NUMBERS 35
The Levites' Cities
(Dt 4:41-43; 19:1-14; Jos 20:1-9)
1 (Nu 22:1) And the Lord spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab
by Jordan near Jericho, saying:
2 (Jos 14:3-4; Eze 48:8) Command the children of Israel,
and they will give to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession
cities to dwell in, and you will give the Levites pasturelands
around the city.
3 The cities will be for them to dwell in, and their pasturelands will be
for their livestock, and for their property, and for all their animals.
4 The pasturelands of the cities, which you will give to the Levites,
will reach from the wall of the city
and beyond one thousand Âcubits
(About 1,500 feet, or 450 meters.)
all around.
5 You will measure from without the city on the east side two thousand
cubits, (About 3,000 feet, or 900 meters.) and on the south side 2000 cubits,
and on the west side 2000 cubits, and on the north side 2000 cubits,
and the city will be in the middle. This will be for them
the pasturelands of the cities.
Cities of Refuge
6 (Jos 21:3; 21:13) Among the cities which you will give to the Levites
there will be six cities of refuge, which you will appoint
for the manslayer, that he may flee there,
and to them you will add 42 cities.
7 So all the cities which you will give to the Levites will be 48 cities.
You will give them with their pasturelands.
8 (Nu 26:54; 33:54) The cities which you shall give shall be from
the possession of the children of Israel. From the larger tribes
you shall give many, and from the smaller tribes you shall give few.
Each tribe, in proportion to the inheritance that it receives,
shall give of its cities to the Levites.
9 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

When you are crossing over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,
11 (Ex 21:13; Jos 20:2) then you shall designate cities as
your cities of refuge,
so that a manslayer who unintentionally kills a person may flee there.
12 (Dt 19:6; Jos 20:3-6) The cities will be for you a refuge from
the avenger, so that the manslayer does not die until he stands trial
before the assembly.
13 The cities which you designate shall be your six cities of refuge.
14 You will give three cities across the Jordan, and three cities you
will give in the land of Canaan, which will be cities of refuge.
15 (Nu 15:16) For the children of Israel, and for the stranger,
and for the foreign sojourner among them will be six cities.
These will be for a refuge. Everyone that unintentionally kills
any person may flee there.
16 (Lev 24:17) If he strikes him with an instrument of iron, so that he dies,
he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.
17 If he strikes him with a stone in hand, by which hecould die,
and he dies, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.
18 Or if he strikes him with a weapon of wood in hand, by which
he could die, and he dies, he is a murderer. The murderer shall
surely be put to death.
19 (Nu 35:21; Dt 19:6) The avenger of blood himself will slay the murderer.
When he meets him, he will slay him.
20 (Ex 21:14; Dt 19:11) But if he pushed him out of hatred, or threw something
at him, lying in wait, so he dies,
21 or in hatred struck him with his hand, so he died, he that struck him shall
surely be put to death, because he is a murderer. The avenger of blood will
slay the murderer when he meets him.
22 (Ex 21:13; Nu 35:11) But if he pushed him suddenly without hatred,
or threw anything at him without lying in wait,
23 or used a stone that may cause death, unintentionally throwing it at him,
resulting in death, though they were not enemies,
and was not trying to harm him,
24 (Jos 20:6; Nu 35:12) then the assembly will judge between the manslayer
and the avenger of blood according to these judgments.
25 (Ex 29:7; Lev 4:3) And the assembly will deliver the manslayer out of the
hand of the avenger of blood, and the assembly will restore him to the city
of his refuge where he fled, and he will dwell in it until the death of
the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
26 But if the manslayer will go out at any time beyond
the border of the city of his refuge where he fled,
27 and the avenger of blood finds him outside the borders of the city of
his refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he will not
be guilty of blood,
28 because the manslayer should have remained in the city of his refuge
until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest
the manslayer may return to the land of his possession.
29 (Nu 27:11) So these things will be for a statute of judgment to you
throughout your generations in all your dwelling places.
30 (Dt 19:15; Mt 18:16) Whoever kills a person, the murderer will be put
to death by the testimony of witnesses, but one witness will not testify
against a person for death.
31 And you will not take a ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty
of death, but he will surely be put to death.
32 You will not take a ransom for him who fled to the city of his refuge,
that he should come out again to dwell in the land,
until the death of the priest.
33 (Mic 4:11; Ge 9:6) So you will not defile the land which you are in,
because blood defiles the land, and the land cannot be cleansed of the
blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of him that shed it.
34 (Nu 5:3) So do not defile the land which you are dwelling in,
where I am residing, because I the Lord am residing
among the children of Israel.

Marriage of Female Heirs
Nu 27:1–11
1 (Nu 27:1)And the chief fathers of the families of the children of Gilead
the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph,
came near, and spoke before Moses and before the leaders, the chief fathers
of the children of Israel.
2 (Nu 33:54) And they said, "The Lord commanded my lord to give the land
for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel,
and my lord was commanded by the Lord to give the inheritance of Zelophehad
our brother to his daughters.
3 If they are married to any of the sons of the other tribes
of the children of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance
of our fathers and will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to
which they are married, so will it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.
4 When the jubilee of the children of Israel happens, then their inheritance
will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they are married,
so their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe
of our fathers."
5 (Nu 27:7) Moses commanded the children of Israel according to the word
of the Lord, saying: "The tribe of the sons of Joseph has spoken right.
6 (Nu 36:12) This is the thing which the Lord commands concerning
the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, 'Let them marry whom they think best.
But they may marry only within a clan of their father's tribe.
7 (1Ki 21:3) So the inheritance of the children of Israel will not turn
from tribe to tribe, because every one of the children of Israel will keep
the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers.
8 (1Ch 23:22) Every daughter that possesses an inheritance in any tribe
of the children of Israel will be wife to one of the families of the tribe
of her father, so every man of the children of Israel may enjoy
the inheritance of his fathers.
9 Thus no inheritance will turn from one tribe to another tribe,
but every tribe of the children of Israel will keep its own inheritance.' "
10 Just as the Lord commanded Moses, thus the daughters of Zelophehad did,
11 (Nu 27:1_for Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milkah, and Noah,
the daughters of Zelophehad, were married to their uncles' sons.
12 And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh
the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the
family of their father.
13 (Lev 27:34; Nu 22:1) These are the commandments and the judgments
which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to the children of Israel
in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho.

PHILIPPIANS 4
1 (Php 1:8; 1:27; 1Co 16:13) Therefore, my beloved and longed
for brothers, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my beloved.
Exhortations
2 (Php 2:2-3) I exhort Euodia and Syntyche to be
of the same mind in the Lord.
3 (Lk 10:20; Php 1:27) I ask you also, true companion,
help those women who labored with me in the gospel,
with Clement also, and with my other fellow laborers,
whose names are in the Book of Life.
4 (Php 3:1; Ro 12:12) Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 (Jas 5:8-9) Let everyone come to know your gentleness. The Lord is at hand.
6 (Eph 6:18; Mt 6:25-33) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything,
by prayer and supplication with gratitude, make your requests known to God.
7 (Jn 14:27; Col 3:15; Isa 26:3) And the peace of God, which surpasses
all understanding, will protect your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 (Ac 6:3; 10:22) Finally, brothers, whatever things are true,
whatever things are honest, whatever things are just,
whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue,
and if there is any praise, think on these things.

and received, and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
As I helped my son with his math homework, it became apparent he was less
than enthusiastic about doing multiple problems related to the same concept.
"I've got it, Dad!" he insisted, hoping I would let him out of doing all
of his assignment. I then gently explained to him that a concept is just
a concept until we learn how to work it out in practice.
Paul wrote about practice to his friends in Philippi. "Whatever you have
learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice"
(Philippians 4:9). He mentions five things: reconciliation-as he urged
Euodia and Syntyche to do (vv. 2-3); joy-as he reminded his readers
to cultivate (v. 4); gentleness-as he urged them to employ in their
relation to the world (v. 5); prayer-as he had modeled for them in person
and in writing (vv. 6-7); and focus-as he had shown even in prison (v.
.
Reconciliation, joy, gentleness, prayer, and focus-things we're called
to live out as believers in Jesus. Like any habit, these virtues must
be practiced in order to be cultivated.
But the good news of the gospel, as Paul had already told the Philippians,
is that "it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill
his good purpose" (2:13). We're never practicing in our own power.
God will provide what we need (4:19).

Week 5 Rejoice in Grace - Day 4 Under the Mercy
Ps 13:5-6
5 I for my part confide in Your kindness;
may my heart exult in Your salvation!
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because He has dealt bountifully withme.
In Sheldon Vanauken's book "A Severe Mercy", Vanauken faced the "severe mercy"
of the untimely death of his wife. His friend C. S. Lewis , who had endured a
similar grief , comforted him through letters,
encouraging him with the exhotation, "Go under the Mercy".
While god's grace deals with sin and forgiveness,
God's mercy deals with the pain pf human existence. We all experience pain
- sometimes as a natural result of wrongs we have done, sometimes unfairly
as a consequence of living in a fallen world. But for all who hurt, God provides
mercy - respite from pain, and the assurance of a Lord who cares.
David , in Psalm 13 says " I trust in your mercy, your unfailing love."
God's love never fail us, no matter how much we may have failed him.
David knew the consequences of sin; he knew what it meant to fail God,
to rebel against God's faithfulness. Yet David trusted in God's Goodness
rather than depending upon his own; he focused his attention upon the
mercy of the Lord.
We need, like David, to "Go under the mercy" , even when it is a "severe mercy."
Even when circumstances seem bad; even when things seem out of control; even
when we think God has forsaken us, yet his mercy is at work to bring us
fulfillment and cause us to utrn to him
with a song of praise on our lips.

Quick facts on Muslims in Saskatchewan

CNMM Networks: Saskatoon
Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.
Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the
spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon
to spread and grow to other cities.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

Pray to the Lord to find His Righteousness.
Pray to the Lord to practice reconciliation,
joy, gentleness, focus and prayer.
Pray to the Lord to experience his Mercy.
Pray to the Lord to understand the Seron of the Mount.
Pray to the Lord to know Him better .
Pray for Muslims in Saskatchewan to receive Christ as Saviour .
Pray for the Lord that every citizen in your nation/country
will come to know the Lord.
Pray for the Lord for all the students to come to know him.
Repent of and turn away from your sins
and Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness
Remember eternity starts now -
Pray for the direction you take to the Ever lasting loving God.

PHILIPPIANS 4

for brothers, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my beloved.
Exhortations
2 (Php 2:2-3) I exhort Euodia and Syntyche to be
of the same mind in the Lord.
3 (Lk 10:20; Php 1:27) I ask you also, true companion,
help those women who labored with me in the gospel,
with Clement also, and with my other fellow laborers,
whose names are in the Book of Life.
4 (Php 3:1; Ro 12:12) Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 (Jas 5:8-9) Let everyone come to know your gentleness. The Lord is at hand.
6 (Eph 6:18; Mt 6:25-33) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything,
by prayer and supplication with gratitude, make your requests known to God.

As I helped my son with his math homework, it became apparent he was less
than enthusiastic about doing multiple problems related to the same concept.
"I've got it, Dad!" he insisted, hoping I would let him out of doing all
of his assignment. I then gently explained to him that a concept is just
a concept until we learn how to work it out in practice.
Paul wrote about practice to his friends in Philippi. "Whatever you have
learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice"
(Philippians 4:9). He mentions five things: reconciliation-as he urged
Euodia and Syntyche to do (vv. 2-3); joy-as he reminded his readers
to cultivate (v. 4); gentleness-as he urged them to employ in their
relation to the world (v. 5); prayer-as he had modeled for them in person
and in writing (vv. 6-7); and focus-as he had shown even in prison (v.
. Reconciliation, joy, gentleness, prayer, and focus-things we're called
to live out as believers in Jesus. Like any habit, these virtues must
be practiced in order to be cultivated.
But the good news of the gospel, as Paul had already told the Philippians,
is that "it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill
his good purpose" (2:13). We're never practicing in our own power.
God will provide what we need (4:19).

Week 5 Rejoice in Grace - Day 4 Under the Mercy
Ps 13:5-6
5 I for my part confide in Your kindness;
may my heart exult in Your salvation!
6 I will sing to the Lord,
because He has dealt bountifully withme.
In Sheldon Vanauken's book "A Severe Mercy", Vanauken faced the "severe mercy"
of the untimely death of his wife. His friend C. S. Lewis , who had endured a
similar grief , comforted him through letters,
encouraging him with the exhotation, "Go under the Mercy".
While god's grace deals with sin and forgiveness,
God's mercy deals with the pain pf human existence. We all experience pain
- sometimes as a natural result of wrongs we have done, sometimes unfairly
as a consequence of living in a fallen world. But for all who hurt, God provides
mercy - respite from pain, and the assurance of a Lord who cares.
David , in Psalm 13 says " I trust in your mercy, your unfailing love."
God's love never fail us, no matter how much we may have failed him.
David knew the consequences of sin; he knew what it meant to fail God,
to rebel against God's faithfulness. Yet David trusted in God's Goodness
rather than depending upon his own; he focused his attention upon the
mercy of the Lord.
We need, like David, to "Go under the mercy" , even when it is a "severe mercy."
Even when circumstances seem bad; even when things seem out of control; even
when we think God has forsaken us, yet his mercy is at work to bring us
fulfillment and cause us to utrn to him
with a song of praise on our lips.

Saskatoon has seen quick growth in its Muslim population over the past
5 years, which maybe as high as 5000 today. Islamic leaders have
focused specifically on this city , having twice already sent cohorts
of about 70 families to start mosques. There are now 7 Islamic centres
of worship and an ISlamic madrassah (school) located right next to a
Christian school.
Of particular concern recently is the number of young adults who grew up
in evangelical churches and converted to Islam. Most of these are young
women whowere wooed by Muslim man and became emotionally bonded.
Both prior to and after marrying, these women are known to convert to ISlam.
Agree in prayer with us for:
- entire congregations and individual believers to catch God's heart
and passion for reaching Muslims in Saskatoon and the other growing
Muslim population centres of Saskatchewan.
- for the eyes and understanding of Canadian youth to be opened to the
spiritual reality of Islam, and not deceived nor manipulated into
converting to a religion which cannot offer assurance of salvation.
- for the few workers among Muslims now engaged there, and for many more
to be raised up into effective witness.
- for prayer and training events that are starting in Saskatoon
to spread and grow to other cities.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

Pray to the Lord to know Him better .
Pray for Muslims in Saskatchewan to receive Christ as Saviour .
Pray for the Lord that every citizen in your nation/country
will come to know the Lord.
Pray for the Lord for all the students to come to know him.
Repent of and turn away from your sins
and Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness
Remember eternity starts now -
Pray for the direction you take to the Ever lasting loving God.
