Acts 9
The Conversion of Saul
Ac 22:6-16; 26:12-18
1 (Ac 8:3; Ps 27:12) Saul, still breathing out threats and murder
against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
2 (Ac 19:9; 19:23) and requested letters from him to the synagogues
of Damascus, so that if he found any there of the Way, either men or women,
he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
3 (1Co 15:8; Ac 22:6) As he went he drew near Damascus, and suddenly a light
from heaven shone around him.
4 (Isa 63:9; Zec 2:8) He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?"
5 He said, "Who are You, Lord?"
The Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you
to kick against the goads."
6 Trembling and astonished, he said, "Lord, what will You have me do?"
The Lord said to him, "Rise up and go into the city,
and you will be told what you must do."
7 (Ac 22:9; Da 10:7; Jn 12:29) The men traveling with him stood speechless,
hearing the voice, but seeing no one.
8 (Ac 22:11; 9:18) Saul rose up from the ground. And when his eyes were opened,
he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
9 (Est 4:16) For three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
10 (Ac 10:3; 22:12) A disciple named Ananias was in Damascus.
The Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias."
He said, "Here I am, Lord."
11 (Ac 21:39; 22:3) The Lord said to him, "Rise and go to Straight Street,
and inquire at Judas' house for someone named Saul of Tarsus,
for he is praying,
12 (Mk 5:23) and has seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in
and putting his hand on him, so that he may see again."
13 (Ac 8:3; 9:1) Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about
this man, how many evil things he has done to Your saints at Jerusalem.
14 (Ac 9:21; 7:59) And here he has authority from the chief priests
to bind all who call on Your name."
15 (Ac 13:2; Eph 3:7-8) But the Lord said to him, "Go your way.
For this man is a chosen vessel of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles
and their kings, and before the sons of Israel.
16 (Ac 21:11; 2Co 11:23-27) For I will show him how much he must suffer
for My name's sake."
17 (Ac 2:4; 6:6) Then Ananias went his way and entered the house.
Putting his hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus,
who appeared to you on the way as you came, has sent me so that
you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
18 (Ac 22:16) Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes,
and he could see again. And he rose up and was baptized.
19 (Ac 26:20) When he had eaten, he was strengthened.
Saul Preaches in Damascus
For several days Saul was with the disciples in Damascus.
20 Immediately he preached in the synagogues
that the Christ is the Son of God.
21 (Ac 8:3; 9:13-14) All who heard him were amazed and said,
"Is not this he who killed those who called on this name in Jerusalem,
and came here with that intent, to bring them bound to the chief priests?"
22 (Ac 18:5) Yet Saul increased all the more with power
and confounded the Jews living in Damascus,
proving that this One is the Christ.
Saul Escapes from the Jews
23 After many days had passed, the Jews arranged to kill him.
24 (Ac 25:3; 2Co 11:32) But their scheme was known by Saul.
They watched the gates day and night to kill him.
25 (2Co 11:33; Jos 2:15) But the disciples took him by night,
and lowered him in a basket through the wall.
Saul in Jerusalem
26 (Ac 26:20) When Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples.
But they all feared him, not believing he was a disciple.
27 (Ac 4:36; 4:29) But Barnabas took him, and led him to the apostles,
and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord,
and that He had spoken to him, and how he had boldly preached
in Damascus in the name of Jesus.
28 (Ac 1:21) So he stayed with them while coming in
and going out of Jerusalem.
29 (Ac 6:1; 2Co 11:26) And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus
and disputed against the Hellenists. But they tried to kill him.
30 (Ac 8:40; 9:11) When the brothers learned this, they brought him down
to Caesarea, and sent him off to Tarsus.
31 (Ac 8:1; Ne 5:9) Then the churches throughout all Judea and Galilee
and Samaria had peace and were built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord
and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
The Healing of Aeneas
32 (Ac 9:13; 8:25) As Peter passed through every region,
he came down also to the saints who lived in Lydda.
33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years
and was paralyzed.
34 (Ac 3:6; 3:16) Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you.
Rise up and make your bed." And immediately he rose up.
35 (1Ch 5:16; Ac 11:21) All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him
and turned to the Lord.
Dorcas Restored to Life
36 (2Ch 2:16; Ezr 3:7) In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha,
which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and almsgiving.
37 (Ac 1:13; 20:8) In those days she became ill and died. And when they had
washed her, they placed her in an upper room.
38 (Ac 9:36) Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter
was there, sent two men to him, pleading, "Do not delay to come to us."
39 Peter rose up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him into
the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping,
and showing the tunics and garments
which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
40 (Mt 9:25; Ac 7:60) Peter put them all outside and knelt down and prayed.
And turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise." She opened her eyes,
and when she saw Peter she sat up.
41 (Ac 6:1) He gave her his hand and lifted her up. And when he had called
the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
42 (Jn 11:45; 12:11) It became known throughout all Joppa,
and many believed in the Lord.
43 (Ac 10:6; 10:32) He remained in Joppa for many days with Simon, a tanner.
Acts 10
Peter and Cornelius
1 (Ac 27:1; 8:40) In Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, the centurion
[Commander with the rank of captain over 100 soldiers.] of a band of soldiers
called the Italian Detachment,
2 (Ac 10:22; 13:16; 13:26) a devout man and one who feared God with
all his household, who gave many alms to the people and continually
prayed to God.
3 (Ac 3:1; 5:19) About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision
an angel of God coming in and saying to him, "Cornelius."
4 (Heb 6:10; Ps 141:2) When he looked at him he was afraid, and said,
"What is it, Lord?"
He said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have come up as a memorial
before God.
5 Now send men to Joppa, and bring back Simon whose surname is Peter.
6 (Ac 9:43) He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.
He will tell you what you must do."
7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed,
Cornelius called two of his household servants
and a devout soldier from among those who continually waited on him.
8 When he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 (Ps 55:17; Zep 1:5) The next day as they went on their journey a
nd drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray
about the sixth hour.
10 (Ac 22:17) He became very hungry and desired to eat.
But while they prepared a meal, he fell into a trance
11 (Jn 1:51) and saw heaven opened, and a vessel like a great sheet,
tied at the four corners, descending to him, and let down to the earth.
12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth and wild beasts
and reptiles and birds of the air.
13 Then a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat."
14 (Eze 4:14; Lev 20:25) Peter said, "Not at all, Lord.
For I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean."
15 (Mt 15:11; 1Co 10:25) The voice spoke to him a second time:
"What God has cleansed, do not call common."
16 This happened three times. And again the vessel was taken up into heaven.

17 Now while Peter wondered what this vision which he had seen might mean,
the men who were sent by Cornelius had inquired for Simon's house
and stood at the gate,
18 and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, was lodging there.
19 (Ac 8:29) While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him,
"Three men are looking for you.
20 (Ac 15:7-9) So rise and go down, and go with them, doubting nothing.
For I have sent them."
21 Then Peter went down to the men who were sent to him by Cornelius
and said, "Here I am, the one you are seeking. Why have you come?"
22 (Ac 11:14; 10:2) They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a man who
is righteous and fears God and is of good report throughout the nation
of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house
to hear your words."
23 (Ac 10:45; 11:12) Then he invited them in and gave them lodging.
The next day Peter went with them,
and some brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
24 And the next day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them
and had called together his relatives and close friends.
25 (Mt 8:2; Da 2:46) As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him
and fell down at his feet and worshipped him.
26 (Rev 19:10) But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up. I myself am a man."
27 (Ac 10:24) As he talked with him, he went in and found many who had come
together.
28 (Jn 4:9; 18:28) He said to them, "You know how unlawful it is for a Jew
to visit or approach a foreigner. But God has shown me not to call any man
common or unclean.
29 So when I was sent for, I came without question.
Therefore I ask why you have sent for me."
30 (Ac 10:3; 1:10) Cornelius said, "Four days ago I was fasting until
this hour. At the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and suddenly a man
stood before me in bright clothing,
31 (Ac 10:4) and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard,
and your alms are remembered before God.
32 Therefore send to Joppa for Simon, whose surname is Peter.
He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.
When he comes, he will speak to you.'
33 So Âimmediately I sent for you, and you have done well to come.
Now therefore we are all here, present before God,
to hear everything the Lord has commanded you."
Peter Speaks in Cornelius' House
34 (Dt 10:17; 2Ch 19:7) Then Peter began to speak, saying,
"Truthfully, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.
35 (Ac 10:2; 15:9) But in every nation he who fears Him
and works righteousness is accepted by Him.
36 (Mt 28:18; Ac 2:36) The word which He sent to the children of Israel,
preaching peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all,
37 the word, which you know, that was proclaimed throughout all Judea,
beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:
38 (Lk 4:18; Jn 3:2) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit
and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed
by the devil, for God was with Him.
39 (Lk 24:48; Ac 10:41) "We are witnesses of all that He did both in the land
of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.
40 (Ac 2:24) But God raised Him on the third day and presented Him publicly,
41 (Jn 14:22; Ac 10:39) not to all the people,
but to witnesses previously chosen by God,
to us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.
42 (Ac 17:31; 2Ti 4:1) He commanded us to preach to the people
and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be the
Judge of the living and the dead.
43 (Ac 15:9; Isa 53:11) To Him all the prophets bear witness that whoever
believes in Him will receive remission of sins through His name."
Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit
44 (Ac 11:15; 15:8) While Peter was still speaking these words,
the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
45 (Ac 10:23; 2:38) All the believers of the circumcision who had come
with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been
poured out even on the Gentiles.
46 (Ac 2:4; 19:6) For they heard them speaking in other tongues
and magnifying God.
Then Peter continued,
47 (Ac 8:36) "Can anyone forbid water for baptizing these,
who have received the Holy Spirit as we have?"
48 (Ac 2:38; 8:16; 1Co 1:13-17) So he commanded them to be baptized
in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Isaiah 43:1–4
Isaiah 43
The Redeemer of Israel
1 (Isa 43:7; 44:2) But now, thus says the Lord
who created you, O Jacob,
and He who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
2 (Ps 66:12; Da 3:25-27) When you pass through waters,
I will be with you.
And through the rivers,
they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire,
you shall not be burned,
nor shall the flame kindle on you.
3 (Ex 20:2; Pr 21:18) For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I gave Egypt for your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
4 (Ex 19:5-6) Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honorable,
and I have loved you;
therefore, I will give men for you,
and people for your life.
As a child, Tenny felt insecure. He sought approval from his father,
but he never received it. It seemed that whatever he did,
whether in school or at home, it was never good enough.
Even when he entered adulthood, the insecurity remained.
He continually wondered, Am I good enough?
Only when Tenny received Jesus as his Savior did he find the security
and approval he'd long yearned for. He learned that God-having created
him-loved and cherished him as His son. Tenny finally could live with
the confidence that he was truly valued and appreciated.
In Isaiah 43:1-4, God told His chosen people that, having formed them,
He would use His power and love to redeem them.
"You are precious and honored in my sight," He proclaimed.
He would act on their behalf because He loved them (v. 4).
The value God places on those He loves doesn't come from anything we do,
but from the simple and powerful truth that He’s chosen us to be His own.
These words in Isaiah 43 not only gave Tenny great security,
but also empowered him with the confidence to do his best for God
in whatever task he was called to do. Today he's a pastor who does
all he can to encourage others with this life-giving truth: we're
accepted and approved in Jesus. May we confidently live out this truth today.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 4 - Arming for Battle
Joshua 1:8
8 (Ps 19:14; 119:15) This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth.
Meditate on it day and night so that you may act carefully according
to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful,
and you will be wise.
When God spoke these words to Joshua, the young leader's prospects for
"prosperity" and "success" were far from promising. Upon Moses' death,
Joshua was appointed to lead Israel into the Promised Land, to claim
the territory and establish a nation under God's rule.
Joshua was afraid, and for good reason. The people were rebellious
and intractable. And "claiming the land" meant battling many strong enemies.
Yet God told Joshua that his strength would come not in preparing for battle,
but in preparing for battle, but in preparing himself by meditating
on and applying God's word to his life.
We, too, face difficult battles as we seek to enter the "Promised Land"
of God's peace and presence. But his promise is the same as it was to Joshua:
through obedience to the Word, we can find prosperity and success.
God's promise does not necessarily mean financial prosperity
or material success. These victories may come as well, but God's primary
purpose for his people is spiritual success - the victory and joy of living
in fellowship with him. We can be enriched in the knowledge of God and
find power to overcome the enemies of sin and self. The way may not be easy
- after all, there is no victory without conflict - but God promises
that we will succeed as we look to him.
Application
a) What image do I have a personal "Promised Land" that I long
to enter and claim as my own?
b) What enemies will I need to battle in order to enter that land?
c) How can meditation on the Word of God and obedience to him bring me
prosperity and success?

As of Autumn 2014, St. John's does not have a local CNMM network. Pray with us
for God's people to come together in prayer and cooperative efforts to reach Muslims with the Good News.
St. John's has one mosque and 2 more musallas , or prayer locations, which
may grow into mosques of their own. The mosque is called Masjid an Noor,
The Mosque of the Light, and mosque historical documents record a trip in 1986
to Saudi Arabia to raise funds for the land purchase and construction costs.
A small number of Muslim families had come prior to 1964, but moved on to
other places after a short time. After this date, a small community began
to remain and grow , reaching about 25 families in the 1980s. A number
of international students also join the community annually
ranging from 25 to 60.
In 2014 the mosque website reports the community is made up of some 200
families and many university students attending Memorial University. A
small number of native Newfoundlanders have also converted to the Islamic
faith, one saying of this religion in Newfoundland, "Islam is a growing face".
With the growth of the community, the current challenge is lack of space
in the mosque, which they are now looking at expanding.
Pray for
- The true Light of life, Jesus Christ, to be revealed to Muslims
in Newfoundland through the word, dreams, visions and answers to prayer.
- Christians to be as "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" regarding
Islam and reaching out in loving witness to Muslims in St. John's.
- for a dedicated, intentional witness to the growing number of Muslim
students on the university, college and trade school campuses.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

that God's Spirit would influence
then to act justly,

prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good
and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
II) Pray for the churches of the province,
that they would be lighthouses
beaming forth the illuminating truth of God's Word.
III) Pray that the Lord would use
the Finding the Hope Campaign
and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus

Conclusion:
Pray to the Lord and pray for those who persecute you to come to the Lord
AND pray for all nations to come to know Him as Saviour and Righteousness.
Pray to the Lord "Heavenly Father, I know You love me, accept me,
and cherish me. Thank You for adopting me as Your child
and loving me without conditions."
Pray to the Lord and pray to ask Him to help you meditate on the Word.
Pray to the Lord and pray to be better stewards of everything He has given you.
Pray to the Lord and pray to give Him all your temptations.
Pray for in Newfoundland and Labrador

Acts 9
The Conversion of Saul
Ac 22:6-16; 26:12-18
1 (Ac 8:3; Ps 27:12) Saul, still breathing out threats and murder
against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,
2 (Ac 19:9; 19:23) and requested letters from him to the synagogues
of Damascus, so that if he found any there of the Way, either men or women,
he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
3 (1Co 15:8; Ac 22:6) As he went he drew near Damascus, and suddenly a light
from heaven shone around him.
4 (Isa 63:9; Zec 2:8) He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?"
5 He said, "Who are You, Lord?"
The Lord said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. It is hard for you
to kick against the goads."
6 Trembling and astonished, he said, "Lord, what will You have me do?"
The Lord said to him, "Rise up and go into the city,
and you will be told what you must do."
7 (Ac 22:9; Da 10:7; Jn 12:29) The men traveling with him stood speechless,
hearing the voice, but seeing no one.
8 (Ac 22:11; 9:18) Saul rose up from the ground. And when his eyes were opened,
he saw nothing. So they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.
9 (Est 4:16) For three days he was without sight, and neither ate nor drank.
10 (Ac 10:3; 22:12) A disciple named Ananias was in Damascus.
The Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias."
He said, "Here I am, Lord."
11 (Ac 21:39; 22:3) The Lord said to him, "Rise and go to Straight Street,
and inquire at Judas' house for someone named Saul of Tarsus,
for he is praying,
12 (Mk 5:23) and has seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in
and putting his hand on him, so that he may see again."
13 (Ac 8:3; 9:1) Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard from many about
this man, how many evil things he has done to Your saints at Jerusalem.
14 (Ac 9:21; 7:59) And here he has authority from the chief priests
to bind all who call on Your name."
15 (Ac 13:2; Eph 3:7-8) But the Lord said to him, "Go your way.
For this man is a chosen vessel of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles
and their kings, and before the sons of Israel.
16 (Ac 21:11; 2Co 11:23-27) For I will show him how much he must suffer
for My name's sake."
17 (Ac 2:4; 6:6) Then Ananias went his way and entered the house.
Putting his hands on him, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus,
who appeared to you on the way as you came, has sent me so that
you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
18 (Ac 22:16) Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes,
and he could see again. And he rose up and was baptized.
19 (Ac 26:20) When he had eaten, he was strengthened.
Saul Preaches in Damascus
For several days Saul was with the disciples in Damascus.
20 Immediately he preached in the synagogues
that the Christ is the Son of God.
21 (Ac 8:3; 9:13-14) All who heard him were amazed and said,
"Is not this he who killed those who called on this name in Jerusalem,
and came here with that intent, to bring them bound to the chief priests?"
22 (Ac 18:5) Yet Saul increased all the more with power
and confounded the Jews living in Damascus,
proving that this One is the Christ.
Saul Escapes from the Jews
23 After many days had passed, the Jews arranged to kill him.
24 (Ac 25:3; 2Co 11:32) But their scheme was known by Saul.
They watched the gates day and night to kill him.
25 (2Co 11:33; Jos 2:15) But the disciples took him by night,
and lowered him in a basket through the wall.
Saul in Jerusalem
26 (Ac 26:20) When Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples.
But they all feared him, not believing he was a disciple.
27 (Ac 4:36; 4:29) But Barnabas took him, and led him to the apostles,
and declared to them how on the road he had seen the Lord,
and that He had spoken to him, and how he had boldly preached
in Damascus in the name of Jesus.
28 (Ac 1:21) So he stayed with them while coming in
and going out of Jerusalem.
29 (Ac 6:1; 2Co 11:26) And he spoke boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus
and disputed against the Hellenists. But they tried to kill him.
30 (Ac 8:40; 9:11) When the brothers learned this, they brought him down
to Caesarea, and sent him off to Tarsus.
31 (Ac 8:1; Ne 5:9) Then the churches throughout all Judea and Galilee
and Samaria had peace and were built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord
and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
The Healing of Aeneas
32 (Ac 9:13; 8:25) As Peter passed through every region,
he came down also to the saints who lived in Lydda.
33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years
and was paralyzed.
34 (Ac 3:6; 3:16) Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you.
Rise up and make your bed." And immediately he rose up.
35 (1Ch 5:16; Ac 11:21) All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him
and turned to the Lord.
Dorcas Restored to Life
36 (2Ch 2:16; Ezr 3:7) In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha,
which is translated Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and almsgiving.
37 (Ac 1:13; 20:8) In those days she became ill and died. And when they had
washed her, they placed her in an upper room.
38 (Ac 9:36) Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter
was there, sent two men to him, pleading, "Do not delay to come to us."
39 Peter rose up and went with them. When he arrived, they led him into
the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping,
and showing the tunics and garments
which Dorcas had made while she was with them.
40 (Mt 9:25; Ac 7:60) Peter put them all outside and knelt down and prayed.
And turning to the body he said, "Tabitha, arise." She opened her eyes,
and when she saw Peter she sat up.
41 (Ac 6:1) He gave her his hand and lifted her up. And when he had called
the saints and widows, he presented her alive.
42 (Jn 11:45; 12:11) It became known throughout all Joppa,
and many believed in the Lord.
43 (Ac 10:6; 10:32) He remained in Joppa for many days with Simon, a tanner.
Acts 10
Peter and Cornelius
1 (Ac 27:1; 8:40) In Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, the centurion
[Commander with the rank of captain over 100 soldiers.] of a band of soldiers
called the Italian Detachment,
2 (Ac 10:22; 13:16; 13:26) a devout man and one who feared God with
all his household, who gave many alms to the people and continually
prayed to God.
3 (Ac 3:1; 5:19) About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision
an angel of God coming in and saying to him, "Cornelius."
4 (Heb 6:10; Ps 141:2) When he looked at him he was afraid, and said,
"What is it, Lord?"
He said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have come up as a memorial
before God.
5 Now send men to Joppa, and bring back Simon whose surname is Peter.
6 (Ac 9:43) He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.
He will tell you what you must do."
7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed,
Cornelius called two of his household servants
and a devout soldier from among those who continually waited on him.
8 When he had explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.
9 (Ps 55:17; Zep 1:5) The next day as they went on their journey a
nd drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray
about the sixth hour.
10 (Ac 22:17) He became very hungry and desired to eat.
But while they prepared a meal, he fell into a trance
11 (Jn 1:51) and saw heaven opened, and a vessel like a great sheet,
tied at the four corners, descending to him, and let down to the earth.
12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth and wild beasts
and reptiles and birds of the air.
13 Then a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat."
14 (Eze 4:14; Lev 20:25) Peter said, "Not at all, Lord.
For I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean."
15 (Mt 15:11; 1Co 10:25) The voice spoke to him a second time:
"What God has cleansed, do not call common."
16 This happened three times. And again the vessel was taken up into heaven.

17 Now while Peter wondered what this vision which he had seen might mean,
the men who were sent by Cornelius had inquired for Simon's house
and stood at the gate,
18 and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, was lodging there.
19 (Ac 8:29) While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him,
"Three men are looking for you.
20 (Ac 15:7-9) So rise and go down, and go with them, doubting nothing.
For I have sent them."
21 Then Peter went down to the men who were sent to him by Cornelius
and said, "Here I am, the one you are seeking. Why have you come?"
22 (Ac 11:14; 10:2) They said, "Cornelius, a centurion, a man who
is righteous and fears God and is of good report throughout the nation
of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house
to hear your words."
23 (Ac 10:45; 11:12) Then he invited them in and gave them lodging.
The next day Peter went with them,
and some brothers from Joppa accompanied him.
24 And the next day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them
and had called together his relatives and close friends.
25 (Mt 8:2; Da 2:46) As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him
and fell down at his feet and worshipped him.
26 (Rev 19:10) But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up. I myself am a man."
27 (Ac 10:24) As he talked with him, he went in and found many who had come
together.
28 (Jn 4:9; 18:28) He said to them, "You know how unlawful it is for a Jew
to visit or approach a foreigner. But God has shown me not to call any man
common or unclean.
29 So when I was sent for, I came without question.
Therefore I ask why you have sent for me."
30 (Ac 10:3; 1:10) Cornelius said, "Four days ago I was fasting until
this hour. At the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and suddenly a man
stood before me in bright clothing,
31 (Ac 10:4) and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard,
and your alms are remembered before God.
32 Therefore send to Joppa for Simon, whose surname is Peter.
He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.
When he comes, he will speak to you.'
33 So Âimmediately I sent for you, and you have done well to come.
Now therefore we are all here, present before God,
to hear everything the Lord has commanded you."
Peter Speaks in Cornelius' House
34 (Dt 10:17; 2Ch 19:7) Then Peter began to speak, saying,
"Truthfully, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons.
35 (Ac 10:2; 15:9) But in every nation he who fears Him
and works righteousness is accepted by Him.
36 (Mt 28:18; Ac 2:36) The word which He sent to the children of Israel,
preaching peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all,
37 the word, which you know, that was proclaimed throughout all Judea,
beginning from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:
38 (Lk 4:18; Jn 3:2) how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit
and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed
by the devil, for God was with Him.
39 (Lk 24:48; Ac 10:41) "We are witnesses of all that He did both in the land
of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.
40 (Ac 2:24) But God raised Him on the third day and presented Him publicly,
41 (Jn 14:22; Ac 10:39) not to all the people,
but to witnesses previously chosen by God,
to us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.
42 (Ac 17:31; 2Ti 4:1) He commanded us to preach to the people
and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be the
Judge of the living and the dead.
43 (Ac 15:9; Isa 53:11) To Him all the prophets bear witness that whoever
believes in Him will receive remission of sins through His name."
Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit
44 (Ac 11:15; 15:8) While Peter was still speaking these words,
the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.
45 (Ac 10:23; 2:38) All the believers of the circumcision who had come
with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been
poured out even on the Gentiles.
46 (Ac 2:4; 19:6) For they heard them speaking in other tongues
and magnifying God.
Then Peter continued,
47 (Ac 8:36) "Can anyone forbid water for baptizing these,
who have received the Holy Spirit as we have?"
48 (Ac 2:38; 8:16; 1Co 1:13-17) So he commanded them to be baptized
in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Isaiah 43:1–4
Isaiah 43
The Redeemer of Israel
1 (Isa 43:7; 44:2) But now, thus says the Lord
who created you, O Jacob,
and He who formed you, O Israel:
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name; you are Mine.
2 (Ps 66:12; Da 3:25-27) When you pass through waters,
I will be with you.
And through the rivers,
they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire,
you shall not be burned,
nor shall the flame kindle on you.
3 (Ex 20:2; Pr 21:18) For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I gave Egypt for your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
4 (Ex 19:5-6) Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honorable,
and I have loved you;
therefore, I will give men for you,
and people for your life.
As a child, Tenny felt insecure. He sought approval from his father,
but he never received it. It seemed that whatever he did,
whether in school or at home, it was never good enough.
Even when he entered adulthood, the insecurity remained.
He continually wondered, Am I good enough?
Only when Tenny received Jesus as his Savior did he find the security
and approval he'd long yearned for. He learned that God-having created
him-loved and cherished him as His son. Tenny finally could live with
the confidence that he was truly valued and appreciated.
In Isaiah 43:1-4, God told His chosen people that, having formed them,
He would use His power and love to redeem them.
"You are precious and honored in my sight," He proclaimed.
He would act on their behalf because He loved them (v. 4).
The value God places on those He loves doesn't come from anything we do,
but from the simple and powerful truth that He’s chosen us to be His own.
These words in Isaiah 43 not only gave Tenny great security,
but also empowered him with the confidence to do his best for God
in whatever task he was called to do. Today he's a pastor who does
all he can to encourage others with this life-giving truth: we're
accepted and approved in Jesus. May we confidently live out this truth today.

Week 1 Knowing God's Word Day 4 - Arming for Battle
Joshua 1:8
8 (Ps 19:14; 119:15) This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth.
Meditate on it day and night so that you may act carefully according
to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful,
and you will be wise.
When God spoke these words to Joshua, the young leader's prospects for
"prosperity" and "success" were far from promising. Upon Moses' death,
Joshua was appointed to lead Israel into the Promised Land, to claim
the territory and establish a nation under God's rule.
Joshua was afraid, and for good reason. The people were rebellious
and intractable. And "claiming the land" meant battling many strong enemies.
Yet God told Joshua that his strength would come not in preparing for battle,
but in preparing for battle, but in preparing himself by meditating
on and applying God's word to his life.
We, too, face difficult battles as we seek to enter the "Promised Land"
of God's peace and presence. But his promise is the same as it was to Joshua:
through obedience to the Word, we can find prosperity and success.
God's promise does not necessarily mean financial prosperity
or material success. These victories may come as well, but God's primary
purpose for his people is spiritual success - the victory and joy of living
in fellowship with him. We can be enriched in the knowledge of God and
find power to overcome the enemies of sin and self. The way may not be easy
- after all, there is no victory without conflict - but God promises
that we will succeed as we look to him.
Application
a) What image do I have a personal "Promised Land" that I long
to enter and claim as my own?
b) What enemies will I need to battle in order to enter that land?
c) How can meditation on the Word of God and obedience to him bring me
prosperity and success?

As of Autumn 2014, St. John's does not have a local CNMM network. Pray with us
for God's people to come together in prayer and cooperative efforts to reach Muslims with the Good News.
St. John's has one mosque and 2 more musallas , or prayer locations, which
may grow into mosques of their own. The mosque is called Masjid an Noor,
The Mosque of the Light, and mosque historical documents record a trip in 1986
to Saudi Arabia to raise funds for the land purchase and construction costs.
A small number of Muslim families had come prior to 1964, but moved on to
other places after a short time. After this date, a small community began
to remain and grow , reaching about 25 families in the 1980s. A number
of international students also join the community annually
ranging from 25 to 60.
In 2014 the mosque website reports the community is made up of some 200
families and many university students attending Memorial University. A
small number of native Newfoundlanders have also converted to the Islamic
faith, one saying of this religion in Newfoundland, "Islam is a growing face".
With the growth of the community, the current challenge is lack of space
in the mosque, which they are now looking at expanding.
Pray for
- The true Light of life, Jesus Christ, to be revealed to Muslims
in Newfoundland through the word, dreams, visions and answers to prayer.
- Christians to be as "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" regarding
Islam and reaching out in loving witness to Muslims in St. John's.
- for a dedicated, intentional witness to the growing number of Muslim
students on the university, college and trade school campuses.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

Conclusion:
Pray to the Lord and pray for those who persecute you to come to the Lord
AND pray for all nations to come to know Him as Saviour and Righteousness.
Pray to the Lord "Heavenly Father, I know You love me, accept me,
and cherish me. Thank You for adopting me as Your child
and loving me without conditions."
Pray to the Lord and pray to ask Him to help you meditate on the Word.
Pray to the Lord and pray to be better stewards of everything He has given you.
Pray to the Lord and pray to give Him all your temptations.
