Habakkuk 1
1 (Na 1:1) The oracle that Habakkuk the prophet saw.
Habakkuk's Complaint
2 (Ps 13:1-2; 22:1-2) O Lord, how long shall I cry,
and You will not hear?
Or cry to You, "Violence!"
and You will not save?
3 (Ps 55:9-11; Jer 9:2-6) Why do You make me see wickedness,
and cause me to see trouble?
Plundering and violence are before me;
strife and contention arise.
4 (Ps 119:126; Eze 9:9) Therefore the law is powerless,
and justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
therefore injustice proceeds.
The Lord's Answer
5 (Isa 29:14; Eze 12:22-28) Look among the nations,
and watch - wonder and be amazed!
For I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe,
though it were told you.
6 (2Ki 24:2; Jer 5:15) For I am raising up the Chaldeans,
that bitter and hasty nation
which marches through the breadth of the earth,
to possess dwelling places that are not theirs.
7 (Jer 39:5-9) They are terrible and dreadful;
their justice and their dignity
proceed from themselves.
8 (Jer 4:13; Zep 3:3) Their horses are swifter than leopards,
more fierce than evening wolves.
Their horsemen charge on;
their horsemen come from afar;
they fly like the eagle that hastens to eat.
9 They all come for violence;
their forces advance like the east wind.
They gather captives like sand.
10 (2Ch 36:6; 36:10) They scoff at kings,
and they scorn rulers.
They deride every stronghold,
for they build up siege ramps to capture it.

and they transgress and commit offense;
their own power is their god.
Habakkuk's Second Complaint
12 (Dt 32:4; 33:27) Are You not from everlasting,
O Lord my God, my Holy One? We will not die.
O Lord, You have appointed them for judgment;
and You, O Rock, have established them for correction.
13 (Ps 34:15-16; 35:22) Your eyes are too pure to look on evil,
and You cannot look on wickedness.
Why do You look on those who deal treacherously,
and hold Your tongue when the wicked
devours the man who is more righteous than he?
14 You make men like fish of the sea,
like crawling things that have no ruler.
15 (Jer 16:16; Am 4:2) They bring all of them up with a hook,
they catch them in their net;
they gather them in their dragnet.
Therefore they rejoice and are glad.
16 (Hab 1:11) Therefore they sacrifice to their net
and burn incense to their dragnet;
for by them their portion is extravagant,
and their food plentiful.
17 Shall they continue to empty their net,
and continually kill the nations while not sparing anyone?

[1] The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.
[2] O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto
thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!
[3] Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for
spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and
contention.
[4] Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the
wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment
proceedeth.
[5] Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I
will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told
you.
[6] For, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which

imputing this his power unto his god.

not die. O LORD, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God,

[13] Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on
iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and
holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous
than he?
[14] And makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that
have no ruler over them?
[15] They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net,
and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad.
[16] Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and burn incense unto their

the nations?
Habakkuk 2
1 (Ps 85:8; Isa 21:8) I will stand at my watch
and station myself on the watchtower;
and I will keep watch to see what He will say to me,
and what I will answer when I am reproved.
The Just Shall Live by Faith
2 (Dt 27:8; Isa 8:1) And the Lord answered me:
Write the vision,
and make it plain on tablets,
that he who reads it may run.
3 (Da 10:14; Ps 27:14) For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
but it speaks of the end,
and does not lie.
If it delays, wait for it;
it will surely come, it will not delay.
4 (Ro 1:17; Heb 10:38; Jn 3:36) Look, his soul is lifted up;
it is not upright in him;
but the just shall live by his faith.
5 (Pr 27:20; 20:1) Indeed, wine betrays the proud man,
who does not stay at home.
He enlarges his appetite as Sheol,
and like death he is never satisfied.
He gathers to himself all nations
and collects for himself all peoples.
Woe to the Wicked
6 (Nu 23:7; Job 20:15-29) Shall not all these take up a taunt
against him, with satire and riddles, and say,
"Woe to him who increases what is not his-how long?
And to him who loads himself with heavy debts!"
7 (Pr 29:1) Shall not your debtors rise up suddenly,
and those awake who oppress you?
Then you will be their plunder.
8 (Isa 33:1; Hab 2:17) Because you have plundered many nations,
all the remnant of the people will plunder you,
because of the bloodshed of men and violence of the land,
of the cities and all who live in them.
9 (Jer 49:16) "Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house,
to set his nest on high, to be delivered from the power of calamity!"
10 (2Ki 9:26; Na 1:14) You have given shameful counsel to your house
by cutting off many peoples, and forfeiting your life.
11 (Lk 19:40; Jos 24:27) For the stone will cry out from the wall,
and the beam of the woodwork will answer it.
12 (Mic 3:10; Na 3:1) "Woe to him who builds a town with bloodshed
and establishes a city on iniquity!"

that the people labor to feed fire,
and the nations weary themselves for nothing?

that its maker trusts in what he has shaped
when he makes mute idols?

To the silent stone, "Arise!" Can it teach?
It is overlaid with gold and silver,
and there is no breath at all in it.
20 (Ps 11:4; Zep 1:7) But the Lord is in His holy temple.

[1] I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to
see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
[2] And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain
upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.
[3] For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall
speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely
come, it will not tarry.
[4] Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just
shall live by his faith.
[5] Yea also, because he transgresseth by wine, he is a proud man, neither
keepeth at home, who enlargeth his desire as hell, and is as death, and
cannot be satisfied, but gathereth unto him all nations, and heapeth unto
him all people:
[6] Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting
proverb against him, and say, Woe to him that increaseth that which is not
his! how long? and to him that ladeth himself with thick clay!
[7] Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee, and awake that
shall vex thee, and thou shalt be for booties unto them?
[8] Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people
shall spoil thee; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land,
of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
[9] Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may
set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!
[10] Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and
hast sinned against thy soul.
[11] For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the
timber shall answer it.
[12] Woe to him that buildeth a town with blood, and stablisheth a city by
iniquity!
[13] Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labour in
the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves for very vanity?
[14] For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the
LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
[15] Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle
to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their
nakedness!
[16] Thou art filled with shame for glory: drink thou also, and let thy
foreskin be uncovered: the cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned
unto thee, and shameful spewing shall be on thy glory.
[17] For the violence of Lebanon shall cover thee, and the spoil of beasts,
which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the
land, of the city, and of all that dwell therein.
[18] What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it;
the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work
trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
[19] Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise,
it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is
no breath at all in the midst of it.
[20] But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence
before him.

The Prayer of Habakkuk
1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on Shigionoth.
2 (Ps 85:6; 119:120) O Lord, I have heard the report of You,
and was afraid;
O Lord, revive Your work
in the midst of the years!
In the midst of these years
make them known;
in wrath remember mercy.
3 (Dt 33:2; Ge 21:21) God came from Teman,
and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah
His glory covered the heavens,
and the earth was full of His praise.
4 (Job 26:14) His brightness was like the light;
rays flashed from His hand,
and there His power was hidden.
5 (Ex 12:29-30; Nu 16:46-49) Pestilence went out before Him,
and plague followed His feet.
6 (Ge 49:26; Dt 33:15) He stood and measured the earth;
He looked and shook the nations.
The eternal mountains were scattered,
the perpetual hills bowed.

nor fruit be on the vines;
though the yield of the olive fails,
and the fields produce no food;
though the flocks are cut off from the fold,
and there be no herd in the stalls -

I will exult in the God of my salvation.

the poor secretly.

Deuteronomy 16:9-16
The Feast of Weeks
Lev 23:15-22; Nu 28:26-31
9 (Ex 23:16; 34:22) You must count seven weeks for yourself.
Begin counting the seven weeks from the time you begin
to put the sickle to the standing grain.
10 (1Co 16:2) You must keep the Feast of Weeks to the Lord
your God with a tribute of a freewill offering from your hand,
which you must give to the Lord your God, in proportion to
how much the Lord your God has blessed you.
11 (Dt 12:7; 12:12) You shall rejoice before the Lord your God-you,
your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant,
the Levite who is within your gates, the foreigner, the orphan,
and the widow who are among you-in the place where the Lord
your God has chosen to place His name.
12 (Dt 15:15) You must remember that you were a slave in Egypt,
and you must be careful to observe these statutes.
The Feast of Tabernacles
Lev 23:33-43; Nu 29:12-39
13 (Ex 23:16; Lev 23:34-36) You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles
seven days after you have gathered in your threshing floor
and your winepress,
14 (Dt 16:11; Ne 8:9-12) and you shall rejoice in your feast, you,
your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant,
the Levite, the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow who
are within your gates.
15 You are to celebrate the festival for seven days to the Lord your God
in the place where the Lord will choose, because the Lord your God will
bless you in all your produce, and in all the works of your hands.
Therefore, you will indeed rejoice.

before the Lord your God in the place where He will choose:
at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks,

not appear before the LORD empty:
Attending a large event might change you in a surprising way. After
interacting with more than 1200 people at multiday gatherings in the UK and
US, researcher Daniel Yudkin and his colleagues learned that large festivals
can impact our moral compass and even affect our willingness to share
resources with others. Their research found that 63 percent of attendees had
a "transformative" experience at the festival that also left them feeling
more connected to humanity and more generous toward friends,
family, and even complete strangers.
When we gather with others to worship God, however, we can experience more
than merely the social "transformation" of a secular festival; we commune
with God Himself. God's people undoubtedly experienced that connection to Him
when they gathered in Jerusalem in ancient times for their sacred festivals
throughout the year. They traveled-without modern conveniences-to be present
at the temple three times a year for "the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the
Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles" (Deuteronomy 16:16). These
gatherings were times of solemn remembrance, worship, and rejoicing "before
the Lord" with family, servants, foreigners, and others (v. 11).
Let's gather with others for worship to help one another to continue
to enjoy Him and trust in His faithfulness.

Isaiah 1:18

says the Lord.

they shall be as wool.

though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;

"Is Christianity Reasonable?" Linda Wanted to Know. "I've heard all my life
that faith is a crutch, an invention of weak minds to assure them
of some order in the world."
Linda was not alone in her objection; thinking people for generations
have been asking themselves the same question.
God is not intimidated by our questions; in fact, he confronts the issue
head-on in the Scriptures. "Let us reason together," the Lord invites.
Even according to the most basic of human reasoning,
faith is a reasonable alternative , a rational choice for a thinking person.
God indicates in his Word that confession and forgiveness are "reasonable".
"Think!" God says. "You sin, and you know it. You are not even able to be
true to your own principles. You cannot deal with your sin by will power
or effort. But I can deal with it! I can forgive it - and I will"
We cannot come to faith in God through Christ by intellect alone, of course.
Our spirits much reach out in faith, beyond what we can see. But intellect
supports faith; trusting in Christ is an eminently rational decision.
In Deut 30:1-20 , God set before the people a choice: Life or Death, blessing
or cursing. "Choose Life!" he tells them. We have the same choice.
The ultimate decision is thus simplified, the 'rational' alternative becomes
clear. We can choose death, by attempting to control our own destinies ,
or life, by giving ourselves fully into the hand of the Master.
Application

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim
population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist
church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton
also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship
getherings, and outreaches on campus.
Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the
campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.
Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,
and between 300 to 400 university students.
Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,
which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.
a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,
has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow
into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has
been primarily for university students moving into the area.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

The Feast of Tabernacles
Lev 23:33-43; Nu 29:12-39
13 (Ex 23:16; Lev 23:34-36) You shall observe the Feast of Tabernacles
seven days after you have gathered in your threshing floor
and your winepress,
14 (Dt 16:11; Ne 8:9-12) and you shall rejoice in your feast, you,
your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant,
the Levite, the foreigner, the orphan, and the widow who
are within your gates.
15 You are to celebrate the festival for seven days to the Lord your God
in the place where the Lord will choose, because the Lord your God will
bless you in all your produce, and in all the works of your hands.
Therefore, you will indeed rejoice.
16 (Ex 23:14-17; 34:20) Three times a year all your males must appear
before the Lord your God in the place where He will choose:
at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, at the Feast of Weeks,
and at the Feast of Tabernacles, and they must not appear
before the Lord empty.

Attending a large event might change you in a surprising way. After
interacting with more than 1200 people at multiday gatherings in the UK and
US, researcher Daniel Yudkin and his colleagues learned that large festivals
can impact our moral compass and even affect our willingness to share
resources with others. Their research found that 63 percent of attendees had
a "transformative" experience at the festival that also left them feeling
more connected to humanity and more generous toward friends,
family, and even complete strangers.
When we gather with others to worship God, however, we can experience more
than merely the social "transformation" of a secular festival; we commune
with God Himself. God's people undoubtedly experienced that connection to Him
when they gathered in Jerusalem in ancient times for their sacred festivals
throughout the year. They traveled-without modern conveniences-to be present
at the temple three times a year for "the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the
Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles" (Deuteronomy 16:16). These
gatherings were times of solemn remembrance, worship, and rejoicing "before
the Lord" with family, servants, foreigners, and others (v. 11).
Let's gather with others for worship to help one another to continue
to enjoy Him and trust in His faithfulness.

Isaiah 1:18
18 (Ps 51:7; Rev 7:14) "Come now, and let us reason together, "
says the Lord.

they shall be as wool.

"Is Christianity Reasonable?" Linda Wanted to Know. "I've heard all my life
that faith is a crutch, an invention of weak minds to assure them
of some order in the world."
Linda was not alone in her objection; thinking people for generations
have been asking themselves the same question.
God is not intimidated by our questions; in fact, he confronts the issue
head-on in the Scriptures. "Let us reason together," the Lord invites.
Even according to the most basic of human reasoning,
faith is a reasonable alternative , a rational choice for a thinking person.
God indicates in his Word that confession and forgiveness are "reasonable".
"Think!" God says. "You sin, and you know it. You are not even able to be
true to your own principles. You cannot deal with your sin by will power
or effort. But I can deal with it! I can forgive it - and I will"
We cannot come to faith in God through Christ by intellect alone, of course.
Our spirits much reach out in faith, beyond what we can see. But intellect
supports faith; trusting in Christ is an eminently rational decision.
In Deut 30:1-20 , God set before the people a choice: Life or Death, blessing
or cursing. "Choose Life!" he tells them. We have the same choice.
The ultimate decision is thus simplified, the 'rational' alternative becomes
clear. We can choose death, by attempting to control our own destinies ,
or life, by giving ourselves fully into the hand of the Master.
Application
a) Why is the choice to acknowledge my sin and receive forgiveness a
'Rational choice'?

Moncton, followed by Fredericton and Saint John, each have a growing Muslim
population in New Brunswick, In 2007, the building that was formerly a Baptist
church was converted into Moncton's 1st mosque. The University of Moncton
also has a Muslim student association hosting prayer services, fellowship
getherings, and outreaches on campus.
Fredericton also has one mosque and a Muslim student association serving the
campuses of the University of New Brunswick and St. Thomas University.
Fredericton's Muslim population consists in 2014 of about 50 families,
and between 300 to 400 university students.
Saint John is home to the 1st Muslim Association for the province,
which also helped foster the Islamic associations of Fredericton and Moncton.
a 'musalla', or prayer location that is not officially structured as a mosque,
has been established in the Uptown area with the intention of seeing it grow
into a 2nd official place of Muslim worship. Demand for this new location has
been primarily for university students moving into the area.
Pray for Muslims and New Brunswick
- that the eyes of pastors, believers and entire congregations will be opened
to see this growing body of Muslims, and their hearts will be opened
to sharing God's love in Jesus Christ with them
- that intentional ministries to Muslims will grow and flourish in these
areas of concentration

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
