PSALMS 31



Ps 71:1-3



For the Music Director. A Psalm of David.



1 In You, O Lord, do I seek refuge;

may I never be ashamed;

deliver me in Your righteousness.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2 ) Incline Your ear to me;

deliver me speedily;

be my strong rock,

a strong fortress to save me.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) For You are my rock and my fortress;

for Your name's sake lead me and guide me.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) Lead me out of the net that they have hidden for me,

for You are my strength.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) Into Your hand I commit my spirit;

You have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) I have hated those who regard worthless vanity,

but I trust in the Lord.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) I will be glad and rejoice in Your lovingkindness,

for You have seen my trouble;

You have known my soul in adversities,

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) and have not delivered me up into the hand of the enemy;

You have set my feet in a broad place.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am in trouble;

my eye wastes away with grief,

yes, my soul and my body.

10 (Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17) For my life is spent with grief,

and my years with sighing;

my strength fails because of my iniquity,

and my bones waste away.

11 (Ps 42:5; 43:5) I became a reproach among all my enemies,

but especially among my neighbors,

and a dread to my acquaintances;

those who saw me outside fled fromme.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind;

I am like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the slander of many;

fear was on every side;

while they took counsel together againstme,

they planned to take away my life.

14 But I trusted in You, O Lord;

I said, "You are my God."

15 My times are in Your hand;

deliver me from the hand of my enemies

and my pursuers.

16 Make Your face to shine on Your servant;

save me by Your lovingkindness.

17 Do not let me be ashamed, O Lord,

for I have called on You;

let the wicked be ashamed,

and let them be silent in the grave.

18 Let the lying lips be put to silence,

who speak arrogantly

in pride and contempt against the righteous.

19 Oh, how great is Your goodness,

which You have laid up for those who fear You,

which You have done for those

seeking refuge in You before people!

20 You will hide them in the secret of Your presence

from conspirators;

You will keep them secretly in a shelter

from the strife of tongues.

21 Blessed be the Lord,

for He has shown me His marvelous lovingkindness

in a fortified city.

22 For I said in my haste,

"I am cut off from before Your eyes."

Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications

when I cried to You.

23 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints,

for the Lord preserves the faithful,

but amply repays the one who acts in pride.

24 Be strong, and He will strengthen your heart,

all you who wait for the Lord.

[1] In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me

in thy righteousness.

[2] Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock,

for an house of defence to save me.

[3] For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead

me, and guide me.

[4] Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art

my strength.

[5] Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of

truth.

[6] I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD.

[7] I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my

trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;

[8] And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my

feet in a large room.

[9] Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed

with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

[10] For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength

faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

fled from me.

[18] Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things

proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

[19] Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that

fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the

sons of men!

[20] Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of

man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

[21] Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a

strong city.

[22] For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes:

nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto

thee.

[23] O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the

faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

[24] Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that

hope in the LORD.

Leviticus 26:3-12



3 (Dt 28:1-14; 11:13-15) If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments

and do them,

4 (Ps 67:6; 85:12) then I will give you rain in due season,

and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield

their fruit.

5 (Am 9:13; Lev 25:18-19) Your threshing shall last till the grape harvest,

and the grape harvest shall last till the time for sowing, and you shall eat

your bread till you are full and dwell in your land safely.

6 (Isa 35:9; Jer 30:10) I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down

for sleep, and none shall make you afraid; I will remove harmful beasts from

the land, and the sword shall not go through your land.

7 You shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

8 (Dt 32:30; Jos 23:10) Five of you shall chase a hundred,

and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight,

and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

9 (Ge 17:6-7; Ne 9:23) I will turn toward you and make you fruitful

and multiply you, and I will confirm My covenant with you.

10 (Lev 25:22) You shall eat the old harvest long stored,

and clear out the old to make way for the new.

11 (Ex 25:8; 29:45) I will set My tabernacle among you,

and I shall not abhor you.

the sword go through your land.

[7] And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the

sword.

[8] And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put

ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

[9] For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply

you, and establish my covenant with you.

[10] And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

[11] And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor

you.

[12] And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my

people.



Alan is a fifth-generation fruit farmer who manages his family's cherry,

peach, and apple orchard. Over the years, his family has perfected growing

trees with maximum yield. They've carefully planted saplings for the future,

put up a deer fence, and invested in special fans that help keep the air warm

when frost threatens their crops. Even so, they're never assured of a good

harvest. Factors like weather, pollinators, and disease are beyond their

control.



Yet all of nature is under God's control. He knows we need physical provision

like healthy crops, but He encourages us to look even higher to the ultimate

good - Himself. The book of Leviticus contains decrees that God gave the

Israelites governing everything from sacrifice and worship to relationships

and criminal justice. Obeying His direction would lead to blessing, including

provision of a bountiful harvest (26:3-4), but disobedience would result in a

curse, where their enemies would enjoy the fruit of their laboUr (v. 16). More

than just plentiful crops (v. 10), God's blessing included a promise to dwell

with His people (v. 11) and look on them "with favoUr" (v. 9).



The Israelites messed up again and again. So will we. But we can repent,

submit, and turn back again to enjoy the gift of His presence (vv. 40-42),

manifested in Jesus and now expressed through the Holy Spirit.
