Day 242 - 30 August 2021 reflections
Day 242, 30 August 2021
Ezekiel 16 - 17
Ezekiel 16
Jerusalem as an Adulterous Bride
1 Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 (Eze 22:2; 20:4) Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,
3Eze 16:45; Ge 15:16and say, Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: Your birth
and your nativity are from the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite,
and your mother a Hittite.
4 (Hos 2:3) As for your birth, on the day you were born your navel cord
was not cut, nor were you washed in water to cleanse you. You were not rubbed
with salt, nor wrapped in swaddling cloths.
5 No eye pitied you to do any of these to you, to have compassion on you.
But you were cast out in the open field, to the loathing of your person,
in the day that you were born.
6 When I passed by you and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you
when you were in your blood, "Live!" Indeed, I said to you when you were
in your blood, "Live!"
7 (Ex 1:7; Dt 1:10) I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field,
and you have increased and become tall, and you have reached the age of fine
ornaments. Your breasts were fashioned and your hair had grown,
yet you were naked and bare.
8 (Ru 3:9; Jer 2:2-3) Now when I passed by you and looked upon you, you were
old enough for love. So I spread My garment over you
and covered your nakedness. Indeed, I swore to you, and entered into
a covenant with you, says the Lord God, and you became Mine.
9 (Ru 3:3; Ps 23:5) Then I washed you with water. Indeed, I thoroughly
washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil.
10 (Eze 16:18; 16:13) I clothed you also with embroidered work,
and put sandals of porpoise skin on your feet, and girded you about
with fine linen, and covered you with silk.
11 (Ge 24:22; 24:47; 41:42) I decked you also with ornaments,
and put bracelets on your hands, and a chain on your neck.
12 I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears,
and a beautiful crown on your head.
13 (Dt 32:13-14; 1Ki 4:21) Thus you were decked with gold and silver.
And your raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and embroidered work.
You ate fine flour, and honey, and oil. And you were exceedingly beautiful
and advanced to royalty.
14 (La 2:15; 1Ki 10:24) Then your renown went out among the nations
for your beauty. For it was perfect through My comeliness which I had put
upon you, says the Lord God.
15 (Isa 57:8; Jer 2:20) But you trusted in your own beauty, and played
the harlot because of your renown, and poured out your fornications
on every willing passerby.
16 (2Ki 23:7) Of your garments you took and decked your high places
with various colors and played the harlot on them,
which should never come about or happen.
17 You have also taken your fair jewels made of My gold and My silver,
which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men that
you might commit harlotry with them.
18 Then you took your embroidered garments and covered them.
And you have set My oil and My incense before them.
19 (Eze 16:13) My bread also which I gave you, fine flour, and oil,
and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set before them
for a sweet savour. And thus it was, says the Lord God.
20 (Eze 23:37; Ex 13:2) Moreover you have taken your sons
and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me,
and these you have sacrificed to them to be devoured.
Were your harlotries so small a matter?
21 (2Ki 17:17) You have slain My children and delivered them up
to idols by causing them to pass through the fire.
22 (Jer 2:2; Eze 16:43) Besides all your abominations and your harlotries
you have not remembered the days of your youth when you were naked
and bare and were polluted in your blood.
23 After all your wickedness (Woe, woe to you! says the Lord God)
24 (Ps 78:58; Isa 57:7) you also built for yourself a shrine
and have made yourself a high place in every street.
25 (Jer 3:2; Eze 16:31) You have built yourself a high place
at the head of every street, and have made your beauty to be abhorred,
and have spread your legs to every passerby to multiply your harlotries.
26 (Eze 23:19-21; 20:7-8) You have also committed fornication
with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and increased your harlotries
to provoke Me to anger.
27 (Isa 9:12; Eze 16:57) Therefore I have stretched out My hand against
you and have diminished your ordinary food and delivered you to the will
of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines who are ashamed
of your lewd conduct.
28 (2Ki 16:7; 16:10-18) You have played the harlot also with the Assyrians
because you were insatiable. Indeed, you have played the harlot with them,
and yet could not be satisfied.
29 You have moreover multiplied your fornication with the land of merchants,
Chaldea. And yet you were not satisfied even with this.
30 (Jer 3:3; Pr 9:13) How weak is your heart, says the Lord God,
seeing you do all these things, the works of an imperious harlot.
31 (Isa 52:3; Eze 16:33-34) When you built your shrine at the head
of every street and made your high place in every square, you have not been
as a harlot in that you scorned payment.
32 You have been as a wife who commits adultery, who takes strangers
instead of her husband!
33 (Isa 57:9; Hos 8:9-10) Men give gifts to all harlots.
But you give your gifts to all your lovers, and hire them that they may come
to you on every side for your harlotry.
34 Thus you are different from other women in your harlotries
in that no one follows you to commit harlotries, because you give money,
and no money is given to you. Thus you are different.
35 Therefore, O harlot, hear the word of the Lord.
36 (Eze 23:10) Thus says the Lord God, Because your filthiness
was poured out and your nakedness discovered through your harlotries
with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations,
and by the blood of your children, which you gave to idols,
37 (Jer 13:22; Hos 2:10) therefore I will gather all your lovers with whom
you have taken pleasure and all those whom you have loved with all those
whom you have hated. I will even gather them from all around against you
and will reveal your nakedness to them
so that they may see all your nakedness.
38 (Lev 20:10; Ge 9:6) I will judge you as women who commit adultery
or shed blood are judged. And I will bring on you the blood of fury
and jealousy.
39 (Eze 23:26; Hos 2:3) I will also give you into their hand,
and they shall throw down your shrines, and shall break down your high places.
They shall strip you also of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels,
and leave you naked and bare.
40 (Eze 23:47; Hab 1:6-10) They shall also bring up a company against you,
and they shall stone you with stones,
and thrust you through with their swords.
41 (Eze 23:48; 2Ki 25:9) They shall burn your houses with fire
and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women.
And I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot,
and you also shall give no hire anymore.
42 (Eze 5:13; 39:29) So I will make My fury toward you to rest,
and My jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet,
and will be angry no more.
43 (Eze 16:22; Ps 78:42) Because you have not remembered the days
of your youth, but have enraged Me in all these things,
I also will recompense your way upon your head,
says the Lord God, so that you shall not commit
this lewdness above all your other abominations.
44 (Eze 18:2-3; 1Sa 24:13) Everyone who uses proverbs shall use
this proverb against you, saying, "Like mother, like daughter."
45 (Isa 1:4; Eze 23:37-39) You are your mother's daughter who loathed
her husband and her children. And you are the sister of your sisters
who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite,
and your father an Amorite.
46 (Eze 23:4; 16:48-49) Now your elder sister is Samaria,
she and her daughters who dwell north of you. And your younger sister
who dwells south of you is Sodom and her daughters.
47 (2Ki 21:9; Eze 5:6-7) Yet you have not walked after their ways,
or done according to their abominations. But, as if that were a very
little thing, you were corrupted more than they in all your ways.
48 (Mt 10:15) As I live, says the Lord God, Sodom your sister has not done,
she nor her daughters, as you and your daughters have done.
49 (Ge 13:10; Ps 138:6) This was the iniquity of your sister Sodom. Pride,
abundance of bread, and careless ease was in her and in her daughters,
but she did strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 (Ge 13:13; 18:20) They were haughty and committed abominations before Me.
Therefore I took them away when I saw it.
51 (Jer 3:8-11) Moreover, Samaria did not commit half of your sins.
But you have multiplied your abominations more than they and have made your
sisters appear righteous in all your abominations which you have done.
52 Also bear your own shame in that you have made judgment favorable
to your sisters. Because of your sins that you have committed more abominable
than they, they are more righteous than you. Indeed, be humiliated also
and bear your shame in that you have made your sisters appear righteous.
53 (Isa 19:24-25; Eze 29:14) Yet I shall restore their captivity,
the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria
and her daughters, and along with them your own captivity,
54 (Jer 2:26; Eze 14:22-23) in order that you may bear your own shame
and may be humiliated in all that you have done
in that you are a comfort to them.
55 (Eze 16:53; 36:11) Your sisters, Sodom and her daughters and Samaria
and her daughters, shall return to their former state,
and you and your daughters shall return to your former state.
56 As the name of your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day
of your pride,
57 (2Ki 16:5-7; 2Ch 28:5-6) before your wickedness was uncovered, so now you
have become the reproach of the daughters of Edom and all who are around her,
the daughters of the Philistines, those all around who despise you.
58 (Eze 23:49) You have borne the punishment of your lewdness
and your abominations, says the Lord.
An Everlasting Covenant
59 (Isa 24:5; Eze 17:19) For thus, says the Lord God, I will even deal
with you as you have done, you who have despised the oath
by breaking the covenant.
60 (Lev 26:42; Isa 55:3) Nevertheless I will remember My covenant with you
in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant
with you.
61 (Jer 50:4-5; Eze 20:43) Then you shall remember your ways and be ashamed
when you receive your sisters, your elder and your younger. And I will give
them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant.
62 (Jer 24:7; Eze 6:7) Thus I will establish My covenant with you,
and you shall know that I am the Lord,
63 (Ro 3:19; Ps 39:9) in order that you may remember, and be humiliated,
and never open your mouth anymore because of your shame,
when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done, says the Lord God.
Ezekiel 17
Two Eagles and a Vine
1 And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 (Eze 20:49) Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable
to the house of Israel,
3 (Jer 48:40; Hos 8:1) and say, Thus says the Lord God:
A great eagle with great wings, long-winged, full of feathers which had
various colors, came to Lebanon and took away the highest branch of the cedar.
4 He cropped off the top of its young twigs and carried it into
a land of merchants. He set it in a city of dealers.
5 (Dt 8:7-9; Isa 44:4) He took also some of the seed of the land
and planted it in a fruitful field. He placed it by great waters
and set it as a willow tree.
6 (Eze 17:14) It grew and became a spreading vine of low stature,
whose branches turned toward him, and its roots were under it.
So it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
7 (Eze 17:15; 31:4) There was also another great eagle with great wings
and many feathers. And this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth
its branches toward him, that he might water it by the bed
where it was planted.
8 It was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth
branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a splendid vine.
9 Say: Thus says the Lord God: Will it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots
and cut off its fruit, so that it withers, so that all its spring leaves
wither? It will not take a great power or many people to pull it
from its roots.
10 (Hos 13:15) Though it has been planted, will it prosper? Shall it not
utterly wither when the east wind hits it? It shall wither in the furrows
where it grew.
11 Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
12 (Eze 24:19; 1:2) Say now to the rebellious house: Do you not know
what these things mean? Tell them: The king of Babylon came to Jerusalem,
and took its king and its officials, and led them to him in Babylon.
13 (2Ch 36:13; 2Ki 24:15-17) He took one of the king's seed,
and made a covenant with him, and put him under oath. He has also taken
away the mighty of the land,
14 (Eze 29:14) that the kingdom might be debased, that it might not lift
itself up, but by the keeping of his covenant it might stand.
15 (Dt 17:16; 2Ki 24:20) But he rebelled against him in sending
his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses
and much people. Shall he prosper? Shall he escape who does such things?
Can he indeed break the covenant and be delivered?
16 (Eze 12:13; Jer 52:11) As I live, says the Lord God, surely in the country
of the king who made him king, whose oath he despised and whose covenant
he broke, in the midst of Babylon he shall die.
17 (Jer 37:7; Isa 36:6) Nor shall Pharaoh with his mighty army
and great company help him in the war by casting up mounts
and building forts to cut off many persons.
18 (1Ch 29:24) Seeing he despised the oath by breaking the covenant,
when he had given his allegiance and has done all these things,
he shall not escape.
19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: As I live, surely My oath that he has
despised and My covenant that he has broken, I will inflict upon his own head.
20 (Eze 12:13; Jer 2:35) I will spread My net upon him, and he shall be taken
in My snare, and I will bring him to Babylon and will enter into judgment
with him there for his trespass that he has trespassed against Me.
21 (2Ki 25:5; 25:11) All the choice men in all his troops shall fall
by the sword, and those who remain shall be scattered toward all winds.
And you shall know that I the Lord have spoken it.
22 (Eze 20:40; Ps 2:6) Thus says the Lord God: I will also take of the highest
branch of the high cedar and set it aside. I will crop off from the top
of its young twigs a tender one and will plant it on a high
and lofty mountain.
23 (Eze 31:6; Mt 13:32) On the mountain of the height of Israel I will plant
it. And it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a splendid cedar.
And under it all fowl of every wing shall nest. In the shadow of its branches
they shall nest.
24 (Eze 22:14; Am 9:11) All the trees of the field shall know that I the Lord
have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up
the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish.
I, the Lord, have spoken and will do it.

2 Chronicles 34:1–8
2 Chronicles 34
Josiah, King of Judah
2Ki 22:1-7; 23:4-20
1 (Jer 1:2; Zep 1:1) And Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign,
and he was king for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 (2Ch 29:2) And he did what was correct in the eyes of the Lord, and he
walked in the ways of David his father and did not turn either to the right
or left.
3 (2Ch 15:2; 33:22) And in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still
a young boy, he began to seek out the God of David his father;
and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem
from high places, Asherah poles, idols, and carved and cast images.
4 (Ex 32:20; Lev 26:30) So they tore down the altars for the Baals,
and he cut down the incense altars that were above them
and smashed the Asherah poles and carved and cast images.
And he crushed them to dustandscattered them before the graves
of those who sacrificed to them.
5 (1Ki 13:2) Then he burned the bones of the priests on their altars
and so cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
6 In the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, and Simeon, and as far as Naphtali,
in their ruins all around,
7 (2Ch 31:1; Dt 9:21) he broke down the altars, beat Asherah poles
and the images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout
all the land of Israel. Then he returned to Jerusalem.
8 (2Sa 8:16) In the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land
and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, Maaseiah the governor
of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz, the recorder, to repair the house
of the Lord his God.
A stately sunflower stood on its own in the center of a lonely stretch
of national highway, just a few feet from the fast lane. As I drove past,
I wondered how it had grown there with no other sunflowers visible for miles.
Only God could create a plant so hardy it could thrive so close
to the roadway in the gray gravel lining the median. There it was, thriving,
swaying gently in the breeze and cheerfully greeting travelers
as they hurried by.
The Old Testament tells the story of a faithful king of Judah who also showed
up unexpectedly. His father and grandfather had enthusiastically served
other gods; but after Josiah had been in power for eight years,
"while he was still young,
he began to seek the God of his father David" (2 Chronicles 34:3).
He sent workmen to "repair the temple of the Lord" (v. 8), and as they did
they discovered the Book of the Law (the first five books of the Old Testament;
v. 14). God then inspired Josiah to lead the entire nation of Judah
to return to the faith of their ancestors, and they served the Lord
"as long as [Josiah] lived" (v. 33).
Our God is the master of unanticipated mercies. He's able to cause great good
to spring up unexpectedly out of the hard gravel of life's most unfavorable
circumstances. Watch Him closely. He may do it again today.

Reflect & Pray
What mercies have you seen from God that you never anticipated?
How does the thought that He's able to bring about unexpected good
give you hope today?
Heavenly Father, I praise You for never changing.
Your mercies are "new every
morning!" (Lamentations 3:23). Help me to look forward to what
You have for me today.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 2 - The key to the Prison Cell
Matt 6:14-15
14 For if you forgive men for their sins, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men for their sins,
neither will your Father forgive your sins.
Ann had been badly wounded in a relationship that had ended in anger
and accusation. For more than a year, Ann nursed her bitterness, rallying
support for her attitudes from friends and colleagues. Any time she saw
her former friend, Ann put up an icy wall of hostility. She thought she was
"getting over" the hurt, but the very mention of her friend's name brought
back a flood of negative feelings. Ann was trapped, locked in a prison of
unforgiveness , a jail built block by block by her own unwillingness to
forgive. Ann didn't "get over it"; instead, her wounds festered
and her bitterness grew worse.
Then one day - she never knew how - Ann let go of her bitterness. The barriers
of hostility and anger melted away, and when she saw her firend again, she was
able to forgive. And Ann was finally able to turn to the Lord for her own
healing and forgiveness.
"If you fo not forgive," Jesus says - and the statement falls hard on
unforgiving hearts, "Neither weill you be forgiven." In one sense, God's
forgiveness is unconditional - we do not have to earn or deserve it, and it is
always available to us. But we cannot experience the forgiveness God has
extended to us when we harbour unforgiveness towards others and build walls
of bitterness in our hearts.
When we refuse forgiveness toward those who have hurt or betrayed us, we do
not keep them in bondage, but ourselves. We lock ourselves away for an
awareness of God's loving presence; we imprison ourselves in a cell of
revenge. But when we reach out to forgive, we turn in the lock;
the door is open for our own sins to be forgiven and our own hearts
cleansed and purified.
Application
a) Why is forgiving others a condition for experiencing forgiveness in my own
life?
b) How can these verses have a practical effect upon my willingness
to forgive others?
4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland
2 Cor 9:6
6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:
When you are Worried Over Money
1 Tim 6:6-10
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain
that we can carry nothing out. 8 If we have food and clothing,
we shall be content with these things. 9 But those who desire
to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and into many foolish
and harmful lusts, which drown men in ruin and destruction.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil.
While coveting after money, some have strayed from the faith
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim
population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the buliding that was formerly a Baptist
chruch was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton
also has a Muslim studentt association hosting prayer services, fellowship
getherings, and outreaches on campus.
Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student assoication serving the
campusus of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.
Fredericton's MUslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,
and between 300 to 400 university students.
Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,
which also helped foster the Islamic asociations of Fredericton and Moncton.
a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,
has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow
into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has
been primarily for university students moving into the area.
Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick
- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened
to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened
to sharing God's love in JEsus Christ with them
- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these
areas of concentration
- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,
and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020
Under the Keep Praying page
When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.
15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,
since it is the third hour of the day.
16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

2 Chronicles 34
Josiah, King of Judah
2Ki 22:1-7; 23:4-20
1 (Jer 1:2; Zep 1:1) And Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign,
and he was king for thirty-one years in Jerusalem.
2 (2Ch 29:2) And he did what was correct in the eyes of the Lord, and he
walked in the ways of David his father and did not turn either to the right
or left.
3 (2Ch 15:2; 33:22) And in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still
a young boy, he began to seek out the God of David his father;
and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem
from high places, Asherah poles, idols, and carved and cast images.
8), and as they did
they discovered the Book of the Law (the first five books of the Old Testament;

We lock ourselves away for an
awareness of God's loving presence; we imprison ourselves in a cell of
revenge. But when we reach out to forgive, we turn in the lock;
the door is open for our own sins to be forgiven and our own hearts
cleansed and purified.
Application
a) Why is forgiving others a condition for experiencing forgiveness in my own
life?
b) How can these verses have a practical effect upon my willingness
to forgive others?

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,
'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams.'
