Matthew 28
The Resurrection
Mk 16:1-8; Lk 24:1-12; Jn 20:1-10
1 (Mt 27:56; 27:61) At the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn
on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene
and the other Mary went to see the tomb.
2 And then there was a great earthquake. For the angel of the Lord
descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone from the door
and sat on it.
3 (Mk 9:3; Ac 1:10) His countenance was like lightning, and his garments
white as snow.
4 (Rev 1:17) The soldiers shook for fear of him and became like dead men.
5 (Heb 1:14) The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid.
For I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified.

The Report of the Guard
11 (Mt 27:65-66) While they were going, indeed, some of the soldiers
went into the city and described to the chief priests everything
that had happened.
12 When the chief priests were assembled with the elders
and had taken counsel, they gave much money to the soldiers,
13 saying, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night
and stole Him away while we were sleeping.'
14 (Mt 27:2) If this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him
and keep you secure."
15 (Mt 27:8) So they took the money and did as they were instructed.
And this saying has been commonly reported among the Jews to this day.
The Commissioning of the Disciples

The Commissioning of the Disciples

as they sat at supper, and He reprimanded them for their unbelief

and preach the gospel to every creature.

will be saved. But he who does not believe will be condemned.

In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

any deadly thing, it will not hurt them;
they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."
The Ascension

19 (1Pe 3:22; Heb 1:3; 12:2) After the Lord had spoken to them,
He was received up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God.
20 (Ac 5:12; Heb 2:4) Then they went forth and preached everywhere,
the Lord working with them and confirming the word through

of the earth?
Declare, if you have understanding.
5 (Isa 40:12) Who has determined its measurements, if you know?
Or who has stretched the line upon it?
6 (Job 26:7) To what are its foundations fastened?
Or who laid its cornerstone
7 (Job 1:6; 2:1) when the morning stars sang together,
and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 (Ge 1:9; Jer 5:22) "Or who shut up the sea with doors
when it broke forth and went out of the womb?
9 When I made the cloud its garment,
and thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 (Ps 104:9; Job 26:10) and broke up for it My decreed place,

and the high arm will be broken.

Or have you walked in search of the depths?
17 (Ps 9:13; Job 3:5) Have the gates of death been opened to you?
Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?
18 Have you perceived the breadth of the earth?
Declare, if you know it all.
What began as a simple spring nature walk turned into something special
as my wife and I trekked along our hometown's Grand River. We noticed
some familiar "friends" on a log in the rippling water-five or six
large turtles basking in the sun. Sue and I smiled at the amazing sight
of these reptiles, which we hadn't seen for many months. We were
delighted that they were back, and we celebrated a moment of joy
in God's magnificent creation.
God took Job on quite a nature walk (see Job 38). The troubled man
needed an answer from his Creator about his situation (v. 1).
And what he saw on his journey with God through His creation
provided the encouragement he needed.
Imagine Job's amazement as God reminded him of His grand design
of the world. Job got a firsthand explanation of the natural world:
"Who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels shouted for joy?" (vv. 6-7). He got a geography
lesson regarding God's imposed limitations of the seas (v. 11).
The Creator continued to inform Job about the light He created,
snow He produces, and rain He provides to make things grow (vv. 19-28).
Job even heard about the constellations
from the One who flung them into space (vv. 31–32).
Finally, Job responded, "I know that you can do all things" (42:2).
As we experience the natural world, may we stand in awe of our wise
and wonderful Creator.

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 6 - Through The Fire
Is 43:2
2 (Ps 66:12; Da 3:25–27) When you pass through waters,
I will be with you.And through the rivers,they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
nor shall the flame kindle on you.
In the Book of Daniel, 3 young men provide one of the world's best-known
Bible stories. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, three of the finest young
men of Israel, were taken into capitivity to Babylon. There King
Nebuchadnezzar, filled with his own importance, commanded that
everyone bow down and worship his image.
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship anyone
except the One True god, they were cast into Nebuchadnezzar's
furnace of fire.
Is 43:2 brings their experience into focus for us. There the Lord says,
"When you pass through the fire ... when you walk through the water ..."
Not if, but when. If we are committed to serving and honouring the Lord,
at some point we will be faced with "passing through the fire" for hm.
We may not face a physical furnace, but we may face the fires of
persecution, anger, hostility or suffering. And God says:
"I will be with you."
When the three young Israelites stepped into the king's furnace, all
the people looked and saw, not three, but four men in the fire, their
bonds burned away, walking freely among the flames. They did not
escape the fate decreed for them. But the Lord was with them in
the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the flood
and the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the
flood and fire tht life brings to us. The promise of god remains:
"I will be with you; the waters will not overflow, nor will the
flames burn you."

As of Autumn 2014, St. John's does not have a local CNMM network. Pray with us
for God's people to come together in prayer and cooperative efforts to reach Muslims with the Good News.
St. John's has one mosque and 2 more musallas , or prayer locations, which
may grow into mosques of their own. The mosque is called Masjid an Noor,
The Mosque of the Light, and mosque historical documents record a trip in 1986
to Saudi Arabia to raise funds for the land purchase and construction costs.
A small number of Muslim families had come prior to 1964, but moved on to
other places after a short time. After this date, a small community began
to remain and grow , reaching about 25 families in the 1980s. A number
of international students also join the community annually
ranging from 25 to 60.
In 2014 the mosque website reports the community is made up of some 200
families and many university students attending Memorial University. A
small number of native Newfoundlanders have also converted to the Islamic
faith, one saying of this religion in Newfoundland, "Islam is a growing face".
With the growth of the community, the current challenge is lack of space
in the mosque, which they are now looking at expanding.
Pray for
- The true Light of life, Jesus Christ, to be revealed to Muslims
in Newfoundland through the word, dreams, visions and answers to prayer.
- Christians to be as "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" regarding
Islam and reaching out in loving witness to Muslims in St. John's.
- for a dedicated, intentional witness to the growing number of Muslim
students on the university, college and trade school campuses.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .

Pray to the Lord and thank Him that He will be with you in troubling times
and good times.

What began as a simple spring nature walk turned into something special
as my wife and I trekked along our hometown's Grand River. We noticed
some familiar "friends" on a log in the rippling water-five or six
large turtles basking in the sun. Sue and I smiled at the amazing sight
of these reptiles, which we hadn't seen for many months. We were
delighted that they were back, and we celebrated a moment of joy
in God's magnificent creation.
God took Job on quite a nature walk (see Job 38). The troubled man
needed an answer from his Creator about his situation (v. 1).
And what he saw on his journey with God through His creation
provided the encouragement he needed.
Imagine Job's amazement as God reminded him of His grand design
of the world. Job got a firsthand explanation of the natural world:
"Who laid its cornerstone—while the morning stars sang together
and all the angels shouted for joy?" (vv. 6-7). He got a geography
lesson regarding God's imposed limitations of the seas (v. 11).
The Creator continued to inform Job about the light He created,
snow He produces, and rain He provides to make things grow (vv. 19-28).
Job even heard about the constellations
from the One who flung them into space (vv. 31–32).
Finally, Job responded, "I know that you can do all things" (42:2).
As we experience the natural world, may we stand in awe of our wise
and wonderful Creator.

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 6 - Through The Fire
Is 43:2
2 (Ps 66:12; Da 3:25–27) When you pass through waters,
I will be with you.And through the rivers,they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
nor shall the flame kindle on you.
In the Book of Daniel, 3 young men provide one of the world's best-known
Bible stories. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, three of the finest young
men of Israel, were taken into capitivity to Babylon. There King
Nebuchadnezzar, filled with his own importance, commanded that
everyone bow down and worship his image.
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship anyone
except the One True god, they were cast into Nebuchadnezzar's
furnace of fire.
Is 43:2 brings their experience into focus for us. There the Lord says,
"When you pass through the fire ... when you walk through the water ..."
Not if, but when. If we are committed to serving and honouring the Lord,
at some point we will be faced with "passing through the fire" for hm.
We may not face a physical furnace, but we may face the fires of
persecution, anger, hostility or suffering. And God says:
"I will be with you."
When the three young Israelites stepped into the king's furnace, all
the people looked and saw, not three, but four men in the fire, their
bonds burned away, walking freely among the flames. They did not
escape the fate decreed for them. But the Lord was with them in
the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the flood
and the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the
flood and fire tht life brings to us. The promise of god remains:
"I will be with you; the waters will not overflow, nor will the
flames burn you."

As of Autumn 2014, St. John's does not have a local CNMM network. Pray with us
for God's people to come together in prayer and cooperative efforts to reach Muslims with the Good News.
St. John's has one mosque and 2 more musallas , or prayer locations, which
may grow into mosques of their own. The mosque is called Masjid an Noor,
The Mosque of the Light, and mosque historical documents record a trip in 1986
to Saudi Arabia to raise funds for the land purchase and construction costs.
A small number of Muslim families had come prior to 1964, but moved on to
other places after a short time. After this date, a small community began
to remain and grow , reaching about 25 families in the 1980s. A number
of international students also join the community annually
ranging from 25 to 60.
In 2014 the mosque website reports the community is made up of some 200
families and many university students attending Memorial University. A
small number of native Newfoundlanders have also converted to the Islamic
faith, one saying of this religion in Newfoundland, "Islam is a growing face".
With the growth of the community, the current challenge is lack of space
in the mosque, which they are now looking at expanding.
Pray for
- The true Light of life, Jesus Christ, to be revealed to Muslims
in Newfoundland through the word, dreams, visions and answers to prayer.
- Christians to be as "wise as serpents and harmless as doves" regarding
Islam and reaching out in loving witness to Muslims in St. John's.
- for a dedicated, intentional witness to the growing number of Muslim
students on the university, college and trade school campuses.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."

- Pray for Christian workers an organisations focused on seeing effective
discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...) .
