WHAT IS THE LDAA-EC?
The Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta - Edmonton Chapter (LDAA-EC) is a non-profit voluntary organization that provides support for people with learning disabilities and their families in the Edmonton, Alberta Region. It was registered as a non-profit association in the mid to late sixties and continues to be registered as a charitable organization.
The Edmonton Chapter was founded by a group of concerned parents who supported each other in their pursuit of appropriate and successful school programs for their children. The Association has been supported by parents, teachers, and adults with learning disabilities ever since that time.
Our mission is to advance the education, employment, social development, legal rights, and general well-being of people with learning disabilities.
We are funded through private, corporation, and foundation donations, provincial government grants, membership fees, and fund raising activities. All donations are tax deductible.
Because we are a regional Chapter affiliated with both the Provincial LDAA and the National Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC/TAAC), we work within a network of agencies seeking to advance the education and well-being of LD children and adults throughout Canada.
WHO RUNS THE LDAA-EC?
LDAA-EC is guided by a volunteer board of directors made up of professionals and parents who are involved with and familiar with LD.
We happily welcome all volunteers and new members!
WHAT DOES THE LDAA-EC PROVIDE ITS MEMBERS?
The Edmonton Chapter has run parent workshops, support groups, and advocacy initiatives since its inception. It also owns an extensive library of research journals and literature related to Learning Disabilities. For more information on these resources, please see our Programs & Resources page.
Members of the Edmonton Chapter automatically receive information from both the Provincial LDAA and the National Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC/TAAC). The LDAC/TAAC publishes the "National", a journal addressing issues specific to Learning Disabilities. Edmonton Chapter members also receive the Provincial newsletters in addition to our own Edmonton Chapter newsletter.
