Day 60 - 1 Mar 2021

Day 60, 1 Mar 2021

Today at https://www.calvarycommunty.ca we spoke about giving up

in the context of Joseph. REcall Joseph was spending a long time

in jail after the cupbearer was restored. Do you feel

too many things are taking a long time?

NUMBERS 14-15; Ps 90

NUMBERS 14

Israel Refuses to Enter Canaan

1 And the whole assembly lifted up their voices and cried,

and the people wept that night.

2 (Ex 15:24; 17:3) All the children of Israel grumbled against Moses

and against Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them,

"O that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or that we had died

in this wilderness!

3 And why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword,

that our wives and our children should become prey?

Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?"

4 (Dt 17:16; Ac 7:39) And they said one to another,

"Let us select a leader, and let us return to Egypt."

5 (Nu 16:4; 16:22) Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces

before all the congregation of the assembly of the children of Israel.

6 (Nu 13:6; 13:8) Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh,

from the ones who explored the land, tore their clothes.

7 (Nu 13:27; Dt 1:25) And they spoke to all the assembly

of the children of Israel, saying, "The land which we passed through

to explore it is a very, very good land.

8 (Dt 10:15; Nu 13:27) If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us

into this land and give it to us, a land which flows with milk and honey.

9 (Dt 7:18; 9:23–24) Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people

of the land because they are bread for us. Their defense is gone from them,

and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them."

10 (Ex 17:4; Lev 9:23) But all the assembly said, "Stone them with stones."

And the glory of the Lord appeared at the tent of meeting

before all the children of Israel.

11 (Ps 106:24; 78:22) The Lord said to Moses, "How long will this people

disgrace Me? And how long will they not believe Me, in spite of all the signs

which I have done among them?

12 (Ex 32:10) I will strike them

with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make from you

a nation greater and mightier than they."

Moses Intercedes for the People

13 (Ps 106:23; Dt 32:27) Moses said to the Lord, "Then the Egyptians will

hear of it, for by Your power You brought this people up from among them,

14 (Ex 15:14; Ge 32:30) and they will say to the inhabitants of this land

that they heard that You, Lord, are among this people, that You, Lord,

are seen face to face, and Your cloud stands over them,

and in the pillar of cloud You go before them by day

and by a pillar of fire at night.

15 Now if You kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have

heard the fame of You will speak, saying,

16 (Dt 9:28; Jos 7:9) 'The Lord was not able to bring this people

into the land which He swore to them,

so He slaughtered them in the wilderness.'

17 "So now, I pray, let the power of my Lord be great,

just as You have spoken, saying,

18 (Ex 20:5; 34:6–7; Ps 145:8) 'The Lord is slow to anger

and abounding in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression;

but He will by no means clear the guilty,

visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third

and fourth generation.'

19 (Ex 34:9; Ps 78:38) Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray,

according to the greatness of Your grace, just as You have pardoned

this people, from Egypt even until now."

20 The Lord said, "I have forgiven according to your word.

21 (Hab 2:14; Dt 32:40) But truly as I live, all the earth will be

filled with the glory of the Lord.

22 (Ge 31:7; Ex 17:2) Because all those men seeing My glory

and My signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness,

and have tempted Me now these ten times, and have not listened to My voice,

23 (Nu 32:11; 26:64) surely they will not see the land which I swore

to their fathers, nor will any of them who disgraced Me see it.

24 (Nu 14:6–9; 26:65) But My servant Caleb, because he had a different

spirit with him and followed Me fully, I will bring him into the land

where he went, and his seed will possess it.

25 (Nu 13:29; Dt 1:40) Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites

lived in the valley. Tomorrow you will turn, and you will

set out for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea."

Death of Rebels Predicted

26 The Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying:

27 (Ex 16:12) How long will this evil assembly be murmuring against Me?

I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel which they murmur

against Me.

28 (Nu 14:21; 14:23) Say to them, "As I live," says the Lord,

"just as you have spoken in My ears, so I will do to you.

29 (Nu 1:45; Heb 3:17) In this wilderness your corpses will fall,

and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number,

from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against Me,

30 (Ge 14:22; Nu 14:38) you will not go into the land

which I swore by My hand to cause you to dwell in it,

except Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.

31 (Ps 106:24; Dt 1:39) But your children, whom you said would be a prey,

I will bring them in and they will know the land, which you rejected.

32 (1Co 10:5; Nu 14:29) But as for you,

your corpses will fall in this wilderness.

33 (Nu 32:13; Dt 2:14) Your children will be shepherds in the wilderness

forty years, and they will suffer for your fornications, until

your corpses are in the wilderness.

34 (Nu 13:25; Eze 4:6) According to the number of the days in which

you spied out the land, forty days, a year for each day you will

bear your iniquity, forty years, and you will know My displeasure."

35 (Nu 23:19) I the Lord have spoken. I will surely do this to all

this evil assembly gathered against Me. In this wilderness they will

be finished, and there they will die.

36 The men whom Moses sent to explore the land, who returned

and made all the assembly murmur against him by bringing up

an evil report about the land,

37 (1Co 10:10; Nu 16:49) the men who brought an evil report

about the land, died by the pestilence before the Lord.

38 (Nu 26:65) But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh,

from the men that went to explore the land, lived.

Defeat in Battle

39 (Ex 33:4) Moses spoke these words to all the children of Israel,

and the people mourned greatly.

40 (Dt 1:41) They rose up early in the morning, and they went up to the top

of the mountain, saying, "Here we are. We will go up to the place which the

Lord has promised, for we have sinned."

41 (2Ch 24:20) Moses said, "Why do you now transgress the commandment

of the Lord? This will not prosper.

42 (Dt 1:42) Do not go up, for the Lord is not among you; do not let

yourselves be defeated by your enemies.

43 (Nu 13:29; 14:25) For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there

before you, and you will fall by the sword because you are turned

from the Lord, and the Lord will not be with you."

44 (Dt 1:43) But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain.

But the ark of the covenant of the Lord and Moses did not depart

from the midst of the camp.

45 (Nu 21:3; Dt 1:44) Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites

who dwelt on that mountain went down and defeated them,

pursuing them as far as Hormah.

(Rewards for whining and disbelieving)

NUMBERS 15

Laws of Grain and Drink Offerings

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2 (Lev 23:10; Nu 15:18) Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:

When you come into the land of your dwelling, which I am giving to you,

3 (Ex 29:18; Ge 8:21; Nu 28:27) when you make an offering by fire

to the Lord, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow,

or as a freewill offering, or in your appointed feasts,

to make a pleasing aroma to the Lord, of the herd or of the flock,

4 (Ex 29:40; Lev 23:13) then he who brings his offering to the Lord

will bring a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah

(About 1,500 feet, or 450 meters.)

of flour mixed with the fourth part of a hin

(About 1 quart, or 1 liter; and in v. 5.) of oil.

5 (Nu 28:7; 28:14) One-fourth of a hin of wine as a drink offering

you will prepare with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for each lamb.

6 Or for a ram, you will make a grain offering of two-tenths of an ephah

(Likely about 7 pounds, or 3.2 kilograms.) of flour mixed

with one-third of a hin (About 1 1/3 quarts, or 1.3 liters; and in v. 7.)

of oil. 7 As a drink offering you will offer one-third of a hin of wine,

as a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

8 (Lev 3:1) When you prepare a bull as a burnt offering, or as a sacrifice

in performing a vow, or as a peace offering to the Lord,

9 (Lev 6:14; 14:10) then shall be brought with the bull

a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah

(Likely about 11 pounds, or 5 kilograms.)

of flour mixed with one-half a hin

(About 2 quarts, or 1.9 liters; and in v. 10.)

of oil.

10 You will bring as a drink offering one-half a hin of wine,

as a fire offering, as a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

11 (Thus it will be done for one herd animal, or for one ram,

or for a flock animal, whether from the sheep or from the goats.

12 According to the number that you will make,

so you will do for every one according to their number.

13 Every native Israelite will do these things in this manner,

in offering a fire offering as a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

14 (A foreigner who lives with you, or who resides among you

throughout your generations, and would present a fire offering,

a pleasing aroma to the Lord, shall do as you do.

15 (Nu 9:14; 15:29) One ordinance will be for you of the assembly

and for the foreigner who lives with you, an ordinance forever

throughout your generations. As you are, so will the foreigner

be before the Lord.

16 One law and one justice will be for you

and for the foreigner who lives with you.

17The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

18 (Nu 15:2) Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:

When you come into the land where I bring you,

19 (Jos 5:11-12) then it will be, when you eat of the bread of the land

you will offer up an offering to the Lord.

20 (Lev 2:14; Ex 23:19) From the first of your dough you will offer

a cake as an offering. As you make the offering of the threshing floor,

so will you offer it.

21 Of the first of your dough you will give to the Lord an offering

throughout your generations.

Laws About Unintentional Sins

22 (Lev 4:2) If you have erred and not observed all these commandments

which the Lord has spoken to Moses,

23 even all that the Lord has commanded you by the hand of Moses,

from the day that the Lord commanded Moses

and onward through your generations,

24 (Lev 4:23; Nu 28:15) then it will be, if it is committed by ignorance

without the knowledge of the assembly, that all the assembly will offer

one young bull as a burnt offering, as a pleasing aroma to the Lord,

with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the rule,

and one kid of the goats as a sin offering.

25 (Lev 4:20; Ro 3:25) The priest will make atonement for all the assembly

of the children of Israel, and it will be forgiven them

because it is ignorance, and they will bring their offering,

a sacrifice made by fire to the Lord, and their sin offering before the Lord,

for their ignorance.

26 And it will be forgiven all the assembly of the children of Israel

and the foreigner who lives among them,

because all the people were in ignorance.

27 (Lev 4:27-28) If a person sins unintentionally, then he will bring

a year-old female goat as a sin offering.

28 (Lev 4:35) The priest will make an atonement for the person who sins

unintentionally, when he sins by ignorance before the Lord, to make

an atonement for him; and it will be forgiven him.

29 (Nu 15:15) You shall have one law for the person who acts through

ignorance, for the natural-born citizen among the children of Israel

and foreigner who lives in your midst.

Laws About Intentional Sins

30 (Dt 1:43; Ps 19:13) But the person who acts by a high hand,

the natural-born citizen or the foreigner, the same reviles the Lord,

and that person will be cut off from among his people.

31 (2Sa 12:9; Pr 13:13) Because he has despised the word of the Lord

and has broken His commandment, that person will be totally cut off.

His iniquity will be on him.

The Sabbath-Breaker Executed

32 (Ex 35:2-3) While the children of Israel were in the wilderness,

they found a man who gathered sticks on the Sabbath day.

33 The ones who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses

and Aaron and to all the assembly.

34 (Lev 24:12) They put him in confinement because it was not declared

what should be done to him.

35 (Ex 31:14–15; Ac 7:58) The Lord said to Moses, "The man will surely die.

All the assembly will stone him with stones outside the camp."

36 All the assembly brought him outside the camp and stoned him with stones,

and he died as the Lord commanded Moses.

Tassels on Garments

37 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

38 (Dt 22:12; Mt 23:5) Speak to the children of Israel,

and tell them to make for themselves tassels on the corners of their garments

throughout the generations to come, and they will put a ribbon of blue on the

corners of their garments.

39 (Ps 73:27; Eze 6:9) And it will be for you a tassel, and you will see it,

and you will remember all the commandments of the Lord, and you will do them,

and you will not follow the lust of your own heart and your own eyes.

40 (Lev 11:44-45; Ro 12:1) So shall you remember and do all My commandments,

and be holy to your God.

41 (Lev 22:33) I am the Lord your God who brought you

out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the Lord your God.

PSALMS 90

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.

1 Lord, You have been our dwelling place

in all generations.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) Before the mountains were brought forth,

or You had formed the earth and the world,

even from everlasting to everlasting You are God.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) You return man to the dust

and say, "Return, you children of men."

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) For a thousand years in Your sight

are but as yesterday when it is past,

or as a night watch in the night time.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) You carry them away as with a flood;

they are as a dream, like renewed grass in the morning:

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) In the morning it flourishes and grows up;

in the evening it fades and withers.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) For we are consumed by Your anger,

and by Your wrath we are terrified.

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) You have set our iniquities before You,

even our secret sins in the light of Your presence.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) For all our days pass away in your wrath;

we end our years with a groan.

10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) The years of our life are seventy,

and if by reason of strength eighty;

yet their length is toil and sorrow,

for they soon end, and we fly away.

11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) Who knows the power of Your anger?

Or Your wrath according to Your fear?

12 So teach us to number our days,

that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

13 Return, O Lord, how long?

Have mercy on Your servants.

14 Satisfy us in the early morning with Your mercy,

that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

15 Make us glad according to the days that You have afflicted us,

and the years that we have seen evil.

16 Let Your work be displayed to Your servants

and Your glory to their children.

17 Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,

and establish the work of our hands among us;

yes, establish the work of our hands.

entitled Never Give Up

Joshua 1:1–9

The Lord Commissions Joshua

1 (Ex 24:13; Dt 1:38) Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord,

the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses:

2"Moses My servant is dead, so now get up and cross over the Jordan—you

and all this people—to the land that I am giving to the children of Israel.

3 (Dt 11:24; Jos 14:9) I have given you every place that the sole of your

foot shall tread, as I said to Moses.

4 (Ex 23:31) From the wilderness and this Lebanon, as far as the great river,

the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Mediterranean

Sea toward the setting of the sun will be your territory.

5 (Dt 7:24; 31:6-8) No man will be able to stand against

you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, I will be with you.

I will not abandon you. I will not leave you.

6 (Jos 1:7; 1:9) "Be strong and courageous, for you shall provide the land

that I swore to their fathers to give them as an inheritance for this people.

7 (Dt 5:32; 28:14) Be strong and very courageous, in order to act carefully

in accordance with all the law that My servant Moses commanded you.

Do not turn aside from it to the right or the left,

so that you may succeed wherever you go.

8 (Ps 19:14; 119:15) This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth.

Meditate on it day and night so that you may act carefully according to all

that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful,

and you will be wise.

9 (Ge 28:15; Dt 31:7-8) Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous.

Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever

you go."

"Time went by. War came in." That's how Bishop Semi Nigo of the Keliko

people of South Sudan described delays in his church's long struggle

to get the Bible in their own language. Not one word, in fact, had ever

been printed in the Keliko language. Decades earlier, Bishop Nigo's

grandfather had courageously started a Bible translation project,

but war and unrest kept halting the effort. Yet, despite repeated

attacks on their refugee camps in northern Uganda and the Democratic

Republic of the Congo, the bishop and fellow believers kept the project alive.

Their persistence paid off. After nearly three decades,

the New Testament Bible in Keliko was delivered to the refugees in a rousing

celebration. "The motivation of the Keliko is beyond words,"

said one project consultant.

The commitment of the Keliko reflects the perseverance God asked of Joshua.

As God told him, "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate

on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.

Then you will be prosperous and successful" (Joshua 1:8).

With equal persistence, the Keliko pursued the translation of Scripture.

Now, "when you see them in the camps, they are smiling," said one translator.

Hearing and understanding the Bible "gives them hope."

Like the Keliko people, may we never give up seeking the power

and wisdom of Scripture.

Week 4 - The Blessings of Grace Day 2 - Alienation and Reconciliation

Col 1:21-22

21 (Eph 2:12) And you, who were formerly alienated

and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled

22 (Ro 7:4; Eph 5:27) in the body of His flesh through death,

to present you holy and blameless and above reproach in His sight,

Some 50 years ago, Orson Welles's radio broadcast of The War of the Worlds

threw the nation into panic; people on the East Coast ran for their lives,

expecting at any moment to be destroyed by alien invaders from outer space.

Today, of course, we are more sophisticated about such matters.

Television and movies have educated us about alien life forms.

Star Wars and Star Trek have taught us that their appearance can be much

different than ours. Sometimes they are unable to exist in our atmosphere

with artificial life-support systems; their physical makeup is often

incompatible with our environment.

God says that we, apart from Christ, are as incompatible with his kingdom

as the 'aliens' of movies are with Earth's environment.

We are at war with God, a true "war of the worlds" that staggers

the imagination.

Yet God has 'reconciled' us to his world. He has made us fit,

made us able to exist in his kingdom. He has made us part of

his world through Christ's death and resurrection.

Now, through Christ, we are 'holy' and 'without blemish' in God's sight.

And that transformation, ironically, make us 'alien' in the world around us.

No longer do we fit in a world of selfishness and greed, a world where Self

is god and everyone does what is right in his own heart.

We belong, instead, in the kingdom of God's righteousness.

Application

a) In what ways am I an 'alien' in this world?

b) How have I been an 'alien' to God's kingdom?

c) How can today's verses help me deal with my sense of 'not fitting'?

4) Prosperity verses from Kenneth Copeland

Deut 8:18

18 But you must remember the Lord your God,

for it is He who gives you the ability to get wealth,

so that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers,

as it is today.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

When you are lonely

PSALMS 25:15-21

15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord,

for He will lead my feet from the net.

16 Turn to me, and be gracious to me,

for I am isolated and afflicted.

17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged;

bring me out of my distresses.

18 Look on my pain and misery,

and forgive all my sins.

19 Consider my enemies, for they are many,

and they hate me with violent hatred.

20 Watch over my life, and deliver me!

Let me not suffer shame,

for I seek refuge in You.

21 Truth and integrity will preserve me

while I wait for You.

The Lord's Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

6) This come from Praying for Muslims in Canada 2015 (Is there a 2021 edition?)

Saskatchewan

Quick facts on Muslims in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan 2015 population 1125400

est Muslim Population 17279

CNMM Networks: Saskatoon

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past

5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have

focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts

of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres

of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a

Christian school.

Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up

in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young

women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.

Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.

Agree in prayer with us for:

- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart

and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing

Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.

- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the

spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into

converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.

- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more

to be raised up into effective witness.

- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon

to spread and grow to other cities.

Adding further

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

Footnotes

Acts 2:21 Joel 2:28-32.

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
