Psalms 121
A Song of Ascents.
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills,
from where does my help come?
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.

He who keeps you will not slumber.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) Behold, He who guards Israel
shall neither slumber nor sleep.

Rent-a-Friend?
Ecclesiastes 4:7-12
7 (Ecc 4:1) Again, I saw vanity under the sun:
8 (Pr 27:20; Ecc 1:8) There is a man who is alone,
neither having son or brother,
and there is not an end to all his toil,
and his eyes are not satisfied with riches to say,
"For whom do I labor
and cause my life to lack good things?"
Also this is vanity
and a burdensome task.
9 Two are better than one,
because there is a good reward for their labour together.
10 For if they fall,
then one will help up his companion.
But woe to him who is alone when he falls
and has no one to help him up.
11 Also if two lie down together, then they will keep warm;
but how can one keep warm by himself?
12 And if someone might overpower another by himself,
two together can withstand him.
A threefold cord is not quickly broken.
7 Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.
8 There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child
nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye
satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave
my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that
is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat:
but how can one be warm alone?

For many around the world, life is getting lonelier. The number of Americans
who have no friends has quadrupled since 1990. Certain European countries have
up to 20 percent of their population feeling lonely, while in Japan, some
elderly folks have resorted to crime so they can have the companionship
of inmates in jail.
Entrepreneurs have come up with a "solution" to this loneliness epidemic
-rent-a-friend. Hired by the hour, these people will meet you in a café to
talk or accompany you to a party. One such "friend" was asked who her
clientele was. "Lonely, 30- to 40-year-old professionals," she said,
'who work long hours and don't have time to make many friends."
Ecclesiastes 4 describes a person who is all alone, without "son nor brother."
There's "no end" to this worker's toil, yet his success isn't
fulfilling (v.
. "For whom am I toiling . . . ?" he asks, waking up to
his plight. Far better to invest in relationships, which will make his
workload lighter and provide help in trouble (vv. 9-12). Because, ultimately,
success without friendship is "meaningless" (v..
Ecclesiastes tells us that a cord of three strands isn't quickly broken
(v. 12). But neither is it quickly woven. Since true friends can't be rented,
let's invest the time needed to form them, with God as our third strand,
weaving us tightly together.

Week 3 - Saved Now and Forever - Day 4 - Daddy!
Romans 8:15
'For you have not received the spirit of slavery again to fear. But you have
received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba, Father." '
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have
received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
"I've always been a Daddy's girl," Sandi said proudly, and her relationship
with her father proved it. She was never spoiled, but even as a grown woman,
Sandi maintained a closeness with her father, sharing intimately with him the
important issues of her life. And just her use of the name "Daddy" indicated
that he was, indeed a warm, approachable, affectionate man.
Many people are not so fortunate. Some fathers are stern and harsh;
others absent or uncaring, some even abusive. Few have the king of father
who presents a picture of the loving fatherhood of God.
But whatever our concept of fatherhood, God makes clear that he is everything
we always wanted our fathers to be - loving, forgiving, approachable,
totally accepting of us as we are, encouraging us to become all he has
created us to be.
In Romans 8, Paul calls God our "Abba Father". The Aramaic word for Father,
Abba, is an intimate term that might well be translated, Daddy.
God is our "Daddy," our "Abba" - not a distant, stern patriarch ready
to strike us down at the first sign of transgression, but a gentle,
loving Father who longs for us to climb into his lap and let him comfort us.
When we commit ourselves to Christ, Paul indicates, we do not receive a
"spirit of bondage to fear" but a "spirit of adoption." We are not called
to respond to God out of fear, but out of love and reverence.
We can relax and enjoy his presence, for we are his children,
and he is our loving Daddy.

Quick facts on Muslims in Manitoba

CNMM Networks: Winnipeg
The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.
- for current workers among Muslims to be blessed, refreshed and encouraged
with great support
Adding further
Christians often ask, "How can f participate in the unprecedented movements of
God among Muslims today?' The answer is simple, 'Love Muslims.'
Simple, yet difficult to achieve, because Islam has made
itself among the most feared religions on earth. This
reputation stems from a long history of conquests, forced conversions,
discrimination, and terrorist atrocities that stream across our
news media every day.
This perspective is not limited to Christians. It's a view held by Hindus,
Chinese, Socialists, and Buddhists. Islam, with its stark
assessment of "others", separates itself from every non-Muslim people
on earth.
However. Muslims are not Islam. Muslims are individuals, men and women,
boys and girls. For centuries, Muslims in many
parts of the world have isolated themselves in communities that
reinforce the stereotype that Christians are ignorant, worldly.
and slaves to the hedonism that the world so readily offers. This
stereotype needs to be challenged.
It can be tempting for us to fear, flee, and even fight Muslims.
But when we do so we follow a script that Islam has used for centuries
to depict Christians as "others" who must be contested or avoided.
The most direct path to loving Muslims is to
pray for them. When we pray, we take on the very heart of God
God loves Muslims so much that He sent His only Son into the
world to love them, forgive them, and save them
As we pray for Muslims we find that our hearts begin to
change. We begin to see them as God sees them. They are
not the unknown purveyors of a dangerous and threatening
ideology. They are men and women, boys and girls, who are
lost--as we once were--and in need of a Saviour.
When we pray, we take on the very heart of God.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.

Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
ROMANS 15:13
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

But woe to him who is alone when he falls
and has no one to help him up.

A threefold cord is not quickly broken.

For many around the world, life is getting lonelier. The number of Americans
who have no friends has quadrupled since 1990. Certain European countries have
up to 20 percent of their population feeling lonely, while in Japan, some
elderly folks have resorted to crime so they can have the companionship
of inmates in jail.
Entrepreneurs have come up with a "solution" to this loneliness epidemic
-rent-a-friend. Hired by the hour, these people will meet you in a café to
talk or accompany you to a party. One such "friend" was asked who her
clientele was. "Lonely, 30- to 40-year-old professionals," she said,
'who work long hours and don't have time to make many friends."
Ecclesiastes 4 describes a person who is all alone, without "son nor brother."
There's "no end" to this worker's toil, yet his success isn't
fulfilling (v.
. "For whom am I toiling . . . ?" he asks, waking up to his plight. Far better to invest in relationships, which will make his
workload lighter and provide help in trouble (vv. 9-12). Because, ultimately,
success without friendship is "meaningless" (v.
.Ecclesiastes tells us that a cord of three strands isn't quickly broken
(v. 12). But neither is it quickly woven. Since true friends can't be rented,
let's invest the time needed to form them, with God as our third strand,
weaving us tightly together.

Week 3 - Saved Now and Forever - Day 4 - Daddy!
Romans 8:15
'For you have not received the spirit of slavery again to fear. But you have
received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba, Father." '
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have
received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
"I've always been a Daddy's girl," Sandi said proudly, and her relationship
with her father proved it. She was never spoiled, but even as a grown woman,
Sandi maintained a closeness with her father, sharing intimately with him the
important issues of her life. And just her use of the name "Daddy" indicated
that he was, indeed a warm, approachable, affectionate man.
Many people are not so fortunate. Some fathers are stern and harsh;
others absent or uncaring, some even abusive. Few have the king of father
who presents a picture of the loving fatherhood of God.
But whatever our concept of fatherhood, God makes clear that he is everything
we always wanted our fathers to be - loving, forgiving, approachable,
totally accepting of us as we are, encouraging us to become all he has
created us to be.
In Romans 8, Paul calls God our "Abba Father". The Aramaic word for Father,
Abba, is an intimate term that might well be translated, Daddy.
God is our "Daddy," our "Abba" - not a distant, stern patriarch ready
to strike us down at the first sign of transgression, but a gentle,
loving Father who longs for us to climb into his lap and let him comfort us.
When we commit ourselves to Christ, Paul indicates, we do not receive a
"spirit of bondage to fear" but a "spirit of adoption." We are not called
to respond to God out of fear, but out of love and reverence.
We can relax and enjoy his presence, for we are his children,
and he is our loving Daddy.

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers

Christians often ask, "How can f participate in the unprecedented movements of
God among Muslims today?' The answer is simple, 'Love Muslims.'
Simple, yet difficult to achieve, because Islam has made
itself among the most feared religions on earth. This
reputation stems from a long history of conquests, forced conversions,
discrimination, and terrorist atrocities that stream across our
news media every day.
This perspective is not limited to Christians. It's a view held by Hindus,
Chinese, Socialists, and Buddhists. Islam, with its stark
assessment of "others", separates itself from every non-Muslim people
on earth.
However. Muslims are not Islam. Muslims are individuals, men and women,
boys and girls. For centuries, Muslims in many
parts of the world have isolated themselves in communities that
reinforce the stereotype that Christians are ignorant, worldly.
and slaves to the hedonism that the world so readily offers. This
stereotype needs to be challenged.
It can be tempting for us to fear, flee, and even fight Muslims.
But when we do so we follow a script that Islam has used for centuries
to depict Christians as "others" who must be contested or avoided.
The most direct path to loving Muslims is to
pray for them. When we pray, we take on the very heart of God
God loves Muslims so much that He sent His only Son into the
world to love them, forgive them, and save them
As we pray for Muslims we find that our hearts begin to
change. We begin to see them as God sees them. They are
not the unknown purveyors of a dangerous and threatening
ideology. They are men and women, boys and girls, who are
lost--as we once were--and in need of a Saviour.
When we pray, we take on the very heart of God.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

as they make vital decisions that shape Canadian Society

b) Pray for the province of Prince Edward Island
I) Pray for the leaders of Prince Edward Island,
that God's Spirit would influence
then to act justly,
serve with integrity
and honour high moral standards. ( 1 Tim 2:1 - 4
1 Therefore I exhort first of all that you make supplications,
prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good
and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet
and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

that they would be lighthouses
beaming forth the illuminating truth of God's Word.
III) Pray that the Lord would use
the Finding the Hope Campaign
and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus
Conclusion:
Pray to the Lord and pray to fear the Lord and walk in His ways and
lift up your eyes towards Heaven for He is Salvation.
Pray to the Lord: "Father, help me to be a good and loyal friend to others."
Pray to the Lord and pray to acknowledge Abraham's faithfulness.
Pray to the Lord and pray to seek Him diligently
Pray to the Lord and pray to know His throughout all generations.
Agree in prayer with us for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.
- for current workers among Muslims to be blessed, refreshed and encouraged
with great support
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
