Herod's Anxiety
Mt 14:1-12; Mk 6:14-29
7 (Mt 14:1-12; Mk 6:14-28) Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that
was done by Him. And he was perplexed, because it was said by some
that John had risen from the dead,
8 (Lk 9:19; Jn 1:21) and by some that Elijah had appeared,
and by others that one of the old prophets had risen.
9 (Lk 23:8) But Herod said, "I have beheaded John. But who is this of
whom I hear such things?" And he tried to see Him.
[7] Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was
perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the
dead;
[8] And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old
prophets was risen again.
[9] And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear
such things? And he desired to see him.
Mark 6:14-29
The Death of John the Baptist
Mt 14:1-12; Lk 9:7-9
14 (Lk 9:7-9) King Herod heard of Him, for His name was spread publicly.
He said, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead,
and therefore these miracles are at work in him."
15 (Mt 21:11; 16:14) But others said, "He is Elijah."
And yet others said, "He is the Prophet, or like one of the prophets."
16 But when Herod heard of it, he said, "It is John, whom I beheaded.
He has been raised from the dead!"
17 (Mt 11:2; Lk 3:19-20) Herod had sent and seized John and bound him
in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,
for he had married her.
18 (Lev 18:16; 20:21) For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you
to have your brother's wife."
19 So Herodias had a grudge against him and would have killed him,
but she could not,
20 (Mt 21:26; 14:5) for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous
and holy man, and protected him. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed,
but heard him gladly.
21 (Est 2:18; Ge 40:20) But a convenient day came when Herod on his birthday
prepared a ceremonial dinner for his lords and commanding officers and leading
men of Galilee.
22 When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced and pleased Herod
and those who sat with him, the king said to the girl, "Ask of me whatever
you desire, and I will give it to you."
23 (Est 5:3; 7:2) And he swore to her, "Whatever you ask of me,
I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."
24 She went out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?"
She said, "The head of John the Baptist."
25 She came in immediately with haste to the king and asked,
"I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter at once."
26 The king was extremely sorrowful. Yet for the sake of his oath
and those who sat with him, he would not reject her.
27 So the king immediately sent an executioner and commanded his head
to be brought. He went and beheaded him in the prison,
28 and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl.
And the girl gave it to her mother.
29 When his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse
and laid it in a tomb.
[14] And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he

the daughter of Herodias danced before them and pleased Herod.
7Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask.
8 Being previously instructed by her mother, she said,
"Give me John the Baptist's head on a platter."
9 The king was sorry. Nevertheless, for the oath's sake and those
who sat with him at supper, he commanded it to be given to her.

The Feeding of the Five Thousand

13 (Lk 9:10-17) When Jesus heard this, He departed from there by boat
for a deserted place. But when the people heard it, they followed Him
on foot from the cities.
14 (Mt 9:36; 4:23) Jesus went ashore and saw a great assembly.
And He was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick.
15 (Mt 15:23) When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying,
"This is a lonely place and the day is now over. Send the crowds away
to go into the villages and buy themselves food."
16 (2Ki 4:42-44) But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to depart.
You give them something to eat."
17 They said to Him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish.
18 He said, "Bring them here to Me."
19 (1Sa 9:13; Lk 24:30) Then He commanded the crowds to sit down
on the grass. He took the five loaves and the two fish,
and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves
to His disciples; and the disciples gave them to the crowds.
20 (Lk 9:17) They all ate and were filled. And they took up twelve baskets
full of the fragments that remained.
21 Those who had eaten were about five thousand men,
besides women and children.
[13] When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place
apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out
of the cities.
[14] And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with
compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
[15] And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a
desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they

The Feeding of the Five Thousand

30 (Lk 9:10; Mt 10:2; Lk 17:5) The apostles met with Jesus
and told him everything, both what they had done and what they had taught.
31 (Mk 3:20) Then He said to them, "Come away by yourselves
to a remote place and rest a while," for many were coming and going,
and they had no leisure even to eat.
32 So they went into a remote place privately by boat.
33 But the people saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran
there on foot out of every city. They arrived first and came together
to Him.
34 (Mt 9:36; Nu 27:17) When Jesus came out and saw many people,
He was moved with compassion on them, because they were like sheep
without a shepherd. And He began to teach them many things.
35 When the day was now getting late, His disciples came to Him and said,
"This is a remote place, and now the time is passing.
36 (Mt 15:23) Send them away into the surrounding country
and villages to buy themselves bread, for they have nothing to eat."
37 (2Ki 4:42-44; Nu 11:13) But He answered, "You give them something to eat."
They said to Him, "Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii
[Eight months' wages.] worth of bread and give it to them to eat?"
38 (Mt 15:34; Mk 8:5) He said to them, "How many loaves have you? Go and see."
When they found out, they said, "Five, and two fish."
39 Then He commanded them to make everyone sit down by companies on the green
grass.
40 So they sat down in ranks, by hundreds and by fifties.
41 (Mt 14:19; 1Sa 9:13) When He had taken the five loaves and the two fish,
He looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves,
and gave them to His disciples to set before them.
And He divided the two fish among them all.
42 They all ate and were filled.
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments and of the fish.
44 Those who ate of the loaves were about five thousand men.
[30] And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him
all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
[31] And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place,
and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no
leisure so much as to eat.
[32] And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
[33] And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot
thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him.
[34] And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with

10 (Mt 11:21; Lk 10:17) When the apostles returned, they told Jesus
all that they had done. Then He took them and went aside privately
into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.
11 But when the crowds knew it, they followed Him.
And He welcomed them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God,
and healed those who had need of healing.
12 (Mt 15:23) When the day began to end, the twelve came
and said to Him, "Send the crowds away, so they can go into the towns
and surrounding countryside and lodge and get food.
For we are in a deserted place here."
13 (2Ki 4:42-43) He said to them, "You give them something to eat."
They said, "We have no more than five loaves and two fish,
unless we go and buy food for all these people."
14 There were about five thousand men.
But He said to His disciples, "Make them sit down in groups of fifty."
15 They did so, and made them all sit down.

2 And a great crowd followed Him, because they saw His signs which He did
for the sick.
3 Then Jesus went up on a mountain, and He sat there with His disciples.
4 Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.
5 When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming to Him, He said to Philip,
"Where shall we buy bread that these may eat?"
6 He said this to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.
7 Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient
for each of them to receive but a little."
8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,
9 "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fish.
But what are they among so many?"
10 Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass
in the place. So the men sat down, numbering about five thousand.
11 Jesus then took the loaves, and when He had given thanks,
He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those who
were sitting down; and likewise, they distributed the fish,
as much as they wanted.
12 When they were filled, He told His disciples, "Collect the fragments
that remain, that nothing may be lost."
13 So they collected them and filled twelve baskets with the fragments
of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.
14 When those men saw the sign which He had done, they then said,
"This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."
15 Therefore, knowing that they would come and take Him by force
to make Him king, Jesus departed again to a mountain by Himself alone.

45 (Mk 8:22; Jn 6:15-21) Immediately He compelled His disciples to get
into the boat and to go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida,
while He sent the crowd away.
46 (Mt 14:23; Mk 1:35) When He had sent them away, He departed to a mountain
to pray.
47 When evening came, the boat was in the midst of the sea.
And He was alone on the land.
48 (Lk 12:38; 24:28) He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind
was against them. About the fourth watch of the night He came to them,
walking on the sea and would have passed by them.
49 (Lk 24:37) But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed
it was a ghost, and cried out.
50 (Mt 14:27; Isa 43:2) For they all saw Him and were troubled.
Immediately He spoke to them and said,
"Be of good cheer, it is I. Do not be afraid."
51 (Mk 4:39) Then He went up to them in the boat and the wind ceased.
They were greatly astonished in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.

of the loaves, for their hearts were hardened.

[48] And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them:

[49] But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a
spirit, and cried out:
[50] For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with
them, and saith unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
[51] And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they
were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
[52] For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was
hardened.

22 Then Jesus commanded His disciples to get into the boat
and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away.
23 (Lk 6:12; Mk 6:46) When He sent the crowds away, He went up
into a mountain by Himself to pray. And when evening came,
He was there alone.
24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves,
for the wind was turbulent.
25 (Job 9:8; Mt 24:43) During the fourth watch of the night
Jesus went to them, walking on the sea.
26 (Lk 24:37) But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea,
they were troubled, saying, "It is a spirit." And they cried out in fear.
27 (Mt 9:2; Ac 23:11) But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying,
"Be of good cheer. It is I. Do not be afraid."
28 Peter answered Him and said,
"Lord, if it is You, bid me come to You on the water."
29 He said, "Come." And when Peter got out of the boat,
he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink,
he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
31 (Mt 6:30; 8:26) Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him,
and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 (Ps 2:7; Mt 16:16) Then those who were in the boat came and worshipped
Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."
[22] And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and
to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

[33] Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a

16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea.
17 They got into a boat and went across the sea toward Capernaum.
It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.
18 The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing.
19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus
walking on the sea and coming near the boat. And they were afraid.
20 But He said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid."
21 Then they gladly received Him into the boat,
and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
[16] And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,
[17] And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it
was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.
[18] And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.
[19] So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they
see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were
afraid.
[20] But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
[21] Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the
ship was at the land whither they went.

The Healing of the Sick in Gennesaret

53 (Mt 14:34-36; Lk 5:1) When they had crossed over, they came to the land
of Gennesaret and anchored on the shore.
54 When they had come out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,
55 (Mt 4:24) and ran throughout the surrounding region,
and began to carry the sick on beds to wherever they heard He was.
56 (Mt 9:20; Mk 3:10) And wherever He entered, into villages, cities,
or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and pleaded with Him
that they might touch even the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched
Him were healed.
[53] And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
and drew to the shore.
[54] And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
[55] And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about
in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
[56] And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country,
they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if
it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made
whole.

The Healing of the Sick in Gennesaret

34 (Mk 6:53-56; Lk 5:1) When they had crossed over, they came to the land
of Gennesaret.
35 And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent word to all
the surrounding country and brought to Him all who were sick,
36 (Mk 3:10; Lk 6:19) and begged Him that they might only touch
the hem of His garment. And as many as touched it were made perfectly well.
[34] And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

I got an 84 on the test!
I felt my teen's excitement as I read her message on my phone. She'd just
started attending classes at a high school and was using her phone during
lunch. My mama heart leaped, not just because my daughter had done well on a
challenging test, but because she was choosing to communicate it to me. She
wanted to share her good news with me!
Realising that her text had made my day, I later thought about how God must
feel when I reach out to Him. Is He as pleased when I talk to Him? Prayer is
how we communicate with God and something we're told to do "continually"
(1 Thessalonians 5:17). Talking with Him reminds us that He's with us through
the good and the bad. Sharing our news with God, even though He already knows
all about us, is helpful as it shifts our focus and helps us think about Him.
Isaiah 26:3 says, "You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are
steadfast [fixed on you], because they trust in you." We have peace awaiting
us when we turn our attention to God.
Regardless of what we face, may we continually speak with God and keep in
touch with our Creator and Savior. Whisper a prayer and remember to rejoice
and "give thanks." After all, Paul says, this is "God's will" for us
(1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Week 8 Guided by Grace Day 6 - Through The Fire
Is 43:2
2 (Ps 66:12; Da 3:25-27) When you pass through waters,
I will be with you. And through the rivers,they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
nor shall the flame kindle on you.
2 When thou passest through the waters,
I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:
when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned;
neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
In the Book of Daniel, 3 young men provide one of the world's best-known
Bible stories. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, three of the finest young
men of Israel, were taken into capitivity to Babylon. There King
Nebuchadnezzar, filled with his own importance, commanded that
everyone bow down and worship his image.
When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to worship anyone
except the One True god, they were cast into Nebuchadnezzar's
furnace of fire.
Is 43:2 brings their experience into focus for us. There the Lord says,
"When you pass through the fire ... when you walk through the water ..."
Not if, but when. If we are committed to serving and honouring the Lord,
at some point we will be faced with "passing through the fire" for hm.
We may not face a physical furnace, but we may face the fires of
persecution, anger, hostility or suffering. And God says:
"I will be with you."
When the three young Israelites stepped into the king's furnace, all
the people looked and saw, not three, but four men in the fire, their
bonds burned away, walking freely among the flames. They did not
escape the fate decreed for them. But the Lord was with them in
the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the flood
and the fire, as surely as he has promised to be with us in the
flood and fire tht life brings to us. The promise of god remains:
"I will be with you; the waters will not overflow, nor will the
flames burn you."

Charlottetown does not currently (fall 2014) have a local CNMM network.
Pray with us for God's people to come together in reaching Muslims
cooperatively across denominational and organisational lines.
More than 200 attended the Eid festival at the end of Ramadan, the Islamic
month of fasting during daylight hours and the reading of the Qur'an, at
the Dar as-Salam mosque in 2014. This second mosque established
in Charlottetown, the other being the Muslims Association of PEI.
As of mid-2014,there are between 250 to 300 families, mostly in Charlottetown.
The Muslims of Charlottetown see their community as symbolically important
for this nation since this is known as the "birthplace of Canada". Yet we were
established as the "Dominion of Canada" with an appeal not only to
monarchial authority, but even more to God's higher Biblical authority as
shown in Psalm 72:8, "May he have dominion from sea to sea,
and from the River to the ends of the earth."
Let us intercede together for:
- the growing Muslim population of Charlottetown and spreading
outward through PEI to encounter the Prince of Peace.
- believers to have faith and vision to reach out to the Muslim Community
in contextual ways to share the Gospel
- churches and ministries to rise up in wisdom, knowledge and understanding,
giving and training, coaching and encouragement to believers reaching
out to Muslims locally.
- a prayer movement to be established, feeding a growing move of Yahweh's
Spirit in His churches and people , and an awakening an openness
and spiritual hunger in Muslims for relationship with the Father
through the Son.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month
and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days
of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that
usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,
of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be
decorated and festivals will be held.
For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the
distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of
Islam.
You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",
which means Blessed Eid!"
Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you
know, and Muslims around the world:
- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions
in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about
unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such
movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three
decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim
relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.
Acts 2:12-17 : 17 12 They were all amazed and perplexed, saying to each other,
"What does this mean?"
13 (1Co 14:23) Others mocking said, "These men are full of new wine."
Peter's Speech at Pentecost
14 (Ac 1:26) But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice
and said to them, "Men of Judea and all you who dwell in Jerusalem,
let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

discipleship movements among Muslim people.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to continue to inspire you to have god's heart for
Muslims, to see them as He does, and to be the light that then to Jesus.
Matthew 5:14-15 : 14 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under
a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the
house."
Ideas for prayer
- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you
- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving
Christ among Muslim people -
Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."
- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims
throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further
call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity
(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, atheists, secular humanists, ...)

I) Pray for the leaders of New Brunswick, that God's Spirit would influence
then to act justly, serve with integrity and honour high moral standards.

prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for everyone,
2 (Ezr 6:10) for kings and for all who are in authority,
that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty,
3(1Ti 1:1; Lk 1:47) for this is good and acceptable in the sight of
God our Savior, 4 (Eze 18:23; 18:32)who desires all men to be saved
and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
II) Pray for the churches of the province,
that they would be lighthouses beaming forth
the illuminating truth of God's Word.
III) Pray that the Lord would use the Finding
the Hope Campaign and booklet to turn many hearts to Jesus
Conclusion:
Pray to the Lord and pray to have faith in him who give you power.
Pray to the Lord: "Gracious God, please remind me to stay in touch
with You throughout my day. I want to rejoice
and give You thanks in all I face."
Pray to the Lord and pray to know He will guide you through times of trouble.
Pray to the Lord and pray to know Him as the receiver of tithes and offerings.
Pray to the Lord and pray to know Him who can heal you.
