Luke 14

The Healing of the Man With Edema



1 (Mk 3:2; Lk 11:37) On the Sabbath they watched Him as He went

into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees to eat bread.

2 There before Him was a man who had edema. (Gk. 2 lepta. A lepton,

meaning "small" or "thin," is a fraction of a penny

and about 1/128 of a denarius, which was a day's wage.

A Jewish bronze or copper coin, it was the smallest coin circulated.)

3 (Mt 12:10­) Jesus said to the lawyers and Pharisees,

"Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"

4 But they remained silent. So He took him and healed him, and let him go.

5 (Lk 13:15) Then He said, "Which of you having a donkey or an ox that

has fallen into a pit will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?"

6 (Lk 20:40) And they could not answer Him regarding these things.



A Lesson to Guests and a Host



7 (Lk 11:43; Mt 23:6) When He marked how they chose the seats of honor,

He told a parable to those who were invited, saying to them,

8 (Pr 25:6-7) "When you are invited by any man to a wedding banquet,

do not sit down in a seat of honor, lest a more honorable man

than you be invited by him;

9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you,

'Give this man the seat,' and then you will begin with shame to take

the lowest seat.

10 (Pr 25:6-7) But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest seat,

so that when he who invited you comes, he may say to you,

'Friend, go up higher.' Then you will have respect in the presence

of those who sit at dinner with you.

11 (Lk 18:14; Pr 29:23) For whoever exalts himself will be humbled,

and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

12 Then He said also to the one who invited Him, "When you prepare a dinner

or a supper, do not call your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen

or your rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return,

and you be repaid.

13 (Lk 14:21; Ne 8:10) But when you prepare a banquet, call the poor,

the maimed, the lame, the blind,

14 (Ac 24:15; Jn 5:29) and you will be blessed, for they cannot repay you.

You shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just."



The Parable of the Great Banquet

Mt 22:1-10



15 (Rev 19:9; Lk 13:29) When one of those who sat at dinner with Him heard

this, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread

in the kingdom of God!"

16 (Mt 22:2-14) Then He said to him, "A man prepared a banquet

and invited many,

17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who had been invited,

'Come, for everything is now prepared.'

18 "But they all with one mind began to make excuses. The first said to him,

'I have bought a piece of land, and I must go and see it.

I ask you to excuse me.'

19 "Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going

to prove them. I ask you to excuse me.'

20 (1Co 7:33) "Still another said, 'I have married a wife,

and therefore I cannot come.'

21 (Lk 14:13) "The servant came and reported this to his master.

Then the master of the house in anger said to his servant,

'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city,

and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.'

22 "The servant said, 'Master, what you commanded has been done,

and yet there is room.'

23 "Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges,

and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

24 (Mt 21:43; Ac 13:46) For I tell you, none of those men who were invited

shall taste my supper.' "



The Cost of Discipleship

Mt 10:37-38



25 Large crowds went with Him. And He turned and said to them,

26 (Mt 10:37; Jn 12:25) "If anyone comes to Me and does not hate

his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes,

and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple.

27 (Mt 10:38; Jn 19:17) And whoever does not bear his cross

and follow Me cannot be My disciple.

28 (Pr 24:27) "For who among you, intending to build a tower,

does not sit down first and count the cost to see whether

he has resources to complete it?

29 Otherwise, perhaps, after he has laid the foundation

and is not able to complete it, all who see it will begin to mock him,

30 saying, 'This man began to build and was not able to complete it.'

31 (Pr 20:18) "Or what king, going to wage war against another king,

does not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able

with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

32 Otherwise, while the other is yet at a distance, he sends a delegation

and requests conditions of peace.

33 (Lk 14:26; Php 3:7-8) So likewise, any of you who does not forsake

all that he has cannot be My disciple.



Tasteless Salt

Mt 5:13; Mk 9:50



34 (Mt 5:13) "Salt is good. But if the salt has lost its saltiness,

how shall it be made salty?

35 (Mt 11:15) It is fit neither for the land nor for the manure pile.

So men throw it out.

"He who has ears to hear, let him hear."



Luke 15



The Parable of the Lost Sheep

Mt 18:12-14



1 Now all the tax collectors and sinners drew near to Him to hear Him.

2 (Mt 9:11; Lk 5:30) But the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying,

"This Man receives sinners and eats with them."

3 So He told them this parable, saying,

4 (Eze 34:11-12; 34:16) "What man among you having a hundred sheep

and losing one of them does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness

and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?

5 And when he has found it, he places it on his shoulders, rejoicing.

6 (1Pe 2:25) Then when he comes home, he calls together his friends

and neighbors, saying to them, 'Rejoice with me,

for I have found my sheep which was lost.'

7 (Lk 5:32) Likewise, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over

one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous men who need

no repentance.



The Parable of the Lost Coin



8 "Or what woman, having ten silver coins

(Gk. drachmas, each worth about a day's wage.)

and losing one, does not light a candle and sweep the house

and search diligently until she finds it?

9 And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors,

saying, 'Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost.'

10 (Heb 1:14) Likewise, I tell you, there is joy in the presence

of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."



The Parable of the Prodigal Son



11 Then He said, "A man had two sons.

12 (Mk 12:44; Lk 15:30) The younger of them said to his father,

'Father, give me the share of the property that falls to me.'

So he divided his estate between them.

13 (Lk 15:30; 16:1) "Not many days later, the younger son gathered

everything together, and journeyed to a distant country, and there

squandered his possessions in prodigal living.

14 When he had spent everything, there came a severe famine in that country,

and he began to be in want.

15 So he went and hired himself to a citizen of that county,

who sent him into his fields to feed swine.

16 He would gladly have filled his stomach with the husks

that the swine were eating, but no one gave him any.

17 "When he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired

servants have an abundance of bread, and here I am perishing with hunger!

18 (Lk 15:21; 18:13) I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him,

"Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.

19 (Lk 7:6-7) I am no longer worthy to be called your son.

Make me like one of your hired servants." '

20 (Ac 20:37; Ge 45:14) So he arose and came to his father.

"But while he was yet far away, his father saw him

and was moved with compassion, and ran and embraced his neck and kissed him.

21 (Ps 51:4; Lk 15:18-19) "The son said to him,

'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.

I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

22 (Ge 41:42; Rev 6:11) "But the father said to his servants,

'Bring out the best robe and put it on him.

And put a ring on his hand and shoes on his feet.

23 Bring here the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and be merry.

24 (Lk 15:32; Eph 2:1) For this son of mine was dead, and is alive again;

he was lost, and is found.' So they began to be merry.

25 "Now his older son was in the field. As he came and drew near the house,

he heard music and dancing.

26 So he called one of the servants and asked what this meant.

27 He said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed

the fattened calf, because he has received him safe and sound.'

28 "He was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out

and entreated him.

29 But he answered his father, 'Look! These many years have I served you.

Nor have I ever transgressed your commands, yet never have you given me

a goat, so that I might be merry with my friends.

30 (Pr 29:3; Lk 15:12-13) But when this son of yours came,

who has devoured your living with harlots,

you killed the fattened calf for him.'

31 "He said to him, 'Son, you are always with me,

and all that I have is yours.

32 (Lk 15:24) But it was fitting to be merry and be glad,

for this brother of yours was dead and is alive again;

he was lost and is found.'"

Genesis 22:1-3,6-12



1 (Heb 11:17; Dt 8:2) After these things God tested Abraham

and said to him, "Abraham!" And he said, "Here I am."

2 (2Ch 3:1; Jn 3:16) Then He said, "Take your son, your only son Isaac,

whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt

offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."

3 So Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey,

and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son;

and he split the wood for the burnt offering,

and arose and went to the place that God had told him.

6 (Jn 19:17) So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering '

and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand

and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.

7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!"

And he said, "Here I am, my son."

Then he said, "Here is the fire and the wood,

but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?"

8 (Jn 1:36; 1:29) Abraham said, "My son, God will provide for Himself the lamb

for a burnt offering." So the two of them went together.

9 (Jas 2:21) Then they came to the place that God had told him. So Abraham

built an altar there and arranged the wood; and he bound Isaac his son and

laid him on the altar, on the wood.

10Then Abraham stretched out his hand

and took the knife to slay his son.

11 (Ge 16:7; 16:9-10) But the angel of the Lord called to him

out of heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham!"

And he said, “Here I am."

12 (1Sa 15:22; Jas 2:21–22) Then He said, "Do not lay your hands

on the boy or do anything to him, because now I know that you fear God,

seeing you have not withheld your only son from Me.”



The first time I took my sons to hike a Colorado Fourteener-a mountain

with an elevation of a least 14,000 feet-they were nervous.

Could they make it? Were they up to the challenge? My youngest stopped

on the trail for extended breaks. "Dad, I can't go any more," he said

repeatedly. But I believed this test would be good for them,

and I wanted them to trust me. A mile from the peak, my son who'd insisted

he could go no further caught his second wind and beat us to the summit.

He was so glad he trusted me, even amid his fears.



I marvel at the trust Isaac had in his father as they climbed their mountain.

Far more, I'm undone by the trust Abraham had in God as he raised his knife

over his son (Genesis 22:10). Even with his confused and wrenching heart,

Abraham obeyed. Mercifully, an angel stopped him.

"Do not lay a hand on the boy," God's messenger declared (v. 12).

God never intended for Isaac to die.



As we draw parallels from this unique story to our own with caution,

it's crucial to note the opening line: “God tested Abraham” (v. 1).

Through his test, Abraham learned how much he trusted God.

He discovered His loving heart and profound provision.



In our confusion, darkness, and testing, we learn truths

about ourselves and about God. And we may even find that

our testing leads to a deeper trust in Him.

Week 6 Showing Grace to Others - Day 2 - The key to the Prison Cell



Matt 6:14-15



14 For if you forgive men for their sins, your heavenly Father will

also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men for their sins,

neither will your Father forgive your sins.



Ann had been badly wounded in a relationship that had ended in anger

and accusation. For more than a year, Ann nursed her bitterness, rallying

support for her attitudes from friends and colleagues. Any time she saw

her former friend, Ann put up an icy wall of hostility. She thought she was

"getting over" the hurt, but the very mention of her friend's name brought

back a flood of negative feelings. Ann was trapped, locked in a prison of

unforgiveness , a jail built block by block by her own unwillingness to

forgive. Ann didn't "get over it"; instead, her wounds festered

and her bitterness grew worse.

Then one day - she never knew how - Ann let go of her bitterness. The barriers

of hostility and anger melted away, and when she saw her firend again, she was

able to forgive. And Ann was finally able to turn to the Lord for her own

healing and forgiveness.

"If you fo not forgive," Jesus says - and the statement falls hard on

unforgiving hearts, "Neither weill you be forgiven." In one sense, God's

forgiveness is unconditional - we do not have to earn or deserve it, and it is

always available to us. But we cannot experience the forgiveness God has

extended to us when we harbour unforgiveness towards others and build walls

of bitterness in our hearts.

When we refuse forgiveness toward those who have hurt or betrayed us, we do

not keep them in bondage, but ourselves. We lock ourselves away for an

awareness of God's loving presence; we imprison ourselves in a cell of

revenge. But when we reach out to forgive, we turn in the lock;

the door is open for our own sins to be forgiven and our own hearts

cleansed and purified.

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.

Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims

cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.



More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic

month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at

the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established

in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.

As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.



The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important

for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were

established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to

monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as

shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,

and from the River to the ends of the earth."

Let us intercede together for:



- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading

outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of PEace.

- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community

in contextual waysto sahre the Gosepl

- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,

giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching

out to Muslims locally.

- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's

Spirit in His churches and poeple , and an awakening an openness

and spiritual hunger in Muslims for realtionship with the Father

through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.

For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.

You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.



Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,

"What does this mean?"

13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."



Peter's Speech at Pentecost



14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice

and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,

let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

15 For these are not drunk, as you suppose,

since it is the third hour of the day.

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 (Isa 44:3; Ac 10:45) 'In the last days it shall be,' says God,

'that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions,

and your old men shall dream dreams.'



- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective

discipleship movements among Muslim people.



- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for

Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.



Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a

hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under

a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the

house."



Ideas for prayer



- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -



Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity



(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

Conclusion:



Pray to the Lord and pray for the lost and the Prodigals

and pray to be repentant .



Pray to the Lord "God, I don't know if what I'm experiencing

is Your testing or not, but either way, I want to trust You.

I give my future to You."



Pray to the Lord and pray to be a forgiving person

and forgive those who have sinned against you.



Pray to the Lord and pray to tes the Lord with your tithes and offerings.



Pray to the Lord and pray to store treasure in Heaven.



Pray for Prince Edward Island and Let us intercede togther for:



- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading

outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.

- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
