PSALMS 56
For the Music Director.

A Miktam of David, when the Philistines seized him in Gath.
1 Be gracious to me, O God, for man would crush me;
all day long he who battles oppresses me.
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) All day long my enemies would crush me,
for there are many who arrogantly battle against me.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) In the day when I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) In God whose word I praise,

What can mere flesh do to me?

daily oppresseth me.

even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
My sister and I clashed frequently when we were younger, but one time
especially stands out in my memory. After a bout of yelling back and forth
where we'd both said hurtful things, she said something that in the moment
seemed unforgivable. Witnessing the animosity growing between us, my
grandmother reminded us of our responsibility to love each other: "God gave
you one sister in life. You’ve got to show each other a little grace," she
said. When we asked God to fill us with love and understanding, He helped us
acknowledge how we'd hurt each other and to forgive one another.
It can be so easy to hold on to bitterness and anger, but God desires for us
to experience the peace that can only come when we ask Him to help us release
feelings of resentment (Ephesians 4:31). Instead of harboring these feelings,
we can look to Christ's example of forgiveness that comes from a place of
love and grace, striving to be "kind and compassionate" and to "[forgive]
each other, just as in Christ God forgave [us]" (v. 32). When we find it
challenging to forgive, may we consider the grace that He extends to us
each day. No matter how many times we fall short, His compassion never fails
(Lamentations 3:22). God can help us remove bitterness from our hearts,
so we're free to remain hopeful and receptive to His love.

Rom 8:1-2
Life in the Spirit
1 (1Co 1:30; 2Co 5:17) There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 (1Co 15:45; Ro 6:18; Jn 8:32) For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.
The Spirit of God Within You
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.
In the classic movie, I want to live! actress Susan Hayward
plays a woman convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed.
The suspense builds; the execution is delayed as the officials
wait for a word of pardon. Finally, the woman in executed;
the call comes, and the pardon has been granted, but it is too late.
When no pardon is granted, condemnation leads to death. Our sin
marks us as "guilty" before God, and we deserve the wages of sin,
which is death. But in Jesus Christ, the pardon does come - and
it comes in time. Our sin deserves condemnation by God, and yet
he forgives us because Christ paid the penalty for us,
But we face other kinds of condemnation as well - self-condemnation,
that internal accusation that we still, somehow, must pay the price
of our own sin. Others often condemn us as well, offering much less
forgiveness and mercy than God does. And the Enemy of our souls condemns
us, trying to convince us that we don't, after all, have real freedom
from sin.
Yet Paul tells us in Romans 8, "There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus". God has forgiven us freely; he has
granted his pardon. And in light of his forgiveness, how can we live
under the condemnation of others - or even of ourselves?
We are free, Paul says - free from the "law of sin and death,"
free to live in the liberty of the Spirit. The stay of execution
has come: the pardon has been granted. Never again can we tried
for the same crimes: never again must we live under the burden
of condemnation.
Application
a) Have I ever lived under the burden of condemnation from myself
or others? Why?
b) How can Romans 8:1-2 help me live in freedom of such condemnation?

CNMM Networks: Winnipeg
The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.
- for current workers among Muslims to be blessed, refreshed and encouraged
with great support

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan and is located
near the border with India. The nation is historically
and culturally related to Iran, Afghanistan, and India.
Since gaining independence in 1947, Pakistan has
struggled to attain political stability and to sustain social
development. The country is estimated to be the home
of 4 million orphaned children and 3.5 million Afghan
refugees. Jesus-followers in Karachi are often severely
persecuted. Since conversations between the Pakistani
government and prominent terrorist groups dissolved in
2021, there has been a sharp increase in attacks targeting
Jesus-followers. The time is now for the Bride of Christ
to stand with the church in Pakistan and pray
for the advancement of the Gospel in every
unreached tribe in Islamabad.

My sister and I clashed frequently when we were younger, but one time
especially stands out in my memory. After a bout of yelling back and forth
where we'd both said hurtful things, she said something that in the moment
seemed unforgivable. Witnessing the animosity growing between us, my
grandmother reminded us of our responsibility to love each other: "God gave
you one sister in life. You’ve got to show each other a little grace," she
said. When we asked God to fill us with love and understanding, He helped us
acknowledge how we'd hurt each other and to forgive one another.
It can be so easy to hold on to bitterness and anger, but God desires for us
to experience the peace that can only come when we ask Him to help us release
feelings of resentment (Ephesians 4:31). Instead of harboring these feelings,
we can look to Christ's example of forgiveness that comes from a place of
love and grace, striving to be "kind and compassionate" and to "[forgive]
each other, just as in Christ God forgave [us]" (v. 32). When we find it
challenging to forgive, may we consider the grace that He extends to us
each day. No matter how many times we fall short, His compassion never fails
(Lamentations 3:22). God can help us remove bitterness from our hearts,
so we're free to remain hopeful and receptive to His love.

Life in the Spirit
1 (1Co 1:30; 2Co 5:17) There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 (1Co 15:45; Ro 6:18; Jn 8:32) For the law of the Spirit of life
in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.
The Spirit of God Within You
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.
In the classic movie, I want to live! actress Susan Hayward
plays a woman convicted of murder and sentenced to be executed.
The suspense builds; the execution is delayed as the officials
wait for a word of pardon. Finally, the woman in executed;
the call comes, and the pardon has been granted, but it is too late.
When no pardon is granted, condemnation leads to death. Our sin
marks us as "guilty" before God, and we deserve the wages of sin,
which is death. But in Jesus Christ, the pardon does come - and
it comes in time. Our sin deserves condemnation by God, and yet
he forgives us because Christ paid the penalty for us,
But we face other kinds of condemnation as well - self-condemnation,
that internal accusation that we still, somehow, must pay the price
of our own sin. Others often condemn us as well, offering much less
forgiveness and mercy than God does. And the Enemy of our souls condemns
us, trying to convince us that we don't, after all, have real freedom
from sin.
Yet Paul tells us in Romans 8, "There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus". God has forgiven us freely; he has
granted his pardon. And in light of his forgiveness, how can we live
under the condemnation of others - or even of ourselves?
We are free, Paul says - free from the "law of sin and death,"
free to live in the liberty of the Spirit. The stay of execution
has come: the pardon has been granted. Never again can we tried
for the same crimes: never again must we live under the burden
of condemnation.
Application
a) Have I ever lived under the burden of condemnation from myself
or others? Why?
b) How can Romans 8:1-2 help me live in freedom of such condemnation?

The Muslim population of Manitoba, understandably centred in Winnipeg, is very
diverse and represents some 48 different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Conservative estimates put their number at 21000 , with some suggesting
it might be twice that size.
Some outreach among Muslims has started, yet in comparison to the size
of this community, there is the need and opportunity for far more engagement.
Continued influx of new immigrants and refugees continues to see the growth
of this Muslim centre in Manitoba.
We rejoice in the Arabic fellowship meeting there and the energetic workers
among Muslims in Winnipeg.
Let us intercede in unity for:
- new Christian workers among Manitoba's growing Muslim population
- new church ministries focused on prayer, equipping and reaching Muslim
communities around them, as well as training new workers
- the Arabic fellowship and their ministries of discipling new Muslim
background believers and for effectiveness in outreach
- for the recent Somali woman who found faith in Jesus and stood her ground
in the face of opposition to her new faith.

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan and is located
near the border with India. The nation is historically
and culturally related to Iran, Afghanistan, and India.
Since gaining independence in 1947, Pakistan has
struggled to attain political stability and to sustain social
development. The country is estimated to be the home
of 4 million orphaned children and 3.5 million Afghan
refugees. Jesus-followers in Karachi are often severely
persecuted. Since conversations between the Pakistani
government and prominent terrorist groups dissolved in
2021, there has been a sharp increase in attacks targeting
Jesus-followers. The time is now for the Bride of Christ
to stand with the church in Pakistan and pray
for the advancement of the Gospel in every
unreached tribe in Islamabad.
