Proverbs 8
The Virtue of Wisdom
1 (Pr 1:20–2)1 Does not wisdom cry out,
and understanding lift up her voice?
2 She stands on the top of high places,
by the way in the places of the paths.
3 (Job 29:7) She cries out at the gates,
at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors:
4 "To you, O men, I call,
and my voice is to the sons of men.
5 (Pr 1:22; 1:4) O you simple, understand wisdom,
and you fools, be of an understanding heart.
6 Hear, for I will speak of excellent things,
and from the opening of my lips will be right things;
7 (Jn 8:14; Ps 37:30) for my mouth will speak truth,

8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness;
there is nothing crooked or perverse in them.

Wisdom and Folly

Proverbs 9
The Way of Wisdom
1 (Eph 2:20-22; Mt 16:18) Wisdom has built her house,
she has hewn out her seven pillars;
2 (Pr 23:30) she has killed her beasts, she has mixed her wine,
she has also furnished her table.
3 (Pr 9:14; 8:1-3) She has sent out her maidens,
she cries out from the highest places of the city,
4 (Pr 6:32; 9:16) "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here."
As for him who wants understanding, she says to him,
5 (SS 5:1; Jn 6:27) "Come, eat of my bread,
and drink of the wine which I have mixed.
6 Forsake foolishness and live,
and go in the way of understanding."
7 He who reproves a scorner gets shame for himself,
and he who rebukes a wicked man gets hurt.
8 (Ps 141:5; Mt 7:6 ) Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you;
rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9 (Pr 1:5) Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser;
teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10 (Pr 1:7; Job 28:28; Ps 111:10) The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 (Pr 10:27; 3:16) For by me your days will be multiplied,
and the years of your life will be increased.

but if you scorn, you alone will bear it.
The Way of Foolishness
13 (Pr 7:11; 5:6 ) A foolish woman is clamorous;
she is simple, and knows nothing.
14 (Pr 9:3) For she sits at the door of her house,
on a seat in the high places of the city,
15 to call those who pass by
who go right on their way:
16 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here."
And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
17 (Pr 20:17; 30:20) "Stolen waters are sweet,
and bread eaten in secret is pleasant."

The Proverbs of Solomon

but righteousness delivers from death.

Jeremiah 23:16-22
16 (Jer 14:14; 27:9-10) Thus says the Lord of Hosts:
Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you.
They lead you into vanity;
they speak a vision of their own heart
and not out of the mouth of the Lord.
17 (Mic 3:11; Jer 8:11; 13:10) They still say to those who despise Me,
"The Lord has said, 'You will have peace'";
and they say to everyone who walks after the imagination of his own heart,
"No evil will come upon you."
18 (Jer 23:22; 1Co 2:16) For who has stood in the counsel of the Lord
and has perceived and heard His word?
Who has given heed to His word and listened to it?
19 (Jer 25:32; 30:23) Look, a whirlwind of the Lord
has gone forth in fury,
a tempestuous whirlwind.
It will fall tempestuously upon the head of the wicked.

At noon on September 21, 1938, a young meteorologist warned the U.S. Weather
Bureau of two fronts forcing a hurricane northward toward New England. But
the chief of forecasting scoffed at Charles Pierce's prediction. Surely
a tropical storm wouldn't strike so far north.
Two hours later, the 1938 New England Hurricane made landfall on Long Island.
By 4:00 p.m. it had reached New England, tossing ships onto land as homes
crumbled into the sea. More than six hundred people died. Had the victims
received Pierce's warning-based on solid data and his detailed maps-they
likely would have survived.
The concept of knowing whose word to heed has precedent in Scripture.
In Jeremiah's day, God warned His people against false prophets.
"Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you.
They lead you into vanity; they speak a vision of their own heart
and not out of the mouth of the Lord." (Jeremiah 23:16). God said of them,
“if they had stood in My counsel and had caused My people to hear
My words,” (v. 22).
"False prophets" are still with us. "Experts" dispense advice while ignoring
God altogether or twisting His words to suit their purposes. But through His
Word and Spirit, God has given us what we need to begin to discern the false
from the true. As we gauge everything by the truth of His Word, our own words
and lives will increasingly reflect that truth to others.

Help me learn what You really have to say. Make me sensitive to Your Spirit, not the spirit of this world.

Isaiah 1:18

"Is Christianity Reasonable?" Linda Wanted to Know. "I've heard all my life
that faith is a crutch, an invention of weak minds to assure them
of some order in the world."
Linda was not alone in her objection; thinking people for generations
have been asking themselves the same question.
God is not intimidated by our questions; in fact, he confronts the issue
head-on in the Scriptures. "Let us reason together," the Lord invites.
Even according to the most basic of human reasoning,
faith is a reasonable alternative , a rational choice for a thinking person.
God indicates in his Word that confession and forgiveness are "reasonable".
"Think!" God says. "You sin, and you know it,. You are not even able to be
true to your own principles. You cannot deal with your sin by will power
or effort. Bit I can deal with it! I can forgive it - and I will"
We cannot come to faith in God through Christ by intellect alone, of course.
Our spirits much reach out in faith, beyond what we can see. But intellect
supports faith; trusting in Christ is an eminently rational decision.
In Deut 30:1-20 , God set before the people a choice: Life or Death, blessing
or cursing. "Choose Life!" he tells them. We have the same choice.
The ultimate decision is thus simplified, the 'rational' alternative becomes
clear. We can choose death, by attempting to control our own destinies ,
or life, by giving ourselves fully into the hand of the Master.
Application
a) Why is the choice to acknowledge my sin and receive forgiveness a
'Rational choice'?
b) What are the alternatives to such a decision?
c) What other aspects of God's word
and work in my life seem 'reasonable' to me?

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.

- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals

- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

At noon on September 21, 1938, a young meteorologist warned the U.S. Weather
Bureau of two fronts forcing a hurricane northward toward New England. But
the chief of forecasting scoffed at Charles Pierce's prediction. Surely
a tropical storm wouldn't strike so far north.
Two hours later, the 1938 New England Hurricane made landfall on Long Island.
By 4:00 p.m. it had reached New England, tossing ships onto land as homes
crumbled into the sea. More than six hundred people died. Had the victims
received Pierce's warning-based on solid data and his detailed maps-they
likely would have survived.
The concept of knowing whose word to heed has precedent in Scripture.
In Jeremiah's day, God warned His people against false prophets.
"Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you.
They lead you into vanity; they speak a vision of their own heart
and not out of the mouth of the Lord." (Jeremiah 23:16). God said of them,
“if they had stood in My counsel and had caused My people to hear
My words,” (v. 22).
"False prophets" are still with us. "Experts" dispense advice while ignoring
God altogether or twisting His words to suit their purposes. But through His
Word and Spirit, God has given us what we need to begin to discern the false
from the true. As we gauge everything by the truth of His Word, our own words
and lives will increasingly reflect that truth to others.

Isaiah 1:18

says the Lord.

they shall be as wool.

"Is Christianity Reasonable?" Linda Wanted to Know. "I've heard all my life
that faith is a crutch, an invention of weak minds to assure them
of some order in the world."
Linda was not alone in her objection; thinking people for generations
have been asking themselves the same question.
God is not intimidated by our questions; in fact, he confronts the issue
head-on in the Scriptures. "Let us reason together," the Lord invites.
Even according to the most basic of human reasoning,
faith is a reasonable alternative , a rational choice for a thinking person.
God indicates in his Word that confession and forgiveness are "reasonable".
"Think!" God says. "You sin, and you know it,. You are not even able to be
true to your own principles. You cannot deal with your sin by will power
or effort. Bit I can deal with it! I can forgive it - and I will"
We cannot come to faith in God through Christ by intellect alone, of course.
Our spirits much reach out in faith, beyond what we can see. But intellect
supports faith; trusting in Christ is an eminently rational decision.
In Deut 30:1-20 , God set before the people a choice: Life or Death, blessing
or cursing. "Choose Life!" he tells them. We have the same choice.
The ultimate decision is thus simplified, the 'rational' alternative becomes
clear. We can choose death, by attempting to control our own destinies ,
or life, by giving ourselves fully into the hand of the Master.
Application
a) Why is the choice to acknowledge my sin and receive forgiveness a
'Rational choice'?
b) What are the alternatives to such a decision?
c) What other aspects of God's word
and work in my life seem 'reasonable' to me?

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that
the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most
Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching
from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly
resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques
are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools
are starting.
And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their
advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,
the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour
brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of
"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of
receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town
reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.
Agree in prayer for:
- net network leaders - the need is great
- the development of network leadership teams
- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals
whom God is calling into this ministry.
- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising
believers
- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas
- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love
towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
