

[1] Behold, bless ye the LORD, all ye servants of the LORD, which by night

stand in the house of the LORD.

[2] Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.

[3] The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.

Psalms 135

Ps 115:4-11

1 Praise the Lord!

Praise the name of the Lord praise Him, O servants of the Lord,

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) you who stand in the house of the Lord,

in the courts of the house of our God!

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;

sing praises unto His name, for it is pleasant.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) For the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself,

and Israel for His special possession.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) For I know that the Lord is great,

and that our Lord is above all gods.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Whatever the Lord pleases,

He does in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the depths.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) He causes the clouds to ascend from the ends

of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain;

He brings the wind out from His storehouses.

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) He struck down the firstborn of Egypt,

both of man and animal.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt,

against Pharaoh and all his servants;

10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) He struck down great nations and slew mighty kings-

11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) Sihon, king of the Amorites,

and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan-

12 and gave their land for an inheritance, a possession to Israel His people.

13 Your name, O Lord, endures forever;

and Your renown, O Lord, throughout all generations.

14 For the Lord will defend His people,

and He will have compassion on His servants.

15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

16 They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see;

17 they have ears, but do not hear;

neither is there any breath in their mouths.

18 Those who make them are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them.

19 Bless the Lord, O house of Israel; bless the Lord, O house of Aaron.

20 Bless the Lord, O house of Levi; you who fear the Lord, bless the Lord.

21 Blessed be the Lord from Zion, who dwells at Jerusalem.

Praise you the Lord!

Psalms 135

[1] Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye

servants of the LORD.

[2] Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of

our God,

[3] Praise the LORD; for the LORD is good: sing praises unto his name; for

it is pleasant.

[4] For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar

treasure.

[5] For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.

[6] Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the

seas, and all deep places.

[7] He causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh

lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries.

[8] Who smote the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and beast.

[9] Who sent tokens and wonders into the midst of thee, O Egypt, upon

Pharaoh, and upon all his servants.

[10] Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings;

[11] Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms

of Canaan:

[12] And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his

people.

[13] Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O LORD,

throughout all generations.

[14] For the LORD will judge his people, and he will repent himself

concerning his servants.

[15] The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

[16] They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;

[17] They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their

mouths.

[18] They that make them are like unto them: so is every one that trusteth

in them.

[19] Bless the LORD, O house of Israel: bless the LORD, O house of Aaron:

[20] Bless the LORD, O house of Levi: ye that fear the LORD, bless the LORD.

[21] Blessed be the LORD out of Zion, which dwelleth at Jerusalem. Praise ye

the LORD.

Entitled A Teachable Spirit

Proverbs 1:1-7

Proverbs 1

The Purpose and Theme

1 (Pr 10:1; 25:1) The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:

2 To know wisdom and instruction,

to perceive the words of understanding,

3 to receive the instruction of wisdom,

justice, judgment, and equity;

4 (Pr 8:5) to give subtlety to the simple,

to the young man knowledge and discretion -

5 (Pr 9:9) a wise man will hear and will increase learning,

and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,

6 (Ps 78:2; 49:4) to understand a proverb and the interpretation,

the words of the wise and their riddles.

7 (Pr 9:10; Job 28:28; Ecc 12:13 ) The fear of the Lord

is the beginning of knowledge,

but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

1 Corinthians 11

1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;

2 To know wisdom and instruction;

To perceive the words of understanding;

3 To receive the instruction of wisdom,

Justice, and judgment, and equity;

4 To give subtilty to the simple,

To the young man knowledge and discretion.

5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning;

And a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation;

The words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge:

But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father,

It has become sadly "normal" to attack not only the opinions of others but

also the person holding the opinion. This can be true in academic circles

as well. For this reason, I was stunned when scholar and theologian

Richard B. Hays wrote a paper that forcefully took to task a work that

he himself had written years earlier! In Reading with the Grain of Scripture,

Hays demonstrated great humility of heart as he corrected his own past

thinking, now fine-tuned by his lifelong commitment to learning.

As the book of Proverbs was being introduced, King Solomon listed the various

intents of this collection of wise sayings. But in the midst of those

purposes, he inserted this challenge, "Let the wise listen and add to their

learning, and let the discerning get guidance" (Proverbs 1:5). Like the

apostle Paul, who claimed that, even after following Christ for decades,

he continued to pursue knowing Jesus (Philippians 3:10),

Solomon urged the wise to listen, to learn, and to continue to grow.

No one is ever hurt by maintaining a teachable spirit. As we seek to continue

to grow and learn about the things of faith (and the things of life), may we

allow the Holy Spirit to guide us into truth (John 16:13), that we might

better comprehend the wonders of our good and great God.

Reflect & Pray

In what areas of life or spiritual growth have you become stale or stunted?

How can you become more teachable, allowing God to grow you beyond

where you are at this moment?

Loving God, give me a humble, teachable spirit

that I might continually be growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus.

Words in Season - Scripture Memory Tools

Week 3 - Saved Now and Forever - Day 3 - Inseparable From God's Love

Romans 8:38-39

38 (Eph 1:21; 1Pe 3:22) For I am persuaded that neither death nor life,

neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present

nor things to come,

39 (Ro 5:8) neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing,

shall be able to separate us from the love of God,

which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

[38] For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor

principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

[39] Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to

separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Separation is a fact of human life. Relationships disintegrate,

children grow up, loved ones die, husbands and wives divorce,

friends changes and drift apart. We may resist change and separation,

but we must deal with them nevertheless.

Separation sometimes is a natural result of growth and development;

sometimes it is a violent, cataclysmic shaking of an individual's life.

2 lifelong friends go separate ways to college or into future careers;

a church splits over doctrinal differences; a wife finds out a hidden

secret in her husband's past.

But with God, there is no separation, no death, no breaking of vows,

no growing beyond the relationship. Nothing, says Paul, can separate

us from the love of God. A skeleton in my closet, once revealed, may

cost me the trust of those I thought were my friends. But God knows

all my past, all my sin; he forgives, and it cannot separate me from him.

My present personal struggles may cause trouble in my job and result in

the loss of that income, but God understands what I'm going through,

and even when I'm angry at him, he can take it without drawing away

or striking back. My present problems cannot separate me from the Lord.

And God knows, too, the plan he has established for my future. I cannot

walk away from him, grow beyond my need for him, or outrun him into

tomorrow.

She may separate me from my awareness of God's presence in my life,

but it cannot set me beyond his reach. There is no power that is greater

than God's love, and no place I can go that will separate me

from that love.

Application

a) Have I ever felt separated from the love of God? Under what circumstances?

b) How can today's verse free me from anxiety about the past,

the present or the future?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

Hebr 11:6

6 (1Ch 28:9; Jer 29:13-14) And without faith it is impossible to please God,

for he who comes to God must believe that He exists

and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh

to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them

that diligently seek him.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

When you are Burdened by Doubt

Matt 7:7-11

Ask, Seek, Knock

Lk 11:9-13

7(Mt 21:22; Mk 11:24) "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;

knock and it will be opened to you.

8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds,

and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

9 "What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread,

will give him a stone?

10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a snake?

11 (Ge 6:5; 8:21) If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts

to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give

good things to those who ask Him!

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock,

and it shall be opened unto you:

8 for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth;

and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread,

will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children,

how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things

to them that ask him?

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

9 After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

Footnotes

Acts 2:21 Joel 2:28-32.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

And

Thank you for praying through the

5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.

Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the

love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.

One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by

light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.

As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and

confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution

to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.

Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.

Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father

to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.

I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.

God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through

the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom

and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."

13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,

through the power of the Holy Spirit.

[13] Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
