[55] And they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and the suburbs thereof

round about it.

[56] But the fields of the city, and the villages thereof, they gave to

Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

[57] And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of Judah, namely, Hebron,

the city of refuge, and Libnah with her suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa,

with their suburbs,

[58] And Hilen with her suburbs, Debir with her suburbs,

[59] And Ashan with her suburbs, and Beth-shemesh with her suburbs:

[60] And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with her suburbs, and Alemeth

with her suburbs, and Anathoth with her suburbs. All their cities throughout

their families were thirteen cities.

[61] And unto the sons of Kohath, which were left of the family of that

tribe, were cities given out of the half tribe, namely, out of the half

tribe of Manasseh, by lot, ten cities.

[62] And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families out of the tribe

of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of

Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.

[63] Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families,

out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the

tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

[64] And the children of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their

suburbs.

[65] And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out

of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children

of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names.

[66] And the residue of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of

their coasts out of the tribe of Ephraim.

[67] And they gave unto them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in mount

Ephraim with her suburbs; they gave also Gezer with her suburbs,

[68] And Jokmeam with her suburbs, and Beth-horon with her suburbs,

[69] And Aijalon with her suburbs, and Gath-rimmon with her suburbs:

[70] And out of the half tribe of Manasseh; Aner with her suburbs, and

Bileam with her suburbs, for the family of the remnant of the sons of

Kohath.

[71] Unto the sons of Gershom were given out of the family of the half tribe

of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with her suburbs, and Ashtaroth with her

suburbs:

[72] And out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh with her suburbs, Daberath

with her suburbs,

[73] And Ramoth with her suburbs, and Anem with her suburbs:

[74] And out of the tribe of Asher; Mashal with her suburbs, and Abdon with

her suburbs,

[75] And Hukok with her suburbs, and Rehob with her suburbs:

[76] And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh in Galilee with her suburbs,

and Hammon with her suburbs, and Kirjathaim with her suburbs.

[77] Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of

Zebulun. Rimmon with her suburbs, Tabor with her suburbs:

[78] And on the other side Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of Jordan,

were given them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with her

suburbs, and Jahzah with her suburbs,

[79] Kedemoth also with her suburbs, and Mephaath with her suburbs:

[80] And out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs, and

Mahanaim with her suburbs,

[81] And Heshbon with her suburbs, and Jazer with her suburbs.

Christian Humility and Christ's Humility



3 (Ro 12:10; Gal 5:26) Let nothing be done out of strife or conceit, but in

humility let each esteem the other better than himself.

4 (Ro 15:1) Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also

to the interests of others.

5 (Mt 11:29; Ro 15:3) Let this mind be in you all, which was also in Christ

Jesus,

6 (Jn 5:18; 10:33) who, being in the form of God,

did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.

7 (Mt 20:28; Jn 1:14) But He emptied Himself,

taking upon Himself the form of a servant,

and was made in the likeness of men.

8 (Heb 12:2; Mt 26:39; Jn 10:18) And being found in the form of a man,

He humbled Himself

and became obedient to death,

even death on a cross.

obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.



As I visited a patient in the hospital, I was struck by the actions of a young

doctor standing with a team of other inexperienced physicians. The group

listened as a more seasoned doctor explained about the patient's health.

Suddenly, the patient anxiously announced that she needed to use the bathroom

and couldn't get up. In fact, she couldn't wait for a nurse's aide to be

summoned to the room.



Amid the frantic scene, the young doctor got a bed pan off the shelf

and assisted the patient. When the nurse’s aide arrived, she was shocked to

find someone had already assisted the patient. The lead physician proudly

acknowledged the assistance of the young doctor.



Jesus didn't cling to His divinity and refuse to assist humanity. Though He

was "in very nature God, [He] did not consider equality with God something to

be used to his own advantage" (Philippians 2:6). As a human, Christ was able

to become our sin offering and sacrifice Himself for us. He saw our need for

help and salvation, and He humbly laid down His life (v. . Paul wrote,

"He made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant" (v. 7).



We're called to imitate Jesus' attitude and sacrificial ways in our

relationships with others. As He helps us, let's humbly serve them no matter

how lowly the job may seem.

Thank You, Jesus, for humbly giving Yourself for my sin.

Is 41:10



10 (Jos 1:9; Isa 41:13-14) Do not fear, for I am with you;

do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you,

yes, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.



10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God:

I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee;

yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.



Beth had the same recurring nightmare: she was running along a cliff,

then she slipped, and fell headlong, into a bottomless ravine.

Falling, without control, without end, falling, falling, falling...

Beth's dream may be one many of us identify with. The sense

of losing control can be nightmarish, and we may fear falling

without end, without remedy. Financial failure may be the chasm

that we face, or professional disgrace. Personal relationships

may go out of control, and we look into a never-ending

ravine of pain and misunderstanding

But God says, "Don't be afraid; I am holding you up."

Like the father who helps his child learn to swim,

God holds us above the water. We may not feel his hands;

indeed, we may suspect that he lets us go just so we can

do it on our own. But he promises that he doesn't let go.

"I am with you." he declares. "I give you strength

and hold you up."

God's promise never to let go takes on new meaning

in a world where relationships are temporary and life is

uncertain. We do not need to fear, for he is with us.

We can relax and stop striving, for he is our God.

His strength becomes ours; amid all our sin and rebellion,

he undergirds us with his righteousness. We cannot fall,

for he holds us firm.
