Day 251 - 8 September 2021 reflections

Day 251, 8 September 2021

Ezekiel 40 - 42

The Vision of the New Temple

1 (Eze 33:21; 1:2-3; 3:14) In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity,

in the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month,

in the fourteenth year after the city was struck, on that very day

the hand of the Lord was upon me and He brought me there.

2 (Eze 1:1; Da 7:1) In the visions of God He brought me into the land

of Israel and set me upon a very high mountain, on which was as the frame

of a city on the south.

3 (Eze 47:3; 1:7; Rev 11:1) He brought me there, and there was a man whose

appearance was like the appearance of bronze, with a line of flax

and a measuring reed in his hand. And he stood in the gate.

4 (Eze 44:5; Jer 26:2; Isa 21:10) The man said to me, "Son of man, look

with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that

I shall show you. For you have been brought here to show it to you.

Declare all that you see to the house of Israel."

The East Gate

5 (Eze 42:20; Isa 26:1) There was a wall all around the outside

of the temple. In the man's hand was a measuring reed of six cubits

[About 11 feet, or 3.2 meters.] The long cubit of about 21 inches,

[or about 53 centimeters is used throughout ch. 40–48.] long, each being

a cubit and a handbreadth. [Likely about 35 pounds, or 16 kilograms.]

So he measured the width of the building, one reed. And the height, one reed.

6 (Eze 8:16; 43:1) Then he went to the gateway facing east;

and he went up its stairs and measured the threshold of the gate,

which was one reed wide. And the other threshold of the gate

was one reed wide.

7 (Eze 40:36) Every little chamber was one reed long and one reed wide.

And between the little chambers were five cubits.

[About 8 3/4 feet, or 2.7 meters; and in v. 48.]

And the threshold of the gate by the vestibule of the inside gate

was one reed.

8 He measured also the vestibule of the gate within, one reed.

9 Then he measured the vestibule of the gate, eight cubits.

[About 14 feet, or 4.2 meters.]

And its posts, two cubits. [About 3 1/2 feet, or 1 meter.]

And the vestibule of the gate was the inner end.

10 The little chambers of the gate eastward were three on this side

and three on that side. The three were of one measurement.

And the posts had one measure on this side and on that side.

11 He measured the width of the entrance of the gate, ten cubits,

[About 18 feet, or 5.3 meters.] and the length of the gate,

thirteen cubits. [About 18 feet wide and 23 feet long,

or 5.3 meters wide and 6.9 meters long. ]

12 The space also before the little chambers was one cubit

[About 21 inches, or about 53 centimeters.] on this side,

and the space was one cubit on that side. And the little chambers

were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.

13 He measured then the gate from the roof of one little chamber

to the roof of another; the width was 245 cubits,

[About 44 feet, or 13 meters; and in vv. 21, 25, 29, 30, 33, and 36.]

door against door.

14 (Ex 27:9; 1Ch 28:6) He measured the posts, sixty cubits,

[About 105 feet, or 32 meters.] even to the post of the court

all around the gate.

15 From the face of the gate of the entrance to the face of the vestibule

of the inner gate was fifty cubits. [About 88 feet, or 27 meters;

and in vv. 21, 25, 29, 33, and 36.]

16 (1Ki 6:4; 2Ch 3:5) There were narrow windows in the little chambers

and in their posts inside the gate all around, and likewise

in the vestibules. And windows were all around inside. And on each post

were palm tree ornaments.

The Outer Court

17 (Eze 42:1; Rev 11:2) Then he brought me into the outer court,

and there were chambers and a pavement made all around the court.

Thirty chambers were on the pavement.

18 The pavement was by the side of the gates, corresponding to the length

of the gates; this was the lower pavement.

19 (Eze 40:23; 40:27) Then he measured the width from the front

of the lower gate to the outer front of the inner court, a hundred cubits

[About 175 feet, or 53 meters; and in vv. 23, 27, and 47. ]

eastward and northward.

The North Gate

20 As for the gate of the outer court that faced north,

he measured its length and its width.

21 (Eze 40:29-30) Its little chambers, three on this side

and three on that side, its posts, and its arches had the same measurements

as the first gate; its length was 50 cubits, and its width 25 cubits.

22 (Eze 40:31; 40:37) Its windows, and those of its arches,

and its palm trees had the same measurements as the gate facing east.

Seven steps led up to it; and its arches were in front of it.

23 (Eze 40:19; 40:27-28) The gate of the inner court was opposite

the gate on the north, as on the east. And he measured from gate to gate,

a hundred cubits.

The South Gate

24 (Eze 40:6; 40:20-21) After that he brought me toward the south,

and there was a gate facing south. And he measured its posts

and its arches according to these same measurements.

25 (Eze 40:33; 40:16) There were windows in it and in its arches

all around like those windows. The length was fifty cubits,

and the width 25 cubits.

26 (Eze 40:22; 40:16; 40:6) There were seven steps to go up to it,

and its arches were before them. And it had palm tree ornaments,

one on this side, and another on that side on its posts.

27 (Eze 40:23; 40:32; 40:19) There was a gate in the inner court

facing south. And he measured from gate to gate toward the south,

a hundred cubits.

The Inner Court

28 (Eze 40:35; 40:32) He brought me to the inner court by the south gate.

And he measured the south gate according to these same measurements.

29 (Eze 40:25; 40:7) And its little chambers and its posts and its arches

were according to these same measurements. And there were windows in it

and in its arches all around. It was 50 cubits long and 25 cubits wide.

30 (Eze 40:21) The arches all around were 25 cubits long and 5 cubits wide.

31 (Eze 40:26; 40:22; 40:34) Its arches faced the outer court.

And palm tree ornaments were on its posts. And its staircase had eight steps.

32 (Eze 40:28-31; 40:35) He brought me into the inner court facing east.

And he measured the gate according to these same measurements.

33 (Eze 40:21) Its little chambers and its posts and its arches

were according to these same measurements. And there were windows

in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits

[About 1 1/2 miles, or 2.4 kilometers.] long and 25 cubits wide.

34 (Eze 40:22; 40:31) Its arches faced the outer court. And palm tree

ornaments were on its posts, on this side and on that side.

And its staircase had eight steps.

35 (Eze 47:2; 40:32) He brought me to the north gate and measured it

according to these same measurements;

36 (Eze 40:21; 40:29) its little chambers, its posts, and its arches,

and it had windows all around: the length was 50 cubits, and the width

25 cubits.

37 (Eze 40:34) Its posts faced the outer court. And palm tree ornaments

were on its posts, on this side and on that side. And its staircase

had eight steps.

Chambers for Washing the Sacrifice

38 (2Ch 4:6) The chambers and its entrance were by the posts

of the gates where they washed the burnt offering.

39 (Lev 1:3-17; 4:2-3) In the vestibule of the gate were two tables

on this side and two tables on that side, to slay on it the burnt offering

and the sin offering and the trespass offering.

40 On the outside of the vestibule, as one goes up to the entrance

of the north gate, were two tables. And on the other side of the vestibule

of the gate were two tables.

41 Four tables were on this side and four tables on that side by the side

of the gate, eight tables on which they slaughtered their sacrifices.

42 (Eze 40:39; Ex 20:25) The four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt

offering, of a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half wide,

and one cubit high.

[About 2 2/3 feet long and wide and 21 inches high,

or 80 centimeters long and wide and 53 centimeters high.]

On which also they laid the instruments with which they slaughtered

the burnt offering and the sacrifice.

43 Within were hooks, a handbreadth wide,

[About 3 1/2 inches, or 9 centimeters.] fastened all around.

And on the tables was the flesh of the offering.

Chambers for the Singers and Priests

44 (1Ch 6:31-32; 16:41-43) Outside the inner gate were the chambers

for the singers in the inner court, one at the side of the north gate

facing south, the other at the side of the east gate facing north.

45 (1Ch 9:23; Lev 8:35) He said to me, "This chamber that faces south

is for the priests who have charge of the temple.

46 (Eze 44:15; 1Ki 2:35; Eze 43:19) The chamber that faces north is

for the priests who have charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok

among the sons of Levi, who come near to the Lord to minister to Him."

47 (Eze 40:19; 40:23) So he measured the court, a hundred cubits long,

and a hundred cubits wide, foursquare. And the altar was before the temple.

The Vestibule of the Temple

48 (1Ki 6:3; 2Ch 3:4) Then he brought me to the vestibule of the temple

and measured each post of the vestibule, five cubits

[About 8.75 feet, or 2.7 meters.] on this side, and five cubits on that side.

And the width of the gate was three cubits [About 5 1/4 feet, or 1.6 meters.]

on this side and three cubits on that side.

49 (1Ki 7:15-21; 2Ch 3:17) The length of the vestibule was twenty cubits

[About 35 feet, or 11 meters.] and the width eleven cubits.

[About 19.25 feet, or 5.9 meters. And he brought me by the steps whereby

they went up to it. And there were pillars by the posts,

one on this side and another on that side.

Ezekiel 41

The Inner Temple

1 (Eze 40:2-3; 40:17) Afterward he brought me to the temple

and measured the posts, six cubits

[About 11 feet, or 3.2 meters; and in vv. 3, 5, and 8.]

wide on the one side and six cubits wide on the other side,

which was the width of the tabernacle.

2 (1Ki 6:2; 6:17) The width of the door was ten cubits.

[About 18 feet, or 5.3 meters.] And the sides of the door were five cubits

[About 8 3/4 feet, or 2.7 meters; and in vv. 9, 11, and 12.] on the one side

and five cubits on the other side. And he measured its length, forty cubits,

and the width, twenty cubits. [About 70 feet long and 35 feet wide,

or 21 meters long and 11 meters wide.]

3 Then he went inward and measured the post of the door, two cubits,

[About 3 1/2 feet, or 1.1 meters; and in v. 22.] and the door, six cubits,

and the width of the door, seven cubits. [About 12 feet, or 3.7 meters.]

4 (1Ki 6:20; Heb 9:3-8) So he measured its length, twenty cubits.

And before the temple, the width was twenty cubits. And he said to me,

"This is the Most Holy Place."

5 Afterward he measured the wall of the temple, six cubits,

and the width of every side chamber, four cubits,

[About 7 feet, or 2.1 meters.] all around the temple on every side.

6 (1Ki 6:10) The side chambers were in three stories, one above the other,

thirty in each story. There were offsets all around to serve as supports

for the side chambers, so that they should not be supported by the wall

of the temple.

7 (1Ki 6:8) The side chambers became wider with each successive story

going up because the structures went up all around the temple.

Therefore the width of the temple increased going upwards

and thus one went up from the lowest to the highest level

through the middle level.

8 (Eze 40:5) I saw also the height all around the temple. The foundations

of the side chambers were a full reed of six great cubits.

9 (Eze 41:11) The thickness of the wall of the side chambers was five cubits.

And that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within.

10 Between the chambers was the wideness of twenty cubits

all around the temple on every side.

11 (Eze 41:9) The doors of the side chambers opened onto the open place,

one door toward the north and another door toward the south.

And the width of the open place was five cubits all around.

12 (Eze 41:13-15; 42:1) Now the building that was facing the separate yard

on the west side was seventy cubits [About 123 feet, or 37 meters.] wide.

And the wall of the building was five cubits thick all around,

and its length ninety cubits. [About 158 feet, or 48 meters.]

13 (Eze 40:47) So he measured the temple, a hundred cubits long;

and the separate yard and the building with its walls, a hundred cubits long;

[About 21 inches, or 53 centimeters; and in vv. 14 and 17.]

14 also the width of the eastern face of the temple and the separate yard

was a hundred cubits.

15 (Eze 42:3; 42:1) Then he measured the length of the building facing

the yard at the west, together with its galleries on either side,

one hundred cubits with the nave of the temple and the porches of the court,

16 (1Ki 6:4; 6:15) the doorposts and the narrow windows. The galleries

all around their three stories opposite the threshold were paneled with wood

from the ground to the windows (the windows were covered),

17 from the space above the door, even to the inner room, as well as outside,

and on every wall all around, inside and outside, by measure.

18 (1Ki 7:36; Eze 40:16) It was made with cherubim and palm trees,

so that a palm tree was between cherub and cherub.

And every cherub had two faces,

19 (Eze 10:14; 1:10) so that the face of a man was toward the palm tree

on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree

on the other side. It was made throughout the temple all round.

20 From the ground to the top of the door and on the wall of the nave,

cherubim and palm trees were carved.

21 (Eze 41:1; 1Ki 6:33) The posts of the temple and the face of the sanctuary

were squared. The appearance of the one was as the appearance of the other.

22 (Eze 23:41; 44:16) The altar of wood was three cubits

[About 5 1/4 feet, or 1.5 meters.] high, and its length two cubits.

And its corners and its length and its walls were of wood.

And he said to me, "This is the table that is before the Lord."

23 (1Ki 6:31-35) The temple and the sanctuary had two doors.

24 (1Ki 6:34) The doors had two leaves apiece, two turning leaves.

Two leaves were for the one door, and two leaves for the other door.

25 (Eze 41:18) There were made on them, on the doors of the temple,

cherubim and palm trees like those made on the walls.

And there were thick planks on the front of the vestibule outside.

26 (Eze 41:16; 40:16) There were beveled windows and palm trees on both sides,

on the sides of the vestibule; thus were the side chambers of the temple

and the thresholds.

Ezekiel 42

The Chambers for the Priests

1 (Eze 40:17; 40:20) Then he brought me out into the outer court,

toward the north; and he brought me into the chamber

that was opposite the separate yard and which was opposite

the building on the north.

2 Before the length of a hundred cubits was the north door,

and the width was fifty cubits. [About 175 feet long and 88 feet wide,

or 53 meters long and 27 meters wide.]

3 (Eze 41:15-16; 41:10) Opposite the twenty cubits

[About 35 feet, or 11 meters.] that belonged to the inner court,

and opposite the pavement that belonged to the outer court,

was gallery against gallery in three stories.

4 (Eze 46:19) In front of the chambers was a passage on the inner side,

ten cubits wide and one hundred cubits

[About 18 feet wide and 175 feet long, or 5.3 meters wide and 53 meters long.]

deep; and their doors faced north.

5 Now the upper chambers were shorter. For the galleries were higher

than these, than the lower and the middle ones of the building.

6 (Eze 41:6) For they were in three stories, but had no pillars as the pillars

of the courts. Therefore the building was set back more than the lowest

and the middle ones from the ground.

7 And a wall that was outside was parallel to the chambers, toward the outer

court, opposite the chambers; its length was fifty cubits.

8 For the length of the chambers that were

in the outer court was fifty cubits.

And the length of those before the temple was a hundred cubits.

9 (Eze 46:19; 44:5) From under these chambers was the entrance

on the east side as one goes into them from the outer court.

10 (Eze 42:1; 42:13) The chambers were in the thickness of the wall

of the court toward the east, opposite the separate yard

and opposite the building,

11 with a passage in front of them; they were like the appearance

of the chambers which were toward the north, of the same length and width.

And all their exits and arrangements were according to plan.

12 Corresponding to the doors of the chambers that were facing south

was a door at the head of the passage way, the passage way directly

in front of the wall toward the east.

13 (Lev 7:6; 10:17; Eze 40:46) Then he said to me, "The north chambers

and the south chambers, which are before the separate place,

are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the Lord shall eat

the most holy offerings. There they shall lay the most holy offerings

-the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering-

for the place is holy.

14 (Eze 44:19; Lev 8:7) When the priests enter it, then they shall not go

out of the holy place into the outer court, but there they shall lay

their garments in which they minister, for they are holy.

And they shall put on other garments, and shall approach those things

which are for the people."

15 (Eze 43:1) Now when he had made an end of measuring the inner temple,

he brought me out by the gate that faces east, and measured it all around.

16 (Eze 40:3) He measured the east side with the measuring reed, 500 cubits

[500 cubits equal about 875 feet, or 265 meters; and in vv. 17, 18, and 19.]

with the measuring reed all around.

17 He measured the north side with the measuring reed round about, 500 reeds.

18 He measured the south side with the measuring reed, five hundred reeds.

19 He turned about to the west side

and measured 500 reeds with the measuring reed.

20 (Eze 45:2; 22:26; 40:5) He measured it by the four sides. It had a wall

all around, five hundred reeds long and five hundred wide,

[Five hundred cubits equal about 875 feet, or 265 meters.]

to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.

Isaiah 6:1-8

Isaiah 6

The Commission of Isaiah

1 (Jn 12:41; 2Ki 15:7) In the year that King Uzziah died

I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up,

and His train filled the temple.

2 (Rev 4:8; Ps 103:20) Above it stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings.

With two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet,

and with two he flew.

3 (Ps 72:19; Nu 14:21) One cried to another and said:

"Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of Hosts;

the whole earth is full of His glory."

4 (Rev 15:8; Am 9:1) The posts of the door moved at the voice of him

who cried, and the house was filled with smoke.

5 (Ex 33:20; Jer 9:3-8) And I said: "Woe is me! For I am undone

because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people

of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of Hosts."

6 (Rev 8:3-5) Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal

which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar in his hand.

7 (Jer 1:9; Da 10:16) And he laid it on my mouth, and said,

"This has touched your lips, and your iniquity is taken away,

and your sin purged."

8 (Ge 1:26; 3:22) Also I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

"Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?"

Then I said, "Here am I. Send me."

When Swedish missionary Eric Lund felt called by God to go to Spain

to do mission work in the late 1890s, he immediately obeyed.

He saw little success there, but persevered in his conviction

of God's calling. One day, he met a Filipino man, Braulio Manikan,

and shared the gospel with him. Together, Lund and Manikan

translated the Bible into a local Philippine language,

and later they started the first Baptist mission station in the Philippines.

Many would turn to Jesus-all because Lund, like the prophet Isaiah,

responded to God's call.

In Isaiah 6:8, God asked for a willing person to go to Israel

to declare His judgment for the present and hope for the future.

Isaiah volunteered boldly:"Here am I. Send me!" He didn't think

he was qualified, for he'd confessed earlier:

"I am a man of unclean lips" (v. 5). But he responded willingly

because he'd witnessed God's holiness, recognized his own sinfulness,

and received His cleansing (vv. 1–7).

Is God calling you to do something for Him? Are you holding back?

If so, remember all God has done through Jesus' death and resurrection.

He's given us the Holy Spirit to help and guide us (John 14:26; 15:26-27),

and He'll prepare us to answer His call. Like Isaiah,

may we respond, "Send me!"

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 4 - Giving and Receiving

Luke 6:38

38 "Give, and it will be given to you: Good measure, pressed down,

shaken together, and running over will men give unto you.

For with the measure you use, it will be measured unto you."

"Just give the Lord", the voice on the radio declared. "Give, and he will

give back to you, a hundredfold." The preacher went on to explain how

an old woman on social security had sent her last $10 to support his

ministry, and the next day she got an anonymous money order for

a $1000 . "The Lord will be faithful to his Word," the preacher

concluded. "You give, and you'll receive."

The Lord is, of course, faithful to his Word. But many well-meaning Christians

have interpreted Luke 6:38 as a "paymant in kind" bargain with God:

if I give God my dollar, he's obliged to return it to me with interest.

This "seed-sowing" fallacy, where $20 supposedly becomes $2000 by

an act of divine, multiplication, has caused much

disappointment and frustration.

The "giving and receiving" principle is a valid one; the Lord does, indeed say

"Give, and it will be given to you," but he does not specify what the "return"

will be. The verse appears in the context of forgiveness, of not judging; the

principle is not investment, in any material sense, but generosity.

As we give, as few are compassionate with others, we take on the

character of the Lord himself. He is generous and giving, and he gives

to us as we give ourselves in love to others.

Application

a) Have I ever "given" to God ot to others as a bribe, to get something

in return?

b) What is God's concept of giving, as demonstrated

in the gift of Jeus Christ?

c) How can this verse help me to give more selflessly?

4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland

Romans 13:7-8

7 (Mt 17:25; 22:21) Render to all what is due them: taxes to whom taxes

are due, respect to whom respect is due, fear to whom fear is due,

and honor to whom honor is due.

8 (Ro 13:10; Mt 7:12) Owe no one anything, except to love one another,

for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:

God's Eternal Faithfulness

Ps 117

1 Praise the Lord, all you nations! Exalt Him, all you peoples!

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) For His merciful kindness is great toward us,

and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever

Remember God's promises when You pray

The Lord's prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020

Under the Keep Praying page

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

Peter's Speech at Pentecost

14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.

- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."

Ideas for prayer

- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!

My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
