1 Peter 5:1-4



Tending the Flock of God



1 (Lk 24:48; Ac 11:30) I exhort the elders who are among you,

as one who is also an elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ

as well as a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 (1Ti 3:8; 3:3) Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, take care

of them, not by constraint, but willingly, not for dishonest gain,

but eagerly.

3 (Eze 34:4; Php 3:17) Do not lord over those in your charge,

but be examples to the flock.

4 (1Co 9:25; Jas 1:12; 1Pe 1:4) And when the chief Shepherd appears,

you will receive a crown of glory that will not fade away.



[1] The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a

witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that

shall be revealed:

[2] Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof,

not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

[3] Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the

flock.

[4] And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of

glory that fadeth not away.



1 Peter 2:11-12



11 (Jas 4:1; Lev 25:23) Dearly beloved, I implore you as aliens and refugees,

abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul.

12 (Mt 5:16; 1Pe 3:16) Live your lives honorably among the Gentiles, so that

though they speak against you as evildoers, they shall see your good works

and thereby glorify God in the day of visitation.



[11] Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from

fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

[12] Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they

speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they

shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Qualifications of Overseers



1 (Ac 20:28; 1Ti 1:15; Ac 1:20) This is a faithful saying: If a man desires

the office of an overseer, he desires a good work.

2 (1Ti 5:9; 2Ti 2:24) An overseer then must be blameless, the husband

of one wife, sober, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach;

3 (Titus 1:7; 1Ti 3:8; Lev 10:9) not given to drunkenness, not violent, not

greedy for money, but patient, not argumentative, not covetous;

4 (1Ti 3:12; Titus 1:6) and one who manages his own house well, having his

children in submission with all reverence.

5 (1Ti 3:15) For if a man does not know how to manage his own house, how will

he take care of the church of God?

6 (1Ti 6:4) He must not be newly converted, so that he does not become

prideful and fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 (2Ti 2:26; 1Ti 6:9) Moreover he must have a good reputation among those who

are outsiders, so that he does not fall into reproach and the snare of the

devil.



[1] This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he

desireth a good work.

[2] A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant,

sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

[3] Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient,

not a brawler, not covetous;

[4] One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection

with all gravity;

[5] (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care

of the church of God?)

[6] Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the

condemnation of the devil.

[7] Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he

fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Titus 1



Salutation



1 (Ro 1:1; 1Ti 6:3) Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ,

according to the faith of God's elect and the knowledge of the truth

which leads to godliness,

2 (2Ti 1:1; 1:9; Titus 2:13) in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot

lie, promised before the world began,

3 (1Ti 1:1; 1:1) 1and has in due time revealed His word through preaching,

with which I was entrusted according to the command of God our Savior,

4 (2Ti 1:2; 2Co 2:13) To Titus, my own son in the common faith:

Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus

Christ our Savior.

Titus' Work in Crete



5 (Ac 14:23; 27:7) For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should

set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city,

as I commanded you:

6 (1Ti 3:2-7; 3:12) any man who is blameless, the husband of one wife,

having faithful children who are not accused of being wild or unruly.

7 (Lk 12:42; 2Pe 2:10) For an overseer must be blameless, as a steward

of God, not self-willed, not easily angered, not given to drunkenness,

not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain,

8 (1Ti 3:2) but hospitable, a lover of what is good, self-controlled,

just, holy, temperate,

9 (1Ti 1:10; 2Th 2:15) holding firmly the trustworthy word that is in

accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort with

sound doctrine and to convince those who oppose it.



[5] For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order

the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had

appointed thee:

[6] If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children

not accused of riot or unruly.

[7] For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled,

not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

[8] But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy,

temperate;

[9] Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be

able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.



Matthew 20:25-26



25 (Lk 22:25-27; Mt 18:3-4) But Jesus called them to Him and said,

"You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,

and those who are great exercise authority over them.

26 (Mk 9:35; 10:43) It shall not be so among you.

Whoever would be great among you, let him serve you, "



[25] But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of

the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise

authority upon them.

[26] But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among

you, let him be your minister;
