Living Counter-Cultural - Prayer



1 Peter 2:11-12



Live as Servants of God



11 (Jas 4:1; Lev 25:23) Dearly beloved, I implore you as aliens and refugees,

abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul.

12 (Mt 5:16; 1Pe 3:16) Live your lives honorably among the Gentiles, so that

though they speak against you as evildoers, they shall see your good works

and thereby glorify God in the day of visitation.



[11] Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from

fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

[12] Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they

speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they

shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.



The Lord's Prayer

A) From Performance to presence.



5 (Mt 6:2; 6:16; Mk 11:25) "When you pray, you shall not be like

the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues

and on the street corners that they may be seen by men.

Truly I say to you, they have their reward.

6 (2Ki 4:33; Isa 26:20) But you, when you pray, enter your closet,

and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret.

And your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

[5] And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they

love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets,

that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

[6] But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast

shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which

seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.



B) From manipulatin to trust.



7 (1Ki 18:26-29; Mt 6:32) But when you pray, do not use vain repetitions,

as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their much

speaking.

8 (Mt 6:32; Ps 38:9 ) Do not be like them, for your Father knows

what things you have need of before you ask Him.

[7] But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they

think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

[8] Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things

ye have need of, before ye ask him.



C) From self-reliance to God Centred alignment.



9 "Therefore pray in this manner:

Our Father who is in heaven,

hallowed be Your name.

10 (Mt 3:2; 4:17) Your kingdom come;

Your will be done

on earth, as it is in heaven.

[9] After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven,

Hallowed be thy name.

[10] Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.



D) From scarcity to daily dependence



11 (Pr 30:8; Isa 33:16) Give us this day our daily bread.

E) FRom hidden debt to heling release



12 (Ex 34:7; Ps 32:1) And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors.

14 (Mk 11:25; Eph 4:32) For if you forgive men for their sins,

your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

15 (Mt 18:35)But if you do not forgive men for their sins,

neither will your Father forgive your sins.

F) From self-reliance to daily protection



13 (1Co 10:13; Jn 17:15) And lead us not into temptation,

Rewards for Obedience



1 (Lev 19:4; Ex 23:24; 20:4 - 5) You shall not make for yourselves idols;

neither set up a carved image nor a standing stone, nor shall you set up

any sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it, for I am the Lord your God.

2 (Lev 19:30) You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary:

I am the Lord.

3 (Dt 28:1-14; 11:13-15) If you walk in My statutes and keep My commandments

and do them,

4 (Ps 67:6; 85:12) then I will give you rain in due season,

and the land shall yield its increase, and the trees of the field shall yield

their fruit.

It is estimated that Calgary has 82000 Muslims and Edmonton another 50000 .

Alberta may have a total as high as 195240 today.

Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor. It's

become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.

Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the largest group

coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries

such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.

Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,

emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still

continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our

Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom

they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.



Please join us in praying for:

- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.

- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to

Muslim-background believers.

- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially

in their faith and the Church.

- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their

not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.

- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.

- for current and new workers among Muslims in these growing Muslim

in these growing Muslim population centres.

Pray for Yemeni Women



In her dust-choked city in Yemen, under the watchful eyes of her in-laws,

Samira lived a life shaped by obedience: to faith, to her husband, to fear.

But with her husband away in the militia, fighting in Yemen's ongoing civil

war, she felt a glimmer of hope because of her phone.



When her children were tucked in around her and asleep, she kept returning to

websites she had found that offered such hope in her own language. With time,

she learned they were from the Bible. The words didn't condemn - they

comforted.



"Come to Me, all who are weary."



Samira found a way to ask questions, and her certainty grew that Jesus was

indeed the Way, the Truth and the Life. She explains that, "what Jesus did,

no one else can do. He raised the dead, healed the sick, and forgave sinners.

This is because he is God manifest in the flesh. Therefore, I followed Him

because there is no salvation apart from Jesus. To Him be all the glory!"



Her phone became a place of fellowship as she learned of others in her city

who were also following Jesus. At first, she only connected with others via

chat, sharing scriptures and prayers. Then several believers found a way to

meet together, in various places and on different days.

Samira is concerned. She knows her in-laws have seen a change in her and are

suspicious. When they follow her, she changes direction and goes to her

parents' house where she quietly and carefully shares the stories of Jesus

with her brother.



How to Pray



Pray for God to intervene in the terrible humanitarian crisis that Yemen

has endured.



Pray for God's Word to reach Yemeni women who have so little access

to the Gospel.



Ask for protection over the tiny, yet growing, Yemeni church.





My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

Conclusion:



Pray to the Lord and pray to show mercy to the poor and the foreigner.



Pray to the Lord: "Dear Father, You know my scars and wounds,

my anger and grief. Please wrap me in Your goodness and mercy;

give me healing from hurts long past but not forgotten."



Pray to the Lord and pray to know Him as your Support System.



Pray to the Lord and pray to be a good Harvester.



Pray to the Lord and pray for purification from Sin.

Author Richard Mouw tells of a Black theologian from South Africa who

struggled with dark memories of life under apartheid. Mouw wrote, "He told a

story about an African child whose teacher asked her to define 'memory.'

After thinking about it, the child said, 'Memory is that thing that helps me

to forget.'" Out of the mouths of babes! Her past held much she didn't want

to recall, so she wanted to remember the good things.



Many carry the scars of terrible, seemingly unforgettable things. But that

child's wisdom offers hope. If we learn to remember better things, those

memories can strengthen us to move forward from our painful past. In Psalm 42,

the psalmist feels like a deer running for its life. However, he also says,

"These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house

of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise

among the festive throng" (v. 4).



The singer's memories of worshiping God encouraged him to praise,

even in the midst of pain. "Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed

within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Saviour a

nd my God" (v. 5). Remembering who our God is—and that we are His - can help

us move beyond the painful past we can't forget.

How will you allow the God of all hope to move you beyond them?

my anger and grief. Please wrap me in Your goodness and mercy;

give me healing from hurts long past but not forgotten.

Misty was only 4 when her parents divorced. Her dad moved away,

and the following summer she went with her grandparents to visit him

in his new apartment. In the swimming pool one afternoon, Grandpa stood

Misty on the side of the pool, held out his arm, and called, "Jump!"

But Misty, normally a little fish, suddenly seemed afraid of the water,

and stood trembling on the sidewalk shaking her head.

"Jump, Misty - I'll catch you!"

"Are you sure, Grandpa?"

"Of course I'm sure! Jump!"

But Misty wouldn't jump. Finally Grandpa, a bit irritated, said, "Misty, do

you think I Won't catch you? Do you think I'll just walk away?"

The tears spilled over, and Misty sobbed. "Daddy did!"

Human support systems often fail us. We disappoint those we love, and

are disappointed by them. People simply aren't there for us

when we need them most.

But God promises that with him things are different. He's always there,

always listening, always caring, always ready to support us.

"Underneath his everlasting arms".

Sometimes those arms reach out clothed in flesh, in the warm embrace

of a loved one. Sometimes they support us through the Word, sometimes through

the quiet peace that comes in prayer. Sometimes we are not aware of them

at all, but they still hold us up, supporting, surrounding, loving.

Underneath us are the everlasting arms.



Application



a) Have I ever felt abandoned by someone I loved and depended upon?



b) How have I experienced the faithfulness of God's "Everlasting arms"?



c) Now can this verse help me in times when I feel my supports have given way?

For he shall sell to you according to the number of years of crops.

Redemption of Property



23 (1Ch 29:15; Ps 39:12) The land shall not be permanently sold,

for the land is Mine. For you are foreigners and sojourners with

you shall grant a redemption for the land.

25 (Ru 2:20; 3:9) If your brother becomes poor and has sold

some of his possession, then his nearest redeemer will come

to redeem it, and buy back that which his brother sold.

26 If the man has none to redeem it, but he himself is able to redeem it,

27 then let him count the years since the sale and pay back the balance

to the man to whom he sold it, so that he may return to his property.

28 But if he is not able to restore it to himself,

then that which he sold shall remain in the hand of him who has bought it

until the Year of Jubilee, and in the Jubilee it shall be released,

and he shall return to his possession.

29 If a man sells a house in a walled city, then he may redeem

it within a year after it is sold, within a full year he may have

the right to buy it back.

30 If it is not redeemed within the time of a full year,

then the house that is in the walled city shall be given

permanently to him who bought it throughout his generations.

It shall not be returned in the Jubilee.

31 But the houses of the villages that have no wall around them

shall be counted as the fields of the land. They may be redeemed,

and they shall be returned in the Jubilee.

32 For the cities of the Levites, they may redeem at any time

the houses in the cities that they possess.

33 If a Levite purchases back the house that was sold in the city

of his possession, then it shall be returned in the Jubilee.

For the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession

among the children of Israel.

34 (Lev 25:23; Ac 4:36-37) But the fields of the land of their

cities may not be sold, for they are their perpetual possession.



[23] The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are

strangers and sojourners with me.

[24] And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for

the land.

[25] If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away some of his

possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem

that which his brother sold.

[26] And if the man have none to redeem it, and himself be able to redeem

it;

[27] Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the

overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his

possession.

[28] But if he be not able to restore it to him, then that which is sold

shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of

jubile: and in the jubile it shall go out, and he shall return unto his

possession.

[29] And if a man sell a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem

it within a whole year after it is sold; within a full year may he redeem

it.

[30] And if it be not redeemed within the space of a full year, then the

house that is in the walled city shall be established for ever to him that

bought it throughout his generations: it shall not go out in the jubile.

[31] But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them

shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and

they shall go out in the jubile.

[32] Notwithstanding the cities of the Levites, and the houses of the cities

of their possession, may the Levites redeem at any time.

[33] And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold, and

the city of his possession, shall go out in the year of jubile: for the

houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children

of Israel.

[34] But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is

their perpetual possession.



Helping the Poor



35 (Dt 15:7-8; Ps 37:26) If your brother becomes poor

and cannot maintain himself with you,

then you shall support him as if he were a foreigner or a sojourner,

so that he may live with you.

36 (Ex 22:25; Dt 23:19-20) Take no usury or interest from him;

but fear your God, so that your brother may live with you.

37 You shall not lend him your money at interest,

nor lend him your food for profit.

38 (Lev 11:45; 22:32-33) I am the Lord your God,

who brought you out of the land of Egypt,

to give you the land of Canaan and to be your God.



[35] And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then

thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that

he may live with thee.

[36] Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy

brother may live with thee.

[37] Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals

for increase.

[38] I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of

The Law About Slavery



39 (Ex 21:2; 1Ki 9:22; Lev 25:46) If your brother who dwells near you

becomes poor and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve

as a bondservant.

40 But as a hired servant and as a sojourner he shall be with you.

He shall serve you until the Year of Jubilee.

41 (Lev 25:28; Ex 21:3) And then he shall depart from you,

both he and his children with him,

and he shall return to his own family

and to the possession of his fathers.

42 (Lev 25:55; Ro 6:22) For they are My servants,

whom I brought out of the land of Egypt.

They shall not be sold as slaves.

but you shall fear your God.

LEVITICUS 24



The Tabernacle Lamps



Ex 27:20-21

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2 (Ex 27:20-21) Command the children of Israel that they bring

to you pure olive oil beaten for the lamp, to cause the lamps

to burn continually.

3 Outside the veil of the sanctuary,

in the tent of meeting, Aaron shall arrange it continually,

from the evening until the morning before the Lord.

It shall be a perpetual statute in your generations.

4 (Ex 31:8; 39:37) He shall arrange the lamps continually

on the pure gold lampstand before the Lord.



[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

[2] Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive

beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.

[3] Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the

congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before

the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.

[4] He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD

continually.



The Bread of the Tabernacle



5 (Ex 25:30; 40:23) You shall take wheat flour and bake twelve cakes.

Two-tenths of an ephah (Likely about 7 pounds, or 3.2 kilograms.)

shall be in each cake.

6 (1Ki 7:48; Ex 25:23–24) You shall set them in two rows, six in a row,

on the pure gold table before the Lord.

7 (Lev 2:2) You shall put pure frankincense on each row,

so that it may be on the bread for a memorial,

a food offering made by fire to the Lord.

8 (Nu 4:7; 2Ch 2:4) Every Sabbath he shall set it in order continually

before the Lord, with the portion taken from the children of Israel

by a perpetual covenant.

9 (Lev 8:31; Mt 12:4; Mk 2:26) It shall be for Aaron and his sons,

and they shall eat it in a holy place, for it is most holy to him

of the food offerings of the Lord made by fire by a perpetual statute.

The Punishment for Blasphemy



10 The son of an Israelite woman, whose father was an Egyptian,

went out among the children of Israel, and this son of the Israelite woman

and a man of Israel fought together in the camp.

11 (Ex 3:15; 18:22) And the Israelite woman's son blasphemed the name

of the Lord and cursed. And they brought him to Moses.

(His mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)

12 (Ex 18:15-16; Nu 15:34) And they put him in custody,

so that the words of the Lord might be shown to them.

13 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

14 (Dt 17:7; Lev 20:27) Bring outside the camp him who has cursed,

and let all who heard him lay their hands on his head,

and let the entire congregation stone him.

15 (Lev 5:1; Nu 9:13) You shall speak to the children of Israel,

saying: Whoever curses his God shall bear his sin.

16 (Mt 12:31) Whoever blasphemes the name of the Lord,

he shall surely be put to

and the entire congregation shall certainly stone him.

The foreigner as well as the native in the land,

when he blasphemes the name, then he shall be put to death.

17 (Ge 9:5-6; Dt 19:11-12) Whoever kills any man shall surely be put to death.

18 (Lev 24:21)Whoever kills an animal shall make restitution, animal for animal.

[21] And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a

man, he shall be put to death.

[22] Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one

of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

[23] And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth

him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the

children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.



LEVITICUS 25



The Sabbath Year



1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying:

2 (Ex 23:10; Lev 26:34-35) Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them:

When you come into the land that I give you, the land shall keep a sabbath

to the Lord.

3 For six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune

your vineyard and gather in its fruit, 4but in the seventh year there

be a sabbath of complete rest for the land, a sabbath for the Lord.

You shall neither sow your field nor prune your vineyard.

5 (2Ki 19:29; Isa 37:30) That which grows by itself from your harvest

you shall not reap, nor gather the grapes of your unpruned vines,

for it is a year of complete rest for the land.

6 The sabbath produce of the land shall be food for you:

for you, and for your male and female servants, and for your hired servant,

and for your stranger who sojourns with you,

7 and for your livestock, and for the wild animals in your land, shall all

its increase be food.

The Year of Jubilee



Dt 15:1-11; Ex 21:2-11; Dt 15:12-18



8 (Lev 23:15) You shall count seven sabbath weeks of years, seven times

seven years, and the time of the seven sabbaths of years shall be to you

forty-nine years.

9 (Lev 23:24; 23:27) Then you shall sound the horn blasts on the tenth day

of the seventh month. On the Day of Atonement you shall make

the sound of the horn throughout all your land.

10 (Jer 34:8; Ex 20:2) You shall consecrate the fiftieth year,

and proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all the inhabitants.

It shall be a Jubilee to you, and each of you shall return to his possession,

and every person shall return to his family.

11 That fiftieth year will be

a Jubilee for you. You shall neither sow nor reap that which grows by itself,

nor gather the grapes of your unpruned vines.

12 (Lev 25:6-7) For it is the Jubilee. It shall be holy to you.

You shall eat the produce of the field.

13 (Lev 25:10) In the Year of Jubilee you shall return to your property.



[8] And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times

seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee

fourty and nine years.

[9] Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth

day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet

sound throughout all your land.

[10] And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout

all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto

you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return

every man unto his family.

[11] A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow,

neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it

of thy vine undressed.

[12] For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the

increase thereof out of the field.

[13] In the year of this jubile ye shall return every man unto his

possession.

Conclusion:



Pray to the Lord and ask to understand his will in cleanliness

and Holy celebrations.



Pray to the Lord: "Loving God, I realise that I'm a sinner - I do

things that are wrong in Your eyes. I also realise that You sent

Jesus to earth to die on the cross for my sins. Please forgive me

for my sins and redeem me. Thank You for the salvation You've provided!"



Pray to the Lord and pray to learn about true humility from the Jesus Christ .



Pray to the Lord and pray He who provides your needs.



Pray to the Lord and pray Him as righteousness and peace.



Please join us in praying for:

- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.

- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to

Muslim-background believers.

- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially

in their faith and the Church.

- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their

not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.

- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.

- for current and new workers among Muslims in these growing Muslim

in these growing Muslim population centres.



Pray that Canadian churches would reach out with intercession

and love to Muslims in their neighbourhoods.



Ask that Christians would open their homes and show hospitality

to Muslim neighbours.



Ask God to draw the families and friends

of Muslim background Believers to Himself.





Pray for the children of Canada, that they would come to know

Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord.



Pray that Christians will recognise that our struggle is not

against the natural world but against invisible spiritual forces.



Pray for the encouragement of Christians in MAURITANIA

who have been harassed for sharing their faith.



Pray to the Lord that to know the Holy Spirit.

the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to the Lord.

35 (Lev 23:7-8; 23:24-25) On the first day shall be a holy convocation.

You shall do no regular work.

36 (Ne 8:18; Jn 7:37) For seven days you shall offer food offerings

made by fire to the Lord. On the eighth day it shall be a holy convocation

to you, and you shall offer a food offering made by fire to the Lord.

It is a solemn assembly, and you shall do no regular work.

37 (Lev 23:2; 23:4) These are the appointed feasts of the Lord,

which you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer a food offering

[23] And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your

whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our

Lord Jesus Christ.



In 2023, Kenyan police intervened to end what's being called the

"Shakahola Massacre" - in which hundreds died after following a cult leader's

directions to starve themselves to meet Jesus. The leader had allegedly

promised he too would leave earth in this way after his followers did.

After his arrest, he denied ever teaching this.



The tragedy is a troubling example of how dangerous it is to blindly trust

those claiming to be spiritual leaders. Cult members were so deceived that

they resisted those who came to save them from starvation. One survivor

described getting "addicted" to the leader's teachings.



Jesus Christ is the true leader of those who trust in Him. He loved us so much

He was willing to die for us to have life (1 Thessalonians 5:10). He calls us

to live for Him, "awake and sober" (v. 6) and to test any teaching of others

against His teaching (vv. 20-22).



We respond to Christ's love not by harming ourselves or others but by

"encourag[ing] . . . and build[ing] each other up" (v. 11).

By living "in peace with each other" (v. 13) and striving "to do what is good

for each other and for everyone else" (v. 15). Through daily reliance on

and trust in Christ's Spirit (v. 19), we can live a life of love as we eagerly

await Christ's coming (v. 23).

"I was so humble I was given an award for humility," the pastor quipped.

Humility is rare among 20th Century Christians. Our pride takes two

seemingly contradictory forms: Self-exaltation and self-denial. But both

focus on self, not on God.

Francois Fenelon, 17th century French archbishop, From his

"Letters of Spiritual Counsel" wrote:

"He who so completely forget himself that he never thinks of self ... is

truly humble. If we had the light to discern it, we should see clearly that

when we think we are humbling ourselves we are exalting ourselves;

when we think we are annihilating ourselves we are seeking out own life."

True humility, as Fenelon implies, means recognising who we are in the light

of who God is. Excess of self-importance and low self-esteem are both

self-centered perspectives; true humility is God-centered.

When we humble ourselves, we become intensely aware of God and less

aware of ourselves. We can focus on his face and get our eyes off our own

image. We can stop worrying about how others perceive us. Such humbling

is difficult - as one 70-year-old saint joked, "It ain't the heat that gets

you, it's the humility." But when we submit to him and fell the weight of the

"Mighty hand of God" upon us, we can forget ourselves, abandon

ourselves to his presence, and cast our cares upon him.

Alberta may have a total as high as 195240 today.

Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor. It's

become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.

Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the largest group

coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries

such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.

Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,

emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still

continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our

Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom

they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.



Please join us in praying for:

- The church to reach out to the growing Muslim populations in Alberta.

- for Canadian churches to start contextualised discipleship ministries to

Muslim-background believers.

- for Muslm-background believers to be well grounded spiritually and socially

in their faith and the Church.

- and for Muslim-background believers to share their faith with their

not-yet-believing family and friendship networks.

- for Farsi and Arabic fellowships to grow in spiritual maturity and outreach.

Pray for Muslims in Canada



Nadine was born into a devout Muslim family in Canada. Her parents were both

well educated and, on the surface, provided a good life for their two

daughters. But underneath the outward appearances, it was a home full of fear

and domestic violence.



Nadine turned to Islam for comfort, performing not only what was required, but

completing additional acts of devotion. In her senior year of high school, she

travelled to Iraq to take part in a pilgrimage with more than 15 million other

people, walking 80 kilometers to commemorate the martyrdom of the grandson of

the Prophet Mohammed.



Escalating violence in the home caused Nadine to run away when she was 18. In

her despair, she abandoned the faith that had given her no comfort, though she

remained convinced of its truth. When a friend invited her to attend a church,

the experience left her confused and angry, wondering if her entire life had

been a lie.



Covid and its subsequent lockdown, shortly afterwards, meant that Nadine had

time to read and do research. She was impressed by Nabeel Qureshi's book,

No God But One. She reached out to a

Christian online who met with her and challenged her, explaining that since

she had already abandoned her family and Muslim friends, who was left to

abandon her?

When Nadine was out alone on a run one night, she fell to her knees

and confessed Jesus as her Lord and Saviour.



At her baptism, Nadine explained: "I went from being a slave of God to being a

child of God! I have so much joy, that I want to share that joy with the

entire world!"



Now, Nadine is using social media to share Jesus with others, working to reach

some of the 1.8 million Muslims who make up nearly 5% of Canada's population.



How to Pray



Pray that Canadian churches would reach out with intercession

and love to Muslims in their neighbourhoods.



Ask that Christians would open their homes and show hospitality

to Muslim neighbours.



Ask God to draw the families and friends of Muslim background

Believers to Himself.



My paternal side is of Muslim heritage and will offer this section to further

call for Muslim converts to Christian and any other converts to Christianity

(Hindus, Jews, aboriginals Canadian, ...) .

Offering the First Fruits



9 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

to you and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf bundle

of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest.

the priest shall wave it.

12 (Lev 1:10) You shall offer that day when you wave the sheaf

until the same day that you have brought an offering to your God.

It shall be a perpetual statute throughout

The Feast of Weeks

Nu 28:26-31; Dt 16:9-12



15 (Ex 34:22; Lev 23:10-11) You shall count seven full weeks

from the next day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought

the sheaf bundle of the wave offering.

16 (Ac 2:1; Nu 28:26) You shall count fifty days to the day after

the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord.

17 (Lev 23:10; Ex 23:19) You shall bring out of your habitations

two wave loaves of two-tenths of an ephah.

They shall be of wheat flour, baked with leaven.

They are the first fruits to the Lord.

Holy Offerings

Acceptable Offerings



17 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

or from the foreigners in Israel who offers his burnt offering

for any vows or freewill offerings that he offers to the Lord,

the offering shall be a male without ­blemish, a bull, sheep, or goat.

It is estimated that Calgary has 82000 Muslims and Edmonton another 50000 .

Alberta may have a total as high as 195240 today.

Calgary is notable as the first Canadian city with a Muslim mayor. It's

become a prominent place of Islamic fundamentalism.

Edmonton's Muslim population is very diverse, with the largest group

coming from Tanzania, followed by Somalia, and then North African countries

such as Egypt, Morocco, etc.

Muslims are coming to faith in Jesus! They overcome huge spiritual,

emotional and cultural hurdles to follow Christ. Yet their challenges still

continue, especially in growing in discipleship. They often fell lost in our

Western congregations, and equally lost trying to find a church body with whom

they can identify. some are even being lured into Christian cult groups.

Pray for Afrini Kurds



Paul, like many Kurds from Afrin, fled war and became a refugee in a nearby

country. His life was defined by pride, brokenness and violence. One by one,

the women in his family came to faith in Christ, but despite their prayers and

witnessing inexplicable miracles, Paul's heart remained hard. Then, in a

vision one night, he was faced with the fearful power and tender love

of Christ.



Paul repented; saved and forever changed to be used among his people.

Previously he carried knives, but now Paul carries audio Bibles with him

wherever he goes, insisting that neither his nor any other Kurd's illiteracy

be a barrier to hearing God's Word.



In an effort to reach the whole diaspora of his people, Paul runs several

popular social media accounts in the Afrini Kurdish language. He posts videos

about the gospel, stories of Christ, and other heart-changing scriptures. His

family hosts a house-church and tries to encourage other Afrini believers like

Raban, a young and lonely disciple who lives about 90 minutes away.



One day, a man named Barzan found Paul's Facebook page and messaged him:



"I'm disenchanted with Islam and have questions about the Bible.

Do you know any Christians who can visit me?"



Paul eagerly responded, "Where do you live?"

Of all the places in the world where Afrini Kurds are found, Barzan lived only

a few blocks from Raban! Paul met with Raban and that very day led Barzan to

faith. Three years later, many families in Raban and Barzan's neighborhood

also follow Christ and together have their own house-church. They share over

the phone with relatives west in Europe and east in their home country,

where dozens are longing to be discipled.

Todd invited his younger brother Alex, a recent college graduate, to come live

with him in the house he'd built. He wanted to help his sibling gain some

financial footing by allowing him to live rent-free for a while. After six

months, Todd asked Alex to begin paying rent. Years later, Alex made an offer

on his own home. When the offer was accepted, Todd surprised him by telling

him that he'd deposited Alex's rent payments in a savings account over the

years and that the substantial sum of money was now his! Alex wept as he

received the lavish gift.



In Leviticus 25, God gave Moses commands for the Israelites that included

allowing those in need "to live with you" (v. 35 nlt). This command was part

of God enacting "a jubilee year" (v. 10 nlt) - when debts were forgiven, those

in poverty were helped, and the enslaved were freed (vv. 23-55). He declared

that He'd lovingly led His people "out of Egypt to give [them] the land of

Canaan and to be [their] God" (v. 38). He'd provided a new homeland,

and now they were to imitate Him by showing love and opening their homes

to others.



The apostle John would later write, "See what great love the Father has

lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" (1 John 3:1).

By Jesus' sacrifice we can receive the fullness of that lavish love (v. 16).

And as He helps us, we can lavish it on others.

also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.



13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common

to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be

tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation

also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.



Becky had experienced some hard knocks in the past few weeks; the stress

was beginning to show, and she wasn't sure she should handle anything else.

"Why me?" Becky wept, covering her face. "I just can't stand it any more!

I can't pay my bills; I just lost my job, and now my car broke down

on the highway. How much more of this can I take?"

Some people seem to have more than their share of trouble and temptation.

Within six months, one family faced financial trouble, cancer, quadruple

bypass surgery, and leukemia; their trials brought them face to face with

anger, bitterness, and despair as well. Other people seem to go through

life with relatively minor stresses and few real temptations to sin.

But whether our problems are great or small, they are part of the common

thread that ties humanity together. All of us face temptation; it is ,

Paul says, "Common to man." But Paul assures us that

"God ... will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear."

Often what we can bear is more that what we think we can bear. God will use

the troubled times in our lives for our maturity in him, but he promises

as well that he will not let temptation break us. He will provide "a way out,"

"a way of escape".

Sometimes the "way out" is true escape, being removed from what caused the

trouble. At other times, rather than being removed from it, we must

withstand the stress, face the temptation, enure the pain. Whether we escape

or endure, God is faithful to provide what we need; we can trust him

not to give us more than we can bear.

the nakedness of one's relative. They shall bear their iniquity.

20 (Lev 18:14) If a man lies with his uncle's wife,

he has exposed his uncle's nakedness.

They shall bear their sin. They shall die childless.

21 (Lev 18:16) If a man lies with his brother's wife,

it is impurity. He has exposed his brother's nakedness.

They shall be childless.

22 (Lev 18:25-28) You shall therefore keep all My statutes

and all My decrees and do them, so that the land to where

I am bringing you will not vomit you out.

23 (Lev 18:3; 18:24) You shall not walk in the customs of the nation

that I am driving out before you, for they committed all these things,

and therefore I abhorred them.

24 (Ex 33:16; 3:8) But I have said to you: You shall inherit their land,

and I will give it to you to possess it, a land that

flows with milk and honey. I am the Lord your God, who has separated you

from other peoples.

25 (Lev 11:1-47; Dt 14:3-21) You shall therefore make distinction

between the clean animal from the unclean,

and the unclean fowl from the clean,

and you shall not make yourselves detestable by animal, or by fowl,

or by any manner of living thing that crawls on the ground,

which I have separated from you as unclean.

26 (Lev 19:2; 20:7) You shall be holy unto Me;

for I the Lord am holy and have separated you

from other peoples, that you should be Mine.

27 (Lev 19:31; 20:6) A man or woman who speaks

to spirits as a medium or necromancer shall surely be put to death.

They shall stone them. Their blood guilt shall be upon them.



Leviticus 20

[1] And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

[2] Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the

children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth

any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of

the land shall stone him with stones.

[3] And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among

his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my

sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

[4] And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man,

when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not:

[5] Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and

will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom

with Molech, from among their people.

[6] And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after

wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that

soul, and will cut him off from among his people.

[7] Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God.

[8] And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify

you.

[9] For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put

to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon

him.

[10] And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he

that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the

adulteress shall surely be put to death.

[11] And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his

father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood

shall be upon them.

[12] And if a man lie with his daughter in law, both of them shall surely be

put to death: they have wrought confusion; their blood shall be upon them.

[13] If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them

have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their

blood shall be upon them.

[14] And if a man take a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall

be burnt with fire, both he and they; that there be no wickedness among you.

[15] And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye

shall slay the beast.

[16] And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou

shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death;

their blood shall be upon them.

[17] And if a man shall take his sister, his father's daughter, or his

mother's daughter, and see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness; it is a

wicked thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of their people: he

hath uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

[18] And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall

uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath

uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from

among their people.

[19] And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister, nor of

thy father's sister: for he uncovereth his near kin: they shall bear their

iniquity.

[20] And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he hath uncovered his

uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

Leviticus 21



Rules for Priestly Conduct



1 (Eze 44:25; Lev 10:6-7) Then the Lord said to Moses: Speak to the priests,

the sons of Aaron, and say to them: None shall make himself unclean

for the dead among his people,

2 but for his closest relatives, that is, for his mother, his father,

his son, his daughter, his brother,

3 and his virgin sister (who is near him because she has not had a husband),

for her he may be made unclean.

4 And he shall not make himself unclean as a husband among his people

because of the dead and so defile himself.

5 (Dt 14:1; Eze 44:20; Lev 19:27-28) They shall not make bald areas

on their heads, nor shall they shave off the edges of their beards,

nor make any cuts in their flesh.

6 (Lev 3:11; 18:21) They shall be holy unto their God,

and not profane the name of their God;

for they offer the offerings of the Lord made by fire,

and the food of their God. Therefore they shall be holy.

7 (Lev 21:13-14; Eze 44:22) They shall not take a wife

who is a whore or has been defiled, nor shall they take

a woman divorced from her husband, for he is holy unto his God.

8 (Lev 21:6) You shall sanctify him, for he offers the food

of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I the Lord,

who sanctifies you, am holy.

9 (Ge 38:24) The daughter of any priest,

if she defiles herself by being a whore, she also defiles her father.

She shall be burned with fire.

10 (Lev 10:6-7; 16:32) He who is the high priest among his brothers,

on whose head the anointing oil was poured

and who is consecrated to wear the garments,

shall not dishevel his hair, nor tear his clothes;

11 (Nu 19:14; Lev 19:28; 21:1-2) nor shall he approach any dead body,

nor make himself unclean, even for his father or his mother;

12 (Lev 10:7; Ex 29:6-7) nor shall he go out of the sanctuary,

so as not to defile the sanctuary of his God,

for the consecration of the anointing oil of his God is upon him:

I am the Lord.

13 (Lev 21:7; Eze 44:22) He shall take a wife in her virginity.

14 (Lev 21:7_ A widow, or a divorced woman, or a defiled woman,

or a prostitute, these he shall not marry. But he shall take

for a wife a virgin of his own people,

15 so that he does not defile his offspring among his people,

for I am the Lord who sanctifies him.

16 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

17 (Lev 10:3; Nu 16:5) Speak to Aaron, saying:

None of your offspring in their generations

who has any blemish may approach to offer the food of his God.

18 (Lev 22:19-25) For whoever has a blemish, he shall not approach,

whether a blind or lame man, or one who has a physical flaw

on his face or a limb that is too long,

19 or a man who has a broken foot or broken hand,

20 (Dt 23:1) or a hunchback, or a dwarf, or who has a defect in his eye,

or eczema or scabs, or is a eunuch.

21 (Lev 21:6) No man who has a blemish from the offspring of Aaron

the priest shall come near to offer the food offerings of the Lord

made by fire. He has a blemish; he shall not come near to offer

the bread of his God.

22 (Lev 2:3; 2:10) He shall eat the food of his God,

both of the most holy and of the holy.

23 (Lev 21:12) Only he shall not go in through the veil

or come to the altar, because he has a blemish, so that

he does not defile My sanctuaries, for I am the Lord who sanctifies them.

24 Moses spoke this to Aaron, and to his sons,

and to all the children of Israel.

Moral and Ceremonial Laws



1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

2 (Ex 19:6; Lev 11:44-45) Speak to all the congregation of the

children of Israel, and say to them: You shall be holy, for I

the Lord your God am holy.

3 (Ex 20:12; 20:8; 16:29) Every one of you shall revere

his mother and his father, and you will keep My Sabbaths:

I am the Lord your God.

4 (Lev 26:1; Ex 20:23; 34:17) Do not turn to idols,

nor make for yourselves cast metal gods: I am the Lord your God.

5 (Lev 1:3; 7:16) When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings

to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you might be accepted.

6 It shall be eaten the same day you offer it or on the next day,

and if any remains until the third day, it shall be burned in the fire.

7 If it is eaten at all on the third day, then it is contaminated.

It shall not be accepted.

8 Therefore everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity,

because he has defiled what is holy of the Lord,

and that person shall be cut off from among his people.

9 (Lev 23:22; 23:29) When you reap the harvest of your land,

[17] Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise

rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

[18] Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy

people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.



[The Great commandment]



19 (Dt 22:9-11) You shall keep My statutes.

You shall not let your livestock breed with a different kind.

You shall not sow your field with mixed seed, nor shall your garment

be mixed from two types of fabric.

20 (Dt 22:23-24) Whoever lies with a slave woman who is betrothed

to another man and not yet ransomed or given freedom,

compensation will be made. They shall not be put to death,

because she was not free.

21 He shall bring his guilt offering to the Lord at the entrance

of the tent of meeting, a ram for a guilt offering.

22 The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the guilt

offering before the Lord for his sin which he has done,

and he will be forgiven for the sin that he has committed.

23 (Lev 12:3; 22:27) When you come into the land

and plant any kind of tree for food,

then you shall count the fruit as forbidden.Or uncircumcised.

Three years it shall be forbidden to you. It shall not be eaten.

24 (Dt 18:4; Pr 3:9) But in the fourth year all the fruit shall

be holy and an offering of praise to the Lord.

25 And in the fifth year you shall eat of the fruit that it may yield

an increase to you: I am the Lord your God.

26 (Dt 12:23; 2Ki 17:17) You shall not eat anything with the blood in it,

nor shall you practice divination or fortune-telling.

27 (Lev 21:5; Isa 15:2) You shall not round the corners of the hair on your

head, nor shall you mar the edges of your beard.

for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord.

29 Do not prostitute your daughter and cause her to be defiled,

32 (Lev 19:14; La 5:12) You shall rise up before a gray head,

and honor the face of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.

33 (Ex 22:21; 23:9) When a foreigner sojourns with you in your land,

you shall not do him wrong.

34 (Lev 19:18; Dt 10:19) The foreigner who dwells with you shall be

to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself

for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

35 (Dt 25:13; 25:15) You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment

regarding measures in length, weight, or quantity.

36 (Ex 20:2; Pr 11:1) You shall have honest balances, honest weights,

an honest ephah,(A dry measure of about 3/5 of a bushel, or 22 liters.)

and an honest hin:(A liquid measure of about 1 gallon, or 3.8 liters.)

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

37 (Lev 18:4-5) Therefore you shall observe all My statutes

and all My judgments and do them: I am the Lord.



[19] Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a

diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall

a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.

[20] And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid,

betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she

shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.

[21] And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door

of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering.

[22] And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the

trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the

sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him.

[23] And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner

of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised:

three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of.

[24] But in the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be holy to praise

the LORD withal.

[25] And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof, that it may

yield unto you the increase thereof: I am the LORD your God.

[26] Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use

enchantment, nor observe times.

[36] Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye

have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
