God's Covenant With David
1Ch 17:1-15
1 Now when the king settled into his house
and the Lord had given him rest from all
of his enemies on all sides,
2 (2Sa 5:11; 12:1) the king said to Nathan the prophet,
"I am dwelling in a cedar house, but the ark of God is sitting in a tent."
3 (1Ki 8:17-18; 1Ch 22:7) Nathan said to the king,
"Go, do all that is in your heart because the Lord is with you."
4 That night the word of the Lord came to Nathan:
5 Go and say to My servant David: Thus says the Lord:
Do you intend to build a house for Me in which I will dwell?
6 (1Ki 8:16; Ex 40:18-19) I have not dwelt in a house since the day
I brought the sons of Israel from Egypt until this day.
I have been moving about with a tent as My dwelling.
7 (Lev 26:11-12; 2Sa 5:2) Wherever I have moved with all the sons of Israel,
have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel,
whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying,
"Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?"
8 (2Sa 6:21; 1Sa 16:11-12) Now therefore, you will say to My servant
David: Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I took you from the pasture,
from following after the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel.
9 (2Sa 5:10; 1Ch 17:8) I have been with you wherever you have gone,
and I have cut off all of your enemies before you.
I will make your name great, like the great ones across the land.
10 (Ps 89:22-23; Isa 60:18) Moreover, I will appoint a place
for My people Israel. I will plant them, and they will dwell
in that very place. They will be restless no longer,
and the unjust will no longer oppress them, as in former times,
11 (1Sa 12:9-11; 2Sa 7:1) ever since the day in which I appointed judges
over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all of your enemies.
The Lord declares to you that He will instead bring about a house for you.
12 (1Ki 8:20; 2:1; Dt 31:16) When your days are complete and you lie down
with your fathers, I will raise up after you an offspring from your body,
and I will establish his rule.
13 (1Ki 8:19; 5:5) He will build a house for My name,
and I will establish his royal throne forever.
14 (Heb 1:5; 1Ch 17:13) I will be a father to him,
and he will be a son to Me. When he goes astray,
I will correct him with the rod of men and afflictions of the sons of men.
15 (1Sa 15:23; 15:28) My commitment will not abandon him, as I removed
it from Saul, whom I deposed before you.
16 (2Sa 7:13; Ps 89:36-37) Your house and dominion will endure before
Me forever, and your throne will be established by the Lord forever.
17 So Nathan spoke to David in accordance with all of these words
and the entirety of this vision.
2 Samuel 7
[1] And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had
given him rest round about from all his enemies;
[2] That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house
of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.
[3] And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the
LORD is with thee.
[4] And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto
Nathan, saying,
[5] Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me
an house for me to dwell in?
[6] Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up
the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a
tent and in a tabernacle.
[7] In all the places wherein I have walked with all the children of Israel
spake I a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my
people Israel, saying, Why build ye not me an house of cedar?
[8] Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the
LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to
be ruler over my people, over Israel:
[9] And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all
thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto
the name of the great men that are in the earth.
[10] Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant
them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither
shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
[11] And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people
Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD
telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
[12] And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers,
I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels,
and I will establish his kingdom.
[13] He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of
his kingdom for ever.
[14] I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I
will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children
of men:
[15] But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul,
whom I put away before thee.
[16] And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before
thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
[17] According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did
Nathan speak unto David.

The Davidic Covenant
2Sa 7:1-17
1 (1Ch 15:1; 17:5) Now it happened as David dwelt in his house
that he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am dwelling in a house of cedar
while the ark of the Lord is under curtains."
2 So Nathan said to David,
"Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you."
3 But it happened on that same night that the word of the Lord came
to Nathan, saying,
4 (1Ch 28:2-3) Go and tell David My servant: Thus says the Lord:
You will not build a house for Me to dwell in,
52 (Sa 7:6; Ex 40:2-3) for I have not dwelt in a house since the day
when I brought Israel up even until this day, but I have gone from
tent to tent and from tabernacle to tabernacle.
6 (2Sa 7:7) Wherever I have gone in all Israel, have I ever spoken
a word to the any of the judges of Israel that I commanded
to shepherd My people, saying, Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?
7 (2Sa 6:21) And now say this to My servant David:
Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I took you from the pasture,
from following after the flock, to be ruler over My people Israel,
8 and I have been with you wherever you went,
and I have cut off all your enemies from before you.
Also I will make your name like the names of the greatest on earth.
9 And I will appoint a place for My people Israel,
and I will plant them there where they will dwell securely
and tremble no more, so that the sons of wickedness will not oppress
them just as before
10 (2Sa 7:11) from the time when I commanded the judges
of My people Israel. I will subdue all your enemies.
And I declare to you the Lord will build a house for you.
11 (Ps 132:11) Then it will be when your days are full
and you go to your fathers, I will raise up your seed after you
from your own sons. His kingdom I will establish.
12 (1Ki 5:5; Isa 9:7) He is the one who will build Me a house,
and I will establish his throne forever.
13 (Heb 1:5; 1Sa 15:28) I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me.
I will not take away My favor from him as I did from
the one who was before you.
14 I will assign him a place in My house and in My kingdom forever,
and his throne will be established for all time.
15 Thus, Nathan spoke to David all these words
and according to all this vision.

The House of the Lord
1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said
to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars,
but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.
2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart;
for God is with thee.
3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came
to Nathan, saying,
4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me
an house to dwell in:
5 for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel
unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle
to another.
6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the
judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye
not built me an house of cedars?
7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith
the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following
the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
8 and I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut
off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like
the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them,
and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither
shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
10 and since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel.
Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that
the LORD will build thee an house.
11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must
go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee,
which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take
my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14 but I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever:
and his throne shall be established for evermore.
15 According to all these words, and according to all this vision,
so did Nathan speak unto David.
2 SAMUEL 7
The Prayer of David
1Ch 17:16-27
18 (Ex 3:11; 1Sa 18:18) Then King David went in and sat before the Lord.
He said, "Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house that
You have brought me this far?
19 (1Ch 17:17; Isa 55:8-9) Yet this was comparatively insignificant
in Your sight, Lord God, for You have also spoken about Your servant's
house into the distant future. Is this Your manner with man, Lord God?
20 (1Sa 16:7; Jn 21:17) "What more can David say to You?
You know Your servant, Lord God.
21 Because of Your word, according to Your will, You have done
all of this greatness to inform Your servant.
22 (Ex 15:11; Dt 3:24) "Therefore You are great, Lord God. There is none
like You, and there is no God except You, according to everything that
we have heard with our ears.
23 (Dt 9:26; 10:21) And who is like Your people, like Israel-a single nation
in the land, whom God went to redeem as a people for Himself,
making a name for Himself by doing great and awesome things for Your land,
before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt,
a nation and its gods.
24 (Dt 26:18; Ge 17:7) You established Your people Israel as Your own people
forever, and You, Lord, became their God.
25 "Now, Lord God, confirm forever the word that You spoke regarding
Your servant and his house and do as You have spoken.
26 (1Ch 17:23-24; Ps 72:18-19) May Your name be magnified forever
by saying, 'The Lord of Hosts is God over Israel,' and may the house
of Your servant David be established before You.
27 "For You, O Lord of Hosts, God of Israel, have revealed a word
to Your servant, saying, 'I will build you a house.' Therefore,
Your servant has found the courage to pray this prayer to You.
28 (Jn 17:17) Now, Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true.
You have spoken this good message to Your servant.
29 (Nu 6:24-26; 2Sa 22:51) Now, be resolved and bless Your servant's
dynastic house, so that it may stand before You forever.
You, Lord God, have spoken, and with Your blessing,
the house of Your servant will be blessed forever."
2 Samuel 7
[16] And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before
thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
[17] According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did
Nathan speak unto David.
[18] Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am
I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?
[19] And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast
spoken also of thy servant's house for a great while to come. And is this
the manner of man, O Lord GOD?
[20] And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy
servant.
[21] For thy word's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done
all these great things, to make thy servant know them.
[22] Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee,
neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard
with our ears.
[23] And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel,
whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and
to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people,
which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
[24] For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be a people
unto thee for ever: and thou, LORD, art become their God.
[25] And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy
servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou
hast said.
[26] And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is
the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established
before thee.
[27] For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant,
saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his
heart to pray this prayer unto thee.
[28] And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou
hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:
[29] Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant,
that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken
it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

The Prayer of David
2Sa 7:18-29
16 (2Sa 7:18) Then King David came and sat before the Lord, and he said,
"Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me
this far?
17 This was something small in Your eyes, God, but You have spoken
concerning the house of Your servant for a great while to come
and have regarded me with the status of a great man, O Lord God.
18 "What more can David speak to You for the honor of Your servant?
For You know Your servant.
19 (Isa 37:35) O Lord, for the sake of Your servant and according
to Your own heart You have done all these great things
and made known all these great things.
20 (Ex 15:11; Isa 44:6) "O Lord, there is none like You, and there is no god
besides You as we have heard with our ears.
21 Who is like Your people Israel, a nation on earth whom God has redeemed
for Himself as a people to make for Yourself a great name by great and awesome
deeds in driving out nations from before Your people whom You redeemed
from Egypt?
22 (Ex 19:5-6) For You made Your people Israel for Yourself for a people
forever, and You, O Lord, have become their God.
23 "And now, Lord, the word which You have spoken concerning
Your servant and concerning his house, let it endure forever and do
just as You have spoken.
24 Let Your name endure and be magnified forever, saying,
"'The Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God to Israel.'
And let the house of David Your servant be established before You.
25 "For You, my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will
build a house for him. Therefore Your servant has found courage
to pray before You.
26 And now, O Lord, You are God, and You have promised this good
word to Your servant.
27 Now, You have been pleased to bless the house of Your servant
that it may be forever before You. For You, O Lord, have blessed it,
and it shall be blessed forever."

and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people,
whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
22 For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou,
LORD, becamest their God.
23 Therefore now, LORD, let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning
thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever,
and do as thou hast said.
24 Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever,
saying, The LORD of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel:
and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.
25 For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him
an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.
26 And now, LORD, thou art God, and hast promised
this goodness unto thy servant:
27 now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant,
that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O LORD,
and it shall be blessed for ever.

David's Victories
1Ch 18:1-13
1 (1Ch 18:1-17) Afterward, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them,
and David took Metheg Ammah from the hand of the Philistines.
2 (Nu 24:17; 2Sa 8:6) He also defeated Moab. He measured them with a length
of rope, forcing them to lie down on the ground. He measured two lengths
of rope to be put to death, but the entirety of one length he allowed
to live. So the Moabites became subject to David, bearing tribute.
3 (1Sa 14:47; 2Sa 10:16) David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob,
king of Zobah, when he went to restore his authority
over the River Euphrates.
4 (Jos 11:6; 11:9) David seized from him 1700 horsemen
and 20000 foot soldiers, and David hamstrung all of the chariot horses,
save those for 100 chariots.
5 (1Ki 11:23-25) The Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer
king of Zobah, but David defeated twenty-two thousand men of the Arameans.
6 (2Sa 8:14; 7:9) David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus; and the Arameans
became servants who bore tribute to David.
The Lord helped David wherever he went.
7 David took the shields of gold that were issued to the servants of Hadadezer
and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 (1Ch 18:8) From Betah [Or captains, or thirty. Cf. 1Ch 11:11.] and Berothai,
cities of Hadadezer, King David took great quantities of bronze.
9 (1Ki 8:65) When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire
army of Hadadezer,
10 Toi sent his son Joram to King David to greet him and bless him on account
of his fighting with Hadadezer and his defeat of him,
for Hadadezer was an opponent of Toi. Joram brought with him implements
of silver, gold, and bronze,
11 (1Ki 7:51) which King David dedicated to the Lord along with the silver
and gold that he dedicated from all of the nations that he had subdued,
12 (2Sa 10:14; 8:2) that is, from Aram,[About 25 pounds, or 12 kilograms.]
Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and the plunder
from Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
13 (2Ki 14:7; 2Sa 7:9) So David made a name for himself upon his return
from defeating eighteen thousand Arameans
[Possibly Edomites. Cf. 2Sa 8:14, 1Ch 18:11-13, LXX and Syriac mss.]
in the Valley of Salt.
14 (Ge 27:29; 25:23) He set up garrisons in Edom. Throughout all of Edom,
he set up garrisons, and all of Edom became subject to David.
The Lord helped David wherever he went.
2 Samuel 8
[1] And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and
subdued them: and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the
Philistines.
[2] And he smote Moab, and measured them with a line, casting them down to
the ground; even with two lines measured he to put to death, and with one
full line to keep alive. And so the Moabites became David's servants, and
brought gifts.
[3] David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went
to recover his border at the river Euphrates.
[4] And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen,
and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot horses, but
reserved of them for an hundred chariots.
[5] And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of
Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
[6] Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became
servants to David, and brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.
[7] And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of
Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
[8] And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took
exceeding much brass.
[9] When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of
Hadadezer,
[10] Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to
bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for
Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver,
and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:
[11] Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and
gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;
[12] Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the
Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob,
king of Zobah.
[13] And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians
in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men.
[14] And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and
all they of Edom became David's servants. And the LORD preserved David
whithersoever he went.

David's Conquests
2Sa 8:1-18
1 (2Sa 8:1-18) Now it happened after this that David attacked the Philistines
and subdued them, so he took Gath and its neighboring towns
from Philistine control.
2 He also defeated Moab so that the Moabites became servants to David
and brought tribute.
3 (2Sa 8:3) Next David struck down Hadadezer the king of Zobah toward
Hamath as he marched out to establish his authority along the Euphrates.
4 (2Sa 8:4) David captured from him one thousand chariots,
seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand infantry men.
Then David hamstrung all the chariot horses except for the
one hundred he spared.
5 (1Ch 19:6) When the Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer
king of Zobah, David struck down 22000 Arameans.
6 Then David set garrisons in Aram of Damascus; and Arameans
became subject to David, and brought tribute. The Lord gave victory to David
wherever he went.
7 So David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer,
and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 (2Sa 8:8; 2Ch 4:12-18) Also from Tibhath[Betah in 2Sa 8:8.] and Kun,
cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze;
with it Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and the vessels of bronze.
9 (2Sa 8:9) When Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated
all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
10 (2Sa 8:10) he sent his son Hadoram to King David to ask about his welfare
and to bless him because he fought and defeated Hadadezer
(for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou).
He sent all kinds of articles of gold, silver, and bronze.
11 King David also dedicated these to the Lord, together with the silver
and gold which he had carried away from all the surrounding nations,
from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.
12 (1Sa 26:6) Also Abishai the son of Zeruiah struck down 18000 men of Edom
in the Valley of Salt.
13 (1Ch 18:6) He set up garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became
servants to David. Wherever he went, the Lord gave David victory.

9 Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host
of Hadarezer king of Zobah;
10 he sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare,
and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer,
and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and with him all manner
of vessels of gold and silver and brass.
11 Them also king David dedicated unto the LORD, with the silver and the gold
that he brought from all these nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from
the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.
12 Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley
of salt eighteen thousand. 13And he put garrisons in Edom;
and all the Edomites became David's servants. Thus the LORD
preserved David whithersoever he went.
PSALMS 60
Ps 108:6-13
For the Music Director. A Miktam of David to teach.
To the melody of "Lily of the Testimony," when he struggled
with Aram Naharaim and with Aram Zobah and when Joab
returned from striking down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
1 O God, You have rejected us, You have scattered us;
You have been displeased; take us back.

Earth Day is an annual event observed on April 22. In recent years, more than
one billion people in about two hundred countries have taken part in
educational and service activities. Each year, Earth Day is a reminder of the
importance of caring for our amazing planet. But the mandate to care for the
environment is far older than this annual event—it goes all the way back to
creation.
In Genesis, we learn that God created the entire universe and formed
the earth as a place for humans to dwell. Not only did He fashion the mountain
peaks and lush plains, God also created the garden of Eden, a beautiful place
providing food, shelter, and beauty for its inhabitants (Genesis 2:8-9).
After breathing life into His most important creation, humans, God placed
them in this garden (vv. 8, 22) and gave them the responsibility "to work it
and take care of it" (v. 15). After Adam and Eve were expelled from
the garden, caring for God's creation became more difficult (3:17-19),
but to this day God Himself cares for our planet
and its creatures (Psalm 65:9-13) and asks us to do the same (Proverbs 12:10).
Whether we live in crowded cities or rural areas, we all have ways we can care
for the areas God has entrusted to us. And as we tend the earth, may it be an
act of gratitude to Him for this beautiful planet.

"I was so humble I was given an award for humility," the pastor quipped.

Humility is rare among 20th Century Christians. Our pride takes two
seemingly contradictory forms: Self-exaltation and self-denial. But both
focus on self, not on God.
Francois Fenelon, 17th century French archbishop, From his
"Letters of Spiritual Counsel" wrote:
"He who so completely forget himself that he never thinks of self ... is
truly humble. If we had the light to discern it, we should see clearly that
when we think we are humbling ourselves we are exalting ourselves;
when we think we are annihilating ourselves we are seeking out own life."
True humility, as Fenelon implies, means recognising who we are in the light
of who God is. Excess of self-importance and low self-esteem are both
self-centered perspectives; true humility is God-centered.
When we humble ourselves, we become intensely aware of God and less
aware of ourselves. We can focus on his face and get our eyes off our own
image. We can stop worrying about how others perceive us. Such humbling
is difficult - as one 70-year-old saint joked, "It ain't the heat that gets
you, it's the humility." But when we submit to him and fell the weight of the
"Mighty hand of God" upon us, we can forget ourselves, abandon
ourselves to his presence, and cast our cares upon him.

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim

Dreams and Visions Reach the Fuuta Tooro
Africa's Fuuta Tooro people live along the Senegalese River: one million
in Northern Senegal; and about 250,000 in South Mauritania.
Less than 0.1 percent of them are Christian.
Many have tried to share God’s story among the Fulani, but Sufi Islam has long
retained its hold on this particular subgroup. But now, dreams and visions are
reaching them, as they attest on social media, revealing how Jesus is at work
in them.
"I have been a follower of Jesus for 29 years," says a Fulani woman named
Amina. "I had a dream where I saw this figure in glowing white. He had his arms
wrapped around the world. When I saw him, I began crying and asking him to
forgive me, and He did. As I walked away, I heard another voice say,
'Do you know who you were talking to?' I said no. The voice replied,
'You were talking to Jesus.' I believed in Jesus and followed Him."
A woman named Fatou said, "I know Jesus is my Lord and Saviour,
and I want to connect with other Fulani who follow Jesus."
A Fulani man named Mamadou said,
"God is guiding me to share His story with a nearby village."
God has touched Fulani through dreams and visions
and calls them to reach out to other Fulani.
Pray that God will raise up more Fulani labourers
to reach their own people for Christ.
May more Fuuta Tooro have dreams and visions of Jesus
that lead them to share God's story.
May Fulani women rise up with boldness when God calls
out to them to follow Jesus.

1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said
to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars,
but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.
2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart;
for God is with thee.

to Nathan, saying,
4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me
an house to dwell in:
5 for I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel
unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle
to another.
6 Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the
judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye
not built me an house of cedars?
7 Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith
the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following
the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:
8 and I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut
off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like
the name of the great men that are in the earth.
9 Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them,
and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither
shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,
10 and since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel.
Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that
the LORD will build thee an house.
11 And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must
go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee,
which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
12 He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.
13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take
my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:
14 but I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever:

The Prayer of David
1Ch 17:16-27
18 (Ex 3:11; 1Sa 18:18) Then King David went in and sat before the Lord.
He said, "Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house that
You have brought me this far?
19 (1Ch 17:17; Isa 55:8-9) Yet this was comparatively insignificant
in Your sight, Lord God, for You have also spoken about Your servant's
house into the distant future. Is this Your manner with man, Lord God?
20 (1Sa 16:7; Jn 21:17) "What more can David say to You?
You know Your servant, Lord God.
21 Because of Your word, according to Your will, You have done

concerning the house of Your servant for a great while to come
and have regarded me with the status of a great man, O Lord God.

David's Victories
1Ch 18:1-13
1 (1Ch 18:1-17) Afterward, David defeated the Philistines and subdued them,
and David took Metheg Ammah from the hand of the Philistines.
2 (Nu 24:17; 2Sa 8:6) He also defeated Moab. He measured them with a length
of rope, forcing them to lie down on the ground. He measured two lengths
of rope to be put to death, but the entirety of one length he allowed
to live. So the Moabites became subject to David, bearing tribute.
3 (1Sa 14:47; 2Sa 10:16) David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob,
king of Zobah, when he went to restore his authority
over the River Euphrates.
4 (Jos 11:6; 11:9) David seized from him 1700 horsemen
and 20000 foot soldiers, and David hamstrung all of the chariot horses,
save those for 100 chariots.
5 (1Ki 11:23-25) The Arameans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer
king of Zobah, but David defeated twenty-two thousand men of the Arameans.
6 (2Sa 8:14; 7:9) David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus; and the Arameans
became servants who bore tribute to David.
The Lord helped David wherever he went.
7 David took the shields of gold that were issued to the servants of Hadadezer
and brought them to Jerusalem.
8 (1Ch 18:8) From Betah [Or captains, or thirty. Cf. 1Ch 11:11.] and Berothai,
cities of Hadadezer, King David took great quantities of bronze.
9 (1Ki 8:65) When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire
army of Hadadezer,
10 Toi sent his son Joram to King David to greet him and bless him on account
of his fighting with Hadadezer and his defeat of him,
for Hadadezer was an opponent of Toi. Joram brought with him implements
of silver, gold, and bronze,
11 (1Ki 7:51) which King David dedicated to the Lord along with the silver
and gold that he dedicated from all of the nations that he had subdued,
12 (2Sa 10:14; 8:2) that is, from Aram,[About 25 pounds, or 12 kilograms.]
Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and the plunder
from Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
13 (2Ki 14:7; 2Sa 7:9) So David made a name for himself upon his return
from defeating eighteen thousand Arameans
[Possibly Edomites. Cf. 2Sa 8:14, 1Ch 18:11-13, LXX and Syriac mss.]
in the Valley of Salt.
14 (Ge 27:29; 25:23) He set up garrisons in Edom. Throughout all of Edom,
he set up garrisons, and all of Edom became subject to David.
The Lord helped David wherever he went.

and to bless him because he fought and defeated Hadadezer

He sent all kinds of articles of gold, silver, and bronze.
11 King David also dedicated these to the Lord, together with the silver
and gold which he had carried away from all the surrounding nations,
from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalek.
12 (1Sa 26:6) Also Abishai the son of Zeruiah struck down 18000 men of Edom
in the Valley of Salt.

4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.

had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not caused it to rain on the earth,
and there was no man to cultivate the ground.
6 But a mist arose from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground.
7 Then the Lord God
formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life, and man became a living being.
8 The Lord God planted a garden in the east, in Eden, and there He placed the
man whom He had formed.
9 Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every
tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also
in the midst of the garden, along with the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Earth Day is an annual event observed on April 22. In recent years, more than
one billion people in about two hundred countries have taken part in
educational and service activities. Each year, Earth Day is a reminder of the
importance of caring for our amazing planet. But the mandate to care for the
environment is far older than this annual event—it goes all the way back to
creation.
In Genesis, we learn that God created the entire universe and formed
the earth as a place for humans to dwell. Not only did He fashion the mountain
peaks and lush plains, God also created the garden of Eden, a beautiful place
providing food, shelter, and beauty for its inhabitants (Genesis 2:8-9).
After breathing life into His most important creation, humans, God placed
them in this garden (vv. 8, 22) and gave them the responsibility "to work it
and take care of it" (v. 15). After Adam and Eve were expelled from
the garden, caring for God's creation became more difficult (3:17-19),
but to this day God Himself cares for our planet
and its creatures (Psalm 65:9-13) and asks us to do the same (Proverbs 12:10).
Whether we live in crowded cities or rural areas, we all have ways we can care
for the areas God has entrusted to us. And as we tend the earth, may it be an
act of gratitude to Him for this beautiful planet.

that He may exalt you in due time.

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God,
that he may exalt you in due time:
7 casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
"I was so humble I was given an award for humility," the pastor quipped.
"They gave me a humility plaque - but they had to take it back when I hung it
on my office wall."
Humility is rare among 20th Century Christians. Our pride takes two
seemingly contradictory forms: Self-exaltation and self-denial. But both
focus on self, not on God.
Francois Fenelon, 17th century French archbishop, From his
"Letters of Spiritual Counsel" wrote:
"He who so completely forget himself that he never thinks of self ... is
truly humble. If we had the light to discern it, we should see clearly that
when we think we are humbling ourselves we are exalting ourselves;
when we think we are annihilating ourselves we are seeking out own life."
True humility, as Fenelon implies, means recognising who we are in the light
of who God is. Excess of self-importance and low self-esteem are both
self-centered perspectives; true humility is God-centered.
When we humble ourselves, we become intensely aware of God and less
aware of ourselves. We can focus on his face and get our eyes off our own
image. We can stop worrying about how others perceive us. Such humbling

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.

Dreams and Visions Reach the Fuuta Tooro
Africa's Fuuta Tooro people live along the Senegalese River: one million
in Northern Senegal; and about 250,000 in South Mauritania.
Less than 0.1 percent of them are Christian.
Many have tried to share God’s story among the Fulani, but Sufi Islam has long
retained its hold on this particular subgroup. But now, dreams and visions are
reaching them, as they attest on social media, revealing how Jesus is at work
in them.
"I have been a follower of Jesus for 29 years," says a Fulani woman named
Amina. "I had a dream where I saw this figure in glowing white. He had his arms
wrapped around the world. When I saw him, I began crying and asking him to
forgive me, and He did. As I walked away, I heard another voice say,
'Do you know who you were talking to?' I said no. The voice replied,
'You were talking to Jesus.' I believed in Jesus and followed Him."
A woman named Fatou said, "I know Jesus is my Lord and Saviour,
and I want to connect with other Fulani who follow Jesus."
A Fulani man named Mamadou said,
"God is guiding me to share His story with a nearby village."
God has touched Fulani through dreams and visions
and calls them to reach out to other Fulani.
Pray that God will raise up more Fulani labourers
to reach their own people for Christ.
May more Fuuta Tooro have dreams and visions of Jesus
that lead them to share God's story.
May Fulani women rise up with boldness when God calls
out to them to follow Jesus.
