The Sacrifice of Isaac

1 (Heb 11:17; Dt 8:2)After these things God tested Abraham and

said to him, "Abraham!"

And he said, "Here I am."

2 (2Ch 3:1; Jn 3:16) Then He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac,

whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there

as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."

3 So Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey,

and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son;

and he split the wood for the burnt offering, and arose

and went to the place that God had told him.

4 Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes

and saw the place from a distance.

5 Abraham said to his young men, "Stay here with the donkey. T

he boy and I will go over there and worship and then return to you."

6 (Jn 19:17)_So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering

and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand and the knife.

So the two of them walked on together.

7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!"

And he said, "Here I am, my son."

Then he said, "Here is the fire and the wood,

but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"

8 (Jn 1:36; 1:29) Abraham said, "My son, God will provide for Himself

the lamb for a burnt offering."So the two of them went together.

9 (Jas 2:21)Then they came to the place that God had told him.

So Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood;

and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on the wood.

10 Then Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

11 (Ge 16:7; 16:9–10) But the angel of the Lord called to him out of heaven

and said, "Abraham, Abraham!"

And he said, “Here I am.”

12 (1Sa 15:22; Jas 2:21–22) Then He said, "Do not lay your hands

on the boy or do anything to him, because now I know that you

fear God, seeing you have not withheld your only son from Me."

13 Then Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behind him

was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. So Abraham went

and took the ram and offered him up as a burnt offering in the place

of his son.

14 (Ge 22:8; Ex 17:15) Abraham called the name of that place

The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day,

"In the mount of the Lord it will be provided."

15 Then the angel of the Lord called to Abraham out of heaven a second time,

16 (Lk 1:73; Ps 105:9) and said, "By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord,

because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son,

your only son,

17 (Ge 15:5; 24:60) I will indeed bless you and I will indeed multiply

your descendants as the stars of the heavens and as the sand that

is on the seashore. Your descendants will possess the gate of their enemies.

18 (Ge 12:3; Ac 3:25; Ge 18:18) Through your offspring all the nations

of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."

19 (Ge 21:31) So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba. Then Abraham lived at Beersheba.



Sons of Nahor



20 (Ge 11:29; 24:24) After these things Abraham was told,

"Milkah has also borne children to your brother Nahor:

21( Job 1:1) Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,

22 Ke­sed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel."

23 (Ge 24:15) Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milkah gave birth to

these eight to Nahor, Abraham's brother.

24 His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore

Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maakah.

Genesis 23



The Death of Sarah

1 Sarah lived one hundred and twenty-seven years.

These were the years of the life of Sarah.

2 (Ge 23:19; 13:18) Then Sarah died in Kiriath Arba

(that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan,

and Abraham went in to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.

3 (Ge 10:15) Then Abraham stood up from before his dead and spoke

to the Hittites, From the Septuagint, a cloak with long sleeves,

a full-length cloak, or an embroidered cloak, showing favoritism. saying,

4 (Ge 17:8; 1Ch 29:15) "I am a stranger and a foreigner among you.

Give me property for a burying place among you,

that I may bury my dead out of my sight."

5 So the Hittites answered Abraham, 6 (Ge 24:35; 14:14) "Hear us, my lord.

You are a mighty prince among us. Bury your dead in the choicest

of our burial places. None of us will withhold from you his burial place

that you may bury your dead."

7 Then Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land,

the Hittites. 8 He spoke with them, saying, "If it be your wish that I bury

my dead out of my sight, hear me and entreat Ephron the son of Zohar

for me, 9that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he owns,

at the end of his field. Let him give it to me in your presence

for the full price for a burial site."

10 (Ge 34:20; 34:24) Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites;

and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the presence of all the Hittites,

all who went in at the gate of his city, saying, 11 "No, my lord. Hear me:

I give you the field and the cave that is in it. I give it to you

in the presence of the sons of my people. Bury your dead."

12 Then Abraham bowed before the people of the land.

13 Then he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying,

"Indeed, if you will give it, please hear me. I will give you money

for the field; take it from me and I will bury my dead there."

14 Then Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

15 (Eze 45:12) "My lord, listen to me. The land is worth four hundred shekels

of silver. (About 10 pounds, or 4.6 kilograms._ What is that between

me and you? So bury your dead."

16 (Jer 32:9; Zec 11:12) Abraham listened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed out

for Ephron four hundred shekels of silver, the price that he had named

in the hearing of the Hittites, according to the standard commercial measure.

17 (Ge 25:9; 50:13) So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah,

which was before Mamre, the field and the cave that was in it,

and all the trees that were in the field that were within all the

surrounding borders were deeded

18 to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the Hittites,

before all who went in at the gate of his city. 19 After this, Abraham

buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah

before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.

20 (Ru 4:7–10) So the field and the cave that was in

it were deeded to Abraham by the Hittites

as property for a burial place.

Isaac and Rebekah



1(Ge 13:2; 12:2) Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord

had blessed Abraham in all things. 2 (Ge 47:29; 39:4–6)So Abraham said

to his servant, the oldest of his household, who was in charge over all

that he had, "Please, place your hand under my thigh,

3(Ge 26:34–35; 14:22) and I will make you swear by the Lord,

the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take

a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

4(Ge 28:2)But you shall go to my country and to my family,

and take a wife for my son Isaac."

5 Then the servant said to him, "Perhaps the woman will not be willing

to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from

which you came?"

6 Abraham said to him, "See to it that you do not take my son back there.

7 (Ge 13:15; 15:18) The Lord God of heaven, who took me from my father's

family and from the land of my relatives, and who spoke to me and swore

to me, saying, 'To your descendants I will give this land,' He shall send

His angel before you and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

8 (Jos 2:17–20)If the woman is not willing to follow you,

then you will be free from my oath. Only do not take my son back there."

9 (Ge 24:2) So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham

his master and swore to him concerning this matter.

10 (Ge 11:31; Dt 23:4) Then the servant took ten of his master's camels

and departed, for all the goods of his master were in his hand. And he

arose and went to the city of Nahor in Aram Naharaim.

11(1Sa 9:11; Ex 2:16)He made his camels kneel down outside the city

by a well of water in the evening when the women came out to draw water.

12(Ge 24:27; 26:24)Then he said, "O Lord, the God of my master Abraham,

please let me have success this day and show kindness to my master Abraham.

13(Ge 24:43)See, here I stand by the well of water,

and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.

14(Jdg 6:17; 6:37) Let it be that the young woman to whom I shall say,

'Please lower your pitcher, that I may drink,' and she shall say,

'Drink, and I will give your camels water also'—

let her be the one that You have appointed for Your servant Isaac.

Then I will know that You have shown kindness to my master."

15(Ge 11:29; 24:45)Before he had finished speaking, Rebekah,

who was born to Bethuel, son of Milkah,

the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, came out with a pitcher on her shoulder.

16(Ge 26:7)The young woman was very beautiful to look at, a virgin,

and no man had ever been with her. She went down to the well and filled

her pitcher and came up.

17 (Jn 4:7) Then the servant ran to meet her and said,

"Please let me drink a little water from your pitcher."

18 So she said, "Drink, my lord."

Then she quickly let down her pitcher to her hand and gave him a drink.

19 (Ge 24:14) When she had finished giving him a drink, she said,

"I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking."

20 Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough

and ran to the well to draw water and drew for all his camels.

21(Ge 24:12)The man, gazing at her, remained silent,

trying to discern whether the Lord had made his journey a success or not.

22(Ex 32:2–3)When the camels had finished drinking,

the man took a gold nose ring of half a shekel weight(About 1/5 ounce, or 5.7 grams.)

and two bracelets for her wrists of ten shekels weight(About 4 ounces, or 115 grams. )

in gold, 23 and said, "Whose daughter are you?

Please tell me, is there room in your father's house for us to lodge?"

24(Ge 24:15; 22:23)She said to him, "I am the daughter of Bethuel

the son of Milkah, whom she bore to Nahor."

25 Again she said to him, "We have both straw and provision enough,

and room in which to lodge."

26 (Ge 24:48; 24:52) Then the man bowed down his head and worshipped the Lord.

27(Ge 24:48; 24:12; 32:10)And he said, "Blessed be the Lord God of my master

Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master.

As for me, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s relatives."

28 So the young woman ran and told her mother's household of these things.

29 (Ge 29:5) Now Rebekah had a brother whose name was Laban,

and Laban ran out to the man at the well.

30 When he saw the nose ring and bracelets on his sister's hands

and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying,

"This is what the man said to me,"

he went to the man who stood by the camels at the well.

31(Ge 26:29; Ru 3:10) And he said, "Come in, blessed of the Lord.

Why do you stand outside?

I have prepared the house and a place for the camels."

32(Ge 43:24; Jdg 19:21) So the man came to the house.

Then he unloaded his camels and gave straw and

provision to the camels and water to wash his feet

and the feet of the men who were with him.

33 He then set food before him to eat, but he said,

"I will not eat until I have told about my errand." And he said, "Speak on."

34 So he said, "I am Abraham’s servant. 35 (Ge 13:2; 24:1) The Lord has

greatly blessed my master, and he has become wealthy.

He has given him flocks and herds, and silver and gold,

and male and female servants, and camels and donkeys.

36 (Ge 25:5; 21:1–7)Sarah my master's wife bore a son

to my master when she was old, and he has given to him all that he has.

37 My master made me swear, saying, 'You must not take a wife for my son

from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live.

38 (Ge 24:4) But you shall go to my father’s house, and to my relatives,

and take a wife for my son.'

39 "So I said to my master, 'Perhaps the woman will not follow me.'

40 (Ge 17:1; 24:7)"Then he said to me, 'The Lord, before whom I walk,

will send His angel with you and prosper your way, and you will take

a wife for my son from my relatives and from my father's house.

41 (Ge 24:8) You will be free from my oath, when you come to my family,

if they will not give her to you; then you will be released from my oath.'

42 (Ne 1:11) "So today I came to the well and said,

'O Lord, the God of my master Abraham,

if You will now give me success in my task;

43 (Ge 24:13–14) I am standing by the well of water, and let it be that

when the virgin comes forth to draw water, and I say to her,

"Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,"

44 (Ge 24:14) and she says to me,

"Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,"

let her be the woman whom the Lord has appointed for my master's son.'

45 “Before I had finished speaking in my heart,

there was Rebekah coming out with her pitcher on her shoulder;

and she went down to the well and drew water. Then I said to her, 'Please let me drink.'

46 "She then quickly let down her pitcher from her shoulder and said,

'Drink, and I will give your camels a drink also.'

So I drank, and she gave the camels a drink also.

47“Then I asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’

"And she said, 'The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milkah bore for him.'

"So I put the nose ring on her nose and the bracelets on her wrists.

48(Ge 24:26–27; 24:52) And I bowed down my head and worshipped the Lord,

and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham, who had led me

in the right way to take the daughter of my master's brother for his son.

49(Ge 47:29; Jos 2:14)And now if you will deal kindly and truly with my

master, tell me; and if not, tell me, so that I may turn to the right hand

or to the left."

50 (Ge 31:24; 31:29) Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said,

"This thing comes from the Lord; we cannot speak to you bad or good.

51 (Ge 24:15) Here is Rebekah before you; take her and go,

and let her be the wife of your master's son, as the Lord has spoken."

52 (Ge 24:26; 24:48)When Abraham's servant heard their words,

he worshipped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth.

53 (Ex 3:22; 11:2) Then the servant brought out jewels of silver and gold,

and clothing and gave them to Rebekah.

He also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother.

54(Ge 24:56; 24:59)Then they ate and drank, he and the men who were with him,

and stayed all night.

The next morning they arose, and he said, "Send me away to my master."

55 But her brother and her mother said, "Let the young woman remain

with us a few days, at least ten; after that she may go."

56 So he said to them,

"Do not delay me, seeing the Lord has given me success.

Let me go that I may go to my master."

57 They said, "We will call the girl and ask her."

58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her,

"Will you go with this man?"

And she said, "I will go."

5 (9Ge 35:8) So they sent away Rebekah their sister and her nurse,

and Abraham's servant and his men.

60(Ge 17:16; 22:17)They blessed Rebekah and said to her,

"May you, our sister, become the mother

of thousands of ten thousands;

and may your descendants possess

the gate of those who hate them."

61 Then Rebekah and her maids arose and they rode on the camels

and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and went his way.

62 (Ge 16:14; 25:11)Now Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi,

for he lived in the Negev.

63(Ps 1:2; 119:15)Isaac went out in the evening to meditate in the field;

and he lifted up his eyes and looked, and surely the camels were coming.

64And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she dismounted from her camel 65and said to the servant, "Who is this man walking in the field to meet us?"

The servant said, "It is my master." Therefore she took a veil and covered herself.

66 Then the servant told Isaac all the things he had done.

67 (Ge 37:35; 38:12)So Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah;

and he took Rebekah and she became his wife and he loved her.

So Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

After doctors diagnosed their first-born son with autism,

Diane Dokko Kim and her husband grieved facing

a lifetime of caring for a cognitively disabled child.

In her book Unbroken Faith, she admits to struggling

with adjusting their dreams and expectations for their beloved son's future.

Yet through this painful process, they learned

that God can handle their anger, doubts, and fears. Now, with their son

reaching adulthood, Diane uses her experiences to encourage parents

of children with special needs. She tells others about God's unbreakable

promises, limitless power, and loving faithfulness. She assures people

that He gives us permission to grieve when we experience the death

of a dream, an expectation, a way or a season of life.



In Isaiah 26, the prophet declares that God’s people can trust in the

Lord forever, "for the Lord . . . is the Rock eternal" (v. 4).

He’s able to sustain us with supernatural peace in every situation (v. 12).

Focusing on His unchanging character and crying out to Him during

troublesome times revitalizes our hope (v. 15).



When we face any loss, disappointment, or difficult circumstance,

God invites us to be honest with Him. He can handle our ever-changing

emotions and our questions. He remains with us and refreshes our spirits

with enduring hope. Even when we feel like our lives are falling apart,

God can make our faith unbreakable.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 3 The Kind Heart of Forgiveness



Eph 4:32



32 (2Co 2:10; Col 3:12–13; Mt 6:12)And be kind one to another,

tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.



Don had lost his job because he sttod against his boss and refused to

comprimise his Christian principles. Certain friends in the company had

turned against him, choosing to save their own jobs at any cost,

and he felt very alone, abandoned when he most needed the support

of those who cared.

But Don showed no signs of bitterness or unforgiveness. He refused to

recite the details of his firing to those around him, saying simply and

honestly, " I beleive my boss was wrong in what he did. But God can show

him." The kindness of Don's heart ., and the tenderness with which he

extended forgiveness, became a testimony to all who knew him. Don's

boss never "saw the light", never repented, but Don lived in the freedom of

forgiving.

Comparison is a rare commodity among Christains today. We seem to be

overstocked with judgment and crammed fukk of condemnation, but we have

little space in the corners of our lives for tenderheartedness. We are quick

to assume that we know another person's heart and have the remedy for

the problem, rather then giving that person the benefit of the doubt,

the room to grow, the freedom to make a mistake and seek forgiveness.

Jesus demonstrated the king compassion necessary in forgivemess when he

looked down at the soldiers who has crucified him, gambling at his feet

for his cloak, and said, "Father , forgive them, for they do not know what

are doing."

When others hurt and betray us, they often "do not know what they are

doing." we can, in Christ, offer compassionate forgiveness to them -

not condoning their actions or excusing their wrong, but forgiving ,

in the simplicity and purity of God's love.

British Columbia - British Columbia's Muslim Population is growing constantly.



Every week there are immigrants ad refugees coming to the Greater Vancouver



and surrounding areas. There are also significant Muslim student populations



in our colleges and universities. Some have even suggested that there are



between 4000 and 5000 Saudi Arabian students alone, without counting all



other nationalities.







Greater Vancouver has an estimated 180000 Muslims, and there are significant



and growing communities in the Fraser Valley such as in Langley, Abbotsford,



Chilliwack, etc. Including these communities the total population for this



region is about 200000.



Of these, there are an estimated 100000 Iranians, 35000 Arabs, 15000 Ismailis,



more than 20000 Afghanis, 10000 South Asian Muslims, 3000 Turks, and small



numbers from other countries such as Sudan, Somalia, Albania, etc.



We are seeing some Muslims coming to Christ and we rejoice in that.



A few people also have some ongoing ministry to Muslims in the area,



for which we also rejoice. Let us agree in that







- the church will catch a vision to pray,



and a burden to train outreach to Muslims



- the church will press in to participate in effective



discipleship of these new Muslim background believers.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month



and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days



of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that



usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,



of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be



decorated and festivals will be held.







For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the



distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of



Islam.







You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",



which means Blessed Eid!"







Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you



know, and Muslims around the world:







- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions



in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about



unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such



movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three



decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim



relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,



"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;



your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,



your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.



18 Even on My menservants and maidservants



I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.



19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:



blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,



and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.



21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.



Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a



hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under



a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the



house."







Ideas for prayer







- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you



- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving



Christ among Muslim people -



Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."



- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims



throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!







My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further



call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity



(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

b) Pray for the province of Prince Edward Island







I) Pray for the leaders of Prince Edward Island,



that God's Spirit would influence



then to act justly,



serve with integrity



and honour high moral standards. ( 1 Tim 2:1 - 4

Day 16: Go Make Disciples

Verse of the Day:

Matthew 28:19-20



19 (Mk 16:15–16; Ac 1:8) "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father

and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 (Mt 18:20; Ac 2:42) teaching them to observe all things I have commanded

you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.



When we choose to follow Christ, it means that we are commanded to make

disciples. While we most likely have all read Matthew 28:19

"Go therefore and make disciples . . ." it is not likely the first

and foremost thing we do when we become a believer.

We may read a daily devotion, give to the poor, join a small group,

read our bibles but make disciples for Jesus?

In reality, we all have some influence. It is up to us how we use it.







Reflection:



How are you influencing the people watching you?

Am I influencing them for Jesus?



Prayer:



Lord, help me be willing and to have the courage to share who

You are with the people in my life. Please speak to my heart and that

I will be willing to commit to making disciples. I ask that You lead

people into my life to share the gospel with. I pray that we

believers will draw others to You Lord.



I pray that the transforming power of the Holy Spirit will

come to touch the lives of those we have been sharing

the truth of Jesus with. I pray that we will be willing to

commit to disciple them in their new faith. In Jesus name, we pray Amen.

Conclusion:



Pray to seek the Lord's will in every test you face.



Pray for everything in faith that theLord will guide you.



Pray to show forgiveness in your life and those around you.



Pray for the Holy Spirit to move among Government representatives .



Pray to make disciples !



Pray for forgiveness of sins and repentance.
