Temple Offerings



1 (1Ch 22:5; 1Ki 3:7) King David said to all the assembly, "Solomon my son,

the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced, and the work

is great since the palace is not for a man but for the Lord God.

2 (1Ch 22:3-5; Isa 54:11-12) So with all my might I have prepared for

the house of my God: gold for the things of gold, silver for the things

of silver, bronze for the things of bronze, iron for the things of iron,

and wood for the things of wood, along with onyx stones and stones

for setting, stones of antimony, multicolored stones, and every precious

stone, even alabaster in abundance.

3 Moreover, in my devotion to the house

of my God I have offered from my own property, gold and silver, which I give

for the house of my God, over and above that which I prepared

for the holy dwelling place:

4 (1Ki 9:28; 1Ch 22:14) three thousand talents

[About 110 tons, or 100 metric tons.]

of gold of the gold of Ophir and seven thousand talents

[About 260 tons, or 235 metric tons.]

of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the house;

5 of gold for the things of gold and of silver for the things of silver,

even for all the handiwork of the craftsmen.

Now, who is willing to consecrate himself today to the Lord?"

6 Then the leaders of the fathers' houses, the leaders of the tribes

of Israel, the captains of thousands and hundreds, and the officials

of the king's workers offered willingly.

7 Also they donated to the service of the house of God five thousand talents

[About 190 tons, or 170 metric tons.] of gold and ten thousand darics

[About 185 pounds, or 84 kilograms. ]of gold, ten thousand talents

[About 380 tons, or 340 metric tons.] of silver, eighteen thousand talents

[About 675 tons, or 610 metric tons.] of bronze, and 100000 talents

[About 3,800 tons, or 3,400 metric tons.] of iron.

8 Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house

of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9 (1Ki 8:61) Then the people rejoiced because they had offered willingly,

for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord; a

nd King David also rejoiced greatly.



A Prayer of David



10 So David blessed the Lord in the presence of all the assembly,

and David said,

"Blessed are You, O Lord,

the God of Israel,

our Father forever and ever.

11 (Da 4:34-35; Mt 6:13) Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power,

and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty,

for everything in the heavens and the earth is Yours.

Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,

and You exalt Yourself as head aboveall.

12 (2Ch 1:12; 20:6) Riches and honor flow from You,

and You rule over all.

In Your hand are power and might,

and in Your hand it is to make great and to strengthen all.

13 So now, our God, we give thanks to You,

and praise Your glorious name.

14 "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer

so freely as this? For everything comes from You, even from Your own hand

we have given to You.

15 (Job 14:2; Ps 39:12) For we are strangers and sojourners before You,

just as all our fathers were. Our days on earth are like a shadow,

and there is no hope.

16 O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have prepared to build You

a house for Your holy name has come from Your hand, and all belongs to You.

17 (1Ch 28:9; 1Sa 16:7) I know, my God, that You test the heart,

and with uprightness You are pleased, so in the uprightness of my heart

I have offered freely all these things, and now I have seen Your people,

those present here, offer freely and joyously to You.

18 O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this

forever in the thoughts and intentions of the heart of Your people

and direct their heart to You.

19 (Ps 72:1; 1Ch 22:14) Grant to Solomon my son a whole heart

to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies, and Your statutes,

to do all these things and to build the palace

for which I have made preparation."

20 (Ex 4:31) Then David said to all the assembly, "Bless now the Lord

your God." So all the assembly blessed the Lord, the God of their fathers.

They bowed down and paid homage to the Lord and the king.



Solomon, King of Israel



1Ki 1:28-53



21 On the following day, they made sacrifices to the Lord and offered

burnt offerings to the Lord: one thousand bulls, one thousand rams,

and one thousand lambs, with their drink offerings and sacrifices

in abundance for all Israel.

22 (1Ch 23:1; 1Ki 1:34-39) So they ate and drank before the Lord on that day

with great joy.

And they made Solomon the son of David king a second time,

for they anointed him to the Lord as a ruler and Zadok as a priest.



1 Chronicles 29 (KJV)



1 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son,

whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great:

for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.

2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for

things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass

for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things

of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers

colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

3 Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have

of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house

of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,

4 even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir,

and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls

of the houses withal:

5 the gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver,

and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers.

And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?

6 Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel,

and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers

of the king's work, offered willingly,

7 and gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents

and ten thousand drams, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass

eighteen thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure

of the house of the LORD, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

9Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with

perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD:

and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.



Gives Thanks to God



10 Wherefore David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: and David

said, Blessed be thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.

11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory,

and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven

and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted

as head above all.

12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in

thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and

to give strength unto all.

13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer

so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine

own have we given thee.

15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers:

our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.

16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house

for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.

17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure

in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly

offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people,

which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.

18 O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for

ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and

prepare their heart unto thee:

19 and give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments,

thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build

the palace, for the which I have made provision.

20 And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God.

And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers,

and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the LORD, and the king.

21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings

unto the LORD, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks,

a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings,

and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:

22 and did eat and drink before the LORD on that day with great gladness.

And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and

anointed him unto the LORD to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.



1 Kings 1



Adonijah Seeks Kingship



1 Now King David was old and advanced in years, and they covered him

with clothes, but he could not get warm.

2 Therefore his servants said to him, "Let a young virgin be found

for my lord the king, and let her stand before the king and care for him,

and let her lie by your side so that my lord the king may keep warm."

3 (Jos 19:18; 1Sa 28:4) So they searched for a beautiful young woman

throughout the land of Israel and found Abishag, a Shunammite,

and brought her to the king.

4 She was very beautiful and cared for the king and ministered to him,

but the king did not know her intimately.

5 (2Sa 3:4; 15:1) Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying,

"I will be king," and he assembled chariots and horsemen and fifty men

to run before him.

6 (2Sa 3:3-4; 1Ch 3:2) His father had not confronted him at any time

by asking, "Why have you done this?" He also was a very attractive man,

and he was born next after Absalom.

7 (2Sa 20:25; 1Ki 2:22) He conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah

and with Abiathar the priest, and they agreed to help him.

8 (1Ki 4:18; 2Sa 20:25) But Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada

and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei and David's mighty men

did not join Adonijah.

9 (2Sa 17:17) Adonijah slaughtered sheep and oxen and fat cattle

by the Stone of Zoheleth, which is by En Rogel, and invited all his brothers,

the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants.

10 (2Sa 12:24) But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah,

the mighty men, or his brother Solomon.

11 (2Sa 3:4) Therefore Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon,

saying, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns

and David our lord does not know it?

12 Now please come and let me give you some advice, so that you may save

your own life as well as that of your son Solomon.

13 (1Ki 1:30; 1:17) Go to King David and say to him, 'Did not you, my lord,

O king, swear to your handmaid, saying: Assuredly Solomon your son

shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

Why then does Adonijah reign?'

14 Then while you are still there talking with the king, I will come in

and confirm your words."

15 So Bathsheba went to the king's chamber. Now the king was very old,

and Abishag the Shunammite ministered to him.

16 Bathsheba bowed and prostrated herself before the king.

And the king said, "What do you want?"

17 (1Ki 1:13; 1:30) And she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the Lord

your God to your handmaid, saying: Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign

after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

18 (1Ki 1:24) But Adonijah reigns, and now, my lord, O king, you are unaware.

19 He has slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance and has invited

all the sons of the king and Abiathar the priest and Joab the commander

of the army, but he has not invited your servant Solomon.

20 And you, my lord, O king, all the eyes of Israel are upon you that you

should tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 (Dt 31:16; 1Ki 2:10) Otherwise it shall be that when my lord the king

sleeps with his fathers, I and my son Solomon shall be considered offenders."

22 While she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

23 The king was told, "Nathan the prophet is here," and when he entered

the king's presence, he bowed himself before the king with his face

to the ground.

24 Nathan said, "My lord, O king, have you said, 'Adonijah shall reign

after me, and he shall sit upon my throne'?

25 (1Sa 10:24; 1Ki 1:9) For he has gone down this day and has slain oxen,

fat cattle, and sheep in abundance and has invited all the king's sons,

the commanders of the guard, and Abiathar the priest, and they eat and drink

with him, saying, 'God save King Adonijah!'

26 (1Ki 1:8; 1:10) But he has not invited me, your servant,

or Zadok the priest or Benaiah the son of Jehoiada or your servant Solomon.

27 Is this thing done by my lord the king, and you have not let your servants

know who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?"



Solomon Becomes King



1Ch 29:21-25



28 Then King David answered and said, "Call Bathsheba to me."

And she came into the king's presence and stood before the king.

29 (2Sa 4:9) The king vowed, "As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my soul

out of all distress,

30 (1Ki 1:13; 1:17) even as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying,

'Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon

my throne in my stead,' even so will I certainly do this day."

31 (Da 2:4; 3:9( Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the ground

in reverence to the king and said, "Let my lord King David live forever."

32 (1Ki 1:8) King David said, "Call Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet,

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada for me." So they came before the king.

33 (2Ch 32:30; 1Ki 1:38) And the king said to them, "Take with you

the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon

my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon.

34 (1Sa 10:1; 2Sa 15:10) And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet

there anoint him king over Israel, and blow the trumpet

and say, 'God save King Solomon!'

35 Then you shall come up after him. And he shall come and sit on my throne,

for he will be king in my place as I have appointed him to be ruler

over Israel and over Judah."

36 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, "Amen!

May the Lord, the God of my lord the king, also say so!

37 (1Sa 20:13; 1Ki 1:47) As the Lord has been with my lord the king,

may He also be with Solomon and make his throne greater than the throne

of my lord King David."

38 (2Sa 8:18; 1Ki 1:8) So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet,

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Kerethites and the Pelethites went down

and had Solomon ride on King David's mule and brought him to Gihon.

39 (Ps 89:20; 1Sa 10:24) Zadok the priest took a horn of oil

out of the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. Then they blew the trumpet,

and all the people said, "God save King Solomon!"

40 All the people came up to see him and played flutes and greatly rejoiced,

so that the earth shook at the sound.

41 Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard the commotion

as they were finishing their meal, and when Joab heard the sound

of the trumpet, he said, "Why is the city so loud and in an uproar?"

42 (2Sa 15:36; 17:17) While he was speaking, Jonathan the son of Abiathar

the priest came. Adonijah said to him, "Come in, for you are a valiant man

and bring good tidings."

43 Jonathan answered Adonijah, saying, "Surely our lord King David

has made Solomon king.

44 The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet,

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Kerethites, and the Pelethites.

And they had him ride on the king's mule.

45 (1Ki 1:40) And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him

king in Gihon, and they have come up from their rejoicing, so that the city

is in an uproar. This is the noise that you heard.

46 (1Ch 29:23) Also Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom.

47 (Ge 47:31; 1Ki 1:37) Moreover, the king's servants came to bless our lord

King David, saying, 'May God make the name of Solomon better than your name

and make his throne greater than your throne.' And the king bowed himself upon

the bed.

48 (1Ki 3:6; Ps 132:11-12) The king also said, 'Blessed be the Lord God

of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne this day so that I could

see with my own eyes.' "

49 All the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid and rose up

and went on their way.

50 (1Ki 2:28) Adonijah feared Solomon. So he got up and went to the altar

and held on to its horns.

51 Then Solomon was told, "Adonijah fears King Solomon, for he has caught

hold of the horns on the altar, saying 'Let King Solomon swear to me today

that he will not slay his servant with the sword.'"

52 (1Sa 14:45; 2Sa 14:11) And Solomon said, "If he will show himself

a worthy man, not one of his hairs will fall to the ground, but if wickedness

is found in him, he shall die."

53 So King Solomon sent for him, and they brought him down from the altar,

and he came and bowed himself to King Solomon. And Solomon said to him,

"Go to your house."

David's Successor



5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king:

and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou

done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after

Absalom.

7 And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest:

and they following Adonijah helped him.

8 But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada,

nd Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged

to David, were not with Adonijah.

9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth,

which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons,

and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

10 but Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men,

and Solomon his brother, he called not.

11 Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath-sheba the mother of Solomon,

saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign,

and David our lord knoweth it not?

12 Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou

mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

13 Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou,

my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon

thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

why then doth Adonijah reign?

14 Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king,

I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.

15 And Bath-sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king

was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.

16 And Bath-sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king

said, What wouldest thou?

17 And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God

unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign

after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

18 And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king,

thou knowest it not:

19 and he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance,

and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest,

and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.

20 And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou

shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

21 Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep

with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

22 And, lo, while she yet talked with the king,

Nathan the prophet also came in.

23 And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet.

And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before

the king with his face to the ground.

24 And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign

after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

25 For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle

and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons,

and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest;

and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.

26 But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son

of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.

27 Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto

thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

28 Then king David answered and said, Call me Bath-sheba. And she came into

the king's presence, and stood before the king.

29 And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my

soul out of all distress,

30 even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly

Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne

in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

31 Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the earth,

and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

32 And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet,

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

33 The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord,

and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down

to Gihon:

34 and let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king

over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.

35 Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne;

for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler

over Israel and over Judah.

36 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered

the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

37 As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon,

and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

38 So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son

and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

39 And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle,

and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said,

God save king Solomon.

40 And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes,

and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

41 And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had

made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said,

Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

42 And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest

came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man,

and bringest good tidings.

43 And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David

hath made Solomon king.

44 And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet,

and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites,

and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule:

45 and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king

in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city

rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

46 And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.

47 And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying,

God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater

than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

48 And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel,

which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.

49 And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up,

and went every man his way.

50 And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught

hold on the horns of the altar.

51 And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon:

for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king

Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

52 And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an

hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him,

he shall die.

53 So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar.

And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him,

Go to thine house.



1 Chronicles 29:23-25



23 (1Ki 2:12; 1Ch 28:5) Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord

as king instead of David his father, and he prospered,

and all Israel obeyed him.

24 All the leaders and the mighty men, and also the sons of King David,

pledged their allegiance to King Solomon.

25 (1Ki 3:13; 2Ch 1:1) The Lord highly exalted Solomon in the sight

of all Israel and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had never been

on any king in Israel before him.



23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David

his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.

24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise

of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.

25 And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel,

and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king

before him in Israel.

David's Charge to Solomon



1Ch 29:26-28



1 (Ge 47:29; Dt 31:14) Now it was coming close to the day of David's death,

and he gave his son Solomon a charge, saying:

2 (Jos 23:14; 1:6-7) "I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong,

and show yourself to be a man.

3 (Dt 29:9; 17:18-20) And keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking

in His ways, keeping His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, a

nd His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses,

that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn,

4 (2Sa 7:25; 1Ki 8:25) that the Lord may carry out His word that He spoke

concerning me, saying, 'If your children take heed to their way,

to walk before Me in faithfulness with all their hearts

and with all their souls,

you shall not fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.'

5 (2Sa 3:27; 20:10) "Moreover, you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did

to me, what he did to the two commanders of the army of Israel, to Abner

the son of Ner and to Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed, shedding

the blood of war in a time of peace. He spilled their blood on the belt

that was around his waist and on the shoes of his feet.

6 (1Ki 2:9) Do the right thing according to your wisdom,

and do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.

7 (2Sa 9:7; 9:10) "But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite,

and let them eat at your table, for with such loyalty they supported me

when I fled from your brother Absalom.

8 (2Sa 16:5-8) "There is also with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite

from Bahurim, who cursed me with a grievous curse in the day when I went to

Mahanaim. But when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him

by the Lord, saying, 'I will not put you to death with the sword.'

9 (1Ki 2:6; Ge 42:38) Now therefore do not hold him guiltless,

for you are a wise man and know what you ought to do to him.

Bring his gray head down to the grave with blood."

10 (Ac 2:29; 13:36) So David slept with his fathers

and was buried in the City of David.

David's Charge to Solomon

1 Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon

his son, saying,

2 I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself

a man;

3 and keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep

his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies,

as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that

thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

4 that the LORD may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying,

If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all

their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he)

a man on the throne of Israel.

5 Moreover thou knowest also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what

he did to the two captains of the hosts of Israel, unto Abner the son of Ner,

and unto Amasa the son of Jether, whom he slew, and shed the blood of war in

peace, and put the blood of war upon his girdle that was about his loins,

and in his shoes that were on his feet.

6 Do therefore according to thy wisdom, and let not his hoar head go down

to the grave in peace.

7 But shew kindness unto the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be

of those that eat at thy table: for so they came to me when I fled because

The Death of David

26 (1Ch 18:14) Now David son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.

In Hebron, he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem

he was king thirty-three years.

28 (Ge 15:15; 1Ch 23:1) So he died at a good old age, full of days, riches,

and honor. And Solomon his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles 1:1



Solomon Seeks Wisdom



1 (1Ch 29:25; 1Ki 2:12) Now Solomon the son of David strengthened himself

over his kingdom, and the Lord his God was with him and made Solomon

exceedingly great.



1 And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom,

and the LORD his God was with him, and magnified him exceedingly.

The Throne of Solomon Established



13 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba

the mother of Solomon. And she said, "Do you come in peace?"

And he said, "I come peaceably."

14Then he said, "I have something to say to you."

And she said, "Speak."

15 (1Ki 1:5; 1:25) He said, "You know that the kingdom was mine and that all

Israel viewed me as the king. However, the kingdom has become my brother's,

for it was given to him by the Lord.

16 And now I ask one petition of you; do not deny me."

She said to him, "Keep speaking."

17 And he said, "Please speak to Solomon the king, for he will not refuse you,

that he may give me Abishag the Shunammite as a wife."

18 Bathsheba said, "Very well, I will speak to the king on your behalf."

19 (Ps 45:9) So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak to him on behalf

of Adonijah. The king rose up to meet her and bowed to her. Then he sat down

on his throne and had a seat placed at his right hand for her to sit upon.

20 Then she said, "I desire one small petition of you. Please do not deny me."

And the king said to her, "Ask, my mother, for I will not refuse you."

21 She said, "Let Abishag the Shunammite be given as a wife to

Adonijah your brother."

22 (1Ch 3:2) King Solomon answered his mother, "Now why do you ask Abishag

the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also, for he is my elder

brother. Ask not only for him, but also for Abiathar the priest,

and for Joab the son of Zeruiah."

23 (Ru 1:17) Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, "May God do so to me

and more also if this word does not cost Adonijah his life.

24 (1Ch 22:10) Now therefore as the Lord lives, who has established me

and set me on the throne of David my father and who has made me

a house as He promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day."

25 (2Sa 8:18) So King Solomon dispatched Benaiah the son of Jehoiada,

and he executed him.

26 (Jos 21:18; 1Sa 22:20-23) The king said to Abiathar the priest,

"Go to Anathoth, to your own fields, for you are worthy of death.

But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore

the ark of the Lord God before David my father and because you shared

in all the hardships my father endured."

27 (1Sa 2:27-36) So Solomon expelled Abiathar from being priest to the Lord,

thus fulfilling the word of the Lord that He had spoken concerning

the house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 (1Ki 1:7; 1:50) Then word came to Joab, for Joab had followed Adonijah,

though he did not support Absalom. And Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord

and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

29 (1Ki 2:25; Ex 21:14) King Solomon was told that Joab had fled

to the tabernacle of the Lord and was by the altar. Then Solomon sent

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, "Go and execute him."

30 So Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the Lord and said to him,

"Thus says the king, 'Come forth.' "

And he said, "No, I will die here."

And Benaiah told the king all Joab said.

31 (Nu 35:33; Dt 21:8-9) The king said to him, "Do as he has said, strike him

down and bury him, and thus take away from me and my father's house the guilt

for the blood Joab shed without cause.

32 (Jdg 9:24; 2Ch 21:13) The Lord shall return his blood upon his own head,

for he attacked two men more righteous and better than he-Abner

the son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether,

commander of the army of Judah-and killed them with the sword

when my father David was unaware.

33 (1Ki 2:32) Therefore their blood shall return upon the head of Joab

and upon the head of his seed forever, but upon David and upon his seed

and upon his house and upon his throne

shall the peace of the Lord rest forever."

34 (Jos 15:61; 1Ki 2:25) So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up

and attacked and killed him, and he was buried in his own house

in the wilderness.

35 (1Ki 2:27; 4:4) The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada over the army

in place of Joab and put Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar.

36 The king sent and called for Shimei and said to him, "Build a house

for yourself in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and never leave the city.

37 (2Sa 1:16; 15:23) For on the day you go out and pass over

the Kidron Valley, know for certain that you will surely die.

Your blood shall be on your own head."

38 Shimei said to the king, "What you say is good. As my lord the king has

said, so will your servant do." And Shimei lived in Jerusalem many days.

39 It came about that at the end of three years, two servants of Shimei

ran away to Achish son of Maakah king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying,

"Your servants are in Gath."

40 Shimei arose, saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to Achish

to look for his servants. And Shimei went and brought his servants from Gath.

41 Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath

and had returned.

42 The king sent and called for Shimei and said to him, "Did I not make you

swear by the Lord and warned you, saying, 'Know for certain that on the day

you go out and walk abroad anywhere, you shall surely die'?

And you said to me, 'What you say is good; I will obey.'

43 Why then have you not kept the oath of the Lord

and the commandment that I gave you?"

44 (2Sa 16:5-13; 1Sa 25:39) The king also said to Shimei, "You know

all the wickedness in your heart and what you did to David my father.

Therefore the Lord shall return your wickedness on your own head.

45 (Pr 25:5) But King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David

shall be established before the Lord forever."

46 (1Ki 2:12; 2Ch 1:1) So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada,

who went out and attacked him so that he died.

And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.

14 He said moreover, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And she said, Say on.

15 And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel

set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned

about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the LORD.

16 And now I ask one petition of thee, deny me not. And she said unto him,

Say on.

17 And he said, Speak, I pray thee, unto Solomon the king, (for he will not

say thee nay,) that he give me Abishag the Shunammite to wife.

18 And Bath-sheba said, Well; I will speak for thee unto the king.

19 Bath-sheba therefore went unto king Solomon, to speak unto him

for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her, and bowed himself unto her,

and sat down on his throne, and caused a seat to be set for the king's

mother; and she sat on his right hand.

20 Then she said, I desire one small petition of thee; I pray thee, say me

not nay. And the king said unto her, Ask on, my mother: for I will not say

thee nay.

21 And she said, Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah thy brother

to wife.

22 And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother, And why dost thou ask

Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is

mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab

the son of Zeruiah.

23 Then king Solomon sware by the LORD, saying, God do so to me, and more

also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

24 Now therefore, as the LORD liveth, which hath established me, and set me

on the throne of David my father, and who hath made me an house,

as he promised, Adonijah shall be put to death this day.

25 And king Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada;

and he fell upon him that he died.

26 And unto Abiathar the priest said the king, Get thee to Anathoth,

unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not

at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the

Lord GOD before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted

in all wherein my father was afflicted.

27 So Solomon thrust out Abiathar from being priest unto the LORD; that

he might fulfil the word of the LORD, which he spake concerning the

house of Eli in Shiloh.

28 Then tidings came to Joab: for Joab had turned after Adonijah, though

he turned not after Absalom. And Joab fled unto the tabernacle of the LORD,

and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

29 And it was told king Solomon that Joab was fled unto the tabernacle

of the LORD; and, behold, he is by the altar. Then Solomon sent Benaiah

the son of Jehoiada, saying, Go, fall upon him.

30 And Benaiah came to the tabernacle of the LORD, and said unto him,

Thus saith the king, Come forth. And he said, Nay; but I will die here.

And Benaiah brought the king word again, saying, Thus said Joab,

and thus he answered me.

31 And the king said unto him, Do as he hath said, and fall upon him,

and bury him; that thou mayest take away the innocent blood, which Joab

shed, from me, and from the house of my father.

32 And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon

two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword,

my father David not knowing thereof, to wit, Abner the son of Ner,

captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether,

captain of the host of Judah.

33 Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab, and upon

the head of his seed for ever: but upon David, and upon his seed,

and upon his house, and upon his throne, shall there be peace for ever

from the LORD.

34 So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and slew him:

and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

35 And the king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his room over the host:

and Zadok the priest did the king put in the room of Abiathar.

36 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee

an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither.

37 For it shall be, that on the day thou goest out, and passest over the brook

Kidron, thou shalt know for certain that thou shalt surely die: thy blood

shall be upon thine own head.

38 And Shimei said unto the king, The saying is good: as my lord the king

hath said, so will thy servant do. And Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days.

39 And it came to pass at the end of three years, that two of the servants

of Shimei ran away unto Achish son of Maachah king of Gath. And they told

Shimei, saying, Behold, thy servants be in Gath.

40 And Shimei arose, and saddled his ass, and went to Gath to Achish

to seek his servants: and Shimei went, and brought his servants from Gath.

41 And it was told Solomon that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath,

and was come again.

42 And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him,

Did I not make thee to swear by the LORD, and protested unto thee,

saying, Know for a certain, on the day thou goest out, and walkest

abroad any whither, that thou shalt surely die? and thou saidst unto me,

The word that I have heard is good.

43 Why then hast thou not kept the oath of the LORD,

and the commandment that I have charged thee with?

44 The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness

which thine heart is privy to, that thou didst to David my father:

therefore the LORD shall return thy wickedness upon thine own head;

45 and king Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall

be established before the LORD for ever.

46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out,

and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established

in the hand of Solomon.



Psalms 37

A Psalm of David.



1 Do not fret because of evildoers,

nor be jealous of those who do injustice.



2 (Ps 63:1; 84:2) For they will quickly wither like the grass,

and fade like the green herbs.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Trust in the Lord, and do good;

dwell in the land, and practice faithfulness.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) Delight yourself in the Lord,

and He will give you the desires of your heart.

5 (Ps 42:11; 43:5) Commit your way to the Lord;

trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.

6 (2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8-9) He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,

and your judgment as the noonday.

7 (Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3) Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him;

do not fret because of those who prosper in their way,

because of those who make wicked schemes.

8 (Job 35:10; Ps 63:6) Let go of anger, and forsake wrath;

do not fret-it surely leads to evil deeds.

9 (Ps 38:6; 18:2) For evildoers will be cut off,

but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the earth.

you will look diligently for their place, and it will not be.

for He sees that his day is coming.

and to slay those on the upright path.

15 Their sword will enter into their own heart,

and their bows will be broken.

16 Better is a little that the righteous has

than the abundance of many wicked.

17 For the arms of the wicked will be broken,

but the Lord supports the righteous.

18 The Lord knows the days of people of integrity,

and their inheritance will be forever.

19 They will not be ashamed in the evil time,

and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.

20 But the wicked will perish,

and the enemies of the Lord will be like the glory of pastures;

they will waste away, in smoke they will waste away.

21 The wicked borrows and does not repay,

but the righteous is gracious and gives.

22 For those who are blessed of Him will inherit the earth,

but those who are cursed of Him will be cut off.

23 The steps of a man are made firm by the Lord;

He delights in his way.

24 Though he falls, he will not be hurled down,

for the Lord supports him with His hand.

25 I have been young, and now am old;

yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,

nor their offspring begging bread.

26 The righteous are gracious and lend,

and their offspring are a source of blessing.

27 Depart from evil and do good,

and abide forevermore.

28 For the Lord loves justice,

and does not forsake His saints;

they are preserved forever,

but the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.

29 The righteous will inherit the land,

and dwell on it forever.

30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,

and their tongue speaks justice.

31 The law of their God is in their heart;

none of their steps will slip.

32 The wicked watch the righteous,

and seek to kill them.

33 The Lord will not forsake them to their hand,

nor condemn them when they are judged.

34 Hope in the Lord,

and keep His way,

and He will exalt you to inherit the land;

when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

35 I have seen the wicked in great power,

and spreading himself like a luxuriant tree.

36 Yet he passed away, and he was not;

I sought him, but he could not be found.

37 Mark the blameless man, and consider the upright,

for the end of that man is peace.

38 But the transgressors will be destroyed together;

the end of the wicked is to be cut off.

39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord;

He is their refuge in the time of distress.

40 The Lord will help them and deliver them;

He will deliver them from the wicked,

and save them, because they take refuge in Him.

Ps 31:1-4

1 In You, O Lord, I seek refuge;

incline Your ear to me and save me.

3 (Ps 79:10; 80:5) Be my rock of refuge

to enter continually;

You have given commandment to save me;

for You are my rock and my stronghold.

4 (Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8) Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,

out of the hand of the unjust and cruel man.

When my friends Al and Kathy Schiffer flew their iconic, World War II-era

airplane to airshows, it was the reactions of the elderly war veterans

that meant the most to them. They would come by so they could talk about

the wars they served in and the airplanes they flew. Most of their battle

stories were told with tears in their eyes. Many have said that the best

news they received while serving their country were the words,

"The war is over, boys. It's time to go home."



These words from an earlier generation relate to the war believers

in Jesus are engaged in—our good fight of faith against the devil,

the enemy of our souls. The apostle Peter warned us:

"Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking

for someone to devour." He tempts us in various ways and uses

discouragement in suffering and persecution to try to draw us away

from our faith in Jesus. Peter challenged his first readers and us

today to "be alert and of sober mind" (1 Peter 5:8).

We depend on the Holy Spirit so we won't let the enemy cause

us to surrender the fight and bring us down.



We know that one day Jesus will return. When He comes, His words

will have an effect similar to that felt by wartime soldiers,

bringing tears to our eyes and joy to our hearts:

"The war is over, children. It's time to go Home."

When we truly see God's immeasurable gift in accepting us as him own,

we also will "greatly rejoice" in the Lord. He, the eternal god,

Creator of the universe, desires to be united with us, as a husband

desires his wife! God does not simply accept us grudgingly,

reminding us of our unworthiness to be with him. Rather, he celebrates

with unrestrained joy his oneness in Spirit with those he calls his own.

And we, having been fully forgiven

and set free from sin, can rejoice unashamedly as well.

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.



For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

with Peter were astonished, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been

poured out even on the Gentiles.

One evening, I noticed neat rows of soil in a vacant lot near my home.

Each row contained small green leaves with tiny buds peeking out.

The next morning, I stopped in my tracks when I saw a patch

of beautiful red tulips sprouting in the lot.



The previous fall, a group had planted one hundred thousand bulbs in empty

lots throughout the South Side of Chicago. They chose red to symbolise how

redlining (lending discrimination by banks) had impacted neighbourhoods

where primarily minorities lived. The tulips symbolized the houses

that could have been in those lots.



God's people have endured many challenges-from being exiled from their

homelands to discrimination like redlining. Yet, we can still find hope.

Isaiah reminds Israel during a time of exile that God would not leave them.

He'd give them a "crown of beauty" in place of ashes. Even the poor would

receive "good news" (61:1). God promised to exchange despairing spirits

with a "garment of praise." All of these images evoke His splendour

and would bring joy to the people, who would now be "oaks of righteousness"

instead of dejected exiles (v. 3).



Those tulips also show that God can create splendour from dirt

and discrimination. I look forward to seeing the tulips each spring,

and more importantly renewed hope in my neighborhood and other communities.

In the old Days of Television Western, we could always tell who the enemy was.

The bad guys wore black hats; the evil villain had a scar across

his cheek or a patch over one eye. But real life is

not quite so simple . Enemies come in many forms, and often are not easy to

recognise. Sin is an enemy; even those we love can seek

to undermine our faith;

modern materialism and distorted values lead us away from biblical principles.

These enemies may not seek our death in a physical sense,

but their influence results in spiritual death or, at the very least,

immaturity.

Yet God promises to rescue us from our enemies. David describes the Lord as a

"rock", a "shield", a "stronghold", and a "refuge". God provides a stable

foundation for our faith; he products us from the attacks of the enemy;

he offers a place of rest in battle.

Our battles are usually not physical ones, but rather spiritual

and emotional wars.

We struggle with difficult relationships, the burdens of the past,

the subtle accusations of the devil.

But these enemies can be overcome. David says,

"I call to the Lord, who is worthy of praise" .

When we turn to the Lord, trust his Word, acknowledge his

worthiness, we put our own problems and difficulties in perspective.

We see that God is able to rescue us, and has promised to do so.

And as we respond to his grace by focusing

on him, we abandon trust in ourselves and allow him to do what he promised.

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that

the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most

Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching

from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly

resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques

are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools

are starting.

And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their

advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,

the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour

brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of

"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of

receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town

reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.

Agree in prayer for:



- net network leaders - the need is great

- the development of network leadership teams

- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals

whom God is calling into this ministry.

- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising

believers

- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas

- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love

towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.



For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.



You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"



Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:



- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

"My name is Kam. I'm 29 years of age, and I grew up Sikh. As a teenager,

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

cannabis. I didn't know how to stop or how to get help.



Then a friend invited me to church. As I spent time with Christians

David's Plans for the Temple



1(1Ch 11:10-47; 23:2) Now David assembled all the leaders of Israel

in Jerusalem: the leaders of the tribes, the officers of the divisions

of those ministering to the king, the captains of thousands and the captains

of hundreds, the stewards over all the property and livestock of the king

and his sons with the eunuchs and the fighting men and all the brave warriors.

2 (Ps 99:5; Isa 66:1) So King David rose to his feet and said,

"Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house

of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, a footstool for the feet of

our God, so I prepared to build it.

My college friend Bill Tobias has served as a missionary on a Pacific island

for many years. He tells the story about a young man who left his hometown

to seek his fortune. But a friend took him to church where he heard

the good news Jesus offers, and he trusted Christ as his Savior.



The young man wanted to take the gospel to his people who were

"steeped in sorcery," so he looked for a missionary to reach them.

But the missionary told him to simply

"go tell them what God did for you" (see Mark 5:19). And that's what he did.

Several people in his hometown received Jesus, but the biggest breakthrough

came when the town's witch doctor realised that Christ was

"the way and the truth and the life" (John 14:6). After he put his faith in

Jesus, he told the whole town about Him. Within four years, the witness of

one young man had led to the establishment of seven churches in the region.



In 2 Corinthians, Paul sets forth a clear plan for introducing the gospel

to those who don't yet know Christ-and it aligns with what that missionary

told the young believer in Jesus. We are to be "Christ's ambassadors"-

His representatives "as though God were making his appeal through us" (5:20).

Every believer has a unique story to tell of how Jesus made them

"a new creation . . . who reconciled" them to God (vv. 17-18 nasb).

Let's tell others what He's done for us.

When a new highway is being constructed, the roads crew work hard

in preparing for the new surface to be laid. Giant bulldozers cut through

the hillsides, moving earth, leveling, filling, evening the path out where

the roadway will run. When the work is first begun, if often looks like chaos:

and even after the highway begins to take shape, the land is still ugly,

scarred by the unsightly gashes cut through the landscape. Yet after

the work is completed and the grass and trees are replanted, we forget

the temporary upheaval and see only the

beauty of the land and the convenience of the new roadway.

In Luke 3:5-6, John the Baptist presents a prophecy of the coming of Christ,

a prophecy quoted from Isaiah 40:3-5 . The prophecy speaks of the preparation

of the world for the coming Messiah, but is also applies to the preparation

of the individual heart to receive him.

Sometimes, the Holy Spirit must do major work in our hearts to prepare us for

the coming of Christ into our live. Like a bulldozer, he brings down the

mountains of pride in our lives. He fill the empty places , corrects

the crooked, grades down the rough edges of our hearts.

Often this is not pleasant work. We prefer to maintain the rugged landscape

of Self, and we do not like the ugly scars that are left after the bulldozer

has done its job.

But if we submit to the Spirit's "Construction work" in us, the way will be

paved for the Lord to enter into our lives, and others will see in us,

the way be paved for the Lord to enter into our lives, and other will see

in us the glory and salvation of our God.

Ontario has 55% of all of Canada's entire Muslim population. This means that

the whole of the Muslim world is represented somewhere in this province. Most

Muslims are understandably located along the southern border stretching

from Windsor eastward all the way up to Ottawa. Yet Muslims are constantly

resettling in more and more suburban and even small towns of Ontario. Mosques

are springing up, and where there are enough gathered, Islamic schools

are starting.

And they're not complacent, either. Many Islamic leaders are energetic in their

advancement of Islam in Canadian society. Recently in the Niagara Region,

the local mosque distributed via Canada Post as many as 50000 full-colour

brochures on Islam. An that mosque's Facebook page proudly show pictures of

"reverts", or white Canadians who have converted to Islam as a result of

receiving the flier and engaging with the mosque community. Another town

reports Muslims going door-to-door evangelism.

Agree in prayer for:



- net network leaders - the need is great

- the development of network leadership teams

- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals

whom God is calling into this ministry.

- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising

believers

- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas

- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love

towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.

When the new moon is sighted it marks the beginning of t he new Islamic month

and Eid al-Fitr, the "Festival of Breaking the Fast", will start! After 30 days

of fasting, the Eid celebration at the end of Ramadan is a joyful time that

usually lasts about 3 days. Muslims will buy new clothes, exchange gifts and,

of course, enjoy special foods. In Muslim-majority nations, the streets may be

decorated and festivals will be held.



For many Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr begins with communal prayers at daybreak and the

distribution of money (zakat) to the poor, which is one of the 5 pillars of

Islam.



You can greet Muslim friends during this time by saying "Eid Mubarak",

which means Blessed Eid!"



Ramadan is over for this year, but you can continue to pray for Muslims you

know, and Muslims around the world:



- Despite the unsettling developments in our world today that involve actions

in the name of Islam, there is at the same time a largely untold story about

unprecedented movement to Christ among Muslims. There have been more such

movements of thousands or more new disciples among Muslims in the last three

decades or so than in all the previous history of Christian Muslim

relationships! Pray for this momentum to continue.

Acts 2:12-17 : 17 "In the last days it shall be," says God,

"that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh;

your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.

18 Even on My menservants and maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

19 And I will show wonders in heaven above and signs on the earth below:

blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness,

and the moon into blood, before that great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

I struggled with depression, brokenness, and addiction to

Agree in prayer for Ontario:



- get network leaders - the need is great

- the development of network leadership teams

- good connections with local pastors, congregations and individuals

whom God is calling into this ministry.

- wisdom facilitating outreach and training activities for mobilising

believers

- new full and part-time workers among Muslims throughout all these areas

- for pastors and churches to respond not in fear, but full of faith and love

towards Muslims, sharing Jesus with them.



- Pray for opportunities to show the love of Christ to Muslims around you

- Pray for, and offer generous hospitality to, those you know who are serving

Christ among Muslim people -

Romans 12:13 "contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality."

- When you gather with fellow believers, remember to pray for Muslims

throughout the year and encourage them to also participate in 30 Days!
