Acts 21:17-19



17 (Ac 15:4) When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly.

18 (Ac 11:30; 15:13) On the next day Paul went with us to James, and all

the elders were present.

had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

Acts 21:20



20 (Ac 22:3; Ro 10:2) When they heard this, they glorified the Lord.

Then they said to him, "You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews

there are who believe, and they are all zealous for the law.



[20] And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him,

Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and

they are all zealous of the law:



Acts 21:21-22



21 (Ac 21:28) They have been informed concerning you that you teach

all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them

not to circumcise their children nor to observe the customs.

22 What then shall be done? The assembly will certainly meet, for they

will hear that you have come.



[21] And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which

are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to

circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

[22] What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they

will hear that thou art come.



Ask God to examine our hearts, attitudes and motives



Acts 21:23-25



23 (Ac 18:18) Therefore do what we tell you. We have four men who have

taken a vow.

24 (Ac 21:26; 24:18) Take these men and be purified with them, and pay

their expenses so that they may have their heads shaved. Then all will

know that what they were told concerning you is nothing, but that you

yourself live in observance of the law.

25 (Ac 15:29) As for the Gentiles who believe, we have written and

concluded that they should observe no such thing, except that they abstain

from food offered to idols, from sexual immorality, from strangled

animals, and from blood."



[23] Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a

vow on them;

[24] Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them,

that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof

they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also

walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

[25] As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded

that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from

things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from

fornication.



Acts 21:26



26 (Ac 24:18; Nu 6:13-20) Then on the next day, Paul took the men

and purified himself with them. And he went into the temple, announcing

when the days of purification would be complete and an offering would

be given for each one of them.



[26] Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them

entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of

purifcation, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.



Honour God's delegated Authority



Hebrews 13:17



17 (Ac 20:28; Heb 13:7) Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch

over your souls as those who must give an account. Let them do this with joy

and not complaining, for that would not be profitable to you.



[17] Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they

watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it

with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.



Being all things to all people for the sake of the Gospel



1 Corinthians 9:22



22 (Ro 11:14; 1Co 10:33) To the weak, I became as weak, that I might win

the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means

save some.



[22] To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all

things to all men, that I might by all means save some.



Acts 21:27-36

Paul Arrested in the Temple



27 (Ac 24:18; 26:21) When the seven days were nearly concluded, the Jews

from Asia saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people,

and laid hands on him,

28 (Ac 24:5-6; 21:21) crying out, "Men of Israel, help! This is the man

teaching all men everywhere against the people and the law and this place.

He even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place."

29 (Ac 20:4) For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the

city with him, whom they supposed Paul had brought into the temple.

30 (Ac 26:21) Then the whole city was provoked, and the people ran

together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple.

And immediately the doors were shut.

31 While they were trying to kill him, news came up to the commander

(Gk. chiliarch, a battalion commander

with the rank of lieutenant colonel over 1,000 soldiers.)

of the battalion of soldiers that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

32 (Ac 23:27) He at once took soldiers and centurions, and ran down

to them. When they saw the commander and the soldiers,

they stopped beating Paul.

33 (Ac 12:6; 20:23) Then the commander came and arrested him, and ordered

that he be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was

and what he had done.

34 (Ac 19:32; 23:10) Some in the crowd shouted one thing, some another.

As he could not learn the truth because of the uproar,

he commanded that he be brought into the barracks.

35 When he came onto the stairs, he was carried by the soldiers

because of the violence of the people.

36 (Lk 23:18; Jn 19:15) For the mob of people followed, crying out,

"Away with him!"



[27] And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia,

when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands

[28] Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men

every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further

brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place.

whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)

[30] And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took

Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut.

[31] And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain

of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

[32] Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them:

and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of

Paul.

[33] Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be

bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done.

[34] And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when

he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be

carried into the castle.

[35] And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the

soldiers for the violence of the people.

[36] For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.



How do we respond when we feel misunderstood, mistreated or falsely accused?



A) Let God defend you.



1 Peter 2:23



23 (Isa 53:7; Lk 23:46) When He was reviled, He did not revile back; when He

suffered, He did not threaten, but He entrusted Himself to Him who judges

righteously.



[23] Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he

threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:



B) Guard our hearts from unforgiveness or bitternesss



C) Realise that hardship buils character abd resilience.



D) Pray and bless those who persecute us,

1 But Jehoshaphat king of Judah returned to his palace in Jerusalem in peace.

2 (1Ki 16:1; 2Ch 16:7) And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet

him, and he said to King Jehoshaphat, "How do you help those who are wicked

and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, wrath has gone out against

you from the Lord.

3 (2Ch 12:12; 1Ki 14:13) However, some good things are found in you for you

swept away the Asherah poles from the land,

and you set your heart to seek after God."



[1] And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to

Jerusalem.

[2] And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to

king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the ungodly, and love them that hate

the LORD? therefore is wrath upon thee from before the LORD.

[3] Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast

taken away the groves out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seek

God.



The Reforms of Jehoshaphat



4 (2Ch 15:8-13) Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, but he went out

among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim,

and he brought them back to the Lord God of their fathers.

5 (Dt 16:18-20) And he set judges in the land among

all the fortified cities of Judah, one by one.

6 (Dt 1:17) And he said to the judges, "Consider carefully what you do

because you do not judge according to man but the Lord, a

nd He is with you in the matter of judgment.

7 (Ge 18:25; Dt 32:4) So now may the fear of the Lord be on you.

Consider and act well because there is no injustice, partiality,

or bribe taking with the Lord our God."

8 (2Ch 17:8-9) Moreover, Jehoshaphat appointed in Jerusalem

some from the Levites and the priests and some from the heads of the families

of Israel, in order to render judgment and decide disputes before the Lord;

and they lived in Jerusalem.

9 (2Sa 23:3) And he commanded them, "So you will act in the fear of the Lord,

in honesty, and with a complete heart.

10 (Dt 17:8-13) And any dispute that comes before you all from your brothers

who live in their cities, concerning bloodshed or offenses against law

or commandment, against statutes or judgments, you will warn them,

lest they trespass against the Lord and wrath come upon you and your brothers.

Do this, and you will not trespass.

11 (1Ch 26:30; 2Ch 19:8) "Note that Amariah the chief priest is over you

in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael,

the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters;

also, the Levites will be officials before you.

Deal courageously, and the Lord will be with the good."



[4] And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the

people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD

God of their fathers.

[5] And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah,

city by city,

[6] And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man,

but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.

[7] Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it:

for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor

taking of gifts.

[8] Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the

priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the

LORD, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.

[9] And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the LORD,

faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

[10] And what cause soever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in

their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes

and judgments, ye shall even warn them that they trespass not against the

LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and ye

shall not trespass.

[11] And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the

LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for

all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal

courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.

Jehoshaphat Defeats Moab and Ammon



1 After that, the Moabites and the Ammonites, together with some Meunites,

[Or Abi in 2Ki 18:2.] came against Jehoshaphat for battle.

2 (Ge 14:7; 1Sa 23:29) And some came and declared this to Jehoshaphat,

"A large multitude is coming against you from across the Dead Sea f

rom Edom; and observe, they are in Hazezon Tamar" (that is, En Gedi).

3 (2Ch 19:3; 1Sa 7:6) Then Jehoshaphat was fearful and set himself to seek

the Lord, and he called for a fast throughout all Judah.

4 And Judah was assembled to seek the Lord; even from all the cities of Judah,

they came to obtain aid from the Lord.

5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the midst of the assembly of Judah

and Jerusalem in the house of the Lord before the new courtyard,

6 (1Ch 29:11-12; Dt 4:39; Da 4:17) and he said:

"O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in the heavens?

And do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations?

In Your hand are strength and might, and there is no one who can oppose You.

7 (Isa 41:8; Jas 2:23) Did You not, our God, drive out those who lived

in this land before Your people Israel, and You gave it perpetually

to the descendants of Abraham, who was in covenant love with You.

8 And they have dwelled in it and have built in it for You a sanctuary

for Your name saying,

9 (2Ch 6:20; 6:28-30) 'If disaster comes upon us, the sword, or judgment,

or pestilence, or famine, then we will stand before this temple

and before You because Your name is in this temple.

And we will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear and deliver.'

10 (Nu 20:17-21; Dt 2:4-5) "Now here are the sons of Ammon and Moab

and Mount Seir, whom You did not let Israel invade when they came

out of the land of Egypt, when they turned away from them

and did not destroy them.

11 (Ps 83:3-12) See how they are rewarding us by coming to drive us out

of Your possession, which You have given us to inherit.

12 (Ps 25:15; Jdg 11:27) O our God, will You not render judgment on them?

For we have not strength enough to stand before this great army that is

coming against us. And we do not know what we should do,

but our eyes are on You."

13 Now all of Judah was standing before the Lord,

even their infants, wives, and children.

14 (2Ch 15:1; 24:20) And in the midst of the assembly the Spirit of the Lord

came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel,

the son of Mattaniah, a Levite from the line of Asaph.

15 (1Sa 17:47; 2Ch 32:7-8) And he said, "Pay attention all Judah,

and those dwelling in Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat:

Thus says the Lord to you, 'Do not fear, nor be dismayed

because of this great army, for the battle is not yours, but God's.

16 Tomorrow, go down against them. They will travel up by the Ascent of Ziz.

You will find them at the back of the valley, before the Wilderness of Jeruel.

17 (2Ch 15:2; Ex 14:13-14) It will not be necessary for you to fight

in this conflict. Take your positions, stand, and observe the deliverance

of the Lord for you, O Judah and Jerusalem.' Do not fear or be filled

with terror. Tomorrow, go out before them, and the Lord will be with you."

18 (Ex 4:31) Then Jehoshaphat bowed his face to the ground, and all Judah

and those dwelling in Jerusalem fell before the Lord to worship Him.

19 And the Levites from the descendants of the Kohathites and Korahites

rose up to praise the Lord God of Israel with a very loud voice.

20 (Isa 7:9; 2Sa 14:2) So they rose up early in the morning and went out

to the Wilderness of Tekoa. And when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood

and said, "Listen to me, Judah and those dwelling in Jerusalem.

Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be supported.

Believe His prophets, and you will succeed."

21 (1Ch 16:29; 16:34) And he consulted with the people and then appointed

singers for the Lord and those praising Him in holy attire as they went

before those equipped for battle saying,

"Praise the Lord, for His mercy endures forever."

22 (Jdg 7:22; 2Ch 13:13) When they began singing and praising, the Lord set

ambushes against Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah;

so they were defeated.

23 (Jdg 7:22; 1Sa 14:20) Then the Ammonites and Moabites stood up against

those dwelling from Mount Seir to destroy and finish them. Then when they made

an end of the inhabitants of Seir, each man attacked his companion

to destroy each other.

24 And Judah came to the watchtower of the wilderness, and they turned

to the vast army and saw only corpses lying on the ground.

And no one was spared.

25 Then Jehoshaphat and his people came to gather their plunder,

and they found among them an abundance of riches with the corpses,

and precious jewelry, which they took for themselves, more than they

could carry. They were gathering the plunder for three days

because there was so much to carry.

26 On the fourth day they gathered at the Valley of Berakah,

because there they blessed the Lord. For this reason people have called

the name of this place the Valley of Berakah until this day.

27 (Ne 12:43) Then they all returned, every man from Judah and Jerusalem,

with Jehoshaphat as their head, to Jerusalem with joy because the Lord made

them rejoice because of the death of their enemies.

28 So they entered Jerusalem with harps, lyres,

and trumpets to the house of the Lord.

29 (2Ch 17:10; Ge 35:5) And it happened that the terror of God was on

all the kingdoms of the lands who heard that the Lord had fought

against the enemies of Israel.

30 (2Ch 14:6-7; 15:15) So the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was quiet,

because his God gave him rest on all sides.

[1] It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the

children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against

Jehoshaphat to battle.

[2] Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great

multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold,

they be Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.

[3] And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and

proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

[4] And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even

out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

[5] And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in

the house of the LORD, before the new court,

[6] And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and

rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is

there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

[7] Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land

before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend

for ever?

[8] And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy

name, saying,

[9] If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or

famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in

this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and

help.

[10] And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom

thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of

Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

[11] Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy

possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

[12] O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this

great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our

eyes are upon thee.

[13] And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their

wives, and their children.

[14] Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of

Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit

of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

[15] And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem,

and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor

dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but

God's.

[16] To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of

Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness

of Jeruel.

[17] Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye

still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem:

fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will

be with you.

[18] And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all

Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping

the LORD.

[19] And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children

of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud

voice on high.

[20] And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness

of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O

Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so

shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

[21] And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto

the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out

before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for

ever.

[22] And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments

against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come

against

Judah; and they were smitten.

[23] For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of

mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end

of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

[24] And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they

looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the

earth, and none escaped.

[25] And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of

them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies,

and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they

could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was

so much.

[26] And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of

Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same

place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

[27] Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat

in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD

had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

[28] And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto

the house of the LORD.

[29] And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when

they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

[30] So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round

about.



2 Chronicles 20:31-37



The End of Jehoshaphat's Reign

1Ki 22:41-50



31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He was 35 years old when he began

his reign, and he was king in Jerusalem for twenty-five years.

The name of his mother was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

32 He walked in the way of his father Asa, and he did not turn aside

from doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

33 (2Ch 17:6; 19:3) Only the high places were not taken down.

The people had yet to set their hearts to the God of their fathers.

34 (1Ki 16:1; 2Ch 19:2) And the remainder of the acts of Jehoshaphat,

from beginning to end, are written in the annals of Jehu son of Hanani,

which are taken up in the book of the kings of Israel.

35 (1Ki 22:48-49) Also, Jehoshaphat king of Judah was united

with Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted wickedly.

36 Jehoshaphat joined with him to make ships to travel to Tarshish,

and they made ships in Ezion Geber.

37 (Pr 13:20; 2Ch 9:21) And Eliezer son of Dodavahu from Mareshah

prophesied against Jehoshaphat saying, "Because you have joined with Ahaziah,

the Lord will tear down your works."

So the ships were wrecked, so that they were not able to journey to Tarshish.



[31] And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old

when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem.

And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

[32] And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it,

doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

[33] Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had

not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

[34] Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they

are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the

book of the kings of Israel.

[35] And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah

king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

[36] And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and

they made the ships in Ezion-geber.

[37] Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against

Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD

hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to

go to Tarshish.

Jehoram, King of Judah



2 Ki 8:16-24



4 (Jdg 9:5; Ge 4:8) Then Jehoram rose up over the kingdom of his father

and he became strong. And he killed all his brothers with the sword

and even some of the officials in Israel.



[4] Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he

strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers

also of the princes of Israel.



2 Chronicles 21:5-7



5 Now Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began as king,

and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 (2Ch 18:1; 1Ki 12:28-30) And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel

as those from the house of Ahab did, for the daughter of Ahab

was the wife of Jehoram. And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord.

7 (1Ki 11:36; 2Sa 7:12-17) But the Lord was not willing to destroy the house

of David because of the covenant that He made with David, and because

He said that He would give a lamp to David and his sons for all days.



[5] Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he

reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

[6] And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house

of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which

was evil in the eyes of the LORD.

[7] Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the

covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to

him and to his sons for ever.



2 Chronicles 21:8-20



8 In the days of Jehoram, Edom revolted from being under the hand of Judah,

and they set a king for themselves.

9 So Jehoram passed over to the Edomite territory with his commanders

and all his chariots, and it happened that he rose up at night

and struck the Edomites, who had surrounded him and his chariot commanders.

10 So Edom revolted from being under the hand of Judah until this day.

At that time Libnah also revolted from being under their rule, because Jehoram

had abandoned the Lord God of his fathers.

11 (Lev 20:5; 17:7) He even made high places in the hill country of Judah a

nd caused those in Jerusalem to be like prostitutes, and he led Judah astray.

12 (2Ch 14:2-5; 17:3-4) And a letter came to him

from Elijah the prophet, saying,

"Thus says the Lord God of David your father: Because you have not walked

in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, or in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

13 (2Ch 21:4; 21:11) but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel,

and have led Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem into whoredom,

as the house of Ahab led Israel into whoredom, and also have killed

your brothers, those of your father's house, who were better than you,

14 the Lord will bring a great plague on your people, your children,

your wives, and all your possessions;

15 (2Ch 21:18-19) and you will have great sickness with a disease

of your intestines, until your intestines come out because of the disease,

day by day."

16 (2Ch 17:11; 1Ki 11:14) Then the Lord stirred up the spirit

of the Philistines against Jehoram and also the Arabians who were

near the Cushites.

17 (2Ch 22:1; 22:6; 25:23) And they went up against Judah and broke through,

and they took every possession found in the palace of the king,

even his sons and wives, so that no son was left with him

except his youngest Ahaziah.



[8] In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and

made themselves a king.

[9] Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him:

and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and

the captains of the chariots.

[10] So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day.

The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had

forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.

[11] Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the

inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.

[12] And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus

saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the

ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

[13] But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah

and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of

the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father's house,

which were better than thyself:

[14] Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy

children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:

[15] And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy

bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

[16] Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the

Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:

[17] And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all

the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his

wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest

of his sons.



The Death of Jehoram



18 (2Ch 21:15) And after all this, the Lord struck him in his entrails

with an incurable disease.

19 (2Ch 16:14) And it happened after many days, at the end of two years,

his entrails came out due to his disease, so he died by a despicable disease.

And his people did not make for him a memorial fire like the fire

for his fathers.

20 (Jer 22:18; 22:2) 8He was thirty-two when he began to reign,

and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed with no one's regret.

They buried him in the City of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.



[18] And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable

disease.

[19] And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two

years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore

diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his

fathers.

[20] Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned

in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they

buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.

Ahaziah, King of Judah



2Ki 8:25-29; 9:21-29



1 (2Ch 21:16-17; 2Ki 8:24-29) Then those in Jerusalem made Ahaziah,

the youngest son of Jehoram, king in his place because the raiding party,

those coming with the Arabians to the camp, killed all the older sons.

So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram reigned in Jerusalem.

2 (2Ki 8:26; 2Ch 21:6) Now Ahaziah was 42 years [2Ki 8:26 reads t22 years.]

old when he began to reign, but he only reigned one year in Jerusalem.

The name of his mother was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.

3 And he also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab

because his mother was the one counseling him to do evil.

4 (Pr 13:20) And he also did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord,

like the house of Ahab, for they served as his counselors

after his father Jehoram died, which led to his destruction.

5 Even Ahaziah walked in their counsel and went with Jehoram

the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Aram

at Ramoth Gilead. And the Arameans wounded Joram,

6 (2Ki 9:15) and the king returned to Jezreel to heal from the wounds

that he sustained in Ramah where he fought against Hazael king of Aram.

Then Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram

the son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was wounded.

7 (2Ki 9:21; 2Ch 10:15) And it was from God that a downfall would happen

to Ahaziah in regard to his visit with Joram. And when he arrived he went

out with Joram to see Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord anointed

to cut off the house of Ahab.



[1] And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in

his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had

slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

[2] Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he

reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the

daughter of Omri.

[3] He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his

counseller to do wickedly.

[4] Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab:

for they were his counsellers after the death of his father to his

destruction.

[5] He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of

Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead:

and the Syrians smote Joram.

[6] And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were

given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah

the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of

Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.

[7] And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when

he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom

the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.



2 Chronicles 22:8-9



8 And it happened that when Jehu was acting in judgment

with the house of Ahab that he found the rulers of Judah

and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, who were serving Ahaziah,

and Jehu killed them.

9 He sought out Ahaziah, and they captured him while he hid in Samaria,

and they brought him to Jehu, and they put him to death.

And they buried him because they said,

"He is the grandson of Jehoshaphat who sought the Lord with all his heart."

And there was no one from the house of Ahaziah strong enough

to retain the kingdom.



[8] And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the

house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren

of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.

[9] And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in

Samaria,)

and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him:

Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with

all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the

kingdom.



2 Chronicles 22:10-12



Athaliah Seizes the Throne



2Ki 11:1-21



10 So when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead,

she rose up and mounted a campaign to destroy all the royal offspring

of the house of Judah.

11 But Jehoshabeath,Jehosheba in [2Ki 11:2.] the daughter of the king,

took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from the king's sons

who were going to be put to death, and she placed him and his nurse

in a bed chamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram

and wife of Jehoiada the priest (since she was a sister of Ahaziah),

hid Joash from Athaliah. And she did not put the royal child to death.

12 And he was hidden away with them in the house of God for six years.

And Athaliah ruled over the land.



[10] But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she

arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

[11] But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of

Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put

him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king

Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of

Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.

[12] And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah

reigned over the land.

Joash, King of Judah



1 Then in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself

and made a covenant with the commanders over hundreds:

Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Jehohanan,

Azariah the son of Obed, Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat

the son of Zikri.

2 (2Ch 11:13-17) And they went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites

from all the cities of Judah and even the heads of the fathers' houses

in Israel. Then they all came to Jerusalem.

3 (2Sa 7:12; 2Ch 6:16) So the whole assembly made a covenant with the king

in the house of God, and Jehoiada said to them,

"The king's son will reign, as the Lord has said of the sons of David.

4 And this is the thing that you all will do: A third of you all from

the priests and Levites who come on the Sabbath will be gatekeepers,

5 1/3rd will be at the palace of the king and another third

at the Foundation Gate. And all the people will be in the courts of the house

of the Lord.

6 (1Ch 23:28-32) And may no one enter the house of the Lord

except the priests and those Levites who are serving. Those can enter

because they are holy, but all the people will keep their assigned

duty of the Lord.

7 Then the Levites will surround the king, each man with his weapon

in his hand, and whoever enters the house will be put to death.

They will be with the king when he enters and leaves."

8 (2Ki 11:9; 1Ch 24:1-26) The Levites and all Judah did everything

that Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each brought his men,

who were to come on duty on the Sabbath, with those who were

to go off duty on the Sabbath, because Jehoiada the priest did not

dismiss the divisions.

9 Then Jehoiada the priest gave to the commanders of hundreds

the spears and the large and small shields which had been King David's,

which were in the house of God.

10 Then he set all the people around the king,

each man with his weapon in hand, from the south side to the north side

of the temple, from the altar to the temple.

11 (1Sa 10:24; Ex 25:16) Then they brought out the son of the king

and set on him the crown and the testimony and they proclaimed him as king.

So Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said, "Long live the king!"

Epilogue: The Virtuous Wife



10 (Ru 3:11; Pr 12:4) Who can find a virtuous woman?

For her worth is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband safely trusts in her,

so that he will have no lack of gain.

12 She will do him good and not evil

all the days of her life.

13 She seeks wool and flax,

and works willingly with her hands.

14 She is like the merchant ships,

she brings her food from afar.

15 (Lk 12:42; Ro 12:11) She also rises while it is yet night,

and gives food to her household,

and a portion to her maidens.

16 She considers a field and buys it;

with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

During a family reunion many years ago, my mother shared some words she'd

written. She honoured her grandmother, a woman I'd never met but I'd heard her

spoken of often. Mom wrote that she recalled Mama Susan getting up "before

dawn" and praying over her household. What a distinct memory that impacted my

mother's life - one I cling to even today although I never

met my great-grandmother.



This description reminds me of the woman described in Proverbs 31. She cared

for her family in many tangible ways, and she got up "while it [was] still

night" (v. 15). She had plenty to do to care for her family, such as providing

food, purchasing land, planting a vineyard, making profitable trades, sewing

clothes, and finishing many other tasks - all in the name of caring

for the ones she loved. And she even extended her resourcefulness

to "the poor and . . . the needy" (v. 20).



Helping to care for a household during the time of the writing

of Proverbs 31 was no easy feat, as demonstrated from the long

list of duties described in this passage. And it wasn't an easy feat for

my great-grandmother, who was born in the 1800s. But prayers whispered

early in the morning - as well as throughout the day - kept these women

focused and encouraged as God helped them live out their calling

to care for their family and others.

In the old Days of Television Western, we could always tell who the enemy was.

The bad guys wore black hats; the evil villain had a scar across

his cheek or a patch over one eye. But real life is

not quite so simple . Enemies come in many forms, and often are not easy to

recognise. Sin is an enemy; even those we love can seek

to undermine our faith;

modern materialism and distorted values lead us away from biblical principles.

These enemies may not seek our death in a physical sense,

but their influence results in spiritual death or, at the very least,

immaturity.

Yet God promises to rescue us from our enemies. David describes the Lord as a

"rock", a "shield", a "stronghold", and a "refuge". God provides a stable

foundation for our faith; he products us from the attacks of the enemy;

he offers a place of rest in battle.

Our battles are usually not physical ones, but rather spiritual

and emotional wars.

We struggle with difficult relationships, the burdens of the past,

the subtle accusations of the devil.

But these enemies can be overcome. David says,

"I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise" .

When we turn to the Lord, trust his Word, acknowledge his

worthiness, we put our own problems and difficulties in perspective.

We see that God is able to rescue us, and has promised to do so.

And as we respond to his grace by focusing

on him, we abandon trust in ourselves and allow him to do what he promised.

There is a growing Muslim population in Quebec City and a smattering

of Muslims scattered around the rest of the province, yet the vast majority

of Muslims live in the greater Montreal area. n fact, 23% of Canada's Muslim

population live in Quebec. Why is that? It is largely because Francophone

African Muslims are attracted to La Belle Provence.

And here's an interesting, perhaps even shocking fact: There are more

Muslims in Montreal than there are evangelical Christians.

This is one demographic factor creates a challenging environment for churches

and believers here: The size of the available 'workforce' is small

by comparison to begin with. Believers are already is a host culture that

is often either indifferent to religion or resistant to it. And now

this 'new' religious community of Muslims - many of whom do not visibly

or socially conform to Quebec society - are a growing population. It might br

easy for Christians to feel overwhelm by this cultural double-whammy,

yet God has always worked miracles through the small, the few.

Agree in prayer for :



- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel

- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding

-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting

together for worship!

- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for

reaching Muslims in Quebec.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.



For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.



You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"



Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:



- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

21 And whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."[a]

to acknowledge the sanctity of life and server with true

and You know me completely.

before any of them came into being.

Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

b) Pray that the Church in Canada will remember the poor

and compassionately respond to their plight (



Gal 2:10

which I also was eager to do.

Conclusion:



Pray to Lord Jesus Christ to defend you in unjust circumstances.



Pray to the Lord and pray for Godly rulers to lead your nation.



Pray to the Lord: "Holy God, thank You for the women

and men who faithfully care for their families.

Please help me do the same."



Pray to the Lord and pray to know Lord jesus Christ as your shield.



Pray to the Lord and pray to obey the Lord Jesus Christ.



Pray to the Lord and pray to know the Lord is with you.



Agree in prayer for Quebec:



- The people of Quebec, Muslim or otherwise, to be open to the Gospel

- for Muslims who are encountering believers and responding

-for a new group of Muslim background believers who are meeting

together for worship!

- For pastors and believers to be full of passion, faith and vision for

reaching Muslims in Quebec.



- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
