[1] God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the

gods.

[2] How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?

[3] Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

[4] Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

1 Do not keep Your silence, O God;

do not hold Your peace or be still, O God.

2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) For, look, Your enemies make an uproar,

and those who hate You have lifted up their heads.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) They have given crafty counsel against Your people,

and have consulted against Your treasured ones.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) They have said,

"Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation,

that the name of Israel may be no more remembered."

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) For they have conspired together;

they make a covenant against You-

Fellow Servants of God



1 (Ro 7:14; 1Co 2:14-15) Brothers, I could not speak to you as

to spiritual men, but as to worldly, even as to babes in Christ.

2 (Jn 16:12; 1Pe 2:2) I have fed you with milk and not with solid food.

For to this day you were not able to endure it. Nor are you able now,

3 (1Co 1:11; 11:18) for you are still worldly. Since there is envy,

strife, and divisions among you, are you not worldly and behaving as mere men?

4 (1Co 1:12) For while one says, "I am of Paul," and another,

"I am of Apollos," are you not worldly?

but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to each one?

After Lam Wai Chan moved from his native Singapore to pastor a church in

Japan, he panicked. The church had barely twenty members. In a nation known as

a "missionary graveyard," where about one percent of the nation's people are

Christian and many churches sit empty, Lam felt "like I was taking over a

sinking ship." Crying out to God, he sensed the answer: Offer the church back

to Me.



Rather than "update" worship or music, Wai Chan asked members to pray - for

their needs, family members, and friends who didn't know Jesus.

Slowly, the church doubled in size.



Their faithful praying is a living, biblical model of how to build a community

in Jesus. First, pray. "In every situation, by prayer and petition, with

thanksgiving," Paul wrote, "present your requests to God," and do all of this

without worry about anything (Philippians 4:6). In this way, we offer our

ministries, churches, and programs back to God. We may plant seeds and water

them, but as the apostle said, "Neither the one who plants nor the one who

waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow" (1 Corinthians 3:7).

He was imploring believers at Corinth to stop quarrelling about which church

leader they followed (vv. 3-6).



As Paul said, "No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid,

which is Jesus Christ" (v. 11). Let's prayerfully give our churches back to

Him. Then, watch them grow.

Week 2 - Saved by Grace - Day 3 - The Remedy



Acts 4:12



12 (Mt 1:21; Jn 3:36) "There is no salvation in any other,

for there is no other name under heaven given among men

by which we must be saved."



12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name

under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.



"You have cancer", the doctor told his patient. "We need to operate

- as soon as possible. It's the only remedy." The patient, not wanting

to undergo surgery unless it was absolutely necessary, sought out a second

opinion, then a third. When the third round of testing came up with the same

results, she returned to the doctor and submitted herself to the treatment.

Often the remedy for the problems in our lives seems worst than the problems

themselves. We don't want to endure the pain of self-examination, of honest

confrontation with our sin and selfishness. We'd rather live in "blissful

ignorance" than face up to ourselves.

But the Bible tells us there is only one remedy for sin: casting ourselves

upon the saving grace of God in Jesus Christ. Submitting ourselves to God's

"treatment" for sin is not an easy matter or a simple decision. We have to

give up on ourselves, on our own striving for self-salvation. We have to come

to the agonising realisation of our sin, the depths to which we have fallen.

Acknowledging sin is not a duty simply for "bad" people who have lived in

rebellion against God. "Good" people - Sunday-school kids, moral parents,

and sweet little grandmothers - may have more difficulty coming to Christ

than swindlers and prostitutes, precisely because their sin is not as

visible - sometimes it is even applauded by church and society.

"Good" or "bad", we all have the same problem: sin. And, because

of the Lord's grace, we all have the same remedy: salvation through Christ.

As we look to him, not to others, and see ourselves in light of his holiness,

we can glimpse the seriousness of our own resistance to him and call upon

his name.
