Resurrection of Christ - Real or False
Jesus is Historical and real.
1 Corinthians 15
The Resurrection of Christ
1 (Ro 5:2; 2Co 1:24) Now, brothers, I declare to you the gospel which I
preached to you, which you have received, and in which you stand.
2 (Gal 3:4; Ro 1:16) Through it you are saved, if you keep in memory
what I preached to you, unless you have believed in vain.
3 (1Pe 2:24; 1Co 11:23; Gal 1:4) For I delivered to you first of all
that which I also received: how Christ died for our sins according
to the Scriptures,
4 (Ps 16:10-11; Hos 6:2) was buried, rose again the third day
according to the Scriptures,
5 (Mk 16:14; Ac 10:41) and was seen by Cephas, and then by the twelve.
6 (Ac 7:60; 1Co 15:18) Then He was seen by over five hundred brothers
at once, of whom the greater part remain to this present time,
though some have passed away.
7 (Lk 24:50) Then He was seen by James and then by all the apostles.
8 (1Co 9:1; Ac 9:17) Last of all, He was seen by me also,
as by one born at the wrong time.
9 (Ac 8:3; 2Co 12:11) For I am the least of the apostles
and am not fit to be called an apostle,
because I persecuted the church of God.
10 (Php 2:13; 2Co 3:5) But by the grace of God I am what I am.
And His grace toward me was not in vain. I labored more abundantly
than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
11 Therefore, whether it was I or they,
so we preach and so you believed.
The Resurrection of the Dead
12 (Ac 23:8; 2Ti 2:18) Now if Christ is preached that He rose from the dead,
how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 (1Th 4:14) If there is no resurrection of the dead,
then Christ has not risen.
14 If Christ has not risen, then our preaching is vain,
and your faith is also vain.
15 (Ac 2:24) Yes, and we would then be found false witnesses of God,
because we have testified that God raised up Christ, whom He did not
raise up, if in fact the dead do not rise.
16 For if the dead do not rise, then Christ has not been raised.
17 (Ro 4:25) If Christ is not raised, your faith is vain;
you are still in your sins.
18 (Rev 14:13; 1Co 15:6) Then they also who have fallen asleep
in Christ have perished.
19 (2Ti 3:12) If in this life only we have hope in Christ,
we are of all men most miserable.
20 (Ac 26:23; 1Co 15:23) But now is Christ risen from the dead
and become the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
21 (Jn 11:25; Ro 6:23) For since death came by man, by man came
also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 (1Co 15:20; 15:52) But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits;
afterward, those who are Christ's at His coming.
24 (Da 7:27; 7:14; Isa 9:7) Then comes the end when He will deliver up
the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule
and all authority and power.
25 (Ps 110:1; Mt 22:44) For He will reign until He has put all enemies
under His feet.
26 (2Ti 1:10; Rev 20:14) The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
27 (Ps 8:6; Mt 28:18) For He "has put all things under His feet."(Ps 8:6.)
But when He says, "all things are put under Him," it is revealed that He,
who has put all things under Him, is the exception.
28 (1Co 3:23; Php 3:21) When all things are subjected to Him,
then the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put
all things under Him, that God may be all in all.
29 Otherwise, what will they do who are baptized for the dead,
if the dead do not rise at all? Why are they then baptized for the dead?
30 And why do we stand in danger every hour?
31 (Ro 8:36; 1Th 2:19) I affirm, by the boasting in you which
I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
32 (Isa 22:13; Lk 12:19) If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts
at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me if the dead do not rise?
"Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."(Isa 22:13.)
33 (1Co 5:6; 6:9) Do not be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good morals."
34 (Ro 13:11; 1Co 6:5) Awake to righteousness and do not sin,
for some do not have the knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.
The Resurrection Body
35 (Eze 37:3) But someone will say, "How are the dead raised up?
With what body do they come?”
36 (Jn 12:24) You fool! What you sow is not made alive unless it dies.
37 When you sow, you do not sow the body that shall be, but a bare kernel,
perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.
38 Then God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed its own body.
39 All flesh is not the same flesh. There is one kind of flesh of men,
another flesh of beasts, another of fish, and another of birds.
40 There are also celestial bodies and terrestrial bodies.
The glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial
is another.
41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon,
and another glory of the stars. One star differs from another star in glory.
42 (Da 12:3; Mt 13:43) So also is the resurrection of the dead.
The body is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption.
43 (Col 3:4) It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory.
It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.
44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
45 (Ge 2:7; Ro 8:2; Jn 5:21) So it is written,
"The first man Adam was made a living soul." (Ge 2:7.)
The last Adam was made a life-giving spirit.
46 However, that which is spiritual is not first, but the natural,
and then the spiritual.
47 (Jn 3:31; Ge 2:7; 3:19) The first man was of the earth, made of dust;
the second man was the Lord from heaven.
48 (Php 3:20-21) As was the man of dust, so are those who are of dust;
and as is the man of heaven, so are those who are of heaven.
49 (Ge 5:3; Ro 8:29) As we have borne the image of the man of dust,
we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.
50 (Mt 16:17) Now this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot
inherit the kingdom of God, nor does corruption inherit incorruption.
51 (1Co 13:2; Php 3:21) Listen, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed.
52 (Mt 24:31; Jn 5:25; Isa 27:13) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trumpet, for the trumpet will sound,
the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53 (2Co 5:2-4; 1Jn 3:2) For this corruptible will put on incorruption,
and this mortal will put on immortality.
54 (Isa 25:8; Rev 20:14) When this corruptible will have put on incorruption,
and this mortal will have put on immortality, then the saying that is written
shall come to pass: "Death is swallowed up in victory."(Isa 25:8.)
55 (Hos 13:14) "O death, where is your sting?
O grave, where is your victory?"(Hos 13:14.)
56 (Ro 4:15) The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
57 (Ro 8:37; 2Co 2:14) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ!
58 (1Co 16:10; 2Pe 3:14) Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast,
unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that
your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15
[1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto
you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto
you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how
that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according
to the scriptures:
[5] And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
[6] After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom
the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.
[7] After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.
[8] And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
[9] For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an
apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
[10] But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was
bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they
all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
[11] Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.
[12] Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some
among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
[13] But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
[14] And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith
is also vain.
[15] Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified
of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the
dead rise not.
[16] For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:
[17] And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your
sins.
[18] Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.
[19] If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most
miserable.
[20] But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of
them that slept.
[21] For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the
dead.
[22] For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
[23] But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they
that are Christ's at his coming.
[24] Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to
God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority
and power.
[25] For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
[26] The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
[27] For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all
things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put
all things under him.
[28] And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also
himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be
all in all.
[29] Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead
rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
[30] And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?
[31] I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I
die daily.
[32] If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what
advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow
we die.
[33] Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
[34] Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of
God: I speak this to your shame.
[35] But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body
do they come?
[36] Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
[37] And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be,
but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
[38] But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his
own body.
[39] All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men,
another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
[40] There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory
of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
[41] There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and
another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in
glory.
[42] So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it
is raised in incorruption:
[43] It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness;
it is raised in power:
[44] It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a
natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
[45] And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the
last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
[46] Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is
natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
[47] The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from
heaven.
[48] As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the
heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
[49] And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the
image of the heavenly.
[50] Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the
kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
[51] Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all
be changed,
[52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we
shall be changed.
[53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put
on immortality.
[54] So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this
mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the
saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
[55] O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
[56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
[57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord
Jesus Christ.
[58] Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always
abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is
not in vain in the Lord.

Ephesians 2
From Death to Life
1 (Col 2:13; Lk 15:24) And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
[1] And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 (Jn 12:31; Eph 6:12; 2:3) in which you formerly walked according
to the age of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
[2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience:
3 (Gal 2:15-16; Ps 51:5) among them we all also once lived in the lusts
of our flesh, doing the desires of the flesh and of the mind,
and we were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.
[3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts
of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were
by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

each of us has turned to his own way,
but the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one
to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.)

with which He loved us,
[4] But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
The present
5 (Eph 2:1; Ac 15:11; Eph 2:8) even when we were dead in sins, made us alive

Resurrection and restoration
( 1 Peter 1:3
3 (1Co 15:20; 2Co 1:3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His abundant mercy has given us a new birth into a living
hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
[3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according
to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the
resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,)
6 (Eph 1:3) and He raised us up and seated us together in the heavenly places
in Christ Jesus,
[6] And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly
places in Christ Jesus:
7 (Titus 3:4; Eph 2:4) so that in the coming ages He might show
the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
[7] That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace
in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

13 (Ac 2:39; Isa 57:19) But now in Christ Jesus you who were formerly
far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

the blood of Christ.

1 SAMUEL 30
David Defeats the Amalekites
1 (1Sa 15:7; 29:11) Now when David and his men came to Ziklag
on the third day, the Amalekites had raided the south as far as Ziklag.
They had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire.
2 (1Sa 27:11) They had taken as captives all the women who were there.
They did not kill anyone, but carried them off and went on their way.
3 David and his men came to the city, and they found it burned with fire,
and their wives, their sons, and their daughters taken captive.
4 (Nu 14:1) So David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice
and wept until they had no strength in them to weep.
5 (1Sa 25:42-43; 2Sa 2:2) Now David's two wives were taken captive,
Ahin-oam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 (Ex 17:4; Nu 14:10) David was greatly distressed, for the people talked
of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in spirit, each over
his sons and daughters. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
7 (1Sa 22:20-21) And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelek,
"Please bring the ephod to me." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.
8 (1Sa 23:2; 23:4) David inquired at the Lord, saying,
"Should I pursue after this raiding party? Will I overtake them?"
And He answered him, "Pursue them, for you will surely overtake them
and will surely recover all."
9 So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him.
And they came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind remained.
10 (1Sa 30:2) 1But David pursued, he and four hundred men, for two hundred
who were too exhausted to cross over the brook Besor remained behind.
11 They found an Egyptian in the field and took him to David.
He gave him bread and he ate, and they made him drink water.
12 (Jdg 15:19; 1Sa 14:27) And they gave him a part of a cake of figs
and two cakes of raisins. When he had eaten, his spirit came back to him,
for he had not eaten bread or drunk any water for three days and nights.
13Then David said to him, "To whom do you belong? And where are you from?"
And he said, "I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite.
And my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick.
14 (2Sa 8:18; 1Ki 1:38) We raided the south of the Kerethites,
the south of Judah, and the south of Caleb. And we burned Ziklag with fire."
15David said to him, "Will you bring me down to this raiding party?"
And he said, "Swear to me by God that you will neither kill me, nor deliver
me into the hand of my master, and I will bring you down to this raiding party."
16 When he brought him down, they were spread out over all the land,
eating, drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil which they
had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.
17 (1Sa 11:11) David struck them from twilight until the evening
of the next day, and no man escaped except four hundred young men
who rode on camels and fled.
18 So David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken,
and David rescued his two wives.
19 (1Sa 30:8) Now there was nothing missing, from the smallest thing
to the greatest, neither sons, nor daughters, or plunder, or anything
which they had taken. David brought back all of it.
20 (1Sa 30:26) And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drove
before the other livestock. And they said, "This is David's spoil."
21 (1Sa 30:10) Then David came to the two hundred men, who were too
exhausted to follow David, whom they left at the brook Besor.
And they went out to meet David and the people who were with him.
And when David came near to the people, he greeted them.
22 Then all the wicked and worthless ones from the men who went with David
answered and said, "Because they did not go with us, we will not give them
anything from the spoil that we have rescued, except to every man his wife
and his children, that they may lead them away and depart."
23Then David said, "You will not do so, my brothers, with what the Lord has
given us, for He has preserved us, and has delivered into our hand
the raiding party that came against us.
24 (Nu 31:27; Jos 22:8) And who will listen to you in this matter?
Indeed as the share is of the one going down to battle, so will be the share
of the one staying with the equipment. They will share equally."
25 So it was so from that day forward, that he set it as a statute
and an ordinance for Israel to this day.
26 (1Sa 25:27) When David came to Ziklag, he sent part of the spoil
to his friends, the elders of Judah, saying,
"Here is a gift to you from the spoil
of the enemies of the Lord":
27 (Jos 15:48; 19:8) to those who were in Bethel,
in Ramoth of the Negev, and in Jattir;
28 (Jos 13:16; 15:50) to those who were in Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa,
29 (Jdg 1:16; 1Sa 27:10) and in Rakal; to those who were in the cities
of the Jerahmeelites and the Kenites;
30 (Jdg 1:17; Jos 19:4) to those who were in Hormah, Bor Ashan, Athak
31 (2Sa 2:1)and in Hebron; and to those who were in all the other places
where David and his men had roamed.
1 Samuel 30
[1] And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the
third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and
smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
[2] And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any,
either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.
[3] So David and his men came to the city, and, behold, it was burned with
fire; and their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, were taken
captives.
[4] Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and
wept, until they had no more power to weep.
[5] And David's two wives were taken captives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and
Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
[6] And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him,
because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and
for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.
[7] And David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, I pray thee,
bring me hither the ephod. And Abiathar brought thither the ephod to David.
[8] And David inquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop?
shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely
overtake them, and without fail recover all.
[9] So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came
to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.
[10] But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode
behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor.
[11] And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and
gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
[12] And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs, and two clusters of
raisins: and when he had eaten, his spirit came again to him: for he had
eaten no bread, nor drunk any water, three days and three nights.
[13] And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou? and whence art thou?
And he said, I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; and my
master left me, because three days ago I fell sick.
[14] We made an invasion upon the south of the Cherethites, and upon the
coast which belongeth to Judah, and upon the south of Caleb; and we burned
Ziklag with fire.
[15] And David said to him, Canst thou bring me down to this company? And he
said, Swear unto me by God, that thou wilt neither kill me, nor deliver me
into the hands of my master, and I will bring thee down to this company.
[16] And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon
all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great
spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the
land of Judah.
[17] And David smote them from the twilight even unto the evening of the
next day: and there escaped not a man of them, save four hundred young men,
which rode upon camels, and fled.
[18] And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David
rescued his two wives.
[19] And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither
sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to
them: David recovered all.
[20] And David took all the flocks and the herds, which they drave before
those other cattle, and said, This is David's spoil.
[21] And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they
could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor:
and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with
him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.
[22] Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went
with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them
ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and
his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.
[23] Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the
LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that
came against us into our hand.
[24] For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that
goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff:
they shall part alike.
[25] And it was so from that day forward, that he made it a statute and an
ordinance for Israel unto this day.
[26] And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of
Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of
the enemies of the LORD;
[27] To them which were in Bethel, and to them which were in south Ramoth,
and to them which were in Jattir,
[28] And to them which were in Aroer, and to them which were in Siphmoth,
and to them which were in Eshtemoa,
[29] And to them which were in Rachal, and to them which were in the cities
of the Jerahmeelites, and to them which were in the cities of the Kenites,
[30] And to them which were in Hormah, and to them which were in Chor-ashan,
and to them which were in Athach,
[31] And to them which were in Hebron, and to all the places where David
himself and his men were wont to haunt.
1 Chronicles 12:20-22
20 As he went to Ziklag, these men of Manasseh deserted to join him:
Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai,
chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
21 So they helped David against the bands of raiders because all of them
were mighty men of valor and commanders in the army.
22 (Ge 32:2; Jos 5:14) For at that time, day by day, they came to help
David until they became a great camp like the camp of God.
[20] As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manasseh, Adnah, and Jozabad,
and Jediael, and Michael, and Jozabad, and Elihu, and Zilthai, captains
of the thousands that were of Manasseh.
[21] And they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all
mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.
[22] For at that time day by day there came to David to help him,
until it was a great host, like the host of God.
1 SAMUEL 31
The House of Saul, Dead and Buried
2Sa 1:4-12; 1Ch 10:1-12
1 (1Sa 28:4; 1Ch 10:1-12) Now the Philistines were fighting against Israel,
and Israel's fighting men fled before the Philistines and they fell slain
on Mount Gilboa.
2 (1Ch 8:33; 1Sa 14:49) The Philistines overtook Saul and his sons.
And the Philistines killed his sons, Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua,
Saul's sons.
3 (2Sa 1:6) The battle was heavy against Saul. The archers found him,
and he was severely wounded by the archers.
4 (Jdg 9:54; 1Sa 14:6) Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword
and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me
through and abuse me."
But his armor bearer would not, for he was very afraid.
Therefore Saul took his sword and fell upon it.
5 When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell upon his sword
and died with him.
6 So Saul died with his three sons and his armor bearer,
together with all his men on that same day.
7 When Israel's fighting men who were on the other side of the valley,
and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that Israel's fighting men fled
and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled.
So the Philistines came and lived in them.
8 The following day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found
Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9 (2Sa 1:20; Jdg 16:23-24) They cut off his head, stripped off his armor,
and sent them into the land of the Philistines round about, to make it known
in the house of their idols and among their people.
10 (Jos 17:11; Jdg 2:13) They put his armor in the house of Ashtoreth,
and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.
11 When the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines
had done to Saul,
12 (2Ch 16:14; 2Sa 2:4-7) all the valiant men arose and went all night,
and they took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan,
and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.
13 (Ge 50:10; 2Sa 21:12-14) Then they took their bones and buried them
under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they mourned, fasting seven days.
1 Samuel 31
[1] Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled
from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
[2] And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the
Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.
[3] And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he
was sore wounded of the archers.
[4] Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me
through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and
abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore
Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
[5] And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon
his sword, and died with him.
[6] So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men,
that same day together.
[7] And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley,
and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel
fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and
fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
[8] And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip
the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
[9] And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into
the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their
idols, and among the people.
[10] And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened
his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
[11] And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the
Philistines had done to Saul;
[12] All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of
Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to
Jabesh, and burnt them there.
[13] And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and
fasted seven days.
1 CHRONICLES 10
The Death of Saul
1Sa 31:1-13; 2Sa 1:4-12
1 (1Sa 31:1-13; 1Ch 10:8) Now when the Philistines fought against Israel,
every Israelite fighter fled before the Philistines, and the slain fell
on Mount Gilboa.
2 But the Philistines pursued Saul and his sons and struck down Saul's sons
Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.
3 As the battle with Saul became heavy, the archers' bows found their target
and mortally wounded him.
4 (1Sa 31:4) So Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword and pierce me
through lest these uncircumcised Philistines come and make a fool of me."
But his armor bearer was unwilling to do it because he was overwhelmed
with fear, so Saul took the sword and fell on it himself.
5 When the armor bearer saw that Saul was dead,
he too fell on his sword and died.
6 Thus, Saul and his three sons, namely all his house, died together.
7 Now when all the children of Israel in the valley saw that they had fled
the battlefield, and Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities
and escaped, leaving the Philistines to come and dwell in them.
8 The next day, when the Philistines came to pillage the slain,
they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9 So they stripped Saul, removed his head and his armor,
and circulated the news of his demise throughout the land of the Philistines
to their idols as well as the people.
10 Then they placed his armor in the temple of their gods, while his head
they impaled in the house of Dagon.
11 Now all Jabesh Gilead heard about everything the Philistines did to Saul,
12 so their valiant men rose up and carried the body of Saul and the bodies
of his sons to Jabesh. They buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh
and fasted, mourning seven days.
13 (Lev 19:31; 20:6) So Saul died because of his unfaithful
deeds against the Lord,
because of his failure to keep the word of the Lord, and because he sought
to consult a spirit of divination
14 (1Sa 15:28; 13:14) but did not seek the Lord. So He killed him and turned
the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.
1 Chronicles 10
From Saul to David
[1] Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled
from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
[2] And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons;
and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons
of Saul.
[3] And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him,
and he was wounded of the archers.
[4] Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me
through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.
But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid.
So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
[5] And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise
on the sword, and died.
[6] So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.
[7] And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that
they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook
their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
[8] And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip
the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
[9] And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour,
and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings
unto their idols, and to the people.
[10] And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened
his head in the temple of Dagon.
[11] And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done
to Saul,
[12] they arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul,
and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh,
and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
[13] So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against
the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not,
and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit,
to enquire of it;
[14] and enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him,
and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
1 Chronicles 9:40-44
40 The son of Jonathan was Merib-Baal, and Merib-Baal
became the father of Micah.
41 (1Ch 8:35) The sons of Micah were Pithon, Melek, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
42 (1Ch 8:36) Ahaz became the father of Jarah,
and Jarah the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri.
Zimri became the father of Moza,
43 (1Ch 8:37) and Moza became the father of Binea, Rephaiah his son,
Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.
44 Azel had six sons, and these were their names:
Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan.
These were the sons of Azel.
[40] And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal: and Merib-baal begat Micah.
[41] And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz.
[42] And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri;
and Zimri begat Moza;
[43] and Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son,
Eleasah his son, Azel his son.
[44] And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru,
and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan:
these were the sons of Azel.
2 Samuel 4:4
4 (2Sa 9:3; 1Ch 8:34) Now Jonathan the son of Saul had
a son with crippled feet.
He was five years old when the report of Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel.
His nurse picked him up and fled, but in her haste to escape, he fell
and became lame. His name was Mephibosheth.
[4] And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was
five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel,
and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste
to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
2 SAMUEL 1
The Death of Saul
1Sa 31:1-13; 1Ch 10:1-13
1 After the death of Saul, when David had returned
from the slaughter of the Amalekites, David had remained two days in Ziklag.
2 (1Sa 4:12; 2Sa 4:10; Jos 7:6) On the third day, a man came
from the camp of Saul with his clothes torn and dirt upon his head.
As he approached David, he fell to the ground prostrate.
3 David asked him, "Where have you come from?"
He responded, "I fled from the camp of Israel."
4 (1Sa 4:16) David said to him, "Tell me, what is the report?"
So he reported, "The people fled from battle. Many of the people have fallen
and died; even Saul and his son Jonathan are dead."
5 Then David asked the young man who was reporting to him,
"How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?"
6 (1Sa 28:4) The young man who was reporting to him answered,
"I happened to be on Mount Gilboa when, in front of me,
Saul was leaning on his spear with the chariots and horsemen drawing close.
7 When he turned around, he noticed me. He summoned me, and I responded,
'Here I am.'
8 (1Sa 30:13; 30:17) "He asked me, 'Who are you?'
"I answered, 'I am an Amalekite.'
9 "Then he said to me, 'Stand over me and kill me,
for I have been mortally wounded, yet I am still alive.'
10 (Jdg 9:54; 2Ki 11:12) "So I stood beside him and killed him because I knew
that he could not live after he had fallen. Then I took the crown that was on
his head and the armlet that was on his arm, and I have brought them here
to my lord."
11 (Ge 37:29; 2Sa 3:31) Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them,
as did all of the men who were with him.
12 They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul,
Jonathan his son, the people of the Lord, and the house of Israel,
because they had fallen by the sword.
13 Then David asked the young man who was reporting to him,
"Where are you from?"
He responded, "I am the son of one who sought refuge, an Amalekite."
14 (1Sa 24:6; 26:9) David said to him, "How is it that you did not fear
raising your hand to destroy the anointed of the Lord?"
15 Then David called to one of the young men and said,
"Step forward and execute him." So he struck him and killed him.
16 (Mt 27:25; Lev 20:9_ But David said to him, "Your blood is upon
your own head, since your mouth has testified against you, saying,
'I put an end to the anointed of the Lord.' "
The Lament of David
17 (2Ch 35:25) Then David recited this lament over Saul and Jonathan his son,
18 (Jos 10:13) and he told them to teach the sons of Judah
the Song of the Bow.
It is written in the book of Jashar:
19 (2 Sa 1:27; 1:25) Your splendor, O Israel, has been slain upon your hills.
How the mighty ones have fallen.
20 (Mic 1:10; 1Sa 18:6) Do not report it in Gath,
do not announce it in the streets of Ashkelon,
lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice,
or the daughters of the uncircumcised exult.
21 (1Sa 31:1; Isa 21:5) O mountains of Gilboa,
may there be no rain or dew upon you
or your bountiful fields;
for there the shield of the mighty was defiled!
The shield of Saul is no longer anointed with oil.
22 (1Sa 18:4; Isa 34:6-7) From the blood of the slain,
from the fat of mighty,
the bow of Jonathan did not turn back,
nor did the sword of Saul return empty.
23 (Jdg 14:18; Jer 4:13) Saul and Jonathan,
beloved and delightful,
neither in life nor death will they be separated.
They were swifter than eagles,
they were stronger than lions.
24 O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul,
who clothed you in scarlet and jewels,
who adorned your garments with gold jewelry.
25 (2Sa 1:19; 1:27) How the mighty ones have fallen in the midst of battle!
Jonathan was slain on your high places.
26 (1Sa 18:1-4) I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan;
you were very dear to me;
your love was more remarkable than the love of women.
27 (2Sa 1:25; 1:19) How the mighty have fallen,
and the weapons of war have perished.
2 Samuel 1
[1] Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned
from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in
Ziklag;
[2] It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of
the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it
was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance.
[3] And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him,
Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.
[4] And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And
he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the
people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead
also.
[5] And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that
Saul and Jonathan his son be dead?
[6] And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount
Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and
horsemen followed hard after him.
[7] And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I
answered, Here am I.
[8] And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an
Amalekite.
[9] And he said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for
anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me.
[10] So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not
live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head,
and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my
lord.
[11] Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all
the men that were with him:
[12] And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for
Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of
Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
[13] And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And
he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite.
[14] And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth
thine hand to destroy the LORD's anointed?
[15] And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon
him. And he smote him that he died.
[16] And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath
testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD's anointed.
[17] And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan
his son:
[18] (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow:
behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
[19] The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty
fallen!
[20] Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the
daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the
uncircumcised triumph.
[21] Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain,
upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is
vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed
with oil.
[22] From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of
Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty.
[23] Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their
death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were
stronger than lions.
[24] Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet,
with other delights, who put on ornaments of gold upon your apparel.
[25] How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou
was slain in thine high places.
[26] I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou
been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.
[27] How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!

17 (Ro 4:25) If Christ is not raised, your faith is vain;
you are still in your sins.
23 (1Co 15:20; 15:52) But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits;
afterward, those who are Christ's at His coming.
47 (Jn 3:31; Ge 2:7; 3:19) The first man was of the earth, made of dust;
the second man was the Lord from heaven.
48 (Php 3:20-21) As was the man of dust, so are those who are of dust;
and as is the man of heaven, so are those who are of heaven.
[1] Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto
you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
[2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto
you, unless ye have believed in vain.
[3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how
that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
[43] It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness;
it is raised in power:

27 (Jos 15:48; 19:8) to those who were in Bethel,
in Ramoth of the Negev, and in Jattir;
28 (Jos 13:16; 15:50) to those who were in Aroer, Siphmoth, Eshtemoa,
29 (Jdg 1:16; 1Sa 27:10) and in Rakal; to those who were in the cities
of the Jerahmeelites and the Kenites;
30 (Jdg 1:17; Jos 19:4) to those who were in Hormah, Bor Ashan, Athak
31 (2Sa 2:1)and in Hebron; and to those who were in all the other places
where David and his men had roamed.
1 Samuel 30
[1] And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the
third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and
smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire;
[11] And they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David, and
gave him bread, and he did eat; and they made him drink water;
[26] And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of
Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of
the enemies of the LORD;
[11] And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the
Philistines had done to Saul;
[2] And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons;
and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons
[13] So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against
the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not,
and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit,
to enquire of it;
[14] and enquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him,
and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.
[42] And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri;
and Zimri begat Moza;
21 (1Sa 31:1; Isa 21:5) O mountains of Gilboa,
may there be no rain or dew upon you
or your bountiful fields;
for there the shield of the mighty was defiled!
26 (1Sa 18:1-4) I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan;
you were very dear to me;
your love was more remarkable than the love of women.
27 (2Sa 1:25; 1:19) How the mighty have fallen,
and the weapons of war have perished.
2 Samuel 1
[1] Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned
from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in
Ziklag;
