2 SAMUEL 10
David Defeats the Ammonites and Arameans
1Ch 19:1-19
1 After this, the king of the Ammonites died, and Hanun his son
reigned in his stead.
2 (1Sa 11:1) David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash,
as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent a message by way
of his servants to comfort him concerning his father, and the servants
of David went to the land of the Ammonites.
3 (Ge 42:9; 42:16) But the Ammonite officials said to Hanun, their lord,
"Has David honored your father in your eyes by sending comforters to you?
Was it not in an effort to search out the city, to scout it in order
to overthrow it, that he sent his servants to you?â€
4 (Isa 20:4; 15:2) So Hanun seized the servants of David, shaved half
of the beard of each, cut their robes in half so that they were exposed,
and sent them away.
5 When they reported what had happened to David, he sent messengers
to meet them, because the men were severely ashamed.
The king instructed them, "Remain at Jericho until your beards
have regrown, then return."
6 (2Sa 8:3; 8:5) When the Ammonites saw that they had become odious to David,
the Ammonites sent and hired the Arameans of Beth Rehob and the Arameans
of Zobah, 20000 foot soldiers, and from the king of Maakah, 1000 men,
and from Tob, 12000 men.
7 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army with the warriors.
8 (2Sa 10:6) The Ammonites came out and drew up in battle formation
at the entrance of the gate. But the Arameans of Zobah, Rehob, Tob, a
nd Maakah were by themselves in the open field.
9 When Joab saw that the battlefronts were both before and behind him,
he selected some from the best men in Israel and lined them up opposite Aram.
10 The remainder of the people he placed under the charge of Abishai
his brother, and lined them up opposite the Ammonites.
11Then he said, "If Aram starts to prevail over me, you shall help me,
but if the Ammonites begin to prevail over you, then I will come to help you.
12 (Dt 31:6; 1Sa 3:18) Be strong and let us fight with resolve
for the sake of our people and the cities of our God.
May the Lord do what seems good to Him."
13 (1Ki 20:13-21) Joab advanced the people that were with him to fight
against Aram, and they retreated from before him.
14 When the Ammonites realized that Aram had fled, they retreated
from before Abishai and entered the city. Then Joab turned away
from fighting against the Ammonites, and he came to Jerusalem.
15 When Aram saw that they had been defeated by Israel,
they assembled together.
161 (Ch 19:16; 2Sa 8:3-8) Hadadezer sent for and summoned the Arameans
who were beyond the River,Euphrates River. and they came to Helam.
Shobak the commander of the army of Hadadezer led them.
17 When David was informed of this, he assembled all of Israel.
They crossed over the Jordan and came to Helam. Aram was drawn up
in formation opposite David, and they fought against him.
18 (1Ch 19:18) Aram retreated before Israel. David killed 700 charioteers,
40000 horsemen from Aram, and wounded Shobak the commander
of the army so that he died there.
19 (2Sa 8:6) When all of the kings who were subject to Hadadezer
realized that they were being defeated by Israel,
they made peace with Israel and became subject to them.
From then on, Aram was fearful of further helping the Ammonites.
1 CHRONICLES 19
David Defeats the Ammonites
2Sa 10:1-19
1 Now it happened after this that Nahash the king of the Ammonites
died, and his son reigned in his place.
2 Then David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash,
because his father showed kindness to me." So David sent messengers
to comfort him concerning his father. And David's servants came
to Hanun in the land of the Ammonites to comfort him.
3 But the leaders of the Ammonites said to Hanun,
"Do you think that David is honoring your father because he sent consolers?
Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow
and to spy out the land?"
4 So Hanun took the servants of David, shaved them, cut their garments
in half as far as the hip, and sent them away.
5 Then some came and told David about the men, so he sent to meet them,
for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said,
"Remain in Jericho until your beards grow full, and then return."
6 (Ge 34:30; 2Sa 10:6) When the Ammonites saw that they had become a stench
to David, Hanun and the Ammonites sent one thousand talents
[About 38 tons, or 34 metric tons.] of silver to hire chariots and horsemen
from Aram Naharaim, Aram Maakah, and Zobah.
7 (Nu 21:30; Jos 13:9) So they hired for themselves t32000 chariots,
with the king of Maakah and his people. They camped before Medeba
as the Ammonites gathered from their cities to go out to war.
8When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.
9 So the Ammonites went out and formed ranks for battle at the entrance
to the city while the kings who had come were
by themselves in the open country.
10 When Joab saw the battle line was drawn in front of him and behind him,
he chose some of the best men in Israel and arrayed them against the Arameans.
11 (1Ch 18:12) The rest of the people he placed in the charge
of his brother Abishai, and they took up positions to engage the Ammonites.
12 Then he said, "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you will come
help me, but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will come help you.
13 Take courage, and let us prove worthy of our people
and the cities of our God. May the Lord do what seems right to Him."
14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the Arameans
for battle, and they fled before him.
15 When the Ammonites saw the Arameans fleeing, they also fled before
Abishai his brother and entered the city. So Joab returned to Jerusalem.
16 (2Sa 10:1) 6When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel,
they sent messengers and summoned the Arameans who were beyond '
he River,Euphrates River. and Shophak, the commander of Hadadezer's
army went before them.
17 When David was told about it, he gathered all Israel, crossed
over the Jordan, and came against them. He divided his ranks
and prepared to engage the Arameans in battle, so they fought against him.
182 (Sa 10:18) But the Arameans fled before Israel,
and David killed 7000 chariot drivers and 40000 infantry men of the Arameans,
and killed Shophak, the commander of the army.
19And when the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel,
they negotiated peace with David and served him.
So the Arameans were not willing to aid the Ammonites in battle again.

entitled Singing Over Us
Zephaniah 3:14–17
Israel's Song of Joy
14 (Isa 12:6; 54:1) Sing, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
O daughter of Jerusalem!
15 (Isa 51:22; Zep 3:5) The Lord has taken away your judgments,
He has cast out your enemies.
The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;
you will see evil no more.
16 (Heb 12:12; Isa 35:3-4) On that day it will be said to Jerusalem:
Fear not, O Zion;
let not your hands be slack.
17 (Jer 32:41; Zep 3:15) The Lord your God is in your midst,
a Mighty One, who will save.
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will renew you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
A young father held his baby boy in his arms, singing to him
and rocking him in soothing rhythm. The baby was hearing-impaired,
unable to hear the melody or the words. Yet the father sang anyway,
in a beautiful, tender act of love toward his son. And his efforts
were rewarded with a delightful smile from his little boy.
The imagery of the father-son exchange bears a striking
resemblance to the words of Zephaniah. The Old Testament prophet
says that God will joyfully sing over His daughter,
the people of Jerusalem (Zephaniah 3:17). God enjoys doing good things
for His beloved people, such as taking away their punishment
and turning back their enemies (v. 15). Zephaniah says they no longer
have any reason for fear and instead have cause for rejoicing.
We, as God’s children redeemed by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ,
sometimes are hard of hearing-unable, or perhaps unwilling,
to tune our ears to the exuberant love God sings over us.
His adoration of us is like that of the young father, who lovingly
sang to his son despite his inability to hear. He has taken away
our punishment too, giving us further reason to rejoice.
Perhaps we might try to listen more closely to hear the joy
ringing loudly in His voice. Father, help us to hear Your loving melody
and savor being held safely in Your arms.

Reflect & Pray
What keeps you from hearing God?
How can you tune your ears to hear His delight in you?
Thank You, God, for taking great delight in me.
May I always listen to your voice as You joyfully sing over me.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 2 - The key to the Prison Cell
Matt 6:14-15
14 For if you forgive men for their sins, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men for their sins,
neither will your Father forgive your sins.
Ann had been badly wounded in a relationship that had ended in anger
and accusation. For more than a year, Ann nursed her bitterness, rallying
support for her attitudes from friends and colleagues. Any time she saw
her former friend, Ann put up an icy wall of hostility. She thought she was
"getting over" the hurt, but the very mention of her friend's name brought
back a flood of negative feelings. Ann was trapped, locked in a prison of
unforgiveness , a jail built block by block by her own unwillingness to
forgive. Ann didn't "get over it"; instead, her wounds festered
and her bitterness grew worse.
Then one day - she never knew how - Ann let go of her bitterness. The barriers
of hostility and anger melted away, and when she saw her firend again, she was
able to forgive. And Ann was finally able to turn to the Lord for her own
healing and forgiveness.
"If you fo not forgive," Jesus says - and the statement falls hard on
unforgiving hearts, "Neither weill you be forgiven." In one sense, God's
forgiveness is unconditional - we do not have to earn or deserve it, and it is
always available to us. But we cannot experience the forgiveness God has
extended to us when we harbour unforgiveness towards others and build walls
of bitterness in our hearts.
When we refuse forgiveness toward those who have hurt or betrayed us, we do
not keep them in bondage, but ourselves. We lock ourselves away for an
awareness of God's loving presence; we imprison ourselves in a cell of
revenge. But when we reach out to forgive, we turn in the lock;
the door is open for our own sins to be forgiven and our own hearts
cleansed and purified.
Application
a) Why is forgiving others a condition for experiencing forgiveness in my own
life?
b) How can these verses have a practical effect upon my willingness
to forgive others?
4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland
Hebr 11:6
6 (1Ch 28:9; Jer 29:13–14) And without faith it is impossible to please God,
for he who comes to God must believe that He exists
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:
When you are Burdened by Doubt
Matt 7:7-11
Ask, Seek, Knock
Lk 11:9–13
7(Mt 21:22; Mk 11:24)"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and it will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
9 "What man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread,
will give him a stone?
10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a snake?
11 (Ge 6:5; 8:21) If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts
to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give
good things to those who ask Him!
The Lord's prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.
12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Musslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontari. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not comlacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosqoe distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who havve converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Antoerh town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:
- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connectiosn with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love

YEMENI IN METRO NEW YORK
REACHING OUT TO ONE OF THE LEAST-REACHED PEOPLE GROUPS
Aliya had just missed her train, so she quickly shifted into typical
New Yorker time-killer mode, sitting on an empty bench and reading a book.
That's when she noticed something unusual. Despite the available space
on the platform, a woman was walking straight toward her.
"Excuse me," said the woman. "Please don't mind me asking,
but are you from Yemen?"
Aliya was surprised by the greeting. How could a white woman in New York City
expertly "read" her hijab and conservative Islamic dress and conclude that
she was Yemeni? While it's true that some 20000 Yemeni immigrants live across
the metropolitan area, how could the woman pinpoint her nationality
among all the Muslim-Arab immigrant people groups in the city?
"Yes. How did you know?" answered Aliya.
"Well, I have been praying for Yemen for many months now. My name is Zoe.
Would you like to join me for coffee some time?"
The Spirit of God had drawn Zoe to study Yemen and pray for its war-torn people.
Now, she lifts them up daily in prayer.
Unbeknownst to Zoe, Aliya had recently surrendered to Jesus,
and she longed for deeper connections with Christ-following sisters.
The Lord had answered her prayers through Zoe's awkward
but divinely inspired interruption.
"Yes. I’d love to," Aliya replied.
Hailing from the cradle of Islam, Yeminis are among the least-reached
people groups in the Western Hemisphere. Many live in Brooklyn,
the Bronx, and Queens, but few ever enjoy significant relationships
with disciples of Christ.
Pray for outreach to diaspora Yemeni, and for concerted church planting
efforts among them.
Pray for more Christians to open their lives to Yemeni individuals
and their families.
Pray for Kingdom growth among this unreached people group
and for wisdom and security as they connect and relate to one
another in the West and abroad.

The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;
you will see evil no more.
16 (Heb 12:12; Isa 35:3-4) On that day it will be said to Jerusalem:
Fear not, O Zion;
let not your hands be slack.

We lock ourselves away for an
awareness of God's loving presence; we imprison ourselves in a cell of
revenge. But when we reach out to forgive, we turn in the lock;
the door is open for our own sins to be forgiven and our own hearts
cleansed and purified.
Application
a) Why is forgiving others a condition for experiencing forgiveness in my own
life?
b) How can these verses have a practical effect upon my willingness
to forgive others?
4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland
Hebr 11:6
6 (1Ch 28:9; Jer 29:13–14) And without faith it is impossible to please God,
for he who comes to God must believe that He exists
and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:
When you are Burdened by Doubt
Matt 7:7-11
Ask, Seek, Knock
Lk 11:9–13
7(Mt 21:22; Mk 11:24)"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;
knock and it will be opened to you.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Amen."

Quick facts on Muslims in Ontario
Ontation 2015 population 13 687 7000
est Muslim Population 1 001 542
CNMM Networks: Ottawa, Durham, York, Toronto, Mississauga, Halton, Hamilton,
Niagara, Kitchener, London, Windsor
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .
