2 Kings 11
Athaliah Reigns in Judah
2Ch 22:10-23:21
1 (2Ki 8:26) Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son
was dead, she rose up and destroyed all the royal descendants.
2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah,
took Joash [An alternate spelling of Jehoash.] the son of Ahaziah,
and stole him away from among the king's sons who were
being murdered; and they hid him and his nurse in the bedroom,
from Athaliah, so that he was not killed.
3 He was with her, hidden in the house of the Lord for six years,
while Athaliah reigned over the land.
2 Kings 11
[1] And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she
arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
[2] But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took
Joash
the son of Ahaziah and stole him from among the king's sons which were
slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from
Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
[3] And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years. And
Athaliah
did reign over the land.
2 Chronicles 22:10-12
Athaliah Seizes the Throne
2Ki 11:1-21
10 So when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead,
she rose up and mounted a campaign to destroy all the royal offspring
of the house of Judah.
11 But Jehoshabeath,Jehosheba in [2Ki 11:2.] the daughter of the king,
took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from the king's sons
who were going to be put to death, and she placed him and his nurse
in a bed chamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram
and wife of Jehoiada the priest (since she was a sister of Ahaziah),
hid Joash from Athaliah. And she did not put the royal child to death.
12 And he was hidden away with them in the house of God for six years.
And Athaliah ruled over the land.
[10] But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she
arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
[11] But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of
Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put
him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king
Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of
Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.
[12] And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah
reigned over the land.
2 Kings 11:4-12
Joash Anointed King of Judah
4 (2Ki 11:9; 11:19) But in the seventh year Jehoiada sent word
and took the captains of hundreds from the Carites and the guards
and brought them to him in the house of the Lord. He made
a covenant with them, put them under oath in the house of the Lord,
and then showed them the king's son.
5 (1Ch 9:25) He commanded them, saying, "This is the thing that you shall do:
One-third of your unit, those who come on duty on the Sabbath, will guard
the king's house.
6 One-third will be at the gate of Sur, and one-third will be at the gate
behind the guards. You will take turns guarding the house.
7 Two of your companies from all who go out on the Sabbath will keep watch
over the house of the Lord for the king.
8 You will encircle the king, each man with his weapons in his hand,
and the one that comes within the ranks must be killed.
They must be with the king when he goes out and comes in."
9 (2Ch 23:8) The captains of hundreds did according to everything
that Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each took his men, those who came on duty
on the Sabbath, with those that went off duty on the Sabbath,
and came to Jehoiada the priest.
10 (2Sa 8:7; 1Ch 18:7) And the priest gave to the captains of hundreds spears
and shields which belonged to King David that were in the house of the Lord.
11 The guards stood, each with his weapons in his hand, from the south side
of the house to the north side of the house,
along the altar and the house, surrounding the king.
12 (Ex 25:16; 1Sa 10:24) Then he brought out the king's son and put the crown
on him and gave him the testimony. They made him king and anointed him.
Then they clapped their hands and said, "Live, O king!"
[4] And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over
hundreds,
with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of
the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the
house of the LORD, and shewed them the king's son.
[5] And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A
third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the
watch of the king's house;
[6] And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the
gate behind the guard: so shall ye keep the watch of the house, that it be
not broken down.
[7] And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall
keep the watch of the house of the LORD about the king.
[8] And ye shall compass the king around about, every man with his weapons
in his hand: and he that cometh within the ranges, let him be slain: and be
ye with the king as he goeth out and as he cometh in.
[9] And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that
Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to
come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and
came to Jehoiada the priest.
[10] And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David's
spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.
[11] And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round
about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of
the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
[12] And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and
gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they
clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
2 Chronicles 23:1-11
2 Chronicles 23
Joash, King of Judah
1 Then in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself
and made a covenant with the commanders over hundreds:
Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Jehohanan,
Azariah the son of Obed, Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat
the son of Zikri.
2 (2Ch 11:13-17) And they went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites
from all the cities of Judah and even the heads of the fathers' houses
in Israel. Then they all came to Jerusalem.
3 (2Sa 7:12; 2Ch 6:16) So the whole assembly made a covenant with the king
in the house of God, and Jehoiada said to them,
"The king's son will reign, as the Lord has said of the sons of David.
4 And this is the thing that you all will do: A third of you all from
the priests and Levites who come on the Sabbath will be gatekeepers,
5 1/3rd will be at the palace of the king and another third
at the Foundation Gate. And all the people will be in the courts of the house
of the Lord.
6 (1Ch 23:28-32) And may no one enter the house of the Lord
except the priests and those Levites who are serving. Those can enter
because they are holy, but all the people will keep their assigned
duty of the Lord.
7 Then the Levites will surround the king, each man with his weapon
in his hand, and whoever enters the house will be put to death.
They will be with the king when he enters and leaves."
8 (2Ki 11:9; 1Ch 24:1-26) The Levites and all Judah did everything
that Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each brought his men,
who were to come on duty on the Sabbath, with those who were
to go off duty on the Sabbath, because Jehoiada the priest did not
dismiss the divisions.
9 Then Jehoiada the priest gave to the commanders of hundreds
the spears and the large and small shields which had been King David's,
which were in the house of God.
10 Then he set all the people around the king,
each man with his weapon in hand, from the south side to the north side
of the temple, from the altar to the temple.
11 (1Sa 10:24; Ex 25:16) Then they brought out the son of the king
and set on him the crown and the testimony and they proclaimed him as king.
So Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said, "Long live the king!"
2 Chronicles 23
[1] And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the
captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of
Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and
Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.
[2] And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the
cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to
Jerusalem.
[3] And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of
God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD
hath said of the sons of David.
[4] This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the
sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;
[5] And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the
gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the
house of the LORD.
[6] But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and
they
that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all
the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.
[7] And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his
weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be
put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth
out.
[8] So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada
the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come
in on
the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the
priest dismissed not the courses.
[9] Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds
spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which
were in
the house of God.
[10] And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand,
from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by
the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
[11] Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown, and
gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons
anointed him, and said, God save the king.
2 Kings 11:13-16
The Death of Athaliah
13 Then Athaliah heard the sound of the guards and the people,
so she came to the people in the house of the Lord.
14 (2Ki 23:3; 2Ch 34:31) Then she looked, and the king was standing
by a pillar according to custom, the captains and the trumpeters by the king,
and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets.
So Athaliah tore her clothes and cried, "Conspiracy, conspiracy!"
15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of hundreds,
those appointed over the forces, "Bring her out of the house to the ranks,
and kill with the sword whoever follows her."
For the priest had said, "Let her not be killed in the house of the Lord."
16 (Ge 9:6) So they laid hands on her, and she came through
the horses' entrance into the king's house. Then she was put to death there.
[13] And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she
came to the people into the temple of the LORD.
[14] And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner
was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of
the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes,
and cried, Treason, Treason.
[15] But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the
officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the
ranges:
and him that followeth her kill with the sword. For the priest had said,
Let
her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
[16] And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the
horses came into the king's house: and there was she slain.
2 Chronicles 23:12-15
The Death of Athaliah
12 And when Athaliah heard the sound of the people running
and praising the king, she went toward the people in the temple of the Lord.
13 And she saw the king standing by the pillar at the entrance
with the officials and trumpeters next to the king, and all of the people
of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and singers
with their instruments with songs were offering up praise.
Then Athaliah tore her garments and yelled, "Treachery! Treachery!"
14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the commanders over hundreds,
those entrusted over the army, and said to them,
"Bring her out between the ranks, and let whoever follows her be killed
with the sword." For the priest said, "Do not put her to death
in the house of the Lord."
15 (Ne 3:28; 2Ch 22:10) So they seized her, and she went to the entrance
of the Horse Gate of the king's palace, and they put her to death there.
[12] Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising
the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD:
[13] And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the
entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the
people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers
with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then
Athaliah
rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
[14] Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that
were
set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and
whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said,
Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
[15] So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of
the
horse gate by the king's house, they slew her there.
2 Kings 11:17-21
17 (2Sa 5:3; Jos 24:25) Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king
and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and also between
the king and the people.
18 (Dt 12:3; 1Ki 18:40) Then all the people of the land
entered the house of Baal and broke down its altars. His images they
thoroughly broke in pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Baal
before the altars. The priest put appointees over the house ofthe Lord.
19 He took the captains of hundreds, the Carites, the guards,
and all the people of the land. Then they brought down the king
from the house of the Lord and marched through the gate of the guards
to the king's house. Then he sat on the throne of the kings.
20 (Pr 11:10; 29:2 ) All the people of the land rejoiced, and the city
was quiet. They had killed Athaliah with the sword at the king's house.
21 (2Ch 24:1-14) Jehoash [An alternate spelling of Joash. ]
was seven years old when he became king.
[17] And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the
people that they should be the LORD's people; between the king also and the
people.
[18] And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake
it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and
slew
Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed
officers over the house of the LORD.
[19] And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard,
and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the
house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the
king's house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
[20] And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet:
and
they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.
[21] Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
2 Chronicles 23:16-21
16 (2Ki 11:17; 2Ch 29:10) And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself,
the people, and the king that they would be a people dedicated to the Lord.
17 (1Ki 18:40) Then all the people went to the temple of Baal,
and they tore it down along with its altars, and they shattered its images.
And Mattan the priest of Baal, they killed before the altars.
18 (2Ch 5:5) Then Jehoiada placed guards at the house of the Lord,
under the supervision of the priests, the Levites whom David allotted
for the house of the Lord to make burnt offerings to the Lord as is written
in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and music,
according to the direction of David.
19 And he set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord
so that no one might enter who was in any manner unclean.
20 (2Ki 11:19) Then he took the commanders over hundreds, the nobles,
those in authority over the people, and all the people of the land,
and they brought down the king from the house of the Lord.
And they went through the Upper Gate of the palace of the king,
and they brought the king to sit on the royal throne.
21 (2Ki 11:20) And all the people of the land rejoiced. And the city
had peace when they put Athaliah to death with the sword.
[16] And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people,
and between the king, that they should be the LORD's people.
[17] Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and
brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of
Baal before the altars.
[18] Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the
hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of
the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the
law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
[19] And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that
none
which was unclean in any thing should enter in.
[20] And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the
governors
of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king
from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the
king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.
[21] And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after
that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.
2 Kings 12:1-16
2 Kings 12
Jehoash Repairs the Temple
2 Ch 24:1-27
1 In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash became king. He reigned forty years
in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
2 Jehoash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all his days
because Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
3 (2Ki 14:4; 1Ki 15:14) However, the high places were not taken away.
The people still sacrificed and made offerings in the high places.
4 (2Ki 22:4; Ex 35:5; 35:29) Now Jehoash said to the priests,
"All the consecrated money that is brought into the house of the Lord,
the money for which each man is currently assessed,
and all the money that is brought voluntarily to the house of the Lord,
5 let the priests receive it, each from his donor, and repair the damages
to the house wherever damages are found.""
6 But in the 23rd year of King Jehoash the priests had not repaired
the damages to the house.
2 Kings 12
[1] In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years
reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
[2] And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his
days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
[3] But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed
and
burnt incense in the high places.
[4] And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things
that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one
that
passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money
that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
[5] Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let
them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be
found.
[6] But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the
priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
2 Chronicles 24:1-22
2 Chronicles 24
Joash Repairs the Temple
2 Ki 12:1-21
1 Now Joash [Or Abi in 2Ki 18:2.] was seven years old when he started
his reign, and he was king in Jerusalem for forty years.
The name of his mother was Zibiah of Beersheba.
2 (2Ch 25:2; 26:4-5) Joash did what was correct in the eyes of the Lord
all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
3 And Jehoiada gave Joash two wives, and he had sons and daughters.
4 And it happened after this that it was in the heart of Joash to restore
the house of the Lord.
5 So he assembled the priests and Levites to speak with them, "Go out
to the cities of Judah and collect money from all Israel to fortify
the house of your God, what is necessary each year.
Now hurry with this matter." But the Levites delayed.
6 (Ex 30:12-16; Nu 1:50) So the king called Jehoiada, who was head over this,
and said to him, "Why have you not required from the Levites that they bring
in from Judah and Jerusalem the tax levied by Moses, the servant of the Lord,
for the congregation of Israel for the tent of the testimony?"
7 (2Ch 21:17) For the sons of Athaliah, the wicked woman, had broken
into the house of God and even used all the holy items of the house
of the Lord for Baal worship.
8 Then the king spoke, and they made a chest, and put it outside the gate
of the house of the Lord.
9 (2Ch 24:6) And they gave a report in Judah and Jerusalem to bring
in to the Lord a tax levied by Moses the servant of God
on Israel in the wilderness.
10 (1Ch 29:9) So all the officials and people rejoiced,
and they brought in the money and cast it into the chest until it was full.
11 And it happened that at the time the Levites brought the chest
to the guards of the king that there was a large amount of money.
So the king's scribe and head priest's commissioner would bring it
and empty the chest and then take it and return it to its place.
They continued to do this every day and collected a great amount of money.
12 So the king and Jehoiada gave it to those doing a work of labor
on the house of the Lord. And they hired masons and craftsmen to repair
the house of the Lord, and even metal workers in iron and bronze
to fortify the house of the Lord.
13 So the workmen worked, and the work was completed by them.
They restored the house of God to its specifications and strengthened it.
14 When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king
and Jehoiada, who made vessels for the house of the Lord, vessels for serving
and for making burnt offerings, spoons and vessels of gold and silver.
They continually offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord
all the days of Jehoiada.
15 Then Jehoiada became old and full of days and died. He was 130 years old
when he died.
16 So they buried him in the City of David with the kings,
because he had done good in Israel, both toward God and His house.
The Wickedness of Joash
17 After the death of Jehoiada the officials of Judah came and paid homage
to the king. At that time the king listened to them.
18 (Jos 22:20; 2Ch 19:2) Then they abandoned the house of the Lord
and God of their fathers, and they served the Asherah poles and idols.
And divine wrath was on Judah and Jerusalem because of this guilt.
19 And God sent prophets to return them to the Lord.
These warned the people, but they would not listen.
20 (Nu 14:41; 2Ch 20:14) Then the Spirit of God clothed Zechariah
the son of Jehoiada the priest, and he stood above the people saying,
"Thus says God: Why are you transgressing the commandments of the Lord
so that you all will not be successful? Because you all have abandoned
the Lord, He has abandoned you."
21 (Ne 9:26; Ac 7:58-59) But they plotted against him, and at the command
of the king they all stoned him in the court of the house of the Lord.
22 (Ge 9:5) And Joash the king did not remember the kindness
that Jehoiada the father of Zechariah had shown him, but killed his son.
As he was dying, he said, "May the Lord see and avenge!"
2 Chronicles 24
[1] Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty
years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beer-sheba.
[2] And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the
days
of Jehoiada the priest.
[3] And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
[4] And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the
house of the LORD.
[5] And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them,
Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair
the house of your God from year to year, and see that ye hasten the matter.
Howbeit the Levites hastened it not.
[6] And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why hast
thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of
Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant
of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of
witness?
[7] For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of
God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they
bestow upon Baalim.
[8] And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at
the gate of the house of the LORD.
[9] And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring
in to
the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in
the wilderness.
[10] And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and
cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
[11] Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the
king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was
much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and
emptied
the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did
day
by day, and gathered money in abundance.
[12] And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the
service of the house of the LORD, and hired masons and carpenters to repair
the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the
house of the LORD.
[13] So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they
set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.
[14] And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money
before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of
the
LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer withal, and spoons, and
vessels
of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the
LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
[15] But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred
and thirty years old was he when he died.
[16] And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he
had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
[17] Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made
obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
[18] And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served
groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their
trespass.
[19] Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and
they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
[20] And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the
priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus saith God,
Why transgress ye the commandments of the LORD, that ye cannot prosper?
because ye have forsaken the LORD, he hath also forsaken you.
[21] And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the
commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
[22] Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his
father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The
LORD look upon it, and require it.
2 Kings 10:32-36
The Death of Jehu
32 (1Ki 19:17; 2Ki 8:12) In those days the Lord began to trim off parts
of Israel, and Hazael struck them in all the territory of Israel:
33 (Am 1:3-4; Dt 2:36) from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead,
the Gadites, the Reubenites, the Manassites from Aroer,
which is by the River Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
34 Now the rest of the deeds of Jehu, all he did and all his power,
are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?
35 So Jehu slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria.
Jehoahaz his son became king in his place.
36 The days that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria were 28 years.
[32] In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote
them in all the coasts of Israel;
[33] From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the
Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon,
even Gilead and Bashan.
[34] Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his
might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of
Israel?
[35] And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And
Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.
[36] And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and
eight years.

Entitled New DNA in Jesus
Ephesians 4:17-24
The Old Life and New Life
17 (Ro 1:21; Eph 2:1-3) Therefore this I say and testify in the Lord,
that from now on you walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity
of their minds,
18 (Eph 2:12; Gal 4:8) having their understanding darkened, excluded
from the life of God through the ignorance that is within them,
due to the hardness of their hearts.
19 (1Ti 4:2) Being calloused they have given themselves over to sensuality
for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.
20 But you did not learn about Christ in this manner,
21 (Eph 1:13) if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him,
as the truth is in Jesus:
22 (Ro 6:6; Heb 3:13) that you put off the former way of life in the old
nature, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
23 (Ro 12:2; Col 3:10) and be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 (Ro 6:4; Eph 2:10) and that you put on the new nature,
which was created according to God in righteousness and true holiness.
[17] This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk
not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
[18] Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God
through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their
heart:
[19] Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness,
to work all uncleanness with greediness.
[20] But ye have not so learned Christ;
[21] If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the
truth is in Jesus:
[22] That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which
is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
[23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
[24] And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in
righteousness and true holiness.
Chris had his blood retested four years after his lifesaving bone marrow
transplant. The donor’s marrow had provided what was needed to cure him but
had left a surprise: the DNA in Chris' blood was that of his donor, not his
own. It makes sense, really: the goal of the procedure was to replace the
weakened blood with a donor's healthy blood. Yet even swabs of Chris' cheeks,
lips, and tongue showed the donor's DNA. In some ways, he'd become someone
else-though he retained his own memories, outward appearance, and some of
his original DNA.
Chris' experience bears a striking resemblance to what happens in the life
of a person who receives salvation in Jesus. At the point of our spiritual
transformation-when we trust in Jesus-we become a new creation (2 Corinthians
5:17). Paul's letter to the church in Ephesus encouraged them to reveal that
inward transformation, to "put off [their] old self" with its way of living
and to "put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and
holiness" (Ephesians 4:22, 24). To be set apart for Christ.
We don’t need DNA swabs or blood tests to show that the transforming power of
Jesus is alive within us. That inward reality should be evident in the way we
engage with the world around us, revealing how we're "kind and compassionate
to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave [us]"
(v. 32).

Reflect & Pray
How has Jesus changed you inwardly? How does that inward reality show
in the way you engage with those around you?
Jesus, thank You for making me new and giving me a new life in You.

Week 7 Promises of Grace - Day 5 The Way Out
1 Cor 10:13
13 (1Co 1:9; 2Pe 2:9) No temptation has taken
you except what is common to man. God is faithful,
and He will not permit you to be tempted above
what you can endure, but will with the temptation
also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common
to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be
tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation
also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Becky had experienced some hard knocks in the past few weeks; the stress
was beginning to show, and she wasn't sure she should handle anything else.
"Why me?" Becky wept, covering her face. "I just can't stand it any more!
I can't pay my bills; I just lost my job, and now my car broke down
on the highway. How much more of this can I take?"
Some people seem to have more than their share of trouble and temptation.
Within six months, one family faced financial trouble, cancer, quadruple
bypass surgery, and leukemia; their trials brought them face to face with
anger, bitterness, and despair as well. Other people seem to go through
life with relatively minor stresses and few real temptations to sin.
But whether our problems are great or small, they are part of the common
thread that ties humanity together. All of us face temptation; it is ,
Paul says, "Common to man." But Paul assures us that
"God ... will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear."
Often what we can bear is more that what we think we can bear. God will use
the troubled times in our lives for our maturity in him, but he promises
as well that he will not let temptation break us. He will provide "a way out,"
"a way of escape".
Sometimes the "way out" is true escape, being removed from what caused the
trouble. At other times, rather than being removed from it, we must
withstand the stress, face the temptation, enure the pain. Whether we escape
or endure, God is faithful to provide what we need; we can trust him
not to give us more than we can bear.
Application
a) Have I ever faced more stress or temptation than I thought I could bear?
b) Under what circumstances has God provided an "escape" for me?
When have I had to walk "through" my difficulties?
c) How can today's verse encourage me when times are tough?
4) From Prosperity Promises - Kenneth Copeland
Eph 4:28
28 (Ex 20:15; 1Th 4:11-12) Let him who steals steal no more.
Instead, let him labour, working with his hands things which
are good, that he may have something to share with him who is in need.
28 Let him that stole steal no more:
but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which
is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

God's Guiding Presence
Ps 139:1-12
PSALMS 139
For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.
1 O Lord, You have searched me
and known me.
2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) You know when I sit down and when I get up;
You understand my thought from far off.
3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) You search my path and my lying down
and are aware of all my ways.
4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) For there is not a word on my tongue,
but behold, O Lord, You know it fully.
5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) You put Yourself behind and before me,
and keep Your hand on me.
6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is lofty, and I cannot fathom it.
7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) Where shall I go from Your spirit,
or where shall I flee from Your presence?
8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.
9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell at the end of the sea,
10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) even there Your hand shall guide me,
and Your right hand shall take hold of me.
11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light shall be as night about me,"
12 even the darkness is not dark to You,
but the night shines as the day,
for the darkness is like light to You.
Psalm 139
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,
thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down,
And art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue,
But, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before,
And laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit?
Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:
If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me,
And thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me;
Even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; But the night shineth
as the day:
The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

The Lord's prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.
12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
9 After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
6) This come from Praying for Muslims in Canada 2015 (Is there a 2022 edition?)
Quebec
Quick facts on Muslims in Quebec
Quebec 2015 population 8214 000
est Muslim Population 418946
CNMM Networks: Montreal
There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering
of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority
of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim
population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone
African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.
And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more
Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.
This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches
and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small
by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that
is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now
this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly
or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br
easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,
yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.
Agree in prayer for :
- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel
- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding
-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting
together for worship!
- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for
reaching Muslims in Quebec.

30 days of prayer for the Muslim World 24 April to 23 May 2020
Under the Keep Praying page
When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 Even on My menservants and maidservants
I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,
and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.
21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]
Footnotes
Acts 2:21 Joel 2:28-32.
- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
And
Thank you for praying through the
5 Days of Prayer for Sikhs.
"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,
I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to
cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.
Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians
and heard the message of the Gospel, I experienced the
love of Jesus Christ, and it was like nothing I'd known before.
One night I had a dream where I saw Him - a figure surrounded by
light who I knew was Jesus, the light of the world.
As I began to understand the gospel message, I encountered a reassuring and
confident solution to the problem of sin. I knew that I needed a solution
to my sin problem, and I gave my life to Christ.
Slowly, God began to heal my broken heart and my addiction.
Nine years have passed, and I am a devoted husband and a father
to two beautiful boys. I grow deeper in love with Jesus each day.
I ask you to continue praying with me, and others around the world, for Sikhs.
God is the only one who can draw people to Himself. He works in and through
the prayers of His people. I want Sikhs to know the freedom
and healing that is only available through Jesus Christ."
13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy

ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Rom 3:19-20
19 Now we know that whatever the law says,
it says to those who are under the law,
so that every mouth may be silenced,
and all the world may become accountable to God.
20 Therefore by the works of the law
no flesh will be justified in His sight,
for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are
under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become
guilty before God.
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified
in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive his recompense in the body,
according to what he has done,
whether it was good or bad.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one
may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done,
whether it be good or bad.

[5] And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that ye shall do; A
third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the
watch of the king's house;
[4] This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the
sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;
[32] In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael smote
them in all the coasts of Israel;

22 (Ro 6:6; Heb 3:13) that you put off the former way of life in the old
nature, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
23 (Ro 12:2; Col 3:10) and be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
[20] But ye have not so learned Christ;
[21] If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the
truth is in Jesus:
[22] That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which
is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
[23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
That inward reality should be evident in the way we
engage with the world around us, revealing how we're "kind and compassionate
to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave [us]"
(v. 32).

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) You know when I sit down and when I get up;
You understand my thought from far off.
6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is lofty, and I cannot fathom it.
7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) Where shall I go from Your spirit,
or where shall I flee from Your presence?
8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit?
Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:
If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me,
And thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me;
Even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; But the night shineth
as the day:
The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

The Lord's prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
9 "Therefore pray in this manner:
Our Father who is in heaven,
hallowed be Your name.
10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;
Your will be done
on earth, as it is in heaven.
Amen.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,
"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.
13 (Ro 14:17; 12:12) Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy
and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope,
through the power of the Holy Spirit.
[13] Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that
ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

16th Day of the Month
a) Pray that God will convict the hearts of Canadians of the false
idea that all moral choices are equal and without consequences
( John 16:7-8
7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away.
For if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send Him to you.
8 When He comes, He will convict the world of sin
and of righteousness and of judgment"
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away:
for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you;
but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin,
and of righteousness, and of judgment:

b) Pray that people's hearts would be opened to see the folly
of denying God's supremacy
(
John 14:6
6 Jesus said to him,
"I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me."
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
2 Cor 5:10
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,
that each one may receive his recompense in the body,
according to what he has done,
whether it was good or bad.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one
may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done,
whether it be good or bad.
2 Cor 10:5
5 casting down imaginations and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought into
captivity to the obedience of Christ,
5 casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against
the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought
to the obedience of Christ;
