2 King 24-25 ; 2 Chron 36



2 Kings 24



Judah Overrun by Enemies



1 (Jer 25:1; Da 1:1) In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up,

and Jehoiakim became his servant for three years. Then he turned

and rebelled against him.

2 (Jer 35:11; 2Ki 23:27; 6:23) The Lord sent against him bands of

Chaldeans, bands of Arameans, bands of Moabites, and bands of Ammonites.

He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word

of the Lord that He spoke by His servants the prophets.

3 (2Ki 18:25) Surely at the decree of the Lord this came upon Judah,

to remove them from before Him, for the sins of Manasseh, according to all

that he had done,

4 (2Ki 21:16) and also for the innocent blood that he had shed, for he

filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the Lord was not willing to pardon.

5 (2Ch 36:8) Now the rest of the deeds of Jehoiakim and all that he did,

are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?

6 (Jer 22:18-19; 2Ch 36:6) So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers,

and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.

7 (Jer 37:5-7; 46:2) The king of Egypt did not come again from his land,

for the king of Babylon had taken over from the Brook of Egypt to the River

Euphrates all that belonged to the king of Egypt.



Jehoiachin, King of Judah



2Ch 36:9-10



8 (1Ch 3:16; 2Ch 36:9) Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king.

He reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother's name was Ne­hushta

daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem.

9 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done.

10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against

Jerusalem, and the city was under siege.

11 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up to the city while his servants were

besieging it,

12 (Jer 24:1; 52:28) and Jehoiachin king of Judah went out

to the king of Babylon, he, his mother, his servants, his princes,

and his eunuchs. The king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.



The Captivity of Jerusalem



13 (2Ki 20:17; Isa 39:6) He brought out from there all the treasures

of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house, and cut

in pieces all the implements of gold in the temple of the Lord,

which Solomon king of Israel had made, just as the Lord had spoken.

14 (2Ki 25:12; Jer 52:28) He exiled all Jerusalem, all the princes,

and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen

and smiths. No one remained, except the poorest people of the land.

15 (2Ch 36:10; Est 2:6) He exiled Jehoiachin in Babylon. The king's mother,

the king's wives, his eunuchs, and the elite of the land he took into exile

from Jerusalem to Babylon.

16 (Jer 52:28) All the fighting men, 7000, the craftsmen and smiths, 1000,

all those strong and fit for war the king of Babylon brought them into exile

in Babylon.

17(Jer 37:1; 2Ki 23:34) The king of Babylon made Mattaniah,

the uncle of Jehoiachin, king in his place and changed his name to Zedekiah.



Zedekiah, King of Judah



2Ch 36:11-16; Jer 52:1-3

18 (2Ki 23:31; Jer 52:1-11) Zedekiah was 21 years old when he became king.

He reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal

daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

19 (2Ki 23:37) He did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that

Jehoiakim had done.

20 (2Ch 36:13) Because of the anger of the Lord this happened

in Jerusalem and Judah until He threw them out from His presence.

But Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.



2 Kings 25



The Fall and Exile of Judah



Jer 39:1-10; 40:7-9; 41:1-18; 52:4-27; 2Ch36:17-20

1 (Jer 34:1-6; 52:4-11) In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month,

on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came,

he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and set up camp near it.

They built siege mounds against it all around.

2 The city came under siege until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

3 On the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was severe in the city,

and there was no food for the people of the land.

4 (Eze 33:21) The city was breached, and all the fighting men fled

by night by the way of thegate between the two walls,

which is by the king's garden, though the Chaldeans were all around the city.

They went along the way of the Arabah.

5 Then the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook him

in the plains of Jericho. All his army deserted him.

6 (2Ki 23:33; Jer 34:21-22) So they captured the king

and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah,

and they passed sentence upon him.

7 (Jer 32:4-5; 39:6-7) They slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes,

and put out the eyes of Zedekiah. They bound him with bronze fetters

and brought him to Babylon.

8 (Jer 52:12-16) In the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month

(that was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon),

Nebuzaradan, the captain of the bodyguard, a servant of the king of Babylon,

came to Jerusalem.

9 (Am 2:5; 2Ch 36:19) He burned the house of the Lord, the king's house,

and all the houses of Jerusalem. Every great house he burned with fire.

10 (Ne 1:3) All the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of

the guard tore down the walls of Jerusalem all around.

11 The rest of the people who remained in the city,

the deserters who had defected to the king of Babylon,

and the rest of the crowd Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard

took into exile.

12 (2Ki 24:14; Jer 40:7) But the captain of the bodyguard left

some of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and farmers.

13 (1Ki 7:15; 2Ch 36:18) The bronze pillars that were in the house

of the Lord, the stands, and the bronze sea that were in the house

of the Lord the Chaldeans broke in pieces, and carried their bronze

to Babylon.

14 (Ex 27:3; 1Ki 7:47-50) The pots, the shovels, the snuffers,

the incense bowls, and all the bronze implements which were used

in service they took away.

15 The fire pans and sprinkling basins that were fine gold and fine silver

the captain of the bodyguard took.

16 (1Ki 7:47) The two pillars, the one sea, and the stands,

which Solomon had made for the house of the Lord-the bronze of

all these implements was beyond weight.

17 The height of the one pillar was eighteen cubits,

[About 27 feet, or 8.1 meters.- and a bronze capital was on it.

The height of the capital was three cubits.

[About 4 1/2 feet, or 1.4 meters.] Latticework and pomegranates,

all of bronze, were on the capital all around. The second pillar with its

latticework was like it.

18 (1Ch 6:14; Ezr 7:1) The captain of the bodyguard took Seraiah

the chief priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers

of the threshold.

19 (Est 1:14) From the city he took a eunuch who was an officer

over the fighting men, five men of the king's council who were found

in the city, the chief scribe of the army who mustered the people

of the land, and 60 men from the people of the land who were found

in the city.

20 Nebuzaradan captain of the bodyguard took them, and brought them

to the king of Babylon at Riblah.

21 (Dt 28:64; 2Ki 23:27) Then the king of Babylon struck them down

and killed them at Riblah in the land of Hamath.

Thus he exiled Judah from their land.



Gedaliah, Governor of Judah



22 (Jer 39:14; 2Ki 22:12) Over the people who remained in the land of Judah,

whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, he appointed Gedaliah

the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan.

23 (Jer 40:7–9) When all the captains of the armies, they and their men,

heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah,

they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah, that is, Ishmael son of Nethaniah,

Johanan son of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite,

and Jaazaniah son of the Maakathite, they and their men.

24 Gedaliah swore to them and to their men, and said to them,

"Do not be afraid of being the servants of the Chaldeans.

Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well for you."

25 But in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah,

the son of Elishama, of the royal line, came with ten men

and struck down Gedaliah. He died along with the Judeans

and Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah.

26 (Jer 43:4-7) Then all the people, both small and great,

and the captains of the armies arose and went to Egypt,

for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.



Jehoiachin Released from Prison



Jer 52:31-34



27 (Jer 52:31-34; Ge 40:13) In the 37th year of the exile of Jehoiachin

king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month,

Awel-Marduk king of Babylon, in the year that he became king,

released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison.

28 (Da 2:37; 5:18-19) He spoke kindly to him, and gave him a throne

above the thrones of the kings that were with him in Babylon.

29 (2Sa 9:7) He changed his prison garments, and he ate food continually

before him all the days of his life.

30 (Ne 11:23; 12:47) His allowance was a regular allowance given

him by the king every day, all the days of his life.



2 Chronicles 36



Jehoahaz, King of Judah



2Ki 23:31–34

1 (Jer 22:11) Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah

and made him king in the place of his father in Jerusalem.

2 And Jehoahaz was 23 years old when he began to reign,

and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.

3 Then the king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem and imposed on the land

a tribute of a hundred talents [About 33/4 tons, or 3.4 metric tons.]

of silver and a talent [About 75 pounds, or 34 kilograms.] of gold.

4 (Jer 22:10-12) The king of Egypt made his brother Eliakim king over Judah

and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But Necho took his brother

Jehoahaz and carried him to Egypt.



Jehoiakim, King of Judah



2Ki 23:36-24:6

5 (2Ki 23:36-37; Jer 22:13-19) Jehoiakim was 25 years old when he began

to reign, and he was king in Jerusalem for 11 years. He did what was evil

in the eyes of the Lord his God.

6 (2Ch 33:11) And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against him

and bound him in bronze chains to lead him to Babylon.

7 (2Ki 24:13) Nebuchadnezzar also brought out some of the vessels

of the house of the Lord to Babylon and put them in his temple in Babylon.

8 (2Ki 24:5-6) And the remainder of the acts of Jehoiakim, the detestable

things that he did and were found against him, are written in the book

of the kings of Israel and Judah. Then Jehoiachin his son reigned

in his place.



Jehoiachin, King of Judah

2Ki 24:8-17

9 Jehoiachin was 18 years old when he began to reign, and he was

king in Jerusalem for three months and ten days. He did what was evil

in the eyes of the Lord.

10 (Jer 37:1; 2Ch 36:7) In the spring of that year King Nebuchadnezzar sent

for him and brought him to Babylon with the precious items

from the house of the Lord. Then Zedekiah his brother was king over Judah

and Jerusalem.



Zedekiah, King of Judah



2Ki 24:18-20; Jer 52:1-3

11 (2Ki 24:18-20) Zedekiah was 21 years old when he began to reign,

and he was king in Jerusalem for eleven years.

12 (2Ch 33:23; Jer 37:2-21) He did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord

his God and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke

from the Lord.

13 (2Ch 30:8) He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him

swear by an oath by God. He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart

against turning to the Lord God of Israel.

14 Even the officials over the priests and the people increased in their

unfaithfulness in all the detestable practices of the nations,

and they defiled the house of the Lord which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.



The Fall of Jerusalem



2Ki 25:1-21; Jer 52:4-27; Ezr 1:1-3

15 (Jer 25:3-4; 35:15) The Lord God of their fathers sent warnings

to them over and over again by His messengers because He had compassion

on His people and His dwelling place.

16 (2Ch 30:10; Jer 5:12-13) But they continued to jest regarding

the messengers of God, despising His word and making fun of His prophets

until the wrath of the Lord came up against His people,

until there was no remedy.

17 (Ps 74:20; Ezr 9:7) So He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans

from Babylon, who killed their young men with the sword at the house of their

sanctuary. He did not spare a young man or virgin, old or aged. God gave

all of them into his hand.

18 (2Ch 36:7; 36:10) Even all the vessels of the house of God,

both large and small, and the treasures of the house of the Lord, the king,

and his officials, all of this was taken to Babylon.

19 (Ps 79:1) So they burned down the house of God, tore down the wall

of Jerusalem, burned down all the palaces with fire, and destroyed all

the precious items.

20 (Jer 27:7) Then he carried into exile to Babylon the remnant,

who survived the sword, and they were slaves to him and his sons

until the kingdom of Persia ruled,

21 (Jer 29:10; Da 9:2) to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth

of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed her Sabbaths. As long as she lay

desolate, she kept Sabbath, to fulfill 70 years.



The Proclamation of Cyrus



22 (Jer 25:12; 29:10) In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia,

that the word of the Lord spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah might

be fulfilled, the Lord stirred up the spirit of King Cyrus of Persia,

so that he sent a proclamation throughout all his kingdom

and also declared in a written edict:

23 "Thus says King Cyrus of Persia:

"The Lord God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth,

and He has commanded me to build for Him a house at Jerusalem,

which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all His people,

may the Lord his God be with him. Let him go up."

Psalms 139

For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.

1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) You know when I sit down and when I get up;

You understand my thought from far off.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) You search my path and my lying down

and are aware of all my ways.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) For there is not a word on my tongue,

but behold, O Lord, You know it fully.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) You put Yourself behind and before me,

and keep Your hand on me.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

it is lofty, and I cannot fathom it.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my concerns,

24 and see if there is any rebellious way in me,

and lead me in the ancient way.



As I drove home after lunch with my best friend, I thanked God out loud for

her. She knows me and loves me in spite of things I don’t love about myself.

She's one of a small circle of people who accept me as I am-my quirks, habits,

and screw-ups. Still, there are parts of my story I resist sharing even

with her and others that I love-times where I’ve clearly not been the hero,

times I've been judgmental or unkind or unloving.



But God does know my whole story. He's the One I can freely talk to even

if I'm reluctant to talk with others.



The familiar words of Psalm 139 describe the intimacy we enjoy with

our Sovereign King. He knows us completely! (v. 1). He's "familiar with all

[our] ways" (v. 3). He invites us to come to Him with our confusion,

our anxious thoughts, and our struggles with temptation. When we're

willing to yield completely to Him, He reaches out to restore

and rewrite the parts of our story that make us sad because

we've wandered from Him.



God knows us better than anyone else ever can, and still . . . He loves us!

When we daily surrender ourselves to Him and seek to know Him more fully,

He can change our story for His glory.

He's the Author who's continuing to write it.

Psalms 27:1



The Lord is my light and my salvation;

whom will I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life;

of whom will I be afraid?



Marcy was afraid of the dark. As a child she slept with a nightlight on,

and even she matured, she still had a fear of dark places.

When she was at home alone, she kept all the lights on,

and a small lamp at her bedside glowed through the night.

The psalmist David reflects that common fear of darkness when he says

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?"

David does not say, "The Lord brings light," but "The Lord is my light".

God is the source of understanding and security in our lives.

He is the One who can expose and deal with our fears.

When we are afraid - afraid of losing a job or a loved one,

afraid of making mistakes, afraid of being hurt, afraid of what others may

say about us - we can turn to the Lord who can handle our fears.

He is a "stronghold", a fortress of protection around us,

and in him we are safe.

Often we turn to other places for our security - to the bank account,

to a spouse or loved one, to the approval of the world.

We mistakenly think that these sources can provide a foundation of defence

against uncertainty of life. But when we find that people disappoint us, money

loses its value, and the praise of others is fleeting,

we must turn again to the true source of security, God alone.

New Brunswick



Total population 753900

Muslim population (est.) 4543



Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim

population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the buliding that was formerly a Baptist

chruch was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton

also has a Muslim studentt association hosting prayer services, fellowship

getherings, and outreaches on campus.

Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student assoication serving the

campusus of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.

Fredericton's MUslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,

and between 300 to 400 university students.

Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,

which also helped foster the Islamic asociations of Fredericton and Moncton.

a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,

has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow

into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has

been primarily for university students moving into the area.



Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick

- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened

to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened

to sharing God's love in JEsus Christ with them



- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these

areas of concentration



- that cooperative CNNMM Networks will form to really, encourage,

and equip believers to lovingly reach Muslims in this province.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."



Peter's Speech at Pentecost



14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'



- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.



- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.



Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."



Ideas for prayer



- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -



Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity



(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

Conclusion:





Pray to the Lord to obey His word despite the dangers around you.



Pray to the Lord "Precious Father, thank You for loving me as Your child

despite the times I've disappointed You. Help me to yield all

of myself to You in full assurance that You’re faithfully

walking beside me."



Pray to the Lord and pray to know as Light od the universe.



Pray to the Lord and to be righteous in His Eyes.



Pray to the Lord and submit to Him in your illness.



Pray for Muslims in New Brunswick to know Jesus as Saviour.



Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.



Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have God's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
