Day 159 of My 6th Bible Study Journey Part 3
2) Our Daily Bread for 8 June 2026 titled Reciprocal
Generosity by Kirsten Holmberg
Philippians 4:10-19
Acknowledgment of the Philippians' Gift
10 (2Co 11:9) I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived
your concern for me. Regarding this, you did care, but you lacked opportunity.
11 (Php 3:8; 1Ti 6:6-9) I do not speak because I have need, for I have learned
in whatever state I am to be content.
12 (2Co 11:27; 11:9) I know both how to face humble circumstances and how to
have abundance. Everywhere and in all things I have learned the secret,
both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
13 (2Co 12:9-10; Eph 3:16) I can do all things because of Christ
who strengthens me.
14 (Php 1:7) Nevertheless you did well having shared in my affliction.
15 (Php 1:5; 2Co 11:8-12) Now you Philippians know also,
that in the beginning of the gospel when I departed from Macedonia,
no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving,
except you alone.
16 (1Th 2:9) Even in Thessalonica, you sent aid once and again for
my necessity,
17 (Titus 3:14) not because I desired a gift, but I desire fruit that
accumulates to your account.
18 (Eph 5:2; Php 2:25-26) But I have everything and abound. I have been
filled, having received from Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you,
like a sweet fragrance, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.
19 (Ro 2:4) But my God shall supply your every need according
to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
[10] But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of
me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked
opportunity.
[11] Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever
state I am, therewith to be content.
[12] I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and
in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to
abound and to suffer need.
[13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
[14] Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my
affliction.
[15] Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when
I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning
giving and receiving, but ye only.
[16] For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.
[17] Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your
account.
[18] But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus
the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice
acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
[19] But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory
by Christ Jesus.
When Melanie began having regular headaches, her doctors discovered she had a
benign tumor in her pituitary gland. The tumour was about the size of a plum
and was surgically removed in 2003 and again in 2006 when it recurred. Then in
2017, when it came back a third time, Melanie underwent radiation treatment
instead, which caused her to lose her hair. Her twenty-seven-year-old son,
Matt, decided to grow out his own hair to make a wig for her.
Matt's selfless, loving act illustrates how one person's abilities and
resources can supply the needs of another person or group. Paul highlights the
beauty of such reciprocal generosity in his letter to the Philippians. The
believers in Philippi had shared in his "troubles" and "sent . . . aid more
than once when [he] was in need" (Philippians 4:14, 16). Having received their
gifts, Paul recognised that God had provided amply for his needs.
Our willingness to share with one another is often the conduit of God's
provision in our lives. Sometimes we're in a position to give of our time,
talent, or treasure; other times we're in need ourselves and must rely on the
support of another. Through His Spirit working in us, our gifts are "pleasing
to God" and a manifestation of our shared life in the body of Christ (v. 18).
Reflect & Pray
When has God supplied your needs through another person?
How might He provide for someone else through your generous giving today?
Father God, thank You for providing for me.
Please help me share what You've given me as I
seek to cheerfully and generously help others.

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 2 - Due Season
Gal 6:9
9 And let us not grow weary in doing good,
for in due season we shall reap, if we do not give up.
9 And let us not be weary in well doing:
for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Jackie's preschool class took on an exciting project: they were going to grow
flowers from seeds, Each child took the seed, planted it carefully in the
bedding soil, watered, and waited. But Jackie couldn't wait. Every day
for a week he ran to the window box, looked for his plants, poked, prodded,
unplanted the seeds and then planted them again. "It's no use,"
he pouted after the first week. "Nothing's gonna grow in there."
We live in an instant society - microwave dinners, quick fixes, easy answers.
We are conditioned by our environment to expect - even to demand -
immediate response, and when we have to wait,
we become impatient and irritable.
Paul's exhortation to the Galatians, "Let us not become weary in doing good,"
is as appropriate for twentieth-century believers as it was for the new church
at Galatia. We lose motivation when we don't see results,
and weariness sets in.
If our work does not seem to be producing as we hope, we want to abandon it
and move on to a new project.
But God says, "You will reap a harvest if you don't give up." We give up too
soon in our prayers for a loved one's salvation. We abandon hope too readily
when we don't see spiritual growth in our own lives, when our investment in
another's spiritual maturity seems to have no return. The Lord says,
"The harvest is coming; be patient; trust me."
In due season the harvest comes; when it's the right time. When the seed has
had time to germinate, when the roots are string enough, when the conditions
are right, the reaping time will come. But we must be willing to wait for
the due season, the moment of ripeness, when our labor brings its return.
Application
a) Have I ever felt that my spiritual labours have produced no harvest at all?
b) What does it mean to my own spiritual growth that there is a "due season"
for reaping the harvest?
4) Prosperity verses from Kenneth Copeland
Deut 8:18
18 But you must remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you
the ability to get wealth, so that He may establish His covenant which
He swore to your fathers, as it is today.
18 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee
power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto
thy fathers, as it is this day.
5) From a Book called God's Promises for you:
When you are lonely
PSALMS 25:15-21
15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord,
for He will lead my feet from the net.
16 Turn to me, and be gracious to me,
for I am isolated and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
bring me out of my distresses.
18 Look on my pain and misery,
and forgive all my sins.
19 Consider my enemies, for they are many,
and they hate me with violent hatred.
20 Watch over my life, and deliver me!
Let me not suffer shame,
for I seek refuge in You.
21 Truth and integrity will preserve me
while I wait for You.
15 Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD;
For he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me;
For I am desolate and afflicted.
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged:
O bring thou me out of my distresses.
18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain;
And forgive all my sins.
19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many;
And they hate me with cruel hatred.
20 O keep my soul, and deliver me:
Let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me;
For I wait on thee.
Remember God's promises when You pray
The Lord's prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.
12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
9 After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
