The Genealogy of David
13 (Ge 29:31; 33:5) So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife.
When they came together, the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she bore a son.
14 (Lk 1:58) Then the women said to Naomi, "Blessed be the Lord, who has not
left you without a redeemer. May he become famous in Israel!
15 (1Sa 1:8) He will be a comfort for your soul and support you in your
old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better
to you than seven sons, has given birth to him."
16 Then Naomi took the child, laid him on her lap, and became his nurse.
17 The neighbor women gave him a name, saying, "A son has been born to Naomi!"
And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 (1Ch 2:4-8; Mt 1:3-6) Now these are the descendants of Perez:
Perez was the father of Hezron,
19 Hezron the father of Ram,
Ram the father of Amminadab,
20 (Nu 1:7) Amminadab the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,

Boaz the father of Obed,

[13] So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her,
the LORD gave her conception, and she bare a son.

thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel.
[15] And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of
thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better
to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

9 Ru 4:19; 1Ch 2:42Now the sons of Hezron, who were born to him, were
Jerahmeel, Ram, and Kelubai.
Sons of Ram
10 (Mt 1:4; Nu 1:7)Ram became the father of
Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon,
a leader of the sons of Judah.
11 (Ru 4:21; Mt 1:4-5) Nahshon became the father of Salma, and Salma
became the father of Boaz. 12Boaz became the father of Obed,
and Obed became the father of Jesse.
13 (1 Sa 17:13) Now Jesse became the father of
his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimea the third,
14 Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth,
15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh;
16 (1Sa 26:6) their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail.
The sons of Zeruiah were Abishai, Joab, and Asahel, three in all.
17 (2Sa 17:25) Abigail bore Amasa: the father of Amasa was Jether
the Ishmaelite.
Sons of Caleb
18 Caleb the son of Hezron had children with his wife Azubah and with Jerioth.
These are her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
19 (1Ch 2:50) Now Azubah died, and Caleb took Ephrath as a wife. She bore Hur
for him.
20 (Ex 31:2) Hur became the father of Uri,
and Uri became the father of Bezalel.
21 (Nu 27:1) Afterward Hezron had relations with the daughter of Makir,
the father of Gilead, whom he took as a wife when he was sixty years old,
and she bore Segub for him.
22 Segub became the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land
of Gilead.
23 He took Geshur and Aram, the towns of Jair, from them,
with Kenath and its villages, sixty towns. All these were descendants
of Makir, the father of Gilead.
24 (1Ch 4:5) After the death of Hezron in Caleb Ephrathah, Hezron's wife
Abijah bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa.
Sons of Jerahmeel
25 Now the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were
Ram the firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
26 Jerahmeel also had another wife. Her name was Atarah,
and she was the mother of Onam.
27 The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28 The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada.
And the sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.
29 The name of the wife of Abishur was Abihail. She bore him Ahban and Molid.
30 The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim, but Seled died without children.
31 (1Ch 2:34-35) The son of Appaim was Ishi. The son of Ishi was Sheshan,
and the son of Sheshan was Ahlai.
32 The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai were
Jether and Jonathan, but Jether died without children.
33 The sons of Jonathan were
Peleth and Zaza.
These were the sons of Jerahmeel.
34 Now Sheshan had no children except daughters,
but he did have a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Jarha.
35 Sheshan gave one of his daughters to Jarha his servant as a wife,
and she bore him Attai.
36 (1Ch 11:41) Attai became the father of Nathan, and Nathan became
the father of Zabad.
37 Zabad became the father of Ephlal, and Ephlal became the father of Obed.
38 Obed became the father of Jehu, and Jehu became the father of Azariah.
39 Azariah became the father of Helez, and Helez became the father of Eleasah.
40 Eleasah became the father of Sismai,
and Sismai became the father of Shallum.
41 Shallum became the father of Jekamiah,
and Jekamiah became the father of Elishama.
Caleb's Clans
42 Now the sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel were Mesha his firstborn,
who was the father of Ziph, and the sons of Mareshah the father of Hebron.
43 The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44 Shema became the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam,
and Rekem became the father of Shammai.
45 Jos 15:58The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth Zur.
46 Ephah, Caleb's concubine, bore Haran, Moza, and Gazez,
and Haran became the father of Gazez.
47 The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48 Maakah, Caleb’s concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah.
49 Jos 15:31She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah,
Sheva the father of Makbenah, and the father of Gibea.
The daughter of Caleb was Aksah.
50 These were the sons of Caleb the son of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah:
Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim,
51 (1Ch 4:4) Salma the father of Bethlehem,
and Hareph the father of Beth Gader.
52 (1Ch 4:2) Now sons were born to Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim:
Haroeh and half of the Manahathites.
53 (2Sa 23:38) The families of Kiriath Jearim were the Ithrites, the Puthites,
the Shumathites, and the Mishraites. From these the Zorathites
and the Eshtaolites went forth.
54 (Ezr 2:22; Ne 7:26) The sons of Salma were
Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth Beth Joab, and half
of the Manahathites, the Zorites.
55 (Jdg 1:16; 2Ki 10:15) The families of the scribes who lived at Jabez were
the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. They are the Kenites
who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rekab.
9 The sons also of Hezron, that were born unto him; Jerahmeel, and Ram,
and Chelubai.
10 And Ram begat Amminadab; and Amminadab begat Nahshon,
prince of the children of Judah;
11 and Nahshon begat Salma, and Salma begat Boaz,

2 Reaiah the son of Shobal became the father of Jahath,
and Jahath became the father of Ahumai and Lahad.
These are the families of the Zorathites.
3 These were the sons of the father of Etam:
Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. The name of their sister was Hazzelelponi.
4 (1Ch 2:50; 4:18) Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer was the father
of Hushah.
These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah,
the father of Bethlehem.
5 (1Ch 2:24) Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives: Helah and Naarah.
6 Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari.
These were the sons of Naarah.
7 The sons of Helah were Zereth, Zohar, and Ethnan.
8 Koz became the father of Anub and Hazzobebah
and the families of Aharhel the son of Harum.
9 (Ge 34:19) Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers,
and his mother called his name Jabez, saying,
"Because I bore him in hardship."
10 Then Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying,
"Oh, that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my territory,
that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from evil,
that it may not bring me hardship!" So God granted what he asked.
11 Kelub the brother of Shuhah became the father of Mehir,
who was the father of Eshton.
12 Eshton became the father of Beth Rapha,
aseah, and Tehinnah the father of Ir Nahash. These were the men of Rekah.
13 (Jos 15:17; Jdg 1:13) The sons of Kenaz were
Othniel and Seraiah,
and the sons of Othniel were
Hathath and Meonothai.
14 Meonothai became the father of Ophrah,
and Seraiah became the father of Joab,
the father of Ge Harashim, for they were craftsmen.
15 (Nu 13:6) The sons of Caleb the son of Jephunneh
were Iru, Elah, and Naam,and the son of Elah was Kenaz.
16 The sons of Jehallelel were Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.

and Mered's wife bore Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.
18 (1Ch 4:4) His Judean wife bore Jered the father of Gedor, Heber
the father of Soko, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.
So these were the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took.
19 (Jos 15:44) The sons of his wife Hodiah, the sister of Naham,
were the father of Keilah the Garmite and Eshtemoa the Maakathite.
20 The sons of Shimon were Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-Hanan, and Tilon.
And the sons of Ishi were Zoheth and Ben-Zoheth.
21 (Ge 38:5; 46:12) The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were
Er the father of Lekah, Laadah the father of Mareshah,
the families of the house of workers of fine linen at Beth Ashbea;
22 Jokim, the men of Kozeba, Joash, Saraph, who was lord in Moab,
and Jashubi Lehem (these records are ancient).
23 They were the potters, those dwelling at Netaim and Gederah
(they dwelt there with the king for his work).

1 SAMUEL 1
The Birth of Samuel
1 (1Sa 1:19; 1Ch 6:34) Now there was a certain man from Ramathaim Zuphim,
in the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham,
the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.
2 And he had two wives; the name of one was Hannah and the name of the second
was Peninnah. Now Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3 (Ex 23:14; Dt 12:5-7) This man went up out of his city annually to worship
and to sacrifice to the Lord of Hosts in Shiloh. And there the two sons of Eli,
Hophni and Phinehas, were priests to the Lord.
4 (Dt 12:17-18; 16:11) When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave
portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters.
5 (Ge 30:2) But to Hannah he gave a double portion because he loved Hannah,
but the Lord had closed her womb.
6 Now her rival provoked her greatly, making her miserable because the Lord
had closed her womb.
7 Thus it was yearly, when she went up to the house of the Lord,
that she provoked her. So Hannah wept and did not eat.
8 (Ru 4:15) Then said Elkanah her husband to her, "Hannah, why are
you weeping? And why do you not eat? Why is your heart grieved?
Am I not better to you than ten sons?"

eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than

James 1:19-27
Hearing and Doing the Word
19 (Pr 10:19; 14:29) Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift
to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
20 for the anger of man does not work the righteousness of God.
21 (Eph 1:13; 4:22) Therefore lay aside all filthiness
and remaining wickedness and receive with meekness the engrafted word,
which is able to save your souls.
22 (Ro 2:13; Lk 6:46-48) Be doers of the word and not hearers only,
deceiving yourselves.
23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer,
he is like a man viewing his natural face in a mirror.
24 He views himself, and goes his way,
and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25 (Jas 2:12; Jn 13:17) But whoever looks into the perfect law of liberty,
and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work,
this man will be blessed in his deeds.
26 (Ps 34:13; 141:3) If anyone among you seems to be religious
and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's
religion is vain.
27 (Isa 1:23; Ro 12:2) Religion that is pure and undefiled before God,
the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction
and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
[19] Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to

[23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a
man beholding his natural face in a glass:
[24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth
what manner of man he was.
[25] But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth
therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man
shall be blessed in his deed.
[26] If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue,
but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
[27] Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit
the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted
from the world.
The scene in the parking lot might have been funny if it wasn't so tragic.
Two drivers were arguing loudly over one of their cars that was blocking
the passage of the other, and harsh words were being exchanged.
What made it especially painful to watch was that this quarrel was taking
place in the parking lot of a church. The two men had possibly just heard
a sermon about love, patience, or forgiveness, but it was all forgotten
in the heat of the moment.
Passing by, I shook my head-then quickly realized I was no better. How many
times had I read the Bible, only to fall into sin moments later with
an uncharitable thought? How many times had I behaved like the person who

James was calling on his readers not only to read and reflect
on God's instruction, but also to do what it says (v. 22).
A complete faith, he noted, means both knowing Scripture
and putting it into action.
Life's circumstances can make it hard to apply what Scripture reveals.
But if we ask the Father, He'll surely help us obey His words
and please Him with our actions.

In Sheldon Vanauken's book "A Severe Mercy", Vanauken faced the "severe mercy"
of the untimely death of his wife. His friend C. S. Lewis , who had endured a
similar grief , comforted him through letters,
encouraging him with the exhotation, "Go under the Mercy".
While God's grace deals with sin and forgiveness,
God's mercy deals with the pain pf human existence. We all experience pain
- sometimes as a natural result of wrongs we have done, sometimes unfairly
as a consequence of living in a fallen world.
But for all who hurt, God provides
mercy - respite from pain, and the assurance of a Lord who cares.
David , in Psalm 13 says " I trust in your mercy, your unfailing love."
God's love never fail us, no matter how much we may have failed him.
David knew the consequences of sin; he knew what it meant to fail God,
to rebel against God's faithfulness. Yet David trusted in God's Goodness
rather than depending upon his own; he focused his attention upon the
mercy of the Lord.
We need, like David, to "Go under the mercy", even when it is a "severe mercy."
Even when circumstances seem bad; even when things seem out of control; even
when we think God has forsaken us, yet his mercy is at work to bring us
fulfillment and cause us to turn to him
with a song of praise on our lips.

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.

Turkey has played a significant role in God's redemptive history. It's where
Noah's ark came to rest and where the followers of Jesus were first
called Christians.
The church in Turkey thrived for centuries, but Muslim conquests changed
that. Today, being a Turk means being a Muslim. Turkey is one of the least
evangelized countries in the world. Only 0.04 percent of its population
of about 84 million people are Evangelical believers.
Passionate to see more Turks come to Christ, believers launched
the Bible Correspondence Course (BCC) decades ago. That program has
since distributed millions of pieces of Christian literature through
various platforms, including internet ads, Facebook ads, and Twitter posts.
Many of Turkey's Evangelical Christians can trace their spiritual
journey to these courses.
"I was prejudiced against Christianity," said Nehir, a believer from
a Muslim background who saw an ad on Facebook and requested a Bible course.
"But Jesus called me, and I couldn't do anything except invite Him in."
Now baptised, she shares her faith with other Turks.
Yusuf, a 36-year-old Turk, signed up for the BCC program after seeking
the truth about contradictions in Islam.
"I want to truly know God," he said. "This desire has burned like
an ember in my heart. I want to quench the fire and witness,
knowing that God loves me. I hope the Bible you send me will
be the remedy for this."
Pray that God will use social media and Bible correspondence
courses to reach more Turks like Nehir and Yusuf.
Ask God to continue drawing Turkish people to Himself through His holy Word.
Pray for more laborers to follow up with Turks who enrolled in Bible correspondence courses (Matthew 9:37).

Hearing and Doing the Word

The scene in the parking lot might have been funny if it wasn't so tragic.
Two drivers were arguing loudly over one of their cars that was blocking
the passage of the other, and harsh words were being exchanged.
What made it especially painful to watch was that this quarrel was taking
place in the parking lot of a church. The two men had possibly just heard
a sermon about love, patience, or forgiveness, but it was all forgotten
in the heat of the moment.
Passing by, I shook my head-then quickly realized I was no better. How many
times had I read the Bible, only to fall into sin moments later with
an uncharitable thought? How many times had I behaved like the person who

James was calling on his readers not only to read and reflect
on God's instruction, but also to do what it says (v. 22).
A complete faith, he noted, means both knowing Scripture
and putting it into action.
Life's circumstances can make it hard to apply what Scripture reveals.
But if we ask the Father, He'll surely help us obey His words
and please Him with our actions.

Ps 13:5-6

6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
In Sheldon Vanauken's book "A Severe Mercy", Vanauken faced the "severe mercy"
of the untimely death of his wife. His friend C. S. Lewis , who had endured a
similar grief , comforted him through letters,
encouraging him with the exhotation, "Go under the Mercy".
While God's grace deals with sin and forgiveness,
God's mercy deals with the pain pf human existence. We all experience pain
- sometimes as a natural result of wrongs we have done, sometimes unfairly
as a consequence of living in a fallen world.
But for all who hurt, God provides
mercy - respite from pain, and the assurance of a Lord who cares.
David , in Psalm 13 says " I trust in your mercy, your unfailing love."
God's love never fail us, no matter how much we may have failed him.
David knew the consequences of sin; he knew what it meant to fail God,
to rebel against God's faithfulness. Yet David trusted in God's Goodness
rather than depending upon his own; he focused his attention upon the
mercy of the Lord.
We need, like David, to "Go under the mercy", even when it is a "severe mercy."
Even when circumstances seem bad; even when things seem out of control; even
when we think God has forsaken us, yet his mercy is at work to bring us
fulfillment and cause us to turn to him
with a song of praise on our lips.
Application

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.
- for current workers among Muslims to be blessed, refreshed and encouraged

Turkey has played a significant role in God's redemptive history. It's where
Noah's ark came to rest and where the followers of Jesus were first
called Christians.
The church in Turkey thrived for centuries, but Muslim conquests changed
that. Today, being a Turk means being a Muslim. Turkey is one of the least
evangelized countries in the world. Only 0.04 percent of its population
of about 84 million people are Evangelical believers.
Passionate to see more Turks come to Christ, believers launched
the Bible Correspondence Course (BCC) decades ago. That program has
since distributed millions of pieces of Christian literature through
various platforms, including internet ads, Facebook ads, and Twitter posts.
Many of Turkey's Evangelical Christians can trace their spiritual
journey to these courses.
"I was prejudiced against Christianity," said Nehir, a believer from
a Muslim background who saw an ad on Facebook and requested a Bible course.
"But Jesus called me, and I couldn't do anything except invite Him in."
Now baptised, she shares her faith with other Turks.
Yusuf, a 36-year-old Turk, signed up for the BCC program after seeking
the truth about contradictions in Islam.
"I want to truly know God," he said. "This desire has burned like
an ember in my heart. I want to quench the fire and witness,
knowing that God loves me. I hope the Bible you send me will
be the remedy for this."
Pray that God will use social media and Bible correspondence
courses to reach more Turks like Nehir and Yusuf.
Ask God to continue drawing Turkish people to Himself through His holy Word.
Pray for more laborers to follow up with Turks who enrolled in Bible correspondence courses (Matthew 9:37).

but the laborers are few.

Pray that God would raise up leaders in all aspects of Turkish society to disciple others and see lives transformed for generations to come (Deuteronomy 11:18-19).

and for all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life

acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all
men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Pray to the Lord and pray to expand your godly influence and thank Him for
His ordering of history.
