Proverbs 27-29



Proverbs 27

1 (Lk 12:19-20; Jas 4:13-16 ) Do not boast about tomorrow,

for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

2 (Pr 25:27; 2Co 10:12 ) Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth;

a stranger, and not your own lips.

3 (Pr 17:12) A stone is heavy and the sand weighty,

but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both.

4 (Pr 6:34; 1Jn 3:12) Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous,

but who is able to stand before envy?

5 (Pr 28:23; Gal 2:14) Open rebuke is better

than secret love.

6 (Ps 141:5) Faithful are the wounds of a friend,

but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

7 The full soul loathes a honeycomb,

but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

8 (Isa 16:2) As a bird that wanders from her nest,

so is a man who wanders from his place.

9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart,

so does the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

10 (1Ki 12:6-8; Pr 17:17) Do not forsake your own friend

or your father's friend,

nor go into your brother’s house in the day of your calamity;

for better is a neighbor who is near than a brother far off.

11 (Pr 10:1; Ps 119:42) My son, be wise, and make my heart glad,

that I may answer him who reproachesme.

12 (Pr 22:3) A prudent man foresees the evil and hides himself,

but the simple pass on and are punished.

13 (Pr 20:16) Take his garment that is security for a stranger,

and take a pledge of him for an adulterous woman.

14 He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning,

it will be counted a curse to him.

15 (Pr 19:13; 21:9) A continual dripping on a very rainy day

and a contentious woman are alike;

16 whoever restrains her restrains the wind,

and grasps oil in his right hand.

17 Iron sharpens iron,

so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

18 (1Co 9:7; SS 8:12) Whoever keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit;

so he who waits on his master will be honored.

19 As in water face answers to face,

so the heart of man to man.

20 (Pr 30:15-16; Ecc 1:8) Death and destruction are never full;

so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

21 (Pr 17:3) As the refining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold,

so is a man to his praise.

22 (Pr 23:35; Jer 5:3) Though you should grind a fool in a mortar

among wheat with a pestle,

yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

23 (1Pe 5:2) Be diligent to know the state of your flocks,

and look well to your herds;

24 (Pr 23:5) for riches are not forever,

nor does the crown endure to every generation.

25 The hay appears, and the tender grass shows itself,

and herbs of the mountains are gathered.

26 The lambs are for your clothing,

and the goats are the price of the field.

27 You will have goats' milk enough

for your food, for the food of your household,

and for the maintenance of your maidens.



Proverbs 28



1 (Lev 26:17; Ps 53:5) The wicked flee when no man pursues,

but the righteous are bold as a lion.

2 Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes;

but by a man of understanding and knowledge, it shall be prolonged.

3 A poor man who oppresses the poor

is like a sweeping rain that leaves no food.

4 (1Ki 18:18; Mt 3:7) Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked,

but such as keep instruction contend with them.

5 (Ps 92:6; Jn 7:17) Evil men do not understand justice,

but those who seek the Lord understand all things.

6 (Pr 19:1; 28:18) Better is the poor who walks in his uprightness

than he who is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

7 (Pr 29:3) Whoever keeps the law is a wise son,

but he who is a companion of riotous men shames his father.

8 (Lev 25:36; Pr 13:22) He who by usury and unjust

gain increases his substance

will gather it for him who will pity the poor.

9 (Ps 109:7; Pr 15:8) He who turns away his ear from hearing instruction,

even his prayer will be an abomination.

10 (Pr 26:27; Mt 6:33) Whoever causes the righteous

to go astray in an evil way,

he himself will fall into his own pit;

but the upright will have good things in possession.

11 (Pr 26:16) The rich man is wise in his own conceit,

but the poor who has understanding searches him out.

12 (Pr 11:10; 29:2) When righteous men rejoice, there is great glory;

but when the wicked rise, a man hides himself.

13 (Job 31:33; Ps 32:3-5) He who covers his sins will not prosper,

but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

14 (Pr 23:17; Isa 66:2) Happy is the man who always fears,

but he who hardens his heart will fall into mischief.

15 (Mt 2:16; 1Pe 5:8) As a roaring lion and a charging bear,

so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

16 (Isa 3:12) The prince who lacks understanding is also a great oppressor,

but he who hates covetousness will prolong his days.

17 (Ge 9:6; Ex 21:14) A man burdened with bloodshed of any person

will flee until death;

let no man help him.

18 (Pr 10:9; 28:6) Whoever walks uprightly will be saved,

but he who is perverse in his ways will fall at once.

19 (Pr 12:11) He who tills his land will have plenty of bread,

but he who follows after vain things will have poverty enough.

20 (Pr 28:22; 13:11) A faithful man will abound with blessings,

but he who makes haste to be rich will not be innocent.

21 (Eze 13:19; Pr 18:5) To show partiality is not good,

because for a morsel of bread that man will transgress.

22 (Pr 23:6; 28:20) He who hastens to be rich has an evil eye,

and does not consider that poverty will come upon him.

23 (Pr 27:5-6) He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward

than he who flatters with the tongue.

24 (Pr 18:9; 19:26) Whoever robs his father or his mother

and says, "It is no transgression,"

the same is the companion of a destroyer.

25 (Pr 11:25; 15:18) He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife,

but he who puts his trust in the Lord will prosper.

26 (Pr 3:5) He who trusts in his own heart is a fool,

but whoever walks wisely will be delivered.

27 (Pr 19:17; Dt 15:7) He who gives to the poor will not lack,

but he who hides his eyes will have many a curse.

28 (Pr 28:12; Job 24:4) When the wicked rise, men hide themselves;

but when they perish, the righteous increase.



Proverbs 29

1 (Pr 6:15; 1Sa 2:25) He who is often reproved, yet hardens his neck,

will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

2 (Est 8:15; Pr 28:12) When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice;

but when the wicked rule, the people mourn.

3 (Pr 10:1; Lk 15:30) Whoever loves wisdom rejoices his father,

but he who keeps company with harlots spends his substance.

4 (Pr 29:14) The king establishes the land by judgment,

but he who receives bribes overthrowsit.

5 (Ps 5:9 ) A man who flatters his neighbor

spreads a net for his feet.

6 (Ecc 9:12) In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare,

but the righteous sing and rejoice.

7 (Job 29:16; Ps 41:1) The righteous considers the cause of the poor,

but the wicked regards not to know it.

8 (Pr 11:11) Scornful men bring a city into a snare,

but wise men turn away wrath.

9 If a wise man contends with a foolish man,

whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.

10 (Ge 4:5-8) The bloodthirsty hate the upright,

but the just seek his soul.

11 (Pr 12:16; 14:33) A fool utters all his mind,

but a wise man keeps it in until afterwards.

12 If a ruler listens to lies,

all his servants are wicked.

13 (Pr 22:2; Ps 13:3) The poor and the deceitful man have this in common:

The Lord gives light to the eyes of both.

14 (Pr 16:12; Ps 72:2-4) The king who faithfully judges the poor,

his throne will be established forever.

15 (Pr 10:1; 17:25) The rod and reproof give wisdom,

but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

16 (Ps 37:36; 58:10) When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases;

but the righteous will see their fall.

17 (Pr 13:24; 29:15) Correct your son, and he will give you rest;

yes, he will give delight to your soul.

18 (Jn 13:17; 1Sa 3:1) Where there is no vision, the people perish;

but happy is he who keeps the teaching.

19 A servant will not be corrected by words,

for though he understands he will not answer.

20 (Pr 26:12; Jas 1:19) Do you see a man who is hasty in his words?

There is more hope for a fool than for him.

21 He who delicately brings up his servant from a child

will have him as a son in the end.

22 (Pr 15:18; 17:19; 26:21) An angry man stirs up strife,

and a furious man abounds in transgression.

23 (Pr 15:33; Mt 23:12) A man's pride will bring him low,

but honor will uphold the humble in spirit.

24 (Lev 5:1; Pr 8:36) Whoever is partner with a thief hates his own soul;

he hears the oath but tells nothing.

25 (Ge 20:2; 20:11 )The fear of man brings a snare,

but whoever puts his trust in the Lord will be safe.

26 (Pr 19:6; Ps 20:9) Many seek the ruler’s favor,

but every man’s judgment comes from the Lord.

27 (Ps 139:21; 1Jn 3:13) An unjust man is an abomination to the just,

and he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.

Judges 7:1–8,22



1 Then Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with

him got up early and set up camp at Harod Spring.

There was a camp of Midianites to the north of them in the valley

near the hill of Moreh.

2 The Lord said to Gideon, "You have too many people with you for Me

to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel glorify themselves

over Me, saying, 'Our own power saved us.'

3 So now, call out so the people can hear, 'Whoever is afraid or anxious

may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.' "

So 20000 from among the people turned back, and 10000 were left.

4 But the Lord said to Gideon, "There are still too many people.

Bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there.

When I say to you, "This one will go with you,' he will go with you.

Everyone about whom I will say,' 'This one will not go with you,'

will not go."

5 So he brought the people down to the water, and the Lord said to Gideon,

"You shall set apart by himself everyone who laps the water with his tongue

like dogs; likewise, everyone who kneels down to drink."

6 The number of those who lapped, putting their hands to their mouths,

was three hundred. The rest of the people had knelt to drink water.

7 The Lord said to Gideon, "With three hundred men who lapped to drink,

I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands.

All the rest of the people should go home."

8 So the three hundred men took provisions and ram's horn trumpets

in their hands. Gideon sent all the other Israelite men to their tents,

but he kept the three hundred men.

22 When they blew the three hundred horns, the Lord turned every man's

sword against his fellow man throughout the camp. The Midianite camp

fled to Beth Shittah in the direction of Zererah, up to the border

of Abel Meholah, near Tabbath.



In a 2017 World Cup qualifying match that pitted the US against Trinidad

and Tobago, the Soca Warriors shocked the world when they beat the US men's

national team, a team ranked considerably higher. The upset eliminated

the US team from the 2018 World Cup.



Trinidad and Tobago's victory was so unexpected in part

because the United States' population and resources dwarfed those

of the small Caribbean nation. But those seemingly insurmountable advantages

weren't enough to defeat the passionate Soca Warriors.



The story of Gideon and the Midianites features a similar upset, one between

a small group of fighters and a large army. The Israelite army actually had

more than 30000 fighters, but the Lord whittled the army down

to just 3000 warriors so the nation would learn that their success

was dependent on God-not the size of their army, the amount of money

in their treasury, or the skill of their leaders (Judges 7:1–8).



It can be tempting to put our trust and confidence in things we can see

or measure, but that’s not the way of faith. Though it’s often difficult,

when we're willing to depend on God, to

"be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power" (Ephesians 6:10),

we can go into situations with courage and confidence,

even when we feel overwhelmed and unqualified.

His presence and power can do amazing things in and through us.

John 3:16-17

that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in

the world to condemn the world, but that the world

Often called "the gospel in a nutshell", John 3:16 is so familiar,

even the unchurched, that it has all but lost its impact for us.

WE cite it by rote, as if it had no more meaning than a SSN (SIN),

and think that we understand the truth becuase we know the words.

Why did God send Jesus, his only Son, into the world to die?

Because he loved the people he created. God had no reason,

humanly speaking, to love mankind. Throughout history, from

the Garden of Eden forward, people had deliberately turned

against God and tried his patience. Even the nation God chose

for himself, Israel rebelled againt the Lord and turned to other gods.

And we, as individuals, have rebelled against him too. WE have tried

to control our own lives; we have denied his reality; or

acknowledged his existence and then systematically ignored him.

We have become our own gods.

Yet Christ, in love, took upon himself the rejection, the humiliation,

the pain we were responsible for. We deserved to be condemned to die,

but he died for us instead. "God did not send his Son into the world

to condemn the world," John 3:17 says, "but to save the world through him."

Often, even after we have committed our lives to Christ, we mistakenly

suppose that God's primary purpose is to condemn us - to catch us in sin

and punish us. But God says that his purpose is to love us and to save us

from sin and ourselves. He loved, and so he gave; he still loves us,

and he still continues to give.



Application

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering

of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority

of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim

population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone

African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.

And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more

Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.

This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches

and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small

by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that

is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now

this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly

or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br

easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,

yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.

Agree in prayer for :



- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel

- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding

-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting

together for worship!

- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for

reaching Muslims in Quebec.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."



Peter's Speech at Pentecost



14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.



- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.



Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."



Ideas for prayer



- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -



Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity



(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

I) Pray for the leaders of Ontario,

that God's Spirit would influence

then to act justly,

serve with integrity

and honour high moral standards. ( 1 Tim 2:1 - 4



1 Therefore I exhort first of all that you make supplications,

prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,

2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,

that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,

3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good

and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,

4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved

and to come to the knowledge of the truth. )



II) Pray for the churches of the province,

that they would be lighthouses

beaming forth the illuminating truth of God's Word.



III) Pray that the Lord would use

the Finding the Hope Campaign

and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus



Conclusion:



Pray to the Lord to be bold.



Pray to the Lord , when life gets challenging,

to help you learn to rely more

and more on His mighty power and grace.



Pray to the Lord to face condemnation and guilt.



Pray to the Lord to prosper like Joseph

when he was in Egypt.



Pray to the Lord to know His will.



Pray for Muslims in Quebec to receive Christ as Saviour

and that Christian outreach will increase in Quebec.



Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.



Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have God's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
