Psalms 1–41
1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor stands in the path of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

and in His law he meditates day and night.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) He will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that brings forth its fruit in its season;
its leaf will not wither,
and whatever he does will prosper.

the Lord ridicules them.

Psalms 10
1 Why do You stand far off, O Lord?
Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) In arrogance the wicked persecutes the poor;
let them be caught in the devices they have planned.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) For the wicked boasts of his soul's desire;
he blesses the greedy and despises the Lord.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) The wicked, through the pride of his countenance,
will not seek God; God is not in all his thoughts.
5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) His ways are always prosperous;
Your judgments are high and distant from him;
as for all his enemies, they scoff at him.
6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) He says in his heart, "I shall not be moved;
for generations I shall not meet adversity."

so that the unfortunate fall by his strength.

He hides His face; He will never see it."
12 Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand!
Do not forget the humble.
13 Why do the wicked despise God? He says in his heart,
"You will require an account."
14 You have seen it, for You observe trouble and grief,
to repay it with Your hand. The unfortunate one entrusts it to You;
You are the helper of the orphan.
15 Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man;
seek out his wickedness until You find none.
16 The Lord is King forever and ever; the nations perished from His land.
17 The desire of the humble You have heard, O Lord;
You make their heart attentive; You bend Your ear
18 to judge the orphan and the oppressed; man on earth no longer trembles.

Commemorations of the seventy-fifth anniversary of D-Day in 2019 honoured
the more than 156,000 troops who took part in the largest seaborne invasion
in history to liberate Western Europe. In his prayer broadcast over the radio
on June 6, 1944, President Roosevelt asked for God's protection, praying,
"They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest.
They fight to liberate."
A willingness to put one's self in harm's way to restrain evil and liberate
the oppressed brings to mind Jesus' words: "Greater love has no one than this:
to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13). These words come in
the midst of Christ teaching His followers to love each other. But He wanted
them to understand the cost and depth of this type of love: a love
exemplified when one willingly sacrifices his or her life for another person.
Jesus' call to sacrificially love others is the basis of His command to
"love each other" (v. 17).
Perhaps we could show sacrificial love by giving time to care for the needs of
an aging family member. We could put the needs of a sibling first by doing
their chores during a stressful week at school. We might even take extra
shifts with a sick child to allow our spouse to sleep. As we sacrificially
love others, we demonstrate the greatest expression of love.

Romans 6:23

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

Canada is a land of immigrants. And Muslims are coming in increasing numbers
to our shores. Where do they live? How can we prayfor these areas? Use this as
your more effectively for Muslims in Canada.

Household Survay and population growth projections by Pew Forum. These have
also been adjusted by +40% as reliable sources state that on 60% of Muslims
self-identify on government surveys and forms. These estimates are still on

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

in history to liberate Western Europe. In his prayer broadcast over the radio
on June 6, 1944, President Roosevelt asked for God's protection, praying,
"They fight not for the lust of conquest. They fight to end conquest.
They fight to liberate."
A willingness to put one's self in harm's way to restrain evil and liberate
the oppressed brings to mind Jesus' words: "Greater love has no one than this:
to lay down one's life for one's friends" (John 15:13). These words come in
the midst of Christ teaching His followers to love each other. But He wanted
them to understand the cost and depth of this type of love: a love
exemplified when one willingly sacrifices his or her life for another person.
Jesus' call to sacrificially love others is the basis of His command to
"love each other" (v. 17).
Perhaps we could show sacrificial love by giving time to care for the needs of
an aging family member. We could put the needs of a sibling first by doing
their chores during a stressful week at school. We might even take extra
shifts with a sick child to allow our spouse to sleep. As we sacrificially
love others, we demonstrate the greatest expression of love.

Romans 6:23

"I only want my rights," declares the belligerent Big Ghost, one of the
characters in C. S. Lewis's classic, The Great Divorce. "I'm not asking
for anybody's bleeding charity."
"Then do. At once," his angelic friend Len urges. "Ask for the Bleeding
Charity. Everything is here for the asking and nothing can be bought."
Often we are much like the Ghost in Lewis's tale of heaven and hell.
We want "What we deserve," and being blind to our own sin, we think
we deserve praise, or al least mercy. But Paul is very clear on what
we have coming: "The wages of sin is death".
We work for our wages - we've earned our paycheque, and we deserve it.
We don't have to thank anyone for paying us - it's our due, not a gift.
Similarly, the paycheque issued to us in renumeration for our sin is
what we deserve: death.
Yet, if we are willing to lay aside our pride and accept God's gift,
we can live. "The gift of God is eternal life." Nothing we can do or say
can make us worthy of the gift of life. We are sinners by nature and we
rebel against God in our choices. Yet God, in Christ, offers grace to us,
freedom from sin, liberty from the burden of trying to earn his favour.
Ironically, freedom and peace in the Christian life come not through
justifying ourselves and making ourselves look good, but through
acknowledging the depth of our sin ad our ability to do anything about it.
When we realise that we are trapped in out sinful selves and only
Christ can free us, then we are ready to journey toward grace and freedom.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
